Figured I'll post my zone here since I cleaned out the desk and whatnot and happened to have good photos. Lil custom painted 80HE spotlight
Here's a couple points about painting since I'm sure I'll get questions otherwise:
- I find acrylic semigloss/satin spraypaint works best. It smells less than alkyd, dries almost instantly and comes in satin/semigloss more often, alkyd almost always comes in just full gloss which looks cheap in my opinion.
- As for prepwork, nothing fancy is required, simply clean and degrease the part you want to paint extremely well. Washing it like you would wash dishes is great, alcohol of somekind is also good. I do both.
- Primer is generally unnecessary, so is sanding. You may want to do either or both of these things if your part is old and scratched already, though. It simply improves the surface quality so old scratches don't show through paint.
- Paint in extremely light coats until you have satisfactory coverage. For acrylic spraypaint it usually seems to be <5 mins per coat of drying time. Follow the instructions on the can.
