#80HE mold change/65HE and Smoky Keycaps (suggestion)

Part 1: From my understanding the 80HE’s molds could be made reusable for a future 65% (F-Row delete) in the same style (see attached image). Only the tops of the molds would have to be changed to transform them into 65% molds. Even the side aesthetics of the top case would support this. Seems like the perfect way to enter the 65% market and compete there as well without the cost of entirely new molds. It also creates a distinct style (80HE, 65HE) which has proven to be great for other brands. 😄

Part 2: Smoky/Translucent Keycaps for the 80HE (like the 60HE’s “Take Control” Keycaps). Again; from my understanding the molds of the current Black/White Keycaps could be reused for these. The inside/legend of a clear/transparent plastic and the outside of a smoky/translucent plastic. It’d look absolutely fantastic with the smoky/translucent case as you could see the switches as well. A con is that you’d have to use a dim RGB setting as too much light bleed could make the legends hard to distinguish. I’ve attached an example of smoky keycaps I could find, they’re glossy but you get the idea.

Thoughts?

I for sure love the smokey keycaps with the PCR black.

As far as mold swap-ability, I'm not entirely sure the case you make is true.
It would depend greatly on the manufactures injection machine, it's requirements and would likely have to be designed with at least some forethought to this approach. Where does your notion for this possibility come from?

I like the layout and I do really like the idea that other options could be explored with relative ease but, the reality is, there is so much more that goes into developing variants that I'm not sure about the feasibility. This is where marketing analysts make their money.

# cinder surge I for sure love the smokey keycaps with the PCR black. As far as mold swap-abi...

It comes from a Youtube video (I think from How It’s Made) where they spliced molds for each toy head type. A mold for the toy body came together with the mold for the toy head(s) and created the toy. I asked your thoughts for exactly this reason, you have far more knowledge than I in this.

I don’t know if it’s feasible either, I remembered that episode and thought it could work for this. Wooting is also not competing in the 65% market which seems pretty big as that’s the layout most other HE manufacturers choose to launch their product in.

Thanks a lot for your insight brother!

Oh gotcha!
I thought it was something I missed from the live event this morning.
Glad I could help!
