Android tablets have been shitshow for a while now as the tablet interfaces have all been removed so it's just useless blown up phone interfaces

wheat plume
#

why do people think the RTX 3000 series will be so cheap?

#

claims between 150 - 400 range

#

wtf?

ashen spindle
#

?

reef patrol
#

Depends on which card 😉

wheat plume
reef patrol
#

The 1660 launched at 219

ashen spindle
#

sounds accurate?

reef patrol
#

It isn't farfetched

wheat plume
#

hm

ashen spindle
#

... did you think they are just not releasing any cards below 500 and not cash in on that market?

wheat plume
#

I guess

reef patrol
#

I mean there's a reason why they're releasing top to bottom, not bottom to top 😄

#

They want a portion of customers to grab a card higher than they would otherwise.

wheat plume
#

hmmmmmmmmmmmm

#

sneaky sneak

ashen spindle
#

higher margins on that and they tape it out first for server cards anyway

#

and a launch of "new" stuff that is just worse than what you can get already is a bit weird

wheat plume
#

is the 3070 cheaper but much better than the 2080?

ashen spindle
#

yes

wheat plume
#

RIP anyone who got the 2080

#

F

ashen spindle
#

???

reef patrol
ashen spindle
#

that is literally happening ever time new hardware comes out

reef patrol
#

To be expected, yes.

wheat plume
#

how far apart were they launched?

#

idk this stuff

#

cant afford them

ashen spindle
#

similar timeline

#

between 1-2 years usually for gpus

halcyon moss
#

i hate that rip 2080 meme, like quintosh said, happenes every time

#

sounds like teenagers

wheat plume
#

I stopped being lazy

#

finally put my old SSD into my PC

halcyon moss
#

2 smoll drives

wheat plume
#

its going to be my steam library

#

GTA V is large AF

halcyon moss
#

the whole 2 games taht fit on it :p

reef patrol
#

Oh honey... 90GB is nothing.

wheat plume
#

LOL

#

largest game I own by FAR

halcyon moss
#

apparantly the new COD is so large.. its becomming an issue

#

well not so new anymore by now

reef patrol
#

Modern Warfare is like 110GB. RDR2 is also above a hundred.

crisp granite
#

bruh, a game is small if it's less than 100gb now

harsh grail
#

@ashen spindle yo i just figured something out, when i try to press anything it all has analog input on tyhe keyboard but my caps lock thats binded with 2 colors it doesnt respond. it just like stays one color and goes into caps with digital keys off/on if that helps u know why it wont give my game any input

#

i cant type with it even with digital keys off

ashen spindle
#

not really, I removed the caps feature for me lul

harsh grail
#

yeah but with digital keys on any setting

#

it wont type regardless

ashen spindle
#

yea idk, I dont have a capslock feature so no clue lol

harsh grail
#

i not talking about capslock bruh

#

it wont give an input in analog mode with digital keys on or off

ashen spindle
#

oh

#

uhhh maybe try a reset in wootility

harsh grail
#

where i do

ashen spindle
#

@reef patrol maybe you know more otherwise

harsh grail
#

reset

ashen spindle
#

settings - troubleshoot

reef patrol
#

I... really don't understand the question.

ashen spindle
#

it sounds like, if capslock was used then you can't type even with digital keys on on another profile? not too sure

harsh grail
#

basically on analog keyboard option my keys dont work when typing with digital keys on or off

ashen spindle
#

so with off it makes sense, because, well, you turned them off lol

harsh grail
#

but with on

reef patrol
#

And you haven't unbound the entire keyboard in your analog profiles? 😄

harsh grail
#

no wait it decided to work

#

1 sec

#

its back to just not working in gta

ashen spindle
#

yay but rip

harsh grail
#

i still think it was just a keyboard update that stopped it working in gta not gta

ashen spindle
#

not possible

reef patrol
#

Do digital keys work on the desktop while in an analog profile?

#

In a browser and so on.

harsh grail
#

i have the "touch" option on my analog keyboard i can do the thing where i slowly press in keys and bar slowly goes up

#

and i done that test and it works

reef patrol
#

That's half of the question answered.

harsh grail
#

ok ok

#

if anyone has gta then that would also be useful

vagrant marsh
crisp granite
#

my 1 tb ssd will not fare well

#

and if developers don't compress games, people just won't play them

#

no

#

developers is some retarded shit

#

not keeping with the times

crimson wigeon
#

Yes but also I had almost the whole filesystem transparently compressed on a trash PC back in the 90s so it's not some rocket science unless you're doing really fancy compression

misty saffron
#

pc developers give zero shits about compression
@prisma crag but muh loading times to brag about :(((

crimson wigeon
#

What if I told you compression can improve loadtimes because there's less data to load from (potentially) slow storage

crisp granite
#

loading times don't matter if a game is 50 times the size of your OS

misty saffron
#

software decompressing is slower than loading from ssd, no?

#

at least 500mb/s decompression doesn't sound as believable as 500mb/s read

crimson wigeon
#

You better believe it, look at how fast zstd decompresses

misty saffron

zenith sonnet
#

I believe AMD did not show their 'biggest Navi' in the teaser

#

They're always doing that thing where they end a presentation/announcement showing 'one more thing'

#

Like they did with the 5950X

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah my bet is that it's the 3080 equivalent

zenith sonnet
#

My guess is the 6900 (no X)

neat oriole
#

I think AMD needs to beat NVIDIA in performance at the same price point by a significant margin to be competitive

ashen spindle
#

them being the option with lower power for once in a decade will already help

zenith sonnet
#

They are definitely gonna win the perf/watt crown this round

#

Ampere is not efficient

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah I'll believe that when I see it...

zenith sonnet
#

If they can compete on price/perf as well, they got a huge market already

#

5700 was the most efficient card before the 3000 series launch

#

I doubt there will be a 1400$ AMD card

#

I don't care about price, really
Only price/perf and perf, tbh

ashen spindle
#

which is nice, I am looking for a 3080 with less than the tdp of a 3080 lol

#

sure, do the same on nvidia side to get a decent cooler

#

its a wash

#

so hope they again have a 6900xt and a 6900 so you can save a little bit to balance taht ¯_(ツ)_/¯

zenith sonnet
#

I'm gonna need a water block too

ashen spindle
#

because point me to a non devkit card that does the performance I'd need

#

unless you can find me the g sync option on that card

#

doesnt outperform my 1080

#

I mean, even with a 1080ti I'd be looking to upgrade this generation

ashen spindle
#

Most importantly, Herkelman stressed that AMD didn’t state which Radeon RX 6000 graphics card ran these benchmarks.
👀

crimson wigeon
#

Turns out it was actually the weakest card in that lineup!!!!

ashen spindle
#

praying they remember to not do a bullshit "jebaited" again bc if this is true it will be nice, if it's a PR blunder AGAIN then idk maybe I'll eat a amd marketing person or something

zenith sonnet
#

They said big Navi, so it has to be at least some form of Navi21 SKU

urban lynx
#

big navi...
slowly starts to sound like some mafia nickname of a big fat guy that is a very good driver or something

#

like, a fat ass smuggler guy in the family

ashen spindle
#

rooCult papa navi offers you a deal you cant refuse

cursive summit
#

Aight lads

#

The PC got worse sadly

#

Before, PC after restarting due to BIOS changes would not Post

#

Would require a hard reset by turning off electrical power

#

Now, any sort of system restart (Windows updates or even a regular restart) has a good chance of failing to post

#

Thanks ASUS..

#

Do I really need a new mobo? thonk

#

Just did a restart again cause the mouse wouldn't function

#

PC isn't posting

ashen spindle
#

have you checked if a bios reset helps or if the cmos battery is still good?

cursive summit
#

I don't quite know much about CMOS stuff

#

How do I check the battery?

#

Yeah I don't own one GWcmeisterPeepoE

ashen spindle
#

well, reset bios first

cursive summit
#

Going default would do this

#

Fml Discord says a picture is "too big"

wheat plume
#

Is that the image I sent or so we have the same bios?

ashen spindle
#

so try if that fixes it

cursive summit
#

Ain't this standard ASUS bios

wheat plume
#

Yeh
It is

#

Its not the image I sent xd

cursive summit
#

Maybe I can finally get my fucking AMD virtualization done

#

VMs are slow as shit

wheat plume
#

they are ;-;

#

Im surprised that a VM is a thing that can happen though

#

an entire PC inside another one

cursive summit
#

VMs are <3

#

I can fall in love with Linux without ever having one natively

wheat plume
#

didnt use my laptop this entire week
I now have 600mb of updates to install

cursive summit
#

Tho I feel like going for Linux Mint was a mistake

#

Feeling like Ubuntu is simply better

#

Far more supported

ashen spindle
#

ye so far ubuntu just works for all I need

wheat plume
#

if its supported for Ubuntu

#

its supported for Mint too

#

they are almost the same apart from the desktop

#

run the same package manager and whatnot

#

except mint doesnt like snap packages

#

cause not many people do like them

ashen spindle
#

yeah but then you need to check which version of ubuntu mint uses etc. like if ubunut 20 doesnt work but ubuntu 18 does etc.

wheat plume
#

ahh true

ashen spindle
#

so might as well just stick with ubuntu directly

wheat plume
#

yehh

#

im happy with ArcoLinux

#

:')

wheat plume
#

Oh :')

ashen spindle
#

@fallow bison pls confirm

wheat plume
#

I dont like how VS Code has rich presense on discord

#

tells everyone what file you are editing

ashen spindle
#

then disable it

wheat plume
#

it doesnt work in Linux I think

#

cause it barely works when I play a game or whatever

crimson wigeon
#

I'm pretty sure that feature is an extension that weird people use

wheat plume
#

:')

reef tundra
#

THen use neovim in linux instead

#

also javascript is a fake and a fraud

#

I use arch btw

mental basin
#

amd's talks with

#

xilinx truly is interesting

#

zen3 was really nice for only two reasons in the gaming world;

  1. It showed that they clearly know memory latency sacrifice in zen2 was just the name of the game, having one CCX per 8 cores now is good indicator that this is clearly still on their mind
  2. Lisa su managed to pull off an incredibly strong presentation on a "ok" launch product, made it seem a lot bigger than it was.
#

I think zen4 without speculating too much will be the real generational leap

ashen spindle
#

bigger than it was??

#

that makes it sound like you think zen3 was not a big leap

mental basin
#

Convince me, these are just my own personal thoughts after reflecting

#

I think it was a GOOD jump

#

the IPC performance increase is not "just" 19%

#

it's 19% from last gen that already did a huge jump from the previous gen there again

#

so factoring in "scaling" that's enormous

#

as an example

ashen spindle
#

ok now I dont follow, do you think it's a good product or not

#

in just over a year, AMD’s IPC gains beat out Intel’s 2015-2020 IPC advances.

#

on the same process node as the previous product

mental basin
#

I think they 100% could of done way more for zen 3 but tried to hold back as much as possible while still giving very good margins

#

for the zen 4 generational leap

ashen spindle
#

you also need to keep in mind the biggest part of zen2 was the rework of the Tage branch predictor

#

and that was originally planned for zen3

#

and even without it they still got that much of an ipc uplift

mental basin
#

Yes - I agree, but it just wasn't the trigger pull for me yet. Especially when I can factor in price performance - however, once I see reviewer benchmarks there is a slight possibility in that changing

#

as an example, I'm very interested in 5950x for a very strong combined usage of desktop use(content creation) and gaming, by disabling 8 of the cores and only using 1 ccx yet getting the very strong single and multi-threaded performance*

#

Though one factor that I never really care about which I should is in regards to energy efficiency

#

that alone should make price differences of $50-100 easily worth it

zenith sonnet
#

Gotta keep in mind that AMD achieved those 19% without touching the IO-die at all, and using the very same process

pale sigil
#

Noice, friend is going to drive to scan for ryzen

#

meaning ic an go

ashen spindle
#

wat

wheat plume
#

I learned two new things about my pc today

#

wat

#
  1. since I have a single fan GPU, I do NOT need to remove the GPU from the motherboard in order to get access to the sata pins if I wanna add more drives to my PC
  2. the motherboard has a microphone jack, so now I have an extra free USB 3.1 port and also the mic is plugged in directly at the back of the computer so the cable is out of the way
ashen spindle
#

I'm very confused how the gpu fan relates to sata pins

wheat plume
#

actually it wouildnt matter on this motherboard cause its really large so the sata pins are at the very corner quite a bit away from the GPU

true quest
#

wat

wheat plume
#

but on my friends motheroard they are much closer together and he had to use the angled saata cable to get access

#

cause his pins were under the GPU

#

under the area covered by the edge of the GPU anyway

fickle ore
#

really really doubt zen 4 will be bigger increase than zen 3

wheat plume
#

I love my pc case <3
USB 3 ports on the top
Easy af to remove side panels with captive thumb screws

ashen spindle
#

I think it will be, just not in every area

#

or, similar at least in some areas

wheat plume
#

Can remove and reinstall the side panels in like 10 seconds

fickle ore
#

What makes you think so?

ashen spindle
#

ddr5

#

5nm

fickle ore
#

apparently hardware capped at 22CL so latency won't go down until after a few years when we at 6400 or higher

#

I doubt ddr5 will make a big difference

ashen spindle
#

latency yes, bandwith goes up

#

hence, some areas not all

#

some care about bandwidth

fickle ore
#

yeah

ashen spindle
#

servers might get pcie5 too

fickle ore
#

I don't know if they can keep up 20% increase year over year, it's pretty unheard of, but we will see

ashen spindle
#

well this one was 19% basically just from design

#

that includes without Tage branchprediction bc that got pulled into zen 2 already

#

and without node shrink

fickle ore
#

ya, I'm guessing zen 4 or whatever comes after zen 3 (maybe refresh) is just node shrink and not such big architectural improvement as zen 3 was

ashen spindle
#

if its just node shrink you wouldnt need a new socket

fickle ore
#

now we got 8 core 1 ccx, whats next? cant improve on that really unless they can do 16 core CCX

