77.5% Endgame | Wooting 80HE😌

I just want to share with you—maybe my ideas/solutions can make life easier for someone. And I also think I can get some feedback myself.

Let’s start with something from quite a while ago (I was too lazy to start earlier, but better now than never). I got my 80HE on February 10 this year. In the initial photos, it’s a very standard 80HE with hand-lubed Lekker L45 switches (later, I added a few Gateron Jade switches).

I’ll also attach a sound test (apologies in advance for the low-quality audio).

Maybe someone is interested, so I’ll also occasionally add the total cost—possibly to embarrass myself with unnecessary and ridiculously expensive choices.

Stock 80HE ≈$210.

A week later, my fake gmk keycaps arrived (I’ll leave the link for later).

I added a layer of tape mod, lubed the stabilizers (also upgraded them following a tutorial from here -> #🪛│modding_faq message), placed small pieces of Poron under the spacebar (to reduce noise), and the same material across the entire surface between the bottom case and the stock dampening layer (to fully fill the space, etc.).

An experimental decision was adding switch pads—only under the L45s, as they didn’t work well with the Gaterons.

Also i switch jade switches to "franken switch"(L45 bottom n top housing + jade stem + jade spring)

At the moment, I’m waiting for a package that will allow me to complete the internal customization (though I’d still like to replace the stabilizers). The only thing left after that will be to buy a metal case.

Well, I finally have the energy to write about the upgrades on my journey to an endgame device. Since my last update, I’ve finally put everything together, and I can confidently say that I’m completely satisfied with the result.

I replaced all the components of the plate sandwich (as always, I’ll leave links later). The only thing I didn’t use was the PE layer (the distance between the Hall sensor and the magnet in the switch was too large). I added a new Poron layer to the bottom of the case—honestly, the difference in sound is negligible compared to the stock dampening, but Poron feels nicer to the touch.

I also swapped the original plate for a black FR4 plate, and I have to say, this was a great decision. The black plate, combined with the translucent case, looks much more refined and aesthetic than the stock version (photo comparison below—seriously, please add an option to choose plate color 🙏🙏).

I’ll add a photo of the final sandwich—it looks amazing. As you can see, I cut out a few spots. Honestly, I don’t even know why, but okay. Later, I covered the screws with pads since they were very visible in the final build.

As for the switches, it’s still a mix (I’m just broke :3). I’ll describe the feel later.

Extremely super update. I decide to change colours of my Wooting to blue and white(also she’s fatass rn, 1 kilo gram weight😹)

holy moly, the progress of this keeb is insane! If you were to reduce your modifications to a few "core" ones, which would you say were most important?

mainly the switches / lubing / taping that's most 'essential'?

how many switches would I exactly need to cover a full 80HE?

because, 4,50 per switch is insane xD.

I'm still saving up for the base-line 80HE like your day 1. So the fact that the GEONS can be picked as an option from the get-go was highly appealing to me.

But I'll deffo consider them if I ever wanted to eventually upgrade

In person, it exceeded all expectations, the colors are absolutely beautiful. Interestingly, mine even smells like honey-based watercolor. It’s a huge leap in both quality and sound compared to a plastic case. Switching to top mount turned out to be a good move; I used to complain about it, but after some testing, it’s actually not bad. 7/10 for sound, pretty typical for any HE board, but compared to the Holy60, it’s a big improvement even in the stock configuration. More photos in the comments.
But what I didn’t really like was the rather noticeable ping caused by the open bottom probably the only thing that’s bothering me so far, aside from the price, obviously.
Upd: Okay, one more thing: the feet slide on my desk, most likely due to their small surface area.

Is it worth buying? That’s up to you to decide. Personally, I liked it, especially considering the extra accessories, two screwdrivers and a carrying case. Though to be honest, the case itself is pretty basic- no logos or anything special.

Holy Wooting 80HE with New TTC Elf King Switches🧝‍♂️
Currently my Second favourite HE switch after TTC KOM POM. Can put them on same tier with also very popular switches like Owlab TI and Duhuk Lumia Herz. Worthy alternative to the ones mentioned above TTC KOM POM
