Ok so there's nothing about the switch tape mod online but I believe this was found by @cunning sail and @rotund iron
I just came along to do it only because I knew it should remove the upstroke plastic sound which i hate the most out of the lekker switches.
So technically the tempest mod is suppose to be layers of tape under the PCB which suppose to make the board poppy, but sadly it doesn't really work with the wooting because of its steel plate. (Well it works only if you don't use burger or tray mount)
Now the switch tape mod, like I said earlier this mod was technically made for the lekker switches only to remove or reduce the plastic upstroke sound that is being produce from the stem hitting top housing (Which is one of the reason its making that chattering noise) and reduces stem wobble.
So to perform this mod all you need is a strip of medical or masking tape that would fit the stem slider part of the internal and external top housing like the image shown below (Credits to GewaltofRiwa); the more layers you use, the more of the upstroke sound reduce (Maximum layers of medical tape (aka gentle paper tape): 3, Maximum layers of masking tape: 1). Then fold the tape over to in the internal and press it down for a secure stick. If using masking tape I recommend putting a little bit of lube on it as it will feel scratchy, but the tape i recommend is using medical tape as it has a soft porous feel and it can absorb the plastic to plastic clack. (Warning This can take the same amount of time it takes to lube switches;4-7 hours)

It won't, since I found this method only to soften the contact from the stem hitting the top housing. Mushy is for when you press down on the stem to actuate the switch and there's something in between the spring, like an o-ring

well i lubed all my switches and on some i overlubed the springs, they do sound better but they do feel slightly mushy, thats why i was concerned

the best thing i did for this keyboard sound wise was def the switches being lubed, i tried burger mount with both plates and it didn't do too much, the tape mod imo made it sound even worse tried 1-5 layers. the best config I heard so far was from the recent wooting video with a deskpad under it and these mods

The one I use is the bakeneko60 30a gummy oring, another o'ring you can buy is from grave shift.
In #🪛│modding_faq 30-50a are confirmed to be working fine @dense geode @sinful willow
For this mount, instead of the oring sitting on the post of the case while have pcb cut outs like normal gummy o'ring mounted boards, the module uses friction mount which the o'ring makes the module fit tightly into the case which hence the name "friction mount". This fixes the tray mount problem of the "dead sounding spots" (dead spots is when one side or certain spots of tray mount keyboards sounding uneven than other spots) and gives the board a little bit of bounce; not as bouncy as gummy mount boards though (which can be described as a hard trampoline). But I like a little bounce in my keyboard so I ended up using Polyfill. It sounded nearly the same as wooting foam but a little bit deeper, and since polyfill is what used in pillows, it has cushioning which gives the board a little bit more bounce. :)

The only difference in sound between the gummy and tray is the gummy eliminating dead sounding spots, which mean it would sound the same but this time the sound profile in certain spots or side is not uneven

I think the biggest impact here is the tape on the top housing of the switches. No matter how well you lube these lekkers that upstroke will always sound plasticky and hollow. Case foam and mounting will help the bottom out sound better but the upstroke makes it sound cheap. Great mod.

It reduces the plastic sound on the key upstroke. Generally people prefer nylon or pom top and bottom housings on their switches for the sound. The plastic is denser and sounds less hollow.

If it does work it should sound better since it's a nylon top, bonus if it helps with stem wobble. In my testing I've found that the stem wobble is the main reason why the upstroke sounds kinda meh. Could be a 2 birds with one stone sort of mod if it works without issue.

Also I don't know any other switch that has a curve on the top of the stem, so it's not likely any other top housing is going to fit

I've even tried taping the bottom housing covering the opening in the hopes the sound stays within the switch making it deeper, but I don't think there's a difference. Covering the bottom doesn't affect the actuation since it's magnetic anyways

Yeah I would imagine this has a super minor effect. The main issue with the sound is the rattle and the super hollow and cheap sounding upstroke. I actually think the bottom out of these switches sounds pretty good but when they come back up against the top housing it actually is grating to my ears.

I'm used to very premium switches like the Vertex V1s or any NovelKeys switch so the sound of the PC top housing is just super unappealing.

@wet cipher btw have you tested MLV? I think MLV would dampen better than polyfill. I filled my board with one layer of it but might pull out stock foam and go all MLV instead