#

well you need for ddr5 or pcie 5.0

ashen spindle
#

different chipset yes, socket not necessarily

#

pcie5 would be fine, we saw 3->4 work

#

memory I have no idea

#

so maybe

#

but I'd doubt it

fickle ore
#

iirc memory might require, pcie 4.0 didn't. we don't know yeah. maybe AMD will start tick-tock now too

ashen spindle
#

oh

#

one thing that might make sense

#

node shrink + different IO die

pale sigil
#

Anyone here run a server

ashen spindle
#

barely but yes

#

why?

fickle ore
#

With the 5800x prices is so annoying, kinda want to wait until DDR5.. ffs 470€ for a dying socket

wheat plume
#

Should I add some lights into my PC case?
There is exactly 0 in it

Maybe I shouldn't cause I can't see into it anyway when it's on my desk
Cause the clear panel is against the wall

fickle ore
#

Don't, there's no point

nova carbon
#

MORE RGB

ashen spindle
#

sure it's a "dying" socket, so was every single intel socket the lasy years lul

nova carbon
#

ask nano, least biased person regarding rgb on the discord

ashen spindle
#

idk, you dont build a pc bc of what you can do in the future with it usually

fickle ore
#

yeah true lol, just so close to DDR5 blobhyperthinkfast

#

yeh ;<

ashen spindle
#

sure, but might as well stick on ddr4 and skip first gen ddr5 to avoid early adopter pains

nova carbon
#

yeah it usually takes a few years for the new dram to stabilize speed wise

fickle ore
#

yup..

#

But

#

Not using renoir IF :<

nova carbon
#

and price wise

wheat plume
#

I don't even want rgb
Just some light source to admire the hardware

nova carbon
#

use a candle

wheat plume
#

Lel

ashen spindle
#

use your phone

wheat plume
#

I need to rearrange my room sometime
So my desk can be positioned in a way to have the glass side of the case facing me

ashen spindle
#

just make a sketchy mod to a psu cable, stick phone in case, boom light

wheat plume
#

Cause rn it's against the wall and I can't see inside the PC on the other side

fickle ore
#

fuck flashing lights, all they do is give you a headache, look stupid and cost cents in electricity

ashen spindle
#

something else to consider, if we dont get a new IO die with zen4, we might get a monolithic design for low core count stuff again

#

which for gaming and such is probably still the best approach

nova carbon
#

usually the right answer is do you need it/is your comp not cutting it right now? if so its time to upgrade

fickle ore
#

i7 2600k DDR3

ashen spindle
#

lul

fickle ore
#

plays most games at 200+fps toh

ashen spindle
#

yeah? try crysis in cpu only mode :^)

fickle ore
#

what is that game? is it multiplayer? 😛

nova carbon
#

i mean if you dont think your comp performance is an issue then sure maybe wait, 1 yr amd cpu cycles

#

going from ddr3 all the way to ddr5!

wheat plume
#

What Intel CPUs use 7nm currently?

#

And what's the cheapest one?

#

O.o

#

Intel aren't using 7nm??!!

pale sigil
#

Nope

wheat plume
#

Rip
My Ryzen 5 is!! GG amd

pale sigil
#

Ye but your ryzen is poop

wheat plume
#

Nuuuu

#

Its good

#

Comes with a really thicc cooler with thermal paste applied also

#

They call it the wraith stealth but it's not totally silent

#

My fans already quite loud

#

Although I sit literally right against the PC

#

Its so close I just lean a bit and my head rests against it

#

...

#

O

misty pier
#

i can't hear anything at all

#

it's dead silent from my pc

pliant shard
#

it appears you might be able to get a cheapo motherboard for 5000 series

#

and not suffer in any way performance wise

#

so the extra $50-$100 whatever each cpu tier is than the previous can be saved with a 520

#

sure

#

assrock

#

there are x570's i wouldn't get

#

probably would take the msi or asus

#

not go the cheapest fuckin a520 you can

#

yeah go figure

#

and south america

#

aren't those b450's in the $180 range

#

TUF Gaming B450M-Pro II

#

hmm

#

not out yet?

#

the pro (I) is $100

#

hmm

#

apparently ryzen 5000 isn't going to get much from overclocking

#

vrm requirements won't be so bad

#

most lie about the quality of it anyway

#

man

#

i'd love a 5900X

#

bit expensive and especially since i have no reason to upgrade

#

i'd like to pretend i held onto my 8700k for more than a few years

#

nothing wrong with it, it's always served me well, but the constant hype training wears down on you

#

even as people get burned from it

#

you know what feels bad

#

a god tier 2x8 kit costs less than what i initially bought my ram for

#

same with a good 2x16 kit

#

but that stuff just didn't exist 2 years ago

#

2x8gb 3000mt crucial ballistix meme ram was $190

#

yeah ddr5

#

intel claiming support for it in 11th gen i think

#

probably don't produce it anymore

#

because it's such an old spec

#

i think you can get 3600 14-14-14-34

#

eh

#

3600 16-19-19-39 is really bad

#

in terms of numbers

#

not money

#

money speaks a different story

#

but if you have an itx and wanna go ham

#

and are on intel not amd

#

you get the trident

#

and go up to like 4333mt

#

or something crazy like that

#

i don't think there's any real info on what ryzen 5000 has for fclk

#

thought gskill was it

#

4800mhz cl19

#

cream of the crop

#

doubtful ryzen 5000 can get to 2400mhz fclk

#

they're at around 1900 now?

