Just wanted to address some faults I found with the Alumaze shipping and potentially molding process:

First is the two tape pieces holding down the gold part. They leave residue on the case. I was able to remove it with a damp rag easily. However, this makes you wonder the tape is on for a longer amount of time (warehouse, shipping, temperature fluctuations ,etc) if it will etch into the coating. Similar things happen to colored MacBooks when stickers are on too long and you permanently ruin the finish and are left with an outline.

Second is the mold. Idk if it’s due to shipping damage or the mold but both corners on the right side have small defect/damage. The edges are a little crooked/beat up and on the top right corner there’s even a line going down from that edge. The opposite side is perfectly fine.

Same issue with the tape marks, except a wet cloth only temporarily removes them. As soon as it dries, the tape marks return. :/

I have yet to peel the tape, it’s already got damages I’ll be sending images soon and opening a case up. For the premium this case cost it doesn’t feel acceptable :/

I have not used it at all, only opened box it and not even removed any of the tape etc. Put it right back in the box for now. Going to email support rn

Image of the tape marks. Also noticed some nicks/marks in the finish that go through to bare metal on the top side of the case.

Yeah I lied. The tape marks are still there. I didn’t realize it wasn’t fully dry yet. When it’s dry it comes back.

Unfortunately I have terrible lighting in my apartment and didn’t notice it till after I finished the next day.

I’ve had two separate orders from wooting one in may with my keycaps,keyboard , and wrist rest and this new one with the case, cable, and pc plate. Both times I was very surprised by the bad shipping condition. Some boxes had punctures in them. But honestly I’m not too sure if it’s damage more so as molding issues hard to tell

at least the tape residue issue could have been prevented by better packaging, for example putting the insert in a separate cardboard cover or make a slot for it, no tape needed then. dunno how the packaging looks this time around, but yeah in general they are making it very minimal and thin on purpose. I think it would be better to have some extra protection to prevent stuff like this

Calder said that it would be alright to use isopropyl alcohol to clean the residue, should not damage the finish

Not that it’s cause of others that we do it but if I came home with 100s of dollars worth of mods for a black keyboard my girlfriend and friends would be like uhhh okay it’s a keyboard. Just like what you had before. But color alone can make it feel unique. Personally id be more creative but my ocd makes it hard to get parts that won’t match in color so the neutrals win over.

Oddly enough the issues don’t bother me that much cause I can’t see it. Normally I’d go crazy over stuff like this. Maybe the texture also throws my brain off? I almost look at it like it’s pottery or something so it seems more natural to have these “defects” just a weird take. 😂but of course would perfect it to be perfect. But just a thought.

I don’t mind this topic expanding. This is the first shipment and it’s good to know in what condition it arrived and any issues with the product.

It does seem that the MOA coating is more challenging, I hadn’t expected the sticker to leave a stain as such, looking at it, it almost looks like chemical reaction with the coating.

If you received it scuffed or damaged, do report it, we will compensate you accordingly.

Thanks! Yeah the tape is definitely a reaction. It’s not removable as I initially posted. After it dried it came right back. Personally my Alumaze didn’t seem to have much issues with knicks and such as others had. Mainly just as the misaligned/damaged corners or whatever it is. Your team has been awesome so far! I know it’s been a really busy time with the launch of a couple new products at the same time that’s why i figured I’d post it here and for feedback along with an email to support.

I saw that Calder mentioned they can only remove the tape problem going forward. I assume this is something that will only be corrected on future batches? I want to request a replacement, but not if they will still have all the problems of the current batch. Any thoughts from you guys?

It might be a little still the process changes with the tape I feel like. Manufacturing changes would take probably a batch or two plus getting rid of what’s in stock first

just thought id update but i got home and removed the tape on mine and it actually appears that there is zero discoloration... i removed the tape ungodly slow (dont know if this has any impact) but this is at least somewhat good news for those thinking about requesting a replacement

I peeled the tape on mine as an experiment and it does have the marks. I went ahead and asked support to swap for blue instead of gray even though I love the gray color. Hopefully in future once it's fixed I'll pick up a gray then!

I have taken a look concerning the black spots with units I have around here. I found that those black spots might be residue from the EVA foam in the box.

You can easily remove it by scratching it off. Can you give this a try.

I feel the Alumaze has the potential to break into the non-gamer keyboard enthusiast market because it looks nice, fits universal pcb and plates, and some people dig the tray mount sound signature. Though, how that crowd is with finishes (and stem wobble!!) is like how racing gamers are with gradually pressing key from the corner at an angle.
I've been meaning to pick one concrete up. Personally the small bubbles and rough edges are just part of the concrete-like surface material, no bigs; but the tape mark is outside my tolerance. Looking forward to future batches when it hopefully gets addressed.
