I am using an English keyboard for the first time, but when I switch between English and Roman character input using SHIFT + Caps Lock, sometimes it switches to full-width alphanumeric characters. It's very annoying, but is there any way to fix this?
I apologize for any mistranslations.

Isnt roman characters just abc as well? Im a bit confused to be honest. Could you share some pictures perhaps?

Normally, these two are switched using Shift + Caps Lock.

#

However, sometimes it becomes these two.

#

I don't even know what causes it to change or what cures it.

So "Roman character" = hiragana?

so your default is Japanese and then it switches sometimes to ABC

#

or vice versa?

#

anyways, there are hotkeys to switch between the keyboard layouts you have personally enabled in your windows.

#

for example this is it for me

Oh I think I get it, when you write in an english keyboard, you get "half-width" characters:
POTATO
But in a Japanese keyboard you get "full-width" characters:
POTATO

I honestly only used Japanese autocomplete keyboard so not sure how it works in a kana keyboard. I change it like @boreal kindle pointed out in the image.

#

I guess he is saying there is a way to change between widths in a japanese keyboard without changing the keyboard layout. I honestly never checked that, I usually just change the layout

interesting, here are the unicode codepoints for both the normal O and that full width one

#

i did not know these existed

In Japanese usually you see those when writing things with latin letters, I think Chinese does it too.

You can easily change the keyboard typing layout by pressing windows + space and then it switches between what you have set up.
Like you said, the Japanese one also offers ABC but its stylized differently

#

it works pretty well and fast for my experience if I wanna switch over to my main one (Dutch - using the USA international one) and the JP one, but you can add more to you liking in your keyboard settings

I checked on the internet and they say it's exactly like he said, Shift + Capslock https://japanese.meta.stackexchange.com/a/1998

Changing layout is like a workaround, I guess he has something misconfigured in the Japanese keyboard layout, but I am not so knowledgable in that since I don't use it as frequently.

Im not sure about that either, as I never had a similar issue

I tried on my home PC where I have Japanese layout and Shift + Capslock doesnt work for me either. However, F7 and F8 does work 🤔

Anyway, I think it's better to ask a Japanese friend (if you're Japanese), they might know better than us. Unless someone here is used to the Japanese layout.

Best of luck!

This method is only useful when changing languages, and it is not necessary in the situation I am referring to now.