#

a few hundred mhz would do a lot of work

#

at the same time they're trying to minimize how important ram is

#

with all that cache

#

there's some random brand i never heard of

#

that's selling decently high speed ram

#

4400mt/s 🙁

#

supply issues

#

the demand will surely burn out eventually

#

once everyone gets their hands on big navi, 5000, 11th gen, 3000

#

it would take an even bigger hypetrain to get them to move on

#

doesn't feel that crazy

#

rtx titan

mental basin
#

memory is so underrated 🤷‍♂️

#

biggest bottleneck in modern systems and it's been true for years and years

#

yet for any semi-enthusiast gamer or gamer with comp aspirations, we keep telling them 3200 17-19-19-39 @ 1.4v xmp'd ram is okay

#

because "any 3200 stick is fine"

#

but you can get so much better for possibly cheaper or equal cost, ram gives you a lot of choices lol

pliant shard
#

i think we keep telling them because

#

we don't realize how much ddr4 has improved

#

you get samsung b-die for the price of complete garbage 2 years ago

#

and for even less than b-die you get very good ryzen kits and very good intel kits that require no tuning

#

just plug and play, and remember to respect the QVL and memory topology if you need to

mental basin
#

Yeah, I don't disagree in 2010 as to why it was "negligible" to fork out more money for ram

#

when cpu and gpu is majority of the benefit

#

but lately this needs to be taken a new look at lol

#

I hope you're figuratively speaking ;P

reef patrol
#

Durrrrrr

#

Anti consumerism strikes again. lul

ashen spindle
#

and the xbox one is not soldered? thonk

reef patrol
#

You tell me. lul

ashen spindle
#

I mean, I dont think you'll see either of them offer a console OS download, which you would need if you could replace the main drive right?

reef patrol
#

The OS is generally not on drive.

#

Hasn't been since the Xbox OG.

ashen spindle
#

oh ok

#

I mean if it's not then you should just be able to use an expansion ssd on the ps5 as the new maindrive then

#

it is a legitimate concern but till release things like this just smell of coming from xbox-fans etc.

reef patrol
#

Here's hoping. Would suck to have either console basically be hot metal scrap if the main SSD gives out in 5 years.

crimson wigeon
#

That's perfect! Just in time for the "Pro" version to become available so you upgrade!

tender sparrow
#

The upside of consoles is they have resale value

#

And if you sell before the cycle is up, even just a month or so before, you'll easily make back 70% of the cost

reef patrol
#

The upside of consoles is they have resale value
@tender sparrow Not if they're dead 😄

tender sparrow
#

You can still sell for parts

#

Manufacturers will refurbish them

reef patrol
#

Uhh...

#

Manufacturers sure as shit won't. Third party resellers might bother doing mass BGA re-soldering if they can source new SSDs.

#

But you'd still have a pricy used product due to the cost of a new SSD.

tender sparrow
#

We'll see about the SSD solution

#

Sony keeps bragging about how cheap it is

#

Personally I don't buy it after the trainwreck that was the Vita

reef patrol
#

With the exception of the Switch, I only buy consoles that are officially off the shelves.

tender sparrow
#

The Switch is the only one that can provide what a PC can't

#

Consoles do have the advantage of the used games market though

#

PC players are stuck with digital price

reef patrol
#

Constant sales help there though.

urban lynx
#

tbf though, sony does seem to follow the pc direction with their download only variant...

#

also it wasnt that long ago u still had discs for your games...
though by now you do end up registering your games here and there to an account, so the discs get kind of useless

#

so not the biggest suprise disc are slowly seen as obsolete to pc people

tender sparrow
#

I've bought and resold console games at breaking even. Occasionally even a profit.

urban lynx
#

then again. pc doesnt need a downward compatibility, or other stuff to keep playing your games

tender sparrow
#

Used market will be the only reason I consider a PS5

#

I absolutely do not want to give Sony a single cent

urban lynx
#

i mean they probably are mansen, but i dare say not every user or consumer knows how to circumvent the drm stuff on a disc when needed, lol

reef patrol
#

I missed the "PC" part 😄

urban lynx
#

lol

reef patrol
#

Not much ownership there these days for sure. On consoles though.

urban lynx
#

yeah

#

but in return, usually you lose access to the game on a console without disc

reef patrol
#

Yeah that's true.

