#First product from Wooting ~ White Zinc 80HE preorder feels like a huge loss.

I was looking to buy a new keyboard from Wooting for a year or two, i didnt like the layout of 60HE so 80HE was the perfect choice. So i decided to preorder it and wait. Then the production postponning happened. I chose white zinc which brought whole lot of other problems with it as well. Like being possibly forced to buy v2 down the line to get the quality i expected which means more money on the table.

The date of delivery changed twice already and got extended by almost 2 months. If that wasn't frustrating enough, we now get a batch update that says that i will yet again get screwed for going through with the kb as is, and will receive the keyboard 2-3 weeks later.

Now god forbid that its damaged, because then i would get proper keyboard maybe in the January at this pace.

This is my first experience with Wooting, i ordered all the tools and modules to put it together on my own and perhaps customize it down the line. It's been recommended by friends and content creators that i watched prior to this. I was really hyped and excited, but i am more and more disappointed with this whole process of more and more surfacing complications.

Not to mention the bugs and imperfections that people are commenting on reddit and here, where support takes ages to respond.

Now what i am asking is; where is the Wooting redeeming quality that everyone talked about and praised Wooting for.

Hi Paradox.

First of all, I would like to apologize for your negative experience you've had so far. A big purchase that has extra/unforeseen delays and issues can be very frustrating and I fully understand where you're coming from

Additionally I would like to clarify a few things. When it comes to pre-orders, no matter what you order, final delivery/production dates have an influx of changes, that's why things are always an estimate at the beginning and never a 100% promise. More a date/timeframe that's being aimed for.

Linked to date, the delays that have happened were due to issues we uncovered during test production/batches. These were done/made to ensure we would catch things like that before the main production went out to actual customers. We've always been open and transparent about these delays as to why they're happening and what we're doing to resolve it. We believed these were needed to look into the issue + solving it, even though the number of defects were small instead of being like 'yolo just ship it'. Pausing production, locating the issue, fixing the issue and restarting the production has caused this delay.

Now to the specific white zinc case. I would like to (try to) reassure you that the number of defects (paint chips) is very minimal. The reason now that the re-starting of the shipping of the white zinc for existing orders is taking a bit longer is cause production and everything regarding the white zinc has been stopped as we're figuring out internally how to improve on the matter internally, but also ensuring what we can do for current and potential future customers. Again, this causes delays, but it's combined again to the factor to taking time to work out a process for everyone and everything instead of rushing something out and then dealing with the issues later.

We still believe in our product and the vision we have, and some of these delays were necessary to achieve that. We hope that once you receive your Wooting you do so too.

This doesn't mean we can't learn from our mistakes and how to do things better in the future. Comments/feedbacks will be taken with us for new projects.

# umbral vector Hi Paradox. First of all, I would like to apologize for your negative experienc...

Thanks for response.

I get your point, but the final product is contradicting what you are saying.

If the delays were made because of the testing and so on, then all the chaos and negativity wouldnt unravel after reviewers received their keyboards, but would be caught before main production and people wouldnt have received faulty products. Many people are posting stuff where there's a faulty LED diode or keycaps are underlit in wrong color if at all. Now there is ofc room for error with every product that has been ever made, but thats not all is it.

For me and others specifically who ordered the White zinc you havent fixed the issue, but basically informed us that we will get more than usually fragile keyboard that if gets scratched isnt covered under warranty. I am specifically mentioning the scratches that many creators are pointing out, not the chipping or damaged keyboard that we get on arrival thats caused by transport, thats understandable.

The problem with the scratches lays in its core. My keyboard broke down in february, i pre-ordered 80HE once it was possible and i decided to go in with your product because of all the reviews and recommendations from previews models. It got delayed because of the chip issue, i dont remember the specifics, but it took like 2-3 weeks if i remember correctly, before the main production started. I guess thats what you were refering to.

The painting issue got acknowledged after the embargo on the keyboard ended and people started giving out reviews, where they pointed out the scratches. If i take something sharp and scratch any keyboard, it gets damaged no matter the color or coating. It should never happen if i am changing keycaps or switches, which i am afraid will happen and just like that my keyboard will be damaged and all i can do about is it to buy V2 with the 40$ sale or whatever the Wooting hub coupon is.

How is it that the coating issue is being talked about now after all the inconvenience has happened and not before the main production began.

Why are we getting 40$ on Wooting store instead of at least 50% sale for v2 of the white zinc for example? Not everyone, but those that went through with the order, which wouldnt damage the company financially in any significant way.

Why was the White Zinc coating talked about post NDA and not before that? Did Wooting hope that people wont notice or that the coating issue is not gonna be the insignificant?

Is there any alternative or benefit being in the talks internally for the people that went through their order, except the store cash?

Is there any ETA for the V2 or at least some kind of progress in that regard?

Is there any priority for the people that already received keyboard but it was damaged so they have to wait for pristine replacement that functions or looks how it should, or do they have to wait months to receive it?

Hi Paradox,

I believe a few questions will be answered in a future video recorded by Calder (coming soon) and you will receive an email soon.

I can comment quickly on the scratching/paint however. Personally I own a white zinc and replaced all my keycaps with zero scratches. It's all about how you treat your products. If you deliberately try to damage/brute force something metallic, the board will scratch. As stated these can easily wiped away.

From my understanding, the scratch issue never came to us pre NDA is because we didn't hear any other reviewer about the issue (and ourself included). That doesn't mean we're not trying to make things better now, now that we know it's something that can happen, but if I'm understanding it correctly, there isn't a way where it will be 100% scratch proof.

Apologies that I can't answer more questions for you atm. There should be a video and email coming out later this week that addresses the topic, hopefully that clarifies some things.
