blanks, things you love to see
😩 yessss an agree-er, i love them blanks so much
where did you get those keycaps from or whats their name?
I never look at my keyboard when typing but it still feels impossible to type on those blank keycaps. Should give it a try. The case looks amazing.
cheap from amazon, ill get the link
they feel nice
moms taught me how to type as a weeeee lad so it's natural for me to never look. appreciate it !
Do you know if the sticky rice v2s offer a nicer sound and if so is it deeper or clackier?
ive ordered dashes as i've learned there can be issues with the sticky rice v2s, only 3.5mm of travel on the magnet
but they are a thocky switch
its time
ws dashes:
only thing i dislike about the ws dashes is the colour of the switches interferes badly with rgb lighting, had to make my 'white' a bit purple to compensate. apart from that an outstanding feel !
sticky rice v2(1 hour of use)
so far enjoying the sticky rice, will report back after some gaming
the rgb diffuser piece is nice, feels more like a layer of rgb rather than per key
@dire dawn rough iphone filmed sound test ^
more dull than the dashes but a really good bottom out feel
thanks. I see you're using cherry keycaps, any interference from the north facing switches or no?
I prefer cherry profile over OEM profile, let me know if you can test one of the R3 keycaps
I figure since it's 3.5mm it hopefully shouldn't but idk
interference with what exactly?
Well, So far I have the sticky rice v1 actually, since I bought them impulsively and found out about the issues after the fact. But I've been lucky I think, since my board seems to be working fine (Or i just don't know what to look for)
ive also had no problems over the day they were in, not a thing
So far I think I still like the sound of these switches the best
I'm waiting for my keycaps to clear customs (they have been at customs since wednesday 13th). When they arrive, I'm going to experiment a bunch with this board with different kinds of acoustic material. Pretty curious to see what's achievable
Have you lubed the switches yourself or just used them the way they came?
what the hell, almost 2 weeks at customs for keycaps? they must think they were made of cocaine not plastic lmao
just the stock factory lube for now, if i feel it needs a touch up i might open them in the future
sidenote, there's a new milktooth upload on youtube as of 10 hours ago comparing his favourite he switches
Yeah, the switches I had to pay import taxes over, but I so far have not received a bill for the keycaps so that's a bit annoying.
I don't like lubing switches so I might just do the springs of a couple to see if it makes enough of a difference. If not, I won't bother either 🙂
I've done it , for my previous board. It was fun to have done once but never again if not necessary please 🥲
North facing switch interference on cherry profile keycaps can be confusing for new keyboard enthusiasts. Interference happens when the inner walls or your keycap contacts the switch and prevents you from bottoming out your keypress.
Here's a quick rundown on what exactly switch interference is, how to check for interference with your switches...
(do not follow his "easy fix" at the end, that sounds awful, especially with hall effect keyboards)
yeah that does look terrible but nope, no interference !
ok that's good to hear. my gf just bought them for our anniversary
but i'll give the milktooth video a listen too lol
honestly I like the sound of the gateron jade pro maybe a little better, the sticky rice almost sound a little too muted
can definitely vouch for the mutedness, it's a very dull switch. not that it isn't enjoyable
definitely not the quietest switch by any means, but in the realm of thock
yeah
sticky rice have mis inputs sometimes im noticing more and more.
random space bar but also normal alphas as well
crouching and jumping in games
they have stronger magnets from what I understand, did you fully calibrate them after changing the switches? also what's your actuation distance set to?
