#The Split Spacebar

why? just curious
I want it!
Microsoft Sculpt had a split spacebar, and half your spacebar was backspace.
My friend had one and I´ve always been kind of jealous!
um
I'm interested
100%
but I want it to just be the start
split the whole keyboard
make it ortho
your move, wooting
rude thread bump incoming.
split spacebar is my dealmaker feature. if there is split spacebar, you have my money.
Wooting so far has done a lot to attract the osu playerbase but has neglected what players of other commercial PC rhythm games will want.
Here's my usecase. DJMAX RESPECT V includes a 10 key mode, 8B. The intended layout is to be using your pinkies and thumbs. The default layout (as shown in this frame from the teaser trailer, PIC #1) is to curl your hands so your thumbs rest on C and <. I think you can understand this is a ludicrous layout.
Many players in the community who play 8B use a fullsize keyboard instead, spreading out to the numrow and resting their thumbs on an arrow key or the 0 key instead. The choice to make a fullsize keyboard as a piece of merchandise reflects this but to me this is not the ideal layout (PIC #2). First, only perverts like fullsize keyboards (and before you bring out the pitchforks I am one of those perverts), and having to spread your arms out dampens leverage from your wrists.
(PIC #3) This is my personal keyboard for DJMAX, a Training Wheels 40 from P3D (Rest In Peace) and this is the ideal way to play DJMAX 8B on keyboard in my eyes. Thumbs right where I want them to be.
This application goes beyond DJMAX too. Sixstar Gate, O2JAM, and EZ2ON are all commercial titles with 7K modes where the intended input for the middle lane is the spacebar and a split spacebar greatly improves performance and comfort.
This was a shitload of words to say that a split spacebar would open up the 60HE to a wider rhythm game playerbase so please consider prioritizing it.
yeah definitely. just adding some sockets for additional switches and stabs would be awesome.
(i would buy a refreshed 2he if they added split spacebar support)
Just do like 4.25u spacebar (from 6.25), and place 2 more keys on either side (but 1.25u Alt keys, small 1.0u OS key further away instead, etc). What's the point of split spacebar really, it's better to reduce it in size instead and offer more keys on the sides (Alt keys closer to center, next the spacebar, because it's also more convenient in games to use left Alt key with your thumb, and it's also easier for ISO users to reach the { [ brackets with same hand with right AltGr key, easier to reach linux terminal with one hand Ctrl + Alt + T, and just better in general).
especailly for a 75%, it's actually very good to reduce spacebar something like that and have some 4 keys on the left of it, and 3 keys in good size on the right (not like 1.0u 3 keys they do with 75% now, which is too cramped)
I'd 100% buy a wooting that has a split spacebar despite just having received my 60he days ago
Is there any update from the wooting lads on this or is the demand just not high enough
Would be in for a spilt space! Specially for 60he but actually for anything that gives the thumb more triggers to press. Its the most versatile finger for gaming and its got an oversized spacebar to press. Probably the best and easiest way is to give multiple switches under the spacebar. Then every can choose if he likes one giant spacebar, two 3+u oder four 1.25u. 🧐👍
When I key map a split spacebar, I use a back spacebar on the left and a spacebar on the right.
This was office-wise convenient, and it helped me quickly replace the weapon without my hands making mistakes in shooting games. So I'm hoping for a 60% layout with split spacebars to have individual bottom buttons added. I hope the housing is slim too
Awesome, I hope the split spacebar is extended towards more layouts too. I need my arrow keys and f-row keys D:
