#60HE+ Module high pitch noise

My Module makes a really high pitch noise when on 100% brightness. It is audible sitting in front of it without typing or wearing a headset. The lower I put the RGB brightness the fainter it becomes but what is the cause and is there a fix?

The fix - or workaround depending on how you look at it, is to lower the LED brightness.

#

You have excellent hearing (enjoy while it lasts), and are able to hear a bit of coil whine from the LED controller.

On all boards, yes.

Electrical component whining can be horrible. I had it in an iMac (display whined when set to a low brightness) and had to return it because of the whine. My notebook processor occasionally whines but it is pretty muted so that it is acceptable. IMHO electrical components should be chosen such that they do not whine.

No such thing.

Er wot?

All electronics have coil whine. The circumstances of when they happen, and to what degree they are audible is where things are less cut and dry.

#

Again - Reducing the LED brightness is the workaround here.

Well, just saying, I consider a component that whines audibly defective. And I have a lot of electical devices and they generally don’t whine audibly.

It is entirely within your right to return one of our keyboards within 30 days.

#

We allow you the choice of increasing the LED brightness to a point where coil whine can be audible. You can forgo that option.

Sure thing. But I never had keyboard that whined. That includes my Wooting One. So it is possible to build a silent keyboard.

Yes - By lowering the LED below their potential.

#

And again - Hearing is subjective.

IMHO a keyboard just should not whine audibly. And it is possible to build such a keyboard. That is all I am saying.

Artificially implementing limits, instead of prodiving choice is not the way.

I don’t mind lowering led brightness, just wasn’t sure if it was normal not.

#

It doesn’t damage the leds right?

meager junco
#

Not at all. 🙂

#

Do you think it could be prevented in the 80HE?

#

I don’t remember my other keyboards having this but maybe their leds aren’t as bright?

Honestly I can’t believe the IMHO low standard that is applied here. A keyboard should be completely silent. If it is not then the components used are of insufficient quality.

I don’t know what the cause of wine is or how it works so can’t really talk on it.

To get back to this, I would really appreciate it not being on the 80HE as it’s even audible with certain effects. I’m not sure what difference between the 60HE and the Module causes the whine to be louder but if it can be louder it can be quieter/prevented too.

#

I’m not quite sure why I don’t see this talked about more often.

Reduce the brightness ceiling, and it solves it immediately.

#

No need to artificially limit everyone.

No need. The founders read everything even if they don't always comment.

That’s a lot to read. 😂
