#

shit ton of marketing sure

#

same will be on 5nm for amd, 5nm, pcie5, ddr5

ashen spindle
wheat plume
reef patrol
#

A quick google tells me... not by default.

wheat plume
#

but.... then how?

ashen spindle
#

that looks like a boot partition and not a swap?

wheat plume
#

I dont have a swap partition

#

Unless gparted is wrong

reef tundra
#

There are also swapfiles

wheat plume
#

yeh but I didnt make one and Ubuntu doesnt make one by default

#

I did automatic install where it setup partitions itself

#

A quick google tells me... not by default.
@reef patrol it tells me differently :')

reef patrol
#

Interesting 😄

wheat plume
reef patrol
wheat plume
#

hmm, today I learned...

#

2GB seems small though, thought swap had to be the same as your RAM amount, or half of it if you dont want to hibernate

reef tundra
#

discard the webcontent and you only need 1g anyways

wheat plume
reef tundra
#

dont skip it

wheat plume
#

im tempted

#

but I wont

reef tundra
#

it only asks for trouble

wheat plume
#

lag spikes ;-;

reef tundra
#

most oftenly it just leads to a unstartable game

wheat plume
#

oooo

#

rip

reef tundra
#

increase the nice level to lower the priority of that process

#

Pretty much tells linux kernel that it can put other processes infront of it and work on it when idling

#

turns it into an background task and allows you to use the pc without too much lag spikes.

cursive summit
#

@ashen spindle You have piqued my interest

#

And here it is

#

Key takeaway here

#

RX 6800XT in 10 GAMES

#

AT 1440P or 4K resolution

#

AT 4K, 6800XT WINS against RTX 3080 in 5 games

#

TIES in 2

#

LOSES in 3

#

No games were mentioned as it's against his leaker's wishes

#

But this is from the AMD slides they will show on 28th

#

This is RX 6800XT btw

#

Not the top of the line one

#

IN 1440P

#

RTX 3080 LOSES in 8 titles

#

And beats AMD in 2 titles

crimson wigeon
#

blobhyperthinkfast now you've got my attention

cursive summit
#

RTX perf wise, Nvidia wins

#

RTX 2080Ti = RX 6800XT in terms of raytracing

#

But not close to RTX 3000 series at all

#

AMD also possesses some kind of upsampling technology

chrome estuary
#

wait so what games are they?

cursive summit
#

DLSS but AMD equivalent

chrome estuary
#

i mean if this isn't just a load of bullshit... I might buy one

cursive summit
#

I am fairly sure this data is taken from AMD slides they will show

#

Oh the guy just mentioned AMD DLSS equivalent will launch later

#

Not at launch

#

Pricing wise, AMD don't know their prices yet

#

They are doing the Jensen method

#

Deciding on the price just before the presentation

#

An unconfirmed leaker also told this guy, that AMD will not price the cards aggressively

#

They might be barely cheaper or even match Nvidia

zenith sonnet
#

Nvidia got years headstart on optimising RTRT performance, so AMD can only gain on that front
But given how irrelevant it still is, for me it's not a deciding factor at all

cursive summit
#

It's relevant for players who play on 8K TVs

#

Soo.. like 0.01% of the population lul

zenith sonnet
#

Release me from Cryo sleep when we have 8K 144Hz

cursive summit
#

I'll wake you up in 2025

ashen spindle
#

jesus what happend here

#

did you transcribe the video

cursive summit
#

AMD murdering NVDIA

#

Yeah

#

Anyways he dropped all the good stuff in the first minutes of the video

#

Later it was just ramblings

reef patrol
#

Does it show games with RT enabled?

#

Can't open video rn lul

cursive summit
#

He didn't say anything of RT games

reef patrol
cursive summit
#

But he spoke of RT performance being worse

#

So AMD might have a thing or two to show

#

If he knows about the perf

ashen spindle
#

it's a bit above turing

cursive summit
#

He says 6800XT is on par with 2080Ti

#

I now really wonder how the RX 6900XT will do

ashen spindle
#

(for RT its on par) otherwise its much better

cursive summit
#

Oh and Nvidia cancelling their 2x RAM cards was a mistake I heard

#

They thought they were fine, and now they are panicking

#

AMD really caught them unprepared

ashen spindle
#

not like they would've done anything anyway beside saying we got more ram

cursive summit
#

What are the RTX 3070Ti rumours?

