urban lynx
#

i know you may not agree with liking such, but saying "weeb shit" seems quite offensive to me.

crisp granite
#

better?

urban lynx
#

also no, i watched black clover, and it was kind of okay, but kinda didnt like to continue watching that

#

if you're asking if I'm satisfied: No. I'm a woman. I'm never satisfied.

crisp granite
#

bruh

#

every female is like that

#

and it kills me

#

is "good" enough for you?

old marlin
#

Black clover

#

More like AAAAAAAAAAAAAA

ashen spindle
#

accurate lul

#

anyway

#

rip

true quest
#

gg

crisp granite
#

still getting an 8gb 3070

urban lynx
#

black clover seemed interesting, but i dunno.
didnt like it i guess.

crisp granite
#

8gb is plenty

#

for 1080p, at least

ashen spindle
#

My two guesses: either gddr6x shortage and they need to make the normal variants first

#

or because they save these version for a 7nm refresh next year or something in that area

crisp granite
#

yeah

#

makes sense

urban lynx
#

btw i apologise for my autism to cause me to sometimes not being easily able to let go a topic in a conversation.
it trips me over on occasion.
sorry!

crisp granite
#

?

#

no need to apologize

ashen spindle
#

don't think that has been an issue here, you're good

crisp granite
#

you've done nothing wrong

misty saffron
#

don’t apologize for something beyond your control

urban lynx
#

must... apologize... to alleviate... bad... feels

fair gull
#

sorry that u feel bad

cursive summit
#

The anime I understand why people don't like it

#

The voice actor of Asta at first was hard to listen to

#

But now it's just fine, he even sings

fair gull
#

im also hard when listening to asta

misty saffron
cursive summit
#

I think rn the main problem is the studio itself, there are problems with the animation

#

The anime and especially the manga are doing bits

ashen spindle
#

idk seemed accurate, a overblown more annoying version of naruto, was the first series I dropped after I was in for more than like 20 chapters

cursive summit
#

Manga's just out of this world in terms of good

#

If you endure past first 20 eps, it will get better

#

Animation and voices alike

#

Story is also great

#

Dunno rn we have the first actual filler saga

#

And it's quite alright

ashen spindle
#

I read it up till like some chapters after they started fighting the other countries

urban lynx
#

i watched the first "arc" of naruto tbf. where they fought these two baddies on this big long bridge or something

misty saffron
#

is that normal in anime? voice actors can be incompetent until some episode?

cursive summit
#

@ashen spindle Would that be Diamond or Spade Kingdom?

#

Diamond Kingdom is quite early

#

Rn is the spicy af Spade Kingdom

ashen spindle
#

idk they dropped into the enemy force after meeting this water thing when they all went into the other country and got tested

#

as rank0 or so

#

dont remember

cursive summit
#

That's heart kingdom pepesweat

#

That's spade kingdom ark

#

So Chapter ~200 or so

ashen spindle
#

ye

#

sounds accurate

cursive summit
#

Didn't interest you?

ashen spindle
#

I wanted it to be good bc I'm in dire need of watching/reading some good magic related stuff but I just couldnt keep going

cursive summit
#

You want good magic stuff?

fair gull
#

@ashen spindle mahouka koukou no rettousei

cursive summit
#

Mahōutsukai no Yome was the first anime series I actually watched

ashen spindle
#

watched it, seaons 2 just started recently

fair gull
#

read the mango

ashen spindle
#

I thought it's a LN adaptation?

cursive summit
#

If you never seen Mahōusukai no Yome, you have to

#

It's quite amazing

fair gull
#

ps theres a manga adaptation of the ln

urban lynx
#

first anime i watched was either Hellsing Ultimate, or Elfenlied. GWvictoriaMeguFace

fair gull
urban lynx
#

chances are Black Lagoon was my first or second are also there. i only remember those three being my first three animes. lol

#

ah, proxer.

ashen spindle
#

ok let me be more clear, I mostly want magic so I watch something cool and fancy and magic is more colorful than slice of life, compared to like wanting to play a game for sicks graphics and ignore shit storylines

#

bonus points if the rest is good

fair gull
#

u mean like overlord?