I understood calibrating would be automatic when turning on the board. Was I wrong about that? (My keys still seem fine so far, maybe I don't have as much strokes as Takcata. so who knows that might still come for me)
I received the bill on friday, so it took them 1.5 weeks to get that to my house.. Also, there was something funky going on with who would end up being the delivery service from customs to me, it switched and if I knew about that I could have payed it a lot sooner since it would have been an in-app function... Oh well, I payed so it shouldn't be long now 🤞
Really curious if I get some sort of keycap interference though, and if I turn out to need stabs with long poles
i noticed on day 3-4, in game i was jumping and crouching
i also thought the calibrating was automatic and i changed my actuations to be within 3.5
I had issues with my 0-key, right on day 1, but I just switched that one out with another switch (since I got a bag of 100pc) and it seems good now
maybe i'll go back to them someday but i like the ws dashes sound profile more anyways
You don't have to do this (if you prefer it ofcourse it's fine). The 4mm means its 100%, so 3.5mm is like 87.5%. At least, that's how I understood it
or put them in a future he board if i get one
Ahh that's right, you went with the dashes. That would have been my other contender
Just slightly liked the sound of the stickies more
yeah i have 70 of each cause i really couldn't decide with video sound tests
I feel you, they are really close to eachother
i also really like the everglide rgb diffuser piece in the switches it makes a huge difference
looks less like per-key and more like ambient underglow
wherein with the dashes, because of the shell and stem colour i have to add pink to my white lighting to counteract and make a cleaner white
Apparantly the dash is just a gateron with a different stem, but on all video's I was amazed how much different (imo better) the dashes sounded compared to the gaterons
Ah yeah, I didn't even think about that
nit picking tho, you'd have to have a keen eye for colour to really care
but i think a lot of kb enjoyers are design enjoyers so there's probably a lot
Yeah, but still
Exactly, I like those details. Although it's also dangerous, everytime I go on a forum or here to ask a question I seem to learn about another thing I have to pay attention to 🥲
Also noticed there's a lot of people that have no clue what they are talking about, which was a nice realization. Now I'm just going to experiment myself
I saw a keyboard somewhere with cork as dampening that sounded very good to me, now I got a mat of mass loaded vinyl, one of alubutyl, some felt and some cork
cork is only good for highs
Curious to see what it might do with the sound of a hall effect switch
Takes out highs yeah
mix cork and felt
Absorbs more than it deflects too, which I think is good so I'm stoked to find out
That was my guess right now!
yeah i feel like that could make a great sound
let me know about your experiments !
Will do. I might have to put in some extra time so I can get a decent mic set-up
This is pretty cool, but not available for the wooting
i dont have the board yet, i was under the impression you had to manually do it
like the keyboard has no way of knowing the distance without first knowing the strength of the magnet at the top and bottom
since lekker has different magnet strength than sticky rice, i figure you'd need to calibrate it when changing switches
You might be right, I'm not educated enough on this to tell you otherwise. What I do know is, so far it seems to be working fine for me. But I also don't have any reference point, no other wooting keyboards. But looking in wootility, at the actuation point visual feedback, everything seems to go to 4mm right when the switch bottoms out, so to me it seems working good
idk about the plate, i feel like the cork might break/crumble being so thin
but looks cool
I had the same thought exactly. Apparantly there's some type of gauze on the back to keep it together, but only time and possible bad reviews will tell if it actually is durable enough
It's not the switchplate itself btw, it's in between the plate and the pcb. But still
ohhhh idk why i thought it was a switch plate that makes some more sense
feel like pushing a switch in could snap that if it was the top plate lol
what colour are these? looks great
I got these
There's, imo, one flaw but nothing all that bad. Just that with the novalties they have all these only in r0 so I don't think I'll use those at all. But I think that would be too much yellow to my liking anyways. Just a bit weird for other use cases
Really pleased with it, not sure if I keep these wasd-keys or swap them for the normal color, and I think I will put some foam or dampening in the spacebar. The high profile is nice for all the other keys, just the spacebar sounds a bit hollow
yeah that's a really nice colour looks good
if you're willing to experiment, and have a tube of silicon laying around, try filling in the hollow parts of the spacebar with silicon
worst case you can cut it out
I dont have silicon, but I do have a alubutyl mat that I can cut strips off of to put in there. Or maybe the cork I told about might work, since it's not as heavy but might still make it sound not hollow
saw this video with SayoDevice O3C using manual calibration, ig I assumed wooting would have the same https://youtu.be/sNT34c8a7sI?si=pf3UQwDh9UXZzMgq