#

Oh this one

ashen spindle
#

same like with 16/20gb versions, depends on what amd launches

cursive summit
#

GeForce RTX 3090: 10,496 CUDA cores, 384-bit memory bus, 24GB GDDR6X
GeForce RTX 3080: 8,704 CUDA cores, 320-bit memory bus, 10GB GDDR6X
GA102-150-KD-A1: 7,424 CUDA cores, 320-bit memory bus, ????
GeForce RTX 3070: 5,888 CUDA cores, 256-bit memory bus, 8GB GDDR6

#

So a shit load more cores

reef tundra
#

pog

cursive summit
#

That's not just a RAM increase

ashen spindle
#

if they put one card in that slot between 70 and 80, they definitely will put out a ti there

cursive summit
#

3070Ti looks like a 3080 killer

ashen spindle
#

bc they aint giving that area in the market up for free

#

nah more likely to make 70 buyers regret it

cursive summit
#

70 isn't out yet, and they are already killing it off lul

ashen spindle
#

heavily depends if it would use g6 or g6x

cursive summit
#

Why heavily?

#

AMD is winning with GDDR6

#

Against 6X

ashen spindle
#

if it's a 80 killer or just making 70 owners regret it

#

cant be both

cursive summit
#

I feel like it won't use 6X

#

For lower price

#

They want to earn money, but also to beat AMD

#

GDDR6 might be enough for a response while also giving some extra margins for profit

#

Jensen needs his new jackets

#

Are people doing a watch party here of AMD's presentation? lul

ashen spindle
#

no it depends on if the controller can even use 6x or not

zenith sonnet
#

Watch party sounds cool

#

When is it again?

#

Wednesday, what time?

reef patrol
cursive summit
#

@zenith sonnet 12 pm Eastern

zenith sonnet
#

What's that in world time?

cursive summit
#

Which timezone you in?

#

GMT+2?

zenith sonnet
#

Yeah

cursive summit
#

So 18:00 it seems like

#

We doing a watch party boys? lul

#

And gals?

crimson wigeon
#

Hell yeah

zenith sonnet
#

Oh wow

#
#

I left this running since yesterday

#

And moved from 16% to 19%

#

Why is this website slowing down SO much?

#

It's a calculation that should be done in a couple seconds

#

It does not freeze...

cursive summit
#

For a second I thought that this was a calculator for weight loss

crimson wigeon
#

Yes, for serif sans-serif and monospace I have my preferred font first and then my preferred emoji font

#

I'm not 100% sure if it's the right way to do it but it works so whatever

thick elk
#

the other way around also works, I set my emoji font first. If a character is missing it goes to the next font in line. emoji fonts only include emoji's and non emoji fonts mostly don't include them.

crimson wigeon
#

Probably but I don't trust the emoji font to not have any normal characters

thick elk
#

chances of that happening are lower than the other way around

ashen spindle
#

https://twitter.com/patrickschur_/status/1320346548937641986 looks like it's be a good contender of for the 3080 with marginally lower power draw, nice

Here are some results with a TGP of 255 W. Don't ask me what's the difference between 255 W and 289 W models.

I'm in 12 servers but basically just this and our personal server. The rest are for random games/projects I'm following

ashen spindle

handful of servers

for the emojis?

cause seriously wtf

ashen spindle

ehh like 15ish for emotes when I had nitro

some for beat saber/beat saber modding etc. and similar for a few other games

honest jolt
#

so many of you are using linux for work / gaming. what distro could you recommend to a linux noob? How's gaming with proton/wine: do you have many issues (also little: like intro music not playing etc.)? And how is gaming, when you want to play something not tripple A?

pale sigil
#

Ha

#

^

#

Just don't play destiny 2

#

XD

#

Insta ban

honest jolt
#

yeah, i heard the issue with linux and anti cheat / mutiplayer. does this also include denuvo and co?

pale sigil
#

Yes

#

Never mind pro

#

Works for proton apparently

#

Anti cheats are risky with Linux

#

Always

honest jolt
#

@digital cliff well, thats not good. it's not that i do play many games with anti cheat, but that's quite the dealbreaker (excluding migration of data). Thanks for your help tho @pale sigil and @digital cliff.

ashen spindle

#

granted its just design and then resell the panels

crisp granite
#

bruh

#

first with legos and now monitors

misty saffron
#

can somebody please tell me i didn’t fuck up by buying arturia minilab mkii

#

obviously it had to be something nice and cheap - first device of a kind for me

neat oriole
#

Porsche Design and Porsche are separate companies technically

#

And Porsche Design is pretty legit as a design company

ashen spindle
#

sure but they are still not going to make any improvements as they dont make the panels

#

they only thing would be a push of better panels that others dont push as hard

#

(in terms of being a good adition to monitor options)

neat oriole
#

Well it would just be AOC [model name] by Porsche Design or something

#

It’s purely for aesthetics

#

They’re a design company

ashen spindle
#

well they could be pushing for a good panel (and be overpriced in their mondel) but might be cheaper for others as a cause of bigger production volumes