ashen spindle
#

I mean that's also a good comedy but otherwise yes

urban lynx
#

overlord. it kinda disappointed me with season 2 and 3

ashen spindle
#

yeah they rushed the animation, but they are taking longer on season 4 bc of that feedback

urban lynx
#

i mean. at some point i just read the LN, lol

fair gull
#

how bout magi for magic

ashen spindle
#

well for overlord I did the same, even have the physical books lol

fair gull
#

have never finished magi myself

urban lynx
#

i think i watched 2 episodes of magi?

ashen spindle
#

the labyrint one? thats on my list

fair gull
#

or heck even madoka

#

or fairy fail

ashen spindle
#

done with FT and madoka seemed to lack a bit so I didnt start it

urban lynx
#

another anime i kind of enjoyed was Log Horizon.
even though the second season was slightly weaker than the first, it was still rather good.
here is hoping for season 3. lol

fair gull
#

lh had a nice approach to the whole isekai theme

#

and mc is smort

ashen spindle
#

eh maybe, mostly wrote it off bc it seemed like yet another school version where it's lots about that and not much about the actual magic

ivory geyser
#

Overlord > Log Horizon :P

ashen spindle
#

I should probably make a list of what I watched at some point to make it easier

misty saffron
#

weebs

ashen spindle
#

yea disgusting

urban lynx
#

tbf, log horizon and overlord shouldnt be compared.
only similarities is they both are basically one of these full vr games...

#

and i like both

#

i do not like sao.

ivory geyser
#

Still tho

#

Code Geass > All :P

zenith sonnet

urban lynx
#

i will never consider an anime to be "the best"

ivory geyser
#

That is because you havent seen Code Geass.

urban lynx
#

cause fuck no, there is no way. tastes vary wildly

#

i seen code geass.

ivory geyser
#

Then may the god have mercy of your soul lul

ashen spindle
#

there is no best, just death note

ivory geyser
#

Tbh, Death Note sux after L dies

#

It is absolute top tier before tho

ashen spindle
#

ye bc it ends there

urban lynx
#

trying my best to not be mad and bitching at you

#

also yeah. first half od death note was great. second half was terrible

ivory geyser
#

In that case you get extra points for not falling for my bait!

crisp granite
#

I remember being on someone's death note

ashen spindle
#

second half is just imagination, we all just fell victim to mass hypnosis there

ivory geyser

crisp granite

ashen spindle

in that regard the rushed nvidia launch is nice, couple less people I will need to compete with to get an amd card :p

urban lynx
#

i only know these anime categories:

on the list.
sounds familiar.
i like watching.
i actually remembered i watched this.
i actually admit to watching and liking this.

ashen spindle
#

@reef patrol I stay corrected, before he retired he started one more big drama lul

reef patrol
ashen spindle
#

what a dunce

ashen spindle
cursive summit
#

Is 8K Ultrawide = 16K "eye like" resolution?

ashen spindle
#

idk I just put that word there bc it's clearly not a 16:9 they use lmao

zenith sonnet
#

That distortion though

#

Nobody will unironically use that

reef patrol
#

Its almost as if it's a filming screen or something.

old marlin
#

works well from one point

#

so if they focus it on his head it looks right for him

#

that only works with UE4 though

wheat plume
#

DAFUQ is this nonsense?

#

this system is so flawed you can unlock ANYONES password with it :/

ashen spindle
#

you can also easily get around windows password with the same method since like win xp

wheat plume
#

:')

ashen spindle
#

(same method since then, idk what the video does)

#

and for once I agree with MS calling it not a bug

wheat plume
fair gull
#

i mean

#

win10 ms accounts are not easily removed

#

altho i heard konboot got a new paid version that can remove even those passwords

wheat plume
#

welp

ashen spindle
#

im talking about replacing the osk with cmd

wheat plume
#

there is a way to change the user password without needing to login on Linux, Ive done it before

fair gull
#

doesnt work for msaccounts

ashen spindle
#

oh really

#

huh

#

can you not change your MS account password that way?

fair gull
#

not even recovery disks work with msaccounts

#

msaccount pw can only be changed on the website

#

and the systems needs internet to even know about it

ashen spindle
#

makes sense I guess

#

anyway before that the argument was, if you already have physical access, no point in having the win account pw as the security feature

fair gull
#

depends

#

if u have a tpm

#

and bitlocker encrypted drive

#

its not as easy

#

and takes some time

#

even though bitlocker is compromised (i think)

ashen spindle
#

even then, no point in making it so the attacker needs to take out the drive and does stuff if he has it already

