Please remove the switch and clean the area under it. It can be that there is some dirt covering the sensors.

Otherwise there is maybe a defect. So you should check if the emitter or sensor is effected.
For that you can point a TV remote onto the area. If the key is registering the sensor is likely fine. To check the emitter you can use a camera to check if you can see a narrow infrared beam. Best to practice first on a working key.