#

or, more likely, wont really change much

neat oriole
#

I mean they’ll just be making fancy looking low production volume monitors

ashen spindle
#

probably yeah

neat oriole
#

That’s what they do with phones at least

misty saffron
#

i really like my porsche design glasses

ashen spindle
#

I really like my porsche design porsche

urban lynx
#

i really like my porsche design TRACTOR

neat oriole
#

Say what you will but Porsche design is a legit design company

#

They don’t just paint some Chinese oem stuff red and slap a horse logo on It like a certain other brand

misty saffron
#

good design company as well

#

shit they make actually looks quite expensive

thick elk
reef tundra

The kernel is my antivirus

i want a new gpu

FINALLY!

halcyon moss

exciting hardware times

AMD cpu, gpu, nvidia, xbox, ps5

i just want a gpu before mid november pls

And announce them a month later

crimson wigeon

What if "On store shelves... tomorrow!"

zenith sonnet

We'd have a lot of leaks rn

urban lynx

someone would speak

zenith sonnet

Same as with the 5000 series

Which are due Nov. 5th

ashen spindle
#

I do expect some SKU to be out before november 10, idk which one though

#

other dates, no clue

wheat plume
halcyon moss
#

clickbait, but i'll bite

wheat plume
#

welp

halcyon moss
#

geezus that tone is over the top scary

wheat plume
halcyon moss
#

ok, not ganno wathc it all, its terrible. seems suiper easy to prove. just have a audio spectrum analyser and show it.

#

yet the video does not show proof, and only stock image scare mongering

reef tundra
#

The titles alone give me the impression of it fearmongering

#

Jeez, the video itself comes across as the delusional truman with the fbi in his frontgarden.

wheat plume
#

:')

halcyon moss
#

what does that even mean lana

wheat plume
#

delusional truman with the fbi in his frontgarden.

halcyon moss
#

i thought that was default since a while

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah

#

Although if you flash custom ROMs and what not you can remove the encryption..

wheat plume
#

yeh, but flashing a custom rom does a factory reset

#

so if someone tries that they wont get anything from you

crimson wigeon
#

Obviously it would require a complete wipe yeah

halcyon moss
#

unlocking requires a factory reset

thick elk
#

Remember that encryption on android only really works if you use a password for login

wheat plume
#

the only time that there is no factory reset is if you are not encrypted and you change custom rom, cause you only need to wipe system , cache and vendor but internal storage is not wiped

thick elk
#

otherwise the encryption keys themselves have to be stored on the device which allows it to be decrypted

pale sigil
#

A lot of phones are decrypted by default now

#

Which is why you have to wipe pretty much when flashing etc

#

Also why you can't access your phone files without unlocking or access them via a bootloader

wheat plume
reef tundra
#

that resolution

wheat plume
#

he has 3 screens

#

or 2

#

not too sure

thick elk
#

The problem is most android phones do it poorly, with the right tools you can obtain the files, unless the person actually bothered to properly encrypt with a password on top.

#

Or rather you have to store the encryption keys somewhere. Fingerprints cannot be used for that, neither will a unlock pattern or simple pin code be sufficient.

wheat plume
#

my roms in android 10 were encrypted, I had to use a pattern to unlock the recovery and also it took about 20 seconds after logging in to display my home screen

thick elk
#

apple does this with a propriatary security chip.

wheat plume
#

but 11 isnt rn

thick elk
#

I deliberately encrypted mine with a password on top, data gets unlocked by typing in the password at boot and again every 24 hours.

halcyon moss
#

@pale sigil encrypted or decrypted?

wheat plume
#

and again every 24 hours.
your phone turns off every 24 hours so you can decrypt it?

thick elk
#

it just prompts for password, so technically that is just on the lock screen

wheat plume
#

ooohhhhh

#

my phone does that too

#

every so often when I try to use fingerprint to unlock it prompts for my pattern

pale sigil
#

Encrypted

#

Tired xD

wheat plume
#

not really, the recovery isnt

halcyon moss
#

go to bed on time :p

pale sigil
#

Never

wheat plume
#

:P

halcyon moss
#

</old ppl advice>

ashen spindle

either intel CEO might change again soon or I'm getting baited and its a different big company 👀

#

also anyone know where you see patch notes for future linux patches? seems like the next ones are having some details about AMD gpus

ashen spindle

oh that was too easy lmao thx

ashen spindle
cursive summit
#

That's.. a lot

36% uplift

#

Damn bro pepesweat

I really can't wait for that lul

ashen spindle

It'll be about futureproofing through AVX 512

ashen spindle

could've gotten a 5600x two weeks ago already :p

pale sigil

wot

ashen spindle

a french site fucked up and listed it, at least one person got one :p

pale sigil
#

loool

crisp granite

bruh

#

that person is one lucky bastard

ashen spindle
#

but the guy didn't have a board so he couldnt use it yet lel

pale sigil
#

I was gonna say he aint lucky

#

cos he wont be able to use it

#

lol

#

i just want the cpu in my hand

#

im not in a rush to use it

#

just want to make sure i have one

crisp granite
#

same

#

as with all parts, better to get one while you can

crimson wigeon
#

I just want it all now so I can finally build a new rig that's actually capable of doing stuff

