Mine looks the exact same from what I can tell and still functions perfectly normally. When you line the dots up does it not connect properly??

It still currently connects, but that is either a design flaw or QC issue and should not be exposed.

They don't ship that way. I find it extremely difficult to believe that exposed coupling material is the intent. It being pictured here just makes me even more confident it's a flaw in the process and not a random incident.

I guess I'm losing my mind. I could have sworn the cable was not delivered showing the silver portion. I felt mobility in the sheeth while decoupling the cable and then noticed the silver area. I checked unboxing vids and it seems that's how you ship it. My brain is fried.
