#WOOTING 80HE screws

Just wanted to post about this issue Im encountering,

I was lubing my stabilizers and doing some acoustics tuning (this is the first time im unscrewing it since the delivery of the keyboard)

For me to find out after I screwed in the stabilizers for my backspace, I could no longer unscrew it, it was fully locked in.

BUT thats not the issue. The issue being that the threading was broken, and now I have a stabilizer permanently attached to my PCB and Im unable to even remove it at all.

This is awesome. The first time ever I buy a PREMIUM keyboard, I get such a terribly built / quality board.

(did i mention I waited literal years for this keyboard ? I didnt ? well there ya go...)

what scrwdriver tip size is that

#

cant tell if the driver doesnt properly fit the head or if you screwed it so tight the brass insert in the stab broke free and now spins with the screw

jaunty geode
#

screwdriver is just a regular screwdriver that fit, which i can unscrew all the screws

#

and no i did not tighten it too tight, just enough to have it not fall off and loosen, (ie the first screw im showing)

#

for it to break on the first time of unscrewing and rescrewing is just epic in quality

cerulean niche
#

can you take of the plate and show the front side of the stab?

#

also i assume the screw is just free spinning?

jaunty geode
#

yep

#

errr im in a game, i will need to dismantle it, again but im kinda scared of all the screws now

cerulean niche
#

well i havent heard of this before so i wouldnt be too worried

#

(its also why id love to get pics so i can forward it for internal investigation)

#

also no worries take your time

jaunty geode
#

here you go

#

(i had so much paranoia with every screw...)

#

i gave you a video as well

#

please find me a way to remove the stabilizers... cuz im living with the fact that my backspace sound terrible compared to the entire keyboard lolll

jaunty geode
#

@cerulean niche any ideas on how to remove the stabs ?

cerulean niche
#

crap i thought i messaged back...

my best idea rn is trying to just hold the nut from the top by jaming smth somewhat pointy into it to hold it in place

#

basically between those 2 circles

#

that just freespins now for whatever reason (i assume it didnt fully melt in)

#

another option would be if you have a very thin metal sheet (not a foil) to shim it un the stab and under the nut to act as a new screw thread so the screw tries to unscrew against it which then causes the nut to jam against it and then should fully unscrew

#

also we will ofc provide free replacement stabs if you reach out to us via the support page

jaunty geode
#

thats what i tried... and i couldnt free it, i posted this to the community as well, some told me to use a knife. (which i stabbed myself already)

#

but yeahh, as it is right now , it perma stuck @cerulean niche

#

and yes, i already reached out to the support page, but its REALLYYYYYY slow....

jaunty geode
#

@cerulean niche still stuck, couldn't remove it.

jaunty geode
#

@cerulean niche <@&182822816075218944> someone save me... Even if you send me a new replacement stabilizer, it's stuck to the PCB... 😭

cerulean niche
#

the last idea i have is destroying the stab basically by carefully cutting/breaking it around the screw insert part

#

and then grip the insert with pliers

#

other than that im really our of ideas

jaunty geode
#

That comes with the risk of me breaking the PCB... One I'm not willing to do...

cerulean niche
#

im aware

#

best to generally reach out to our support already

#

if you didnt yet that is

jaunty geode
#

I already did

#

Well ok I will just wait for support then, thanks

#

You can try heating up the nut so that it melts with the plastic again and then wait for a while, try unscrew it again.

#

Otherwise cut away the plastic , so you can reach the nut to unscrew

jaunty geode
#

how do you heat up the nut without damaging the pcb ??

#

cutting is the same as before, im not sure how to do it without damaging the PCB

#

and im still waiting for support to even get back to me on the replacement stabilizers...

cunning vine
#

Usually with a solder iron is the fastest

#

Support is catching up but slow at the moment. We had a crazy up tick in tickets (60%) starting July and ongoing hasn’t gone down.

#

(Meanwhile have 5 more CS members join!)

jaunty geode
#

and if i dont have a solder iron ?

#

basically im screwed then...

#

dont mind it being slow, at least keep us informed, pretty sure im not the only community member frustrated by this, especially when your email replies still state at 1-1.5 weeks, and its taking much longer than that.

cunning vine
#

Clipping the plastic so you can reach the nut to stop it from rotating with it.

Have to wait for that replacement stabilizer though

jaunty geode
#

Does my warranty cover, if I damage the PCB in the process... That's my main concern

cunning vine
# jaunty geode

Not exactly. Looking at this picture I also don’t see the nut that usually holds the screw? Can’t you just push the screw out or pull off the plastic bit from the screw.

Then you won’t have a chance damaging pcb by scratching with something sharp.

cerulean niche
#

i see a nut

#

not sure if you have this issue resolved yet or not, but maybe try and use a pair of pliers to pinch the stabiliser and maybe get the plastic to bend towards the nut just enough to grab onto the knurling then try unscrewing it. not sure if it will work but thats the best i got, hope you get this sorted!

@cunning vine And I have multiple attachments to this showing everything from start to finish, that the nut is fastened, and that the threading is the issue, and now it's just fastened to the PCB which I can't remove without risking damaging the PCB

#

But seriously this is a big disappointment considering I waited years for this, and the moment I decide to mod my stabiliser, it comes to this, talk about quality

# jaunty geode But seriously this is a big disappointment considering I waited years for this, ...

Things happen even if most wooting 80he come out okay there's going to be a few with quality issues or even sometimes with batch level issues but thus far wooting has solved the issues by sending replacements of the effected part like your stabilizer or offering refunds for more major things and other things for those with the white zinc batch wooting can't make every single thing perfect even if you waited years for it yes and yes you spent alot of money on it but tbh it's kinda unfair for you to be so passive aggressive about receiving help I mean Calder sends like 10 messages in this discord every week or two and he's gone out his way to help you but hey what do I know I'm not the one with the issue here so you don't have to take my opinion heavily you can just ignore it for all I care I just see no point in being so passive aggressive

#

I can see why you'd be mad tho and that's fine