crisp granite
#

yeah

pale sigil
#

in an ideal world

#

yes

#

but right now its not ideal

#

xD

crisp granite
#

my dual core is on it's last legs

pale sigil
#

there is no way im getting a 3080

#

i have a 7700k

#

lol

#

So im not desperate

crisp granite
#

that's great

#

7700K is a great chip

crisp granite
#

compared to Zen 3, no

pale sigil
#

its shite

#

its the last Intel dud CPU were they refused to make a change

#

i should have got a 8700k

old marlin
#

I mean

#

7700k fills all you need for gaming

#

in ALMOST all cases

pale sigil
#

gaming

old marlin
#

you can also OC it to the moon and back

crisp granite
#

true

pale sigil
#

Fuck ocing

old marlin
#

yea

pale sigil
#

i did fr some time

old marlin
#

it is easy af with them

pale sigil
#

5ghz

old marlin
#

yea

pale sigil
#

anyway

#

Fuck Intel

old marlin
#

lol

crisp granite
#

selling dual cores in 2020

pale sigil
#

I just want a cpu that can do everything good

#

when im gaming anything outside of it is just meh

old marlin
#

problem is just how bad HT is in comparison to actual cores

#

well idk what you are doing

crimson wigeon
#

I'm tired of having to wait for so long for my kernel to compile ecks dee

old marlin
#

for anything intensive outside gaming a modern ryzen will be better

#

well for compiling intel is shit anyways

crisp granite
#

intel just sucks for anything other than E-sports

old marlin
#

wat

crisp granite
#

AMD pulls ahead in some games

old marlin
#

the input delay shit is wrong

#

just not true

crisp granite
#

that scale with moar corez

old marlin
#

and in e-sports AMD is pulling ahead by now

#

fps wise

pale sigil
#

On aeverage

  • Game
  • Discord (Modified)
  • Many tabs which end up being cpu intense
  • Whatsapp
  • SFTP/Terminal stuff (takes fuck all but lising anyway)
  • Running steam
  • Usually vscode etc sometimes when gaming
  • Loads of other shit i cant remember form the top of my head
old marlin
#

I am glad I got a 6600k dogeKek

pale sigil
#

i had a 6600k

#

xD

old marlin
#

made it much easier to argue why I need a new one

ashen spindle
#
  • Usually vscode etc sometimes when gaming
    why
pale sigil
#

cos sometimes when im parting up or waiting for games i do some stuff

#

on my other monitor

ashen spindle
#

do just tab out and code while respawning

crimson wigeon
#

Hell yeah wish I was smart enough to do that

pale sigil
#

cba

#

prefer to jsut go to my other monitor

ashen spindle
#

I mean, great if it works, I could just not see how I could focus on both at the same time

pale sigil
#

and a lot of the time i need to keep an eye on my game

ashen spindle
#

yes tab out is the same as using other monitor here

pale sigil
#

i thought you meant minimize tab out sort of thing

#

lol

#

Also 7700k is really lacking if im trying to push 144fps

old marlin
#

what clock are you running at

pale sigil
#

4.6 atm because i had no benefit in the games i play

#

so i just left it

old marlin
#

if it makes no difference

#

I doubt you are CPU capped

pale sigil
#

i am, i did a lot of research on it, the games i play are mostly cpu bound for past 100 for some reason

#

im not sure why

ashen spindle
#

how are you cpu bound if 400mhz increase does nothing for you gloryT

pale sigil
#

Guess im wording it wrong

#

What im saying is some games i play start relying on the cpu for over 100, gpu it makes no difference.

#

And the gap seems to be quite big when it comes to say the 10700k

old marlin
#

the 7700k cores are just as fast as 10700k cores

#

if you run at the same clock

cursive summit
#

Dunno how about you lads but I am excited af for Wednesday

pale sigil
#

at 1440p

#

btw

cursive summit
#

I really need to see the prices for the new GPUs

pale sigil
#

Whats wed

ashen spindle
#

amd

old marlin
#

a 10700k is basically 2 7700k in one cpu

cursive summit
#

I am getting a 4K TV soon and I want to play games natively on it

#

AMD's next gen cards

pale sigil
#

Ohh

#

i forgot

crisp granite
#

right

cursive summit
#

18:00 GMT+2

crisp granite
#

I gotta prepare for thursday

cursive summit
#

So for France it's what, 16:00?

