#The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (OW60).

The Good:

  • The machining is excellent and the finish is flawless. While the box isn’t as fancy (it doesn’t fold open like the ones shown in reviews), the packaging overall, including the carrying case, is still really solid.

The Bad:

  • Only the 6.25U spacebar layout was considered when designing the silicone friction piece. This feels pretty short-sighted as it limits compatibility with both future Wooting products and 3rd-party PCBs. With a bit of research into the stabilizer positions of spacebars, it could’ve supported more layouts, including the upcoming 60HE v2 (split).

With the second (and larger) batch currently in production and likely releasing around the same time as the 60HE v2 (split), is this something that will be addressed?

The Ugly:

  • The mechanism doesn’t work well. In “stiff” mode, only the left side actually feels stiff, while the right side remains bouncy. Based on the reviews, it looked like the switch would be a tactile toggle, clicking between modes. That’s not the case, it just slides freely. So freely in fact, that if you tilt the board, the slider moves on its own and switches modes. I tend to tilt my boards when plugging in the cable to avoid scratching the back but with the OW60, I’d have to hold it up, switch back to bouncy and then set it back down every time. Also, there seems to be some tape under the slider, which wasn’t present in review units.

Conflicted. 😕

I hope so mine is not broken

Do you have a board installed? I'm curious if the slider wouldn't move so freely with one in if you don't have one in currently

also this should prob be sent to owlab instead. we basically only do the sales for outside of china.

#

and also also it does sound like youre unit is defective. im not aware of the slider moving freely being the way it should be

oh hm

#

wonder if we intended to pass the feedback along in like a big bundle

🤷‍♂️

I will agree on everything here. The mechanism isn't working well for me either

#

My slider is staying up tho

#

But it's still not tactile and feels very soft

i also feel that the pet sheet switches holes are not exactly cut to fit. had to stab my geon raw switch hard to break in. might be just me though.

The strap thingy has plastic behind it for some reason. It looks and feels quite cheap and isn’t even straight. You’re not supposed to remove this right?

“aesthetic” 😭

without it, it’d look way better..

We’ll get some feedback from Owlab in relation to the slider and mechanism. The tactile piece that spoken of is usually when slider gets stuck in position.

Just heard back from support, they suggest a replacement so I assume how mine functions isn’t as intended.
Anything you can share on the silicone friction piece for future compatibility with other boards including the 60HE v2 (split)? Or that’s not happening/not handed by Woot? Lastly, I understand OW designed it but the plate file (as it is proprietary) should be made public. The front lip/accent piece too imo.

I just saw this, sorry this happen to you dude :/ did you send it back? @obtuse shoal

Like the “springs” for the tactile mechanism being feet cut by hand.. dogekek

#

and the whole piece being able to tilt and then bind (which was probably the case with my unit as one side was bouncy whereas the other remained stiff).

The replacement unit I received is a bit better, as it doesn’t slide freely at all. In fact, it’s the polar opposite of my previous unit; it’s very hard to move. The tape below the slider is present here as well and it can’t slide all the way down..

The inconsistency from unit to unit isn’t surprising, considering the mechanism’s springs are feet cut by hand. It just doesn’t make sense to me that OW found this acceptable, both the hand-cut feet and the untreated metal directly below the acrylic piece, which binds up when it encounters more friction on one side than the other.

Try putting fingernail under slider it would be easier but not ideal as it should be. And hole on slider pic is little bit bigger

#

And mine didnt have protective plastic

still tiger
#

@obtuse shoal Wonder why they didnt have a some template

#

And cut it by eye

I doubt there’s much room for error with something like this

@obtuse shoal are you returning this one too?

#

At least this isn’t the bigger batch yet, so they have time to fix these issues.

#

Surely they will..