tender sparrow
#

Which is completely fair

#

Because it's yours

reef patrol
#

But uh... I don't think I have ever wanted to play one of my games at a friends' place and not bring thedisc 😄

As long as you don't buy at launch you'll only pay a little bit to have a collection

urban lynx
#

on a pc it is far easier just loading a file to keep playing the game / or better, just make a loadable iso copy. lol

tender sparrow
#

Especially if you sell off unwanted games over time

#

I can agree with that but you can argue consoles just have the convenience of not worrying about specs or network or anything

#

Which is completely untrue considering everything has a 69 GB file size and day one patch nowadays

urban lynx
#

was about to say

tender sparrow
#

And most console games are terribly optimized

reef patrol
#

on a pc it is far easier just loading a file to keep playing the game / or better, just make a loadable iso copy. lol
@urban lynx I still have backups of every single disc based game I have ever bought for PC. With patches and cracks included.

#

Just in case something happens to the disc, or websites with the patches and such shut down some day.

tender sparrow
#

Again the main draw of a console is cost efficiency

urban lynx
tender sparrow
#

When the cycle is over you can sell off everything and make a cast majority back

#

As long as you played smart

urban lynx
#

uh, how much a ps5 costs?

tender sparrow
#

$500

#

PS4 was $400

#

Just wait for the price to hit $300

reef patrol
#

Consoles make a ton of sense for parents - Especially in these Fortnite days xD

tender sparrow
#

Snag a few games before the cycle is up during the remaining three or so years

#

Sell it off a month before the next launch

urban lynx
#

... tbf, with that money you can build a decent pc alreadx

tender sparrow
#

You'll make the vast majority of your money back

#

Yeah I have a half decent PC

ashen spindle
#

sadly with that money you still can't get the console exclusives on pc

tender sparrow
#

FF7R

ashen spindle
#

which is the reason why I will get a ps5 at some point

tender sparrow
#

At least FF16 is confirmed coming to PC

#

Just a year after PS5

urban lynx
#

fun fact. my stepdad is annoyed cause his two ps5 orders were cancelled on thursday

ashen spindle
#

rip

tender sparrow
#

Two

ashen spindle
#

but also, why two?

tender sparrow
#

Just in case

#

Didn't help him

urban lynx
#

cause he is one of these, play on one, sell second

ashen spindle
tender sparrow
#

Ah, a fellow capitalist

urban lynx
#

his (and mine) coworker bought 3.

#

sorry, preordered 3

#

(and didnt get cancelled, yet)

tender sparrow
#

Why is this even allowed

urban lynx
#

i'm the wrong one to ask

tender sparrow
#

I worked at Amazon when the Xbox One X launched

#

Absolute crickets

#

Some geniuses bought like 10 of them though

#

The Xbox One X was obviously not the smashing success they hoped

#

Fortunately for them Amazon has a very generous return policy

#

All that’s clear is whoever is naming it

#

Needs to be fired

#

The names are so awful

shadow minnow
#

What names?
Xbox one x sounds imo quite good

#

They wanted to call it other name and it would have been much worse

#

Although, the series - names are quite bad tbf

@shadow minnow The sudden increase in Xbox One X sales when the Series X opened up for sales might disagree 😄

#

Search engines literally can't tell them apart half the time.

shadow minnow
#

Series x name is pretty confusing

#

But before it was ok

#

Also, rise of sales may have been caused by onex getting cheaper

#

Can you set a drive to automount into a folder in your home directory or does it have to be a folder in the root directory?

#

cause steam doesnt want to write or read to /games folder I made for it despite being able to set it as a library in steam and steam being able to create a folder in there on its own

crimson wigeon
#

You can put mounts wherever you want in the filesystem

wheat plume
#

I got an error when I tried to install a game to the new drive, telling it cant write to the folder

#

even though when I added that folder as a library it was able to make a folder in it

crimson wigeon
#

Permissions can be weird like that

wheat plume
#

I ran sudo chown username:username /games

#

and steam was able to create a folder

#

but it cant use it when trying to install a game

crimson wigeon
#

Make it recursive -R

wheat plume
#

CAPITAL R

#

dang it -.-

#

wait, is username:username the right command?

crimson wigeon
#

Depends on if there actually is a group with the same name as your username

wheat plume
#

I think there is

#

if ran recursively, will it also apply to files and whatnot that arent there yet and get added later?