#

Germany 17:00?

pale sigil
#

D2 for example

#

Shit on the 7700k

crimson wigeon
#

Garbage on the 2600k

pale sigil
#

At 1440p

#

its starts to rely on the cpu a lot more

#

1080p is fine

ashen spindle
#

uhhhhh

crimson wigeon
#

Does it ever not? Framerate is just as shit no matter what graphics settings I put it at

ashen spindle
#

are you sure increasing resolution is taxing your cpu more ?

pale sigil
#

d2 does not increase fps if you reduce the settings no

old marlin
#

it can't use the extra cores though pepeThonk

pale sigil
#

its all ive noticed

old marlin
#

of something like a 10700k

#

like

pale sigil
#

from seeing a lot of shit on youtube and benchmarks

#

i dont know whats going on

old marlin
#

if it only runs on 4C 8T

#

a 7700k at 5.0ghz will perform as good as a 9900k

pale sigil
#

but d2 does not utilize the gpu to its full but it does the cpu, i compared a lot of cpus with the sasme cards

#

So like the 3900x

#

with my gpu gets bter fps

old marlin
#

should be high enough?

pale sigil
#

these benchmarks are old or are only from the intro

old marlin
#

ok

#

but still

pale sigil
#

its nonsense

old marlin
#

if the game does not use the extra cores

#

the 7700k is basically as fast as it gets

#

for intel

#

if you oc it

pale sigil
#

ultra does not run past 60 in some places on a 1080

#

but you gain fuck all from going less

old marlin
#

I am certain you are not CPU bound then

pale sigil
#

which is another weirds shitshow on d2

old marlin
#

if an OC does not help switching the CPU also won't

pale sigil
#

Like i said same shit but a 3900x seems to outperform me

#

meh

#

either way

#

i hate intel

#

its my main reason

#

xD

old marlin
#

bad reason to switch

pale sigil
#

And i want to make a new build

#

from scatch

old marlin
#

I am sure you have better ways to spend money

#

keyboards or mice for example dafoe

#

or a nice set of headphones with a good dac and amp

pale sigil
#

My biggest factor for a new cpu in general though is a new system

#

a fresh build

#

i dont wanna buy a 3080

#

and put it in my current system

#

i want a new mobo for 2nvme slots, new case etc

#

so i just decided i wanna make a whole new build

#

im wanting to go full nvme + 1 ssd

ashen spindle
#

why do you want to go for nvme over sata, cant be looks if you already got a sata

pale sigil
#

tis why

#

my os drive is an nvme

ashen spindle
#

ok?

pale sigil
#

so i wanna scrap the rest

#

and just get a second 2tb

#

oh wait

#

you meant sata m2?

ashen spindle
#

yes I said sata not HDD

#

no not sata m2

#

just sata SSD

pale sigil
#

i wanna just not use drives anymore, if i get a 2tb nvme

#

i can just not even use a sata ssd

ashen spindle
#

so it's just for looks

pale sigil
#

More i just wanna scrap using drives

#

NVME is just ideal because its part of the mobo

ashen spindle
#

theory yes, practice not really, aside from certain applications

pale sigil
#

vs drive slots

#

i can also prob get a case thats smaller maybe

#

cos of no drive bays

ashen spindle
#

I'm in favor of moving away from sata, but its just still costing more for the next couple years

#

dont need a drive bay for sata SSDs

pale sigil
#

Well no

ashen spindle
#

plenty that let you mount it on the back or above the PSU shroud

pale sigil
#

but cases have designated areas still

#

like at the back

#

ye

#

idk i just love the idea of having all my storage on my mobo i guess

#

its nice

#

ever since i got my first nvme ive wanted to do that

ashen spindle
#

I mean that's fine, just like extra rgb, it's not my money lol

#

you hate them that much?

#

im confused

pale sigil
#

i hate rgb

crimson wigeon
#

I love it, many ports so can attach loads of storage, easily hotpluggable too!

pale sigil
#

get a nas

crimson wigeon
#

I also want it to be performant

#

And just work, networked storage has always been a bit iffy for me

ashen spindle
#

I'll get a NAS soon but for other reasons and probably wont use it as storage or backup

#

mostly because the only stuff taking up space is games lmao

old marlin
#

sata is a shit connector ngl

pale sigil
#

@crimson wigeon just get 7200rpm drives with a gigabit switch

crimson wigeon
#

I'll probably give it another shot when I build a new computor and have to figure out what to do with this one

ashen spindle
#

if you dont need the feature of it being not on your pc, a NAS just adds quite a decent extra cost imo

#

in other news, intel just can't stop

#

falling down

#

this is about how far it went down at the covid crash at its worst

crimson wigeon
#

oh no

ashen spindle
#

any more down and we look at pre-2018 lmao

#

now the question, is a CEO change going to cause a rebound or a bigger fall lmao

crisp granite
#

depends

#

if the CEO is a big name, maybe a rebound

thick elk
#

Wouldn't surprise me if Intel goes the way of IBM, slowly but surely.

