quick question as I am uneducated on this topic, I am using the wooting coiled cable with a 60he and have it plugged into a usb-a 3.2 gen 1 port on my motherboard providing 5gbps. I am using tachyon mode with 100% brightness and everything seems to be working completely fine so far, but I just wanted to ask if a 10gbps usb port would be better/preferred for whatever reason? I am planning on getting a monitor with a built in kvm soon that only does 5gbps usb ports so just wanted to get clarification on this before I do that

The wooting keyboard is only rated for USB 2.0 speeds. So feel free to use USB 3.0 or higher, but it’ll still cap out as a USB 2.0. Now, there’s sometimes (very rare) chance the port on your computer isn’t able to downgrade the bandwidth from a higher port and cause connection issues. Like I said though, that issue is pretty rare. I don’t even think my pc has but 1 usb 2 port and I only use that for necessary bios updates. You mentioned you’ll be using a kvm built into your monitor. Just be aware some people have noted issues with them and they’re not always recommended depending on who you talk to. I use my Asus monitor’s kvm with no issues though.
Also, tachyon drops your keyboard brightness to something like 70% to compensate for the higher power draw. Really the only case I’ve experienced issues with wooting keyboard connection is when you use longer than 6ft of cable without separating the power and data with something like powered usb hub or powered kvm (ie a monitor).
Thank you! Its a newer asus monitor so glad to hear you use one as well with no issues.
There's an option in wootility to unlock the brightness in tachyon mode enabling you to put it at 100% that I am using, and I read in the FAQ on the coiled cable page here: https://wooting.io/product/detachable-cable?Color=Stealth that this cable is capable of supporting the 100% brightness w/ tachyon enabled.
Maybe that’s just a wooting 60he thing since it’s only 1k polling because my 80 caps out at something like 70% (which goes to 8k polling). Yeah my monitor I use is the PG27UCDM (the new 27” 4k 240Hz one).
I’ve even used thunderbolt 4 cables
Good to know, I don't even know why I care about going from 70% to 100% brightness anyway
How do you like that monitor? I am currently just trying to decide between the 27" 1440p 480hz or the 32" with the dual mode
Ehh I mean it could mean a lot if you have less light transmission depending on switches or keycaps. I love the monitor. Was fortunate to get it before Asus bumped the price. 4k 240Hz is asking a lot out of a GPU. At least dlss exists (even needed in some cases with a 5090).
If you only play competitive games, 1440p at high refresh rate is perfectly fine. But if you consume content or play more cinematic games, 4k is much better. Unfortunately, I’m not personally a fan of the matte displays that are included in dual mode monitors. There’s rumors that LG will create a glossy monitor panel for all these companies within the next year.
Asus does make one glossy WOLED, but it’s not a good monitor at all.
Good point about the keycaps and switches
I have not seen an oled monitor in real life, so I wouldn't know the difference between the two types but generally I'm not too picky with that kind of stuff, and I like the fact that the matte is better in environments with a lot of light. I actually like the clean design of the LG ultragear monitors a lot more but only asus has the features I need.
I only spend about 10% of my time gaming these days so its probably not worth me getting the 1440p 480, I think ill go with the 32 inch 4k and then still have that dual mode 1080p, even though I hear 1080 on 32 inches can be a little rough
Matte being better in bright environments isn’t necessarily true. It softens any light source reflections, yes. But in some cases, that could make the light affect an even larger portion of the screen. Idk if you knew or not, LG makes the WOLED and Samsung makes the QDOLED panels and then they just sell them to companies like Asus, msi, etc.
So if you get a woled monitor from Asus, it’s the same panel you’d get from LG, just with asus’s flare.
Yeah if you don’t game all that much, just go for a 4k. What’s the 4k fps on the dual mode monitor you’re looking at? As long as it’s above 120fps, it’ll still look good gaming at 4k.
Have you had the opportunity to see a QDOLED and a WOLED? How drastic is the difference? I know that the asus and lg monitor I was looking at shared the same panel, and it came from lg, and I wouldnt even consider the asus monitor because of their design if it wasnt for the usb c and kvm they provide over the lg
its the pg32ucdp, 4k 240hz, 1080p 480hz
the lg equivalent I believe is the 32GS95UE
Glossy WOLED (found in LG TVs) are superior to QDOLED which are superior to matte WOLED. If you’ve got a Best Buy, Costco, or Microcenter near you, just stroll on over and compare the monitor types.
https://a.co/d/3XlqG64 I used this kvm before I got my Asus pg27ucdm.
I’d just plug in an external usbc to the wall and it worked fine with my 80HE and endgame gear op18k mouse.
240hz 4k is PLENTY. Nvidia 5090 struggles to hit that running native on older games. Games released in the past 5-10yrs NEED to use DLSS to get close.
I suppose I could use this and for video just normally run the displayport to windows pc and then hdmi-usbc for macbook air and just switch inputs manually on the monitor
im using a finalmouse ulx at 1k polling rate so it should be completely fine
I will probably play singleplayer stuff at 4k and then for rivals or cod switch over to 1080p 480hz running a 4090
Good luck hitting 480hz on CoD. There’s a hidden cap at about 300hz even if it says it’s higher.
I don’t really understand what you’re getting at with this. I thought you said you just wanted the Asus for the kvm. This is pretty much the same thing, just as a standalone product. You connect your peripherals to it on one side, then you connect it to each pc from the other side and add usbc external power to help power the wooting keyboard.
I dont even know if I can get 300, but id rather take 200 on 1080 than anywhere from 60-90 on 4k, although I would actually have to test and see, those are just estimated numbers
So this would handle the peripherals with a single button, then video would just connect normally, right?
Normally as in displayport directly from monitor to gpu, and hdmi directly from monitor to macbook
My old 4080S could hit like 170fps consistently on cod with dlss in performance and graphics settings on high (of course shit settings like depth of field and motion blur disabled).
Yeah you’d just connect your computers as normal to the monitor and manually swap inputs. Then on that kvm you just press the button either on the hub or mount the external button under your desk or something to press. Feel like a bank teller pressing a silent alarm when switching kvm inputs 😂
KVM is literally just a usb hub that when the button is pressed it swaps which cable it sends the data to and from.
Im excited to test out the fps on 4k then and see what I can get, I am coming from an old 1080p 24" alienware, so I dont even know what to expect with 4k or oled. Now that I can just get that $40 switch, I might go with the LG instead but I will do more research first, I just really like the clean look of the LG over that chin on the asus
Probably a little cheaper
If you go that route, get the kvm first to ensure it works with your setup. Worked on mine and some other guy’s in here a few weeks or so ago but nothing’s “guaranteed” to work.
Amazon has good returns 😂
Alright, thanks. Normally the asus is cheaper but the LG is actually on sale for $400 less right now
Asus decided to markup everything they sell with the initial tariff announcement and even though they’re not currently affected, they think it’s okay to charge like 25% or more for no reason.
I'm curious how the LG is normally $200 more than the asus for what I understand to be the same thing with less features