#

or just stuff thats there when the command is run

crimson wigeon
#

Whatevs is there at the time

wheat plume
#

oh fuck

#

thats why it cant install a game

crimson wigeon
#

Softwares are usually smart enough to write files with the correct permissions to begin with

It feels bad ;-; having to do something you can do in a language you do know but in a language you dont know

What

#

The hell am I reading

#

I'm not sure if it's customary in English speaking countries to word their tests so confusingly

But this is hard to understand

ashen spindle
#

no its just confusing because we dont know the rest of the stuff that belongs

#

to it

#

like what language, what info is in the tables etc.

crimson wigeon
#

That looks like a python thing

#

... not that it's very useful to know as we don't have the dataset and such

cursive summit
#

I want to see that table

#

All of those 17800 rows visualized lul

ashen spindle
#

I don't because it's literally just taking the average if condition x applies

wheat plume
#

this is python

#

we have to use pandas and numpy

tawny prism
#

E-ATX is a trash fire. That is all.

wheat plume
#

how I get the total amount of colums from this? ;-;

fair gull
#

easy dont use python

ashen spindle
#

ok I have no clue about python

#

but it gives you an error right

#

so look up what that error means

wheat plume
#

I solved it

#

had to use .shape

#

wait, that gives the rows too, I dont want that

#

oh, add [1] to it....

#

nice!

#
#Number of columns
df = pd.read_csv(csvLocation)
numCols = df.shape
print(numCols[1])
ashen spindle
#

that seems wrong to get a shpae to get columns

#

but then again I dont python

wheat plume
#

it was complaining that pandas doesnt gave .count()

#

but it does...its in the documentation -.-

fair gull
#

well thats why i dont do python

wheat plume
#

I dont like it ;-;

fair gull
#

i woudl have joinked it

crimson wigeon
#

Probably might be easier to experiment directly in a python REPL near you so you can abuse tab completions

wheat plume
#

we got to use google colab for this module

crimson wigeon
#

Of course some people think such modernities make it too easy and you gotta find out the hard way

wheat plume
#

we had to use notepad++ for Java in first year

#

so that way we had to learn the syntax properly and not rely on an IDE

#

and use JCreator to run it

fair gull
wheat plume
#

hhmmm

fair gull
wheat plume
#

thats a very tony way to solve this

fair gull
#

jank ass csv driver

#

why use some module when u can diy

wheat plume
#

that only applies if you know Python

#

this is my first time using it

#

apart from very basic shit in first year for 4 weeks

#

just got as far as string concat in that

fair gull
#

i just use stackoverflow

wheat plume
#

idk if thats the right number...

#

oh wait, it is! he shows it in the next question

fair gull
#

thats repl output

#

it basically shows the result of the last line

#

last executed line*

wheat plume
#

how do I get all the values of 1 in the 9th column and find the average of them?

#

in python

ashen spindle
#

you look up how you get data from a field

#

add them

#

divide by ammount of numbers you added

wheat plume
#

the problem is

the clear weather is shown by a value of 1 in the 9th column but the bikes hired for that row is in the 16th column

#

I have a csv file with 16 columns and a few thousand rows

I need to find the average number of bikes hired during clear weather

clear weather is shown by the value 1 in the 9th column and the bikes hired is on the 16th column

ashen spindle
#

ok so you figure out how to get the values you need by how to do conditional statements and then add the data where it fits

reef tundra
#

Why does that csv file not contain a header ontop so other people(and future you) can understand what the data is formatted like

fair gull
#

this sounds like an array filter job

wheat plume
#

did it

#

wooooo

#
df = pd.read_csv(csvLocation,index_col=0,header=None)
averageClear = (df[df[8]==1][15].mean())
fair gull
#

see so u know how filters work

wheat plume
#

barely, I read the docs... and theysuggested a thing like this but not quite this so I assumed I can do another one inside of it

#

im still now sure how this works

#

but it works

fair gull
#

the magic of pythong

wheat plume
#

UwU

reef tundra
#

Also interresting how they numbered every entry. like the \n with the text editor dont do this

wheat plume
#

hm?

fair gull
#

the what in the where

wheat plume
#

^^

#

\n works in python if thats what you are asking

reef tundra
#

The csv file in the chat

#

every line has been numbered in the csv table itself

fair gull
#

thats called indexing

reef tundra
#

Useless datapoint

fair gull
#

no?

reef tundra
#

every entry has been ended with \n. so the parser can know on which line it reads

fair gull
#

bruh do u even know how csvs work

#

the index isnt for the parser lol

#

the index is for writing sane code

#

and abusing csv as a database

reef tundra
#

And good parsers dont even need to know which line it is as streams the csv data

fair gull
#

im fairly sure the rfc for csv formatting requires a \n

reef tundra
#

Yes? to seperate the lines?

fair gull
#

yes the indexes arent for the freakin parser

reef tundra
#

so the parser knows where the data ends of said entry

fair gull
#

they are INDEXES

reef tundra
#

With the same linenumber

fair gull
#

because this is dummy data for teaching

#

in reallife they could be whatever

#

this isnt some professional work stuff

#

its literally homework

#

in a professional situation the problem also wouldnt be the index numbers... but that its a database in csv

crimson wigeon

wheat plume
#

wait nvm, I use column 16

ashen spindle
#

look it's fine to ask for help and I assume nobody has an issue with helping you out on this