cursive summit
#

What even does IBM do anymore?

thick elk
#

cloud, servers, software the usual stuff

crisp granite
#

IBM is an SI, I think

#

as well

crimson wigeon
#

IBM is still massive and recently acquired Red Hat so is technically in control of the "standard" GNOME Linux desktop now ecks dee

crisp granite
#

oh

thick elk
#

They still are pretty large just much less visible

crisp granite
#

it's a shame that they still don't make model M keebs anymore

#

they sold that branch off

ashen spindle
#

yeah intel won't fail and shut down, they're just at risk of turning into a big husk

#

I just hope they turn around bc I dont want an amd monopoly either

crisp granite
#

true

#

then we'd have a "you only need X cores"

#

all over again

thick elk
#

I fear that even if they manage to hold their own the desktop space really won't be their prime target. For them to really compete in the desktop they have to mostly dominate in the server / laptop market.

crisp granite
#

yeah

#

the mobile segment is growing super fast

ashen spindle
#

Luckily you can’t really compete in servers with a product that totally sucks in desktop

#

Unless you’re going ARM I guess

crisp granite
#

MOAR COREZ

thick elk
#

You can if your architecture is the complete opposite of what intel offers

#

low power but doesn't scale too well with frequency

#

that is great for servers

ashen spindle
#

Ehh even servers need some degree of single core IPC

thick elk
#

I really hope they don't try to win with vendor lock-ins and other shady tactics.

#

IPC sure but you don't need cores that push to insane power figures and 5ghz

#

so a more efficient core that may be capped a bit lower is still great.

crimson wigeon
#

WPF in 2020 thonk

wheat plume
#

yeh .-.

#

we arent allowed use windows form but it seems WPF has a GUI designer much like the forms one

ashen spindle
#

it's fairly simple and similar to winforms

#

and they are opening it up with netcore I think

wheat plume
#

idk what that is

ashen spindle
#

.NET Core

wheat plume
#

oh

#

duh

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah it's more "modern" and lets you do fancy crap more easily

wheat plume
#

so thats why its called "Windows Presentation Foundation"

crimson wigeon
#

Just hope you like data binding

wheat plume
#

huh?

ashen spindle
#

lets hope you wont't need to learn MVVM or any of that, but maybe you already had it

wheat plume
#

I know, I skipped it

#

but if I need to activate it

crimson wigeon
#

You do, full fat VS requires you to be signed in else it won't stay activated

ashen spindle
#

.. you already had an account for when you used c# in the past why does this even matter

wheat plume
#

that account ran out at the end of September

crimson wigeon
#

I don't think accounts expire

ashen spindle
#

how tf did you make an account that runs out if the default account is valid forever?????

#

its just a microsoft account

wheat plume
#

default account?

ashen spindle
#

sure

#

but here you also get a gigantic product for free and you only need to sign in for if you need it longer or cetain things

#

and the account you make is free

#

dont see an issue here

wheat plume
#

issue is my account no longer activates it

ashen spindle
#

are you sure

wheat plume
ashen spindle
#

Lana

#

please

#

wheat plume

oh VB

crimson wigeon
#

Reading is overrated

wheat plume

:')

#

idk honestly

im sure I have something, I have issues speaking sentences without using the wrong tense or version of a word

#

I need two screens so badly,

crisp granite

dual monitor time!

ashen spindle
#

use your laptop as one?

wheat plume
#

wat

ashen spindle
#

use your laptop as one

wheat plume
#

thats got hdmi output

ashen spindle
#

so either see if you can use it with just a cable or put windows on it and use it as a wireless monitor

wheat plume
#

now I got to figure out this sample project

ashen spindle
#

I mean, you can certainly ask for a better look and get a much more complex sample :p

crimson wigeon
#

Ah yes looks like someone snuck in a Vista era sample

wheat plume
#

thats the microsoft sample project :')

ashen spindle
#

bit outdated on the look but you will probably like the site for looking up stuff and such https://www.wpftutorial.net/

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah probably a good idea to actually explore those kinds of resources, I didn't back when I was mucking about with WPF and did some truly horrendous things

ashen spindle
#

it's a bit weird because many tutorials seem to follow MVVM or some other model and it's changed what people think about those models, what is "in"

crimson wigeon
#

What's wrong with MVVM

ashen spindle
#

nothing per se

#

but if one is following mvvm and another tutorial is using mvc or whatever it's not as easy to follow I feel

ashen spindle
#

finally, a review of the latest AMD product is live

reef tundra
#

That is some realistic looking graphics

karmic imp
#

Yo guys.

Some of you might be able to help.

I have a project I'm currently designing.

A brain child born of looking at VR backpacks while wearing my wireless headset.