#

and only make it harder for you to get back in

#

if you are aware enough of securing stuff you should be aware on how to do it properly

fair gull
#

ya but even if the attacker has my drive

#

he needs to get in without my pc being lit on fire

ashen spindle
#

sure but again I dont see how the account PW should be the barrier there

fair gull
#

cause bitlocker doesnt unencrypt the drive unless u log into the account

#

so no changing the cmd

ashen spindle
#

I think we argue for the same thing

#

im saying if you have it so the osk can be switched with cmd, you probably run greater risks of losing data already

fair gull
#

oh ya

#

but theres an easy fix

#

store everything on

ashen spindle
#

perfect

fair gull

"regenrative redundancy and negative boot times"

ashen spindle

fair gull

didnt u see the IDE port on ur new amd cpu?

no, infinity cache only allows it for them to add a micro-sized floppy disk to the L1 cache to increase it

wheat plume

They are tablets only in terms of physical form

Actually
Having a computer in that form factor is really handy in many situations
For artists who draw digitally and also note takers and people who use it for meetings

honest jolt
#

you're right, didn't want to talk bad about them. They have a great build quality and are very portable. I would have one, weren't it for me already being in the 'apple cosmos. Would even be cheaper then my current 'university setup' (ipad + laptop)

I can transfer stuff from windows to linux via being able to browser my windows install from linux
But not the other way around

Anyway to make windows be able to browse my linux drive?

reef patrol

Not without tools and drivers.

#

And they are iirc fairly unstable.

#

I've used it a few times to save data from NAS

wheat plume

Hmm
I think I may know why my linux install can browse the windows drive

#

Cause the bootloader is on the linux drive and it has to mount the windows drive for grub to let me choose if I want linux or windows at bootup

cobalt plaza
#

What do you guys think of high refresh rates (120hz or more) on monitors? Do you think it's an underrated or overrated feature?

cobalt plaza
#

Even in non-gaming daily uses such as browsing, content-making or pretty much anything I think 120hz over 60 is a great different. You have more control over the cursor as it is smoother and it's overall more pleasant. I also see a clear difference between 120hz and 240hz.
My top one being a 4k 120hz one (can also be 8k 60hz) and the bottom one 240hz.

chrome estuary
#

I just spent literally the last 9 hours using a 144hz monitor against my 60 and tbh... It's barely noticeable to me

tbh i dont notice much difference between my old near 60hz monitor and my now new 144hz one...
what i notice is the nearly doubled resolution though

not too much of a difference honestly

just a lil bit smoother than the regular 75hz panels I'm used to

old marlin

peepoShrug ig they try to limit damages

neat oriole
#

For me going to 120 from 60 was huge

#

But maybe that’s just because I play a lot of fast paced fps

halcyon moss
#

i think for me it was variable refresh rate, or freesync

#

144 is a big plus though 🙂

neat oriole
#

I’m on 144 now and I can tell the difference between it and 120

halcyon moss
#

is freesync less important when the screen has a really high refresh rate? 🤔

neat oriole
#

It’s good if you have frequent frame drops

zenith sonnet
#

You can't tell 120 and 144 apart if latency is equal
But the 120 Hz display might have had significantly more latency

#

It's not just the refresh rate that counts

misty saffron
#

imagine not using 165hz...

zenith sonnet
#

Latency is what matters, and refresh rate is just another means to bring it down

neat oriole
#

Yes a lot of things factor into total system input latency

#

But I’m just saying I noticed a difference going from 120fps capped to 144 capped

#

It’s not huge

#

I’m getting a 240hz soon too

#

Although it’s a 1440p so im probably not going to be able to have it at the full 240fps

#

But ideally this monitor should last me a couple GPU generations

zenith sonnet
#

240Hz QHD?
First I hear about it

neat oriole
#

Yeah it’s been in the works for a while

#

I backed the eve spectrum monitor in February

#

Should be shipping soon?

zenith sonnet
#

What panel does it use?

neat oriole
#

It’s using an LG panel

#

And LG has their own monitors to launch soon maybe

zenith sonnet
#

Curious

#

Using an LG 27GL850 atm

#

And I definitely wanna see those overdrive curves

neat oriole
#

I just hope the motion blur isn’t bad

zenith sonnet
#

For the 27GL850, an overdrive setting that's good all the way down to 60 Hz, you have 6ms display latency

