I've been on a years long kick to do everything I can to improve my user input experience on my machine. I've tried many different input devices, I've applied textured rubber grip tape to every surface I can, and I've experimented with numerous different kinds of keycaps and modifications on keycaps. Here's a (very low quality) picture of my OG Wooting two. Visibile in the image are three different tries to improve the feel of the keyboard.
Firstly, transparent grip stickers (dragon grips brand, they have a kit if anyone is interested). They're placed on important FPS keys; G for grenade, shift, crtl, alt, and so forth. The goal is to make those keys more immediately recognizable to my fingers to reduce slipping or striking the wrong key in a firefight.
Next, textured rubber WASD keys. The rubber surface and texturing gives them a distinct feel compared to the other keycaps. Again, the goal is to be able to immediately recognize what keys I'm touching so i can confidently return to WASD when I have to move my hand for some reason.
Finally, I found a set of Lexan braille stickers for keyboard. This one was... a bit of a disaster. i don't read the braille script and put a number of stickers in the wrong place or wrong orientation. I also had to cut the very tough lexan material to make it fit the keycaps I'm using and I wasn't as accurate as I'd like. but, again, the goal was to give each key a distinct tactical identity for additional precision.
Has any of this worked? I have no idea! If I'd been serious about being scientific I would have loaded up Mavis Bacon Teaches Typing and tracked my scores over time. But it's been a fun project seeking out different ways to improve or optimize the user input experience.
also note my "Tilda" key!