I already have a few ideas on how to make it happen, but. Y'all know of a good way to do a low latency USB passthrough over WiFi? I don't need the full 5Gbps of USB 3.0, but probably could use a solid 400Mbps connection over at most 30 feet of 5GHz.

Right now my best guess is, NoMachine remote desktop and passthrough

#

I know NoMachine is capable of high bandwidth low latency passthrough, and I bet the latency will be even better over direct WiFi connection, but it'd be more energy efficient if there was other methods

ashen spindle
#

so what exactly do you want to do, a custom protocol to transfer usb data so you have basically a wireless usb plug?

#

why wouldn't wifi 6 work?

karmic imp
#

Doesn't need to be custom, just needs to be effective. It would literally be a USB passthrough - some way to take the input of a USB device, transmit it over WiFi and make it register as a USB device on a target computer as if it was physically connected to it.

Wdym wifi 6? Explain how that'd work. Keep in mind I can't change the USB protocol simply because it's an existing physical peripheral on one end lol

ashen spindle
#

I was thinking of wifi6 bc I'm pretty sure that has enough bandwith for what you listed with 400mbps

karmic imp
#

OH YES for sure

#

That's the primary carrier plan

#

it's less about the bandwidth of the medium and more about protocol/methods to make sure that bandwidth is used effectively and latency is kept to a reasonable level

#

like I'd say... Maximum 20ms delay as a hunch, probably lower.

#

Since as I said failed to mention, it'd be to passthrough the video and audio signals of a VR headset

#

And I know even 2.4GHz might be fast enough - the specific VR headset actually would work over USB 2.0

ashen spindle
#

so basically you want to make a vive wireless adapter ?

karmic imp
#

So it doesn't use more than 480Mbps of bandwidth

#

Basically? Oculus Quest but the principle is the same really

#

Realistically if the method works it should work with any headset

#

...

At least any headset that can connect via USB. Which I have no idea how many of today's headsets do. Is there any headsets that still use a dedicated HDMI connection?

ashen spindle
#

have you looked at the wireless adapters for the rift from tpcast and such?

karmic imp
#

I just did and it looks like they're not available anymore lol

#

Ridge was absolutely lousy for the Quest

ashen spindle
#

good chance they stopped production since the rift is discontinued I guess

karmic imp
#

And looking at the prices of similar devices, I could do it cheaper with my method

#

And with a longer battery life

ashen spindle
#

I can't really think of a simple way to do it without making basically a copy of it, have some controller convert it to a wifi signal and have a reciever that listens to it, I dont know if there are thing out there that just do it but I doubt it

#

though I am also due to work currently filled with a hatred towards networking mostly due to marketing bullshit to I might be looking at it a bit too pessimistic lmao

karmic imp
#

lmao.

I'll definitely just be giving remote desktop USB passthrough a try then, for now

cursive summit

I love leaks GWcmeisterPeepoEZ

reef tundra

But I forgot what it is

ashen spindle
reef tundra

lol

old marlin
#

rip intel a bit more

reef tundra
#

duopoly in the semiconductor industry dream is even closer

#

maybe now Intel will pickup the slack and update the ui to current decade

ashen spindle
#

what ui?

#

and most of this is much more for stuff vs nvidia than intel, though it definitely helps against both

reef tundra
#

The nightmare fuel called Quartus which is from Intel's subsiduary Altera. the main competator in the fpga industry

#

Bought them in 2017 or 2018 or something

#

oh it was 2015 damn. even worse.

#

The installer caused bsod for some people lol

cursive summit
#

Is xilinx an important acquisition?

#

How would AMD benefit from this?

#

Oh good god

#

I knew I should have invested into their stock

#

This is better than bitcoin..

ashen spindle
#

you could compare it similar to intel getting altera or nvidia getting mellanox

#

bit more than mellanox I guess

reef tundra
#

Xilinx is the biggest player on the fpga scene. Which is growing somewhat the last few years for AI, 5G and other high-end functionality.

thick elk
#

It is more similar to altera and intel, as together the two companies largely control the FPGA market.
So I'd say mostly rip Nvidia in this case.

ashen spindle
#

intel has done bascially nothing with altera since they got it, dont think that changed anything for nvidia

thick elk
#

I guess, neither AMD nor Intel are companies that push for big vendor lock-ins

#

they can however leverage altera and xilinx if nvidia ever tries to lock them out with ARM.

ashen spindle
#

they had no option to do so, intel had no gpus to use with xeons, amd had no cpus that anyone would use in servers

thick elk
#

In general intels other businesses are still pretty open, intel network chips used on amd and so forth

reef tundra
#

Nvidia would have a slight advantage for owning arm aswell, lowering the costs for the licencing of hardcore processors on the zync product line eg.