#

That's good for at most 166Hz

neat oriole
#

I’m cautiously optimistic about it

zenith sonnet
#

If they have a new panel, then I might want it, too
If it's using the same panel, then it'll be running at speeds it can't actually handle

neat oriole
#

I assume it’s a new panel

#

If it was just new software it probably wouldn’t have taken them so long

zenith sonnet
#

Although, there is a big difference between an overdrive curve that needs to be suitable for a fixed 240Hz, and one that needs to be suitable for a 60-240Hz VRR range

#

And honestly, 144Hz VRR > 240Hz fixed any day

neat oriole
#

It’s g sync compatible certified

#

VRR is 48-240 iirc

zenith sonnet

You can disagree all you want, but Wintertime is the regular timezone
And yes, fuck those time changes. I don't understand what's so difficult about getting rid of them

#

Summertime adds one hour to the regular clock, going from UTC+1 to UTC+2
Means sun rises and sets an hour later than it really does
Also means being at work at 6am actually means being there at 5am normal time, and it's fucking horrible

@ashen spindle is 16gb enough these days or 32gb beter?

#

can games use 32gb?

ashen spindle
#

unoptimized skyrim mods that could go up to like 100gb aside, yes

#

I mean, more doesn't hurt in a technical sense as long as it doesnt make the tracing worse or smth

#

but I doubt you'll need that much for a realisitc gaming setup anytime soon

fickle ore

Games dont generally load themselves onto the ram if there is enough space?

Or do they? Lol

ashen spindle

I assume you are looking into 4x4 vs 4x8?

bc 16 for now is definitely enough and if its 2x8 you could just upgrade whenever

Basically looking if a game can load itself onto DRAM provided there is enough of it, and from there the GPU can stream assets

gotta read this

wheat plume
ashen spindle

I mean you could just ramdisk the game lul

fickle ore

Ya another consideration, but the game is around 26GB and might grow once it releases

I cant pick ram/ssd cause no Phison E18 on the market yet and the new silicon motion controller might be even better

isnt the sabre rocket 4+ using E18?

fickle ore

yep but 96cell vs 126cell TLC (samsung)

its not optimal

ashen spindle

ehh idk, once again feel like you're chasing optimal stuff instead of just getting something nice that will just be great to play on

fickle ore
#

Correct

ashen spindle

bc then you might as well wait for zen 5 at minimum

new platform so not optimal stuff on release for zen4, ddr5 early adopter pains etc etc

fickle ore

comes down to 32gb 4000/17cl ripjaws at 275€ vs 16gb patriot vipers 4400/CL19 at 135€

#

mostly

#

I guess I can just get samsung 980 pro or sabrent rocket 4 +

if you know any better kits lmk

I mean idk what the ideal spot for zen3 will be

so hard to say which one performs better

lets assume 4000/14-16

no like I havent paid attention bc idk what to look for and nand prices are expected to still drop in Q4

However, in 3DMark Port Royal at 4K, Nvidia’s RTX appears to have the advantage. With a score of 5,415, the Ampere-based GPU outperforms AMD’s RDNA 2-based RX 6800 XT by more than 20%.

As this is a ray tracing specific benchmark, it’s no surprise that the Nvidia RTX 3080 came out on top. However, it might be that ray tracing is not yet fully optimized in current AMD drivers and that we can expect better performance after the card is released.

BIG DATA! BLOCKCHAIN! DISTRUPTIVE! INNOVATIVE! Invest now pls

fair gull
#

imagine blockchain being replaced with an actual db

reef tundra
#

Then it would become centralised

fair gull
#

doesnt need to be

ashen spindle
#

just have it be two servers that store it, done lol

fair gull
#

ya

ashen spindle
#

it's like raid but in the cloud

#

and we all know the cloud is magic and not other peoples computer

reef tundra
#

The cloud is just someone elses harddrive

ashen spindle
fair gull
#

the cloud is a collection of condensed water molecules

reef tundra
#

and dirt particles

fair gull
#

na

#

ure dirty before it rains

#

its not the rain making u dirty

reef tundra
#

Ya need dirt to form the cloud bubbles.

