#Feature Request: Let’s Supercharge Wooting Remaps (Think ZSA Moonlander-Level Functionality)

Hey Wooting team,

First off — huge fan of the keyboard. The tech behind Wooting is incredible, and Wootility is already one of the better configurators out there. But I think there’s some serious potential to expand what we can do with the remap system.

Lately I’ve been looking into the ZSA Moonlander, and while their hardware is cool, what really stood out was just how insane their remapping and layer functionality is. They’ve got stuff like:

Combos (triggering actions by pressing multiple keys)

Emoji support straight from a key

Presets for creative apps like Adobe, Figma, Affinity, Audacity, Ableton

VS Code shortcuts like New File, Extensions, Explorer, etc.

Common actions like Save, Save As, New Layer, Zoom In/Out

And better native window management stuff — even on Windows

Right now, Wooting’s remaps are solid, but they’re pretty basic by comparison. Stuff like opening Calculator, Email, Browser, or adjusting brightness. There’s also a few Mac-only features like Mission Control — but on Windows, there’s no real Alt-Tab / Window Overview option.

It’s not that Wooting is behind — the keyboard’s amazing — but when you see what’s possible elsewhere, it kinda feels like we’re just scratching the surface.

Would love to see support for:

Combos

Deeper app integration

System-wide shortcuts

More creative and dev tool support

More powerful Windows window management

The hardware is clearly capable, and I think expanding the remap system would seriously level things up for everyone — whether they're gaming, editing, designing, or coding.

Appreciate all the work you’re doing — just wanted to throw this out there in hopes of seeing Wooting’s remaps evolve even further. 🙌

lets go through these

VS Code shortcuts like New File, Extensions, Explorer, etc.

Common actions like Save, Save As, New Layer, Zoom In/Out

And better native window management stuff — even on Windows

DKS can do all of these and isnt limited by what we say is common or not. Common is only common until it isnt. there is no factually universal save, save as and what not. Same for the VSCode one which is self explanatory why its too specify. And windows has no native window management HID scancodes.
All of these are just 1 key with a fake scancode doing multiple other keys. DKS is perfect for this.

Presets for creative apps like Adobe, Figma, Affinity, Audacity, Ableton

I am a bit unsure what this is about but if its just making usable keymaps by default there is a community project called wootabase which collects wooting profiles.

Emoji support straight from a key

This is something wed love to do in general to do unicode but theres an actually quite big issue attached to this. Keyboards dont know what OS they are connected to and each OS has a different way of typing out unicode characters. Keyboards cant send emojis because keyboards dont send characters either. Keyboards only send scancodes and emojis arent included on any keyboard layout mapping im aware of that included with an OS by default.

Combos (triggering actions by pressing multiple keys)

This is an interesting idea and id love to know how this would work/what it would be used for.

A final note is that remap for us means remapping HID scancodes. This is also why the list contains what it does. DKS and such are what we call "Advanced keys" as they send multiple scancodes and/or influence each other or themselves based on key press depth and state.

Hey, thanks a lot for your reply—I didn’t realize how much actually goes into these keyboards, so I really appreciate you taking the time to explain things. I’d be happy to go more in-depth about the combos I had in mind.

As of now, Wooting keyboards (I'm using the 60HE) don’t support multi-key chord combos. Wooting’s focus is on per-key remapping, multi-layer layouts, Mod-Tap functionality, adjustable actuation points, and full analog input customization—all of which are handled through the Wootility software.

With Mod-Tap, you can assign different behaviors to tap vs. hold, and you can remap any key across different layers. But currently, there's no built-in combo system that lets you press multiple keys simultaneously (like J + K) to trigger a custom output (like Escape). I’ve seen some other keyboards support combos of up to six keys, which can be used for macros, layer switching, or other shortcuts—which I think can be really productive and further enhance the layers function. Most keybaord that can do this are because of applications like VIA or QMK