#

but why bother when you can just collect royalties

crisp granite
crimson wigeon
#

Alright what's this clickbait about

halcyon moss

its a decent card

crisp granite

this is actually a fairly positive review

halcyon moss

ashen spindle

thick elk

I find all this rushing to buy these cards pretty stupid, just wait a bit, it's often not like a few extra weeks or months matter that much in the grand scheme of things.

crisp granite

wheat plume

crisp granite

ashen spindle

crisp granite

crisp granite

but will the AMD cards be on shelves this weekend?

ashen spindle

idk, they only ever said before the consoles and the first console is on nov10

crisp granite
#

so possibly

#

but highly unlikely

ashen spindle
#

not like any nvidia card is on an actual shelf right now lul

crisp granite

actually

my local canada computers has one RTX 3090 TUF Gaming

#

$2279.99

#

#

what are the prices for the 30ti's?

#

also the 70 and 60

crisp granite
#

ti's haven't been announced yet

#

70 will be $500 USD

#

60 not announced yet

ashen spindle
#

60 ti is most likely 100$ less than the 3070 and comes out november

hard thicket
#

i wonder if there will be a 60 at all

#

i rather expect a refreshed 2000 series

#

would kinda make sense

ashen spindle
#

there will be a 60

#

20 series refresh makes 0 sense

hard thicket
#

how comes

#

it wouldn't be anything new at all

#

considering the mess that has been done with the 1650, 1660 etc

ashen spindle
#

yeah but unlike that, the entire stack of rtx 30xx will have RTX

#

so just make smaller dies of ampere for lower cost cards

hard thicket
#

has it been confirmed that its lower cost ?

#

like i've not heard much about how well the yield is at all

#

considering the current supply dilemma aswell 🤔

ashen spindle
#

.. yes? a much smaller dies is much cheaper, then you get it from samsung on a much cheaper node

#

you would need at elast like a 2070die to put it into a 3060 so that would be extremely expensive

hard thicket
#

okay have to point that out, pretty sure no one beside nvidia thenself knows the precise costs of manufacturing the turing dies or the ampere dies, it's a little bit of a tinfoil conspiracy, but i personally highly doubt that they'd show anyone the exact numbers of that

#

due to profit and well yeah profit.

ashen spindle
#

its no rocket science that a smaller chip on a cheaper node is cheaper, than a bigger die on a more expensive node

hard thicket
#

well doubt that it's that simple either, dont get me wrong

ashen spindle
#

how so

#

what else would there be to it

hard thicket
#

i am no expert in lithography processes but due to how both manufactures use different approaches in manufacturing their dies definetly does make a difference in their effective yield they get

#

just my personal opinion to that

ashen spindle
#

ok but that doesn't change that SS is vastly cheaper than tsmc, and that a smaller die is cheaper from both a yield and raw cost perspective

that RX69420 launch

#

and I doubt it

#

I'm sure the cards will be competitive at each price point but not much else

ashen spindle
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯ you're welcome to be shown otherwise

crisp granite
#

ok then

#

granted

#

if the RX cards are readily available, they will smoke the RTX 3000 series

crimson wigeon
#

Sure thing brah

crisp granite
#

tell me I'm wrong

#

that a card that you can get at MSRP is better than one you can get for 3000% of MSRP

ashen spindle
#

not gonna blame you for doubting it btw, I think rdna1 was a dumpster so skepticism is valid

crisp granite
#

and the claims of doubled power efficiency from GCN seems unlikely

#

not like that matters much in the grand scheme of things

ashen spindle
#

I mean, we have proof of that already

crisp granite
#

actually?

ashen spindle
#

people like to forget we got quite an in-depth hot chips talk about the xbox SoC which for the most part is just RDNA2

crisp granite
#

Zen 2 and RDNA 2 iirc

ashen spindle
#

yup

#

obviously won't translate 1 to 1 to how its put on a dGPU

crisp granite
#

with 16 GB of GDDR6 as both System RAM and VRAM?

#

I still don't get it

ashen spindle
#

but you can just take the changes, apply it on a 5xxx card and have a good estimation

crisp granite
#

true

ashen spindle
#

I mean the cpu part doesn't matter, we know enough about zen2 that you can quite accurately remove powerdraw and everything from it

crisp granite
#

yeah

#

but GPU performance pinned it at 1660 to 2060 Super levels

#

apparently

ashen spindle
#

uhhh what

#

but regardless, even if that were true it wouldnt matter

crisp granite
#

this was reporting from 6+ months ago

#

I don't care much for consoles

ashen spindle
#

yeah seems a bit older, also as the consoles obviously would use a cut down size, that doesn't matter for extrapolating data to the 80CU models

crisp granite
#

how many CUs do the consoles have?

ashen spindle
#

its 36 for ps5

#

dont remember xbox

crisp granite
#

oh

#

looking at performance of RTX 3080 and 3090, the core count doesn't provide a linear increase in performance