#

anything that water sticks to and floats

fair gull
#

the earth is a big clump of dirt

reef tundra
#

nucleation sites

#

and gas

#

quick get the gasmask

#

we are getting gassed

#

by oxygen and nitrogen

#

Argon, nobility get outta here

Anyone know where I can get a good Red, key cap set?

how sad must your life be if you are an ex intel engineer and every other week hate on a site bc the new cpu reviewer isn't blasting "INTEL FTW" every day

All 5 of them?

old marlin
#

Intel continues to lead in 10nm technology.

ashen spindle
#

yeah just like they 10nm node is accelerating every quarter

#

think by now we must be above the speed of light will all that acceleration

thick elk
#

Intel is also the only company were the 10nm node is still relevant.

ashen spindle
#

not hard if you are the only company with a 10nm node :p

thick elk
#

samsung and tsmc have one as well, I don't know if it is still relevant but it was a half node from 2016 or so

fair gull
#

wha

ashen spindle
#

ah right forgot samsung just renamed 10 to 8 after some adjustments

fair gull
#

psure node doesnt mean what its supposed to be anymore

ashen spindle
#

ye the number means nothing since uh, 28nm? or whatever it was where they introduced finfet

#

ah 22nm for intel, so 32nm intel was the last time the name was relevant

fair gull
ashen spindle
#

cant fully blame anyone, wouldn't have made sense to say "we go from 32nm to our new 2mm/mm^2 node" or whatever the naming will be in the future

fair gull
#

just dont use it in marketing?

#

would fix all of this

#

i dont see how the technology node is relevant anyway

#

to consumers

ashen spindle
#

because it's not only cpus/gpus that get made in foundries

#

sure for a pc consumer it doesnt really matter, but for FPGA etc.

fair gull
#

so how often do u buy singular nand flash chips

#

or SoCs

#

like this is a pure business thing imo

#

hardware engineering and science kinda stuff

ashen spindle
#

engineers still use it internally bc it's easier to say than a relative density number etc.

fair gull
#

ya

#

but not even prosumers need that info imo

#

it gives no info on any real computational power

#

or efficency

ashen spindle
#

it used to

fair gull
#

ya like 8 years ago

#

or heck even longer

ashen spindle
#

ya till 22nm on intel side

#

2011 apaprently

fair gull
#

rn its just to get the fanbois hyped and into a war

ashen spindle
#

yeah now its just marketing

#

but you need something to refer to it, both in marketing and engineering, and for till then it made sense

#

so gl finding something to replace the naming with that fits all usecases

fair gull
#

benchmark numbers of a wide range maybe?

#

oh wait they already show these

ashen spindle
#

again, it's something that matters for more than just cpu/gpu

fair gull
#

again does a consumer or prosumer need to know?

#

no

#

this is like purely cpu based

#

and gpu based

#

cause they use it to fuel dumb marketing to sell shit where it doesnt really matter anymore

ashen spindle
#

let's say I want to buy a IoT chip thing from global foundries, I do need to know which procress its using to see if I can scale it up/down to what I need

fair gull
#

ure not a consumer or prosumer then tho

ashen spindle
#

a consumer to the foundry yes, not a consumer of a product someone else made through them

urban lynx
#

as a consoomer i wanna know speeds, storage, and power usage (curve) bs.
and other accessory features like over heat shutdown protect stuff n shit.
what do i care about the size of some node? GWvickyKannaPeek

fair gull
#

u damn right know thats not what consumer and prosumer usually refer to

ashen spindle
#

yes in that case you don't need it, but it doesn't hurt and still allows you to have some more insight in what it is

#

would it hurt anyone if they don't tell you? no, but it still wouldnt change the name they use

fair gull
#

ya "insight" that usually goes to "intel still 10nm lol and amd already 7nm"

#

"intel suck"

zenith sonnet
#

I want my games go brrrrrr

fair gull
#

thats pmuch it rn

zenith sonnet
ashen spindle
#

that's more on the marketing pushing it that direction, not really from the name not being that accurate anymore

fair gull
#

id say it is

ashen spindle
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯ feel like if they would withold the info it would either make people confused why its not said now, or lets them find something even stupider to argue about

#

or both even

fair gull
#

psure that people who actually care will be able to easily research it even if they dont provide it in marketing material

ashen spindle
#

at that point we are just fighting against bullshit marketing and as much as I'd like to see that gone, I think we both know that won't happen

fair gull
#

to me it seems just to be "number go smaller must buy cause it goes more brrr cause number is smaller"

ashen spindle
#

well yeah, 7nm so on the 7th day of 7th month they made announcement, vega 7 was written a VII for 7 and Vega 2, announced on the 7th of second month etc.
