I just received my Wooting Two 100HE, installed the Wootility, and noticed that there isn't an option for American English. As a keyboard company you should respect the country that invented the keyboard and replace English with American English or at least make American English the default option.

You do realize there's barely a difference with the dialects when talking about computers right?

ornate topaz
#

yeah, it's probably better to replace it with American English instead of offering both.

Why?

Christopher Latham Sholes (February 14, 1819 – February 17, 1890) was an American inventor who invented the QWERTY keyboard, and, along with Samuel W. Soule, Carlos Glidden and John Pratt, has been contended to be one of the inventors of the first typewriter in the United States. He was also a newspaper publisher and Wisconsin politician. In hi...

Adaptation to Modern Usage: American English has certainly evolved to meet contemporary needs, incorporating a vast array of new words and phrases, especially in technology, culture, and science. It reflects modern American society and its influences.

Divergence: American English has diverged from British English in several ways since the early colonial period, developing distinct vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar. This divergence is often seen as a form of evolution.

Influence of Other Languages: American English has been heavily influenced by the diverse population of the United States, incorporating elements from numerous other languages.

Cultural and Global Influence: Due to the global influence of the United States in media, technology, and international business, American English has spread widely and influenced English usage around the world.```

I would just like to point out that these words in the sentence you just wrote do not come from "American English":

  • looks
  • like
  • they
  • are
  • using
  • the
  • word
  • which
  • comes
  • from
  • American
  • English

so not sure what you're trying to say with respect to etymologies of the words you are using, maybe you should be speaking English or Latin instead of American English if you're gonna complain about the origins of the words being used

American English is a superset of Legacy English

atomic lake
#

Not sure what you think the word "superset" means, maybe it has a different definition in American English compared to the rest of the world's English aka just English

ornate topaz
atomic lake
#

If you're gonna argue that it's a superset then you can't also argue that the usage of the word "firmware" in the internationally spoken English originating in America is meaningful

atomic lake
# ornate topaz

Okay so you're working by the same definition of superset, then you're just wrong.

ornate topaz
#

that's true, some words are different and some plain dont exists in the other

atomic lake
#

Well there you go then

atomic lake
#

If you care about the etymologies of words originating in other languages or dialects, start speaking English or Latin instead

ornate topaz
#

they should look at sales and use the flag of that country as the default

#

most sales gets their flag

🇺🇸

American English is the global language used, not legacy english

atomic lake
#

Well I would like to point out first of all that a greater proportion of the British (🇬🇧) population speaks English natively than that of the United States (🇺🇸) population. I am not sure why you are that angry that the international spellings are being used instead of the American ones. Additionally, outside of the United States, English is more commonly taught.

wooting is a business. they should use the flag of the country with the most sales

or just use American english / british since they are different

ornate topaz
#

and if it's installed in america make that the default

atomic lake
#

or just follow the language preferences that the user has set on their system?

#

If they added an American English option and someone outside America has American English selected as their system language then it should still default to American English

ornate topaz
#

it might just be copying the legacy english and removing one u in color and adding the american flag

Anyway, use this flag if you are not planning on adding another English variance, and if you do, add two options, one for the UK and one for America, based on the system language. Either of those options should take 5 minutes top to program and implement imo
