#Transparent keys in layers

TLDR: Transparent keys are keys that you can assign in a layer ( e.g. layer 1 ) which instead of doing nothing will inherit the functionality of the previous layer.

E.g. If you set the WASD keys as transparent in layer 1, then any time you change to layer 1 using FN1, all keys will change except the transparent ones. Those will continue to function the same exact way as the main layer, both including the mapping but also including settings such as actuation points. This allows you to, for example, switch to layer 1 and press a key from it without losing control over your character in a game, because WASD are still available.

This is currently achievable, if you copy over the configuration for the keys from the main layer to layer 1, but this isn't synced up. So if you change the main layer, you have to remember to change layer 1 to match. Also, you have to do this for each profile individually instead of relying on the layout linking in the Remap tab. Transparent keys will solve both of these problems.

I can’t currently test but if you have W bound on the main and secondary layer, does W stay activated if you hold W then press Fn to enter the secondary layer or does it quickly deactivate then activate again? If it doesn’t stay activated, I’d like “transparent keys” to behave like that. That could be very useful. Good suggestion, bump!

i think they mean as in if you hold fn and then press where W would be it still presses W if the key is marked transparent

Keys that were pressed before switching to the second layer will remain pressed. However, if you release them, you won't be able to press them again until you go back to main layer.

Additionally, you won't be able to change direction, e.g. if you wanna keep ADing while pressing something from the next layer, it's impossible unless you make the exact same WASD configuration in the other layer too

This gets worse if you have multiple profiles as you'd have to keep redoing the configuration for each layer instead of just setting a transparent key and forgetting about it

So basically a "key lock" never let FN affect its function, remove the option to bind anything on those positions in FN1,2,3
