There is a few good reasons ISO/ANSI users would want to transition to a JIS layout, but would struggle with keycap compatibility (and just in general not knowing that this is possible, something this package by existing also would aim to inform on).
ISO to JIS:
- Finally big left Shift (which is just nicer in games, especially with ESDF and also home row typing).
- Right Alt placed closer to middle meaning nicer to reach the
{bracket with it. - Key left to Spacebar is closer to middle, easier to use as modifier or hotkey in games (especially with ESDF layout).
ANSI to JIS:
- Finally nicely shaped big Enter.
- (probably something else, not an ANSI user)
ISO/ANSI to JIS:
- Nicer smaller Spacebar.
- Just cool aesthetic of a japanese keyboard. Unique.
- More keys.
The keycap package would include:
- some blanks you can use for the extra keys you got and temporarily or permanently disable, so you don't misclick something and they looking better.
- extra 1.0u Backspace to remap the key next to the Backspace, having 2 with same function, so you can't misclick it as easily, just nice in general (or replace one of them with blank).
- extra no-bump J and bump K for those that want to shift their home row position (right hand) one the right, mainly because the right Shift is far away on JIS (but also nice because then your kb is more centered, easier to reach that 1.0u Backspace without misclick, easier to reach Del and that right key cluster in general, easier to reach arrows).
- 1.0u Alt.
- probably something for ANSI, and something else I didn't think about.
But you would still need to buy both JIS and ISO or ANSI, this package is just something extra to make transition nicer. I think this is just better and cheaper (for Wooting) to do it in one package like this (but it's possible to do 2 packages, ANSI>JIS and ISO>JIS, so buying JIS layout with one of these packages, not having to buy additional full ANSI/ISO. also having to include Nordic caps).