#

but at least spend like a minute thinking about it yourself

wheat plume
#

I solved it

ashen spindle
#

and dont just post the question the second you've read it

wheat plume
#

I just want a second opinion on what "rental users" refers to in this context

#

is it the number of rentals that day? (column 16)
or is it the count of registered and casual users added into one value?

wheat plume
#

I have a b550M motherboard, will the upcoming ryzen zen 3 CPUs work in it?

ashen spindle

wheat plume
#

oo neat

cursive summit
#

@wheat plume I told you to buy a better card

#

And a 100$ CPU

#

You could simply ditch it for cheap

#

And get a 5000 series one

wheat plume
#

I dont need any better, it runs Minecraft at 600FPS xd
and Distance at 200FPS

and I need to test GTAV still cause I cant get steam to realise I have it already downloaded in the new lobrary folder I made

I may get BF4 now thats its on steam though! cause I loved that game when I had it on Xbox

wheat plume
#

also a laptop with an RTX 2060 for $1000 seems really good

ashen spindle
#

extra budget cpu, only hd, idk seems ok-ish

wheat plume
#

hmmm

ashen spindle
#

as pc price it would somewhat like this : 250 for gpu, 50 for ssd, 30 for the ram 200 for cpu(?) lets say 150 for screen

#

so 800 ish you get all that

#

and thats retail pricing without OEM cost saving

high-end gpu's in laptops are for me too much powerdraw to be usefull.

#

im not sure if this is applicable here, i just cant for the life of me find a solution to this

in linux (debian v10.6), just made a chroot for my friend and ive made a user account limited to it.
ive installed screen, but its behaving very weirdly. when im in the chroot, whether im root or a normal user, trying to create a new screen session just immediately terminates with the [screen is terminating] message. ive tried looking the problem up but none of the solutions seem to be working.
if its at all relevant, i used debootstrap stable /chrootdir to install debian

fair gull
#

have u tried turning ur toaster by 14.67° to the right and then eating 2 slices of toast half way through the toasting cycle. after that you need to fix the feng shui in ur room and also make sure ur ssd is spinning with at least 5400rpm. then you make sure all ur files start with the letters kz and after all of this it should work

#

if it doesnt just rub some essential oils on the case

chroot is an command that allows you to act like you are some other user with potentially differend groups that it subscribes to.
CHange ROOT.

rocky stream
#

i have not tried that

crimson wigeon
#

Did you bind mount /dev into the chroot

reef tundra
#

In normal operation chroot is not needed or you have incorrect permissions.

fair gull
#

@reef tundra chroot literally is just a shell with a special root directory not smth to act as another user

#

chroot is to keep users from exploring outside their allowed bounds

rocky stream
#

Did you bind mount /dev into the chroot
@crimson wigeon yes

fair gull
#

since they cant break out of it

rocky stream
#

everyone ive seen who has a similar problem on like stackexchange or something its with permissions, but even as root it doesnt work

#

the chroot behaves normally, its just specifically screen that is wack

fair gull
#

tbh while i have chroot setup

reef tundra
#

I have used chroot to take over another install as root of the currently running install.

fair gull
#

my users dont use screen

reef tundra
#

Tmux is preferred over gnu screens

rocky stream
#

ive never used tmux

#

ill look into it

fair gull
#

thats smth rather subjective

#

imo

#

up to the user what theyre comfortable with

crimson wigeon
#

mount devpts in /dev/pts

reef tundra
#

isnt pts an virtual terminal?

crimson wigeon
#

Yes and how do you think programs like screen do it

reef tundra
#

They bind to the tty

rocky stream
#

mount devpts in /dev/pts
@crimson wigeon im pretty sure ive done that but

#

ill try again

fair gull
#

i thought screen and tmux work based on pseudoterminals

reef tundra
#

VIM's tabs and splits is more than enough for me
so havent played much with tmux or screens

rocky stream
#

um, i tried tmux and it just returns "1;01;0c" into the prompt

fair gull
#

sometimes u just want ur shakes and fidget bot on a remote without it stopping when u dc

reef tundra
#

try "stty sane"

fair gull
#

idk what that would fix

#

the color is chosen by the tool

#

green means info/success

#

yellow is warning

crimson wigeon
#

I just tried and doing the devpts mount while chrooted did magic fixes

fair gull
#

and red error

reef tundra
#

it resets the tty to its default values. it can have some setting fucked by some program

fair gull
#

oh for kerp na ngh is a linux magician

#

he knows some stuff

crimson wigeon
#

lolno I just know googling

rocky stream
#

hmm

reef tundra
#

use the man

rocky stream
#

so apparently the chroot isnt a tty

#

im doing sudo chroot /chrootdir

fair gull
#

its not its a shell

#

like bash

#

and fish

#

and whatever shit exists

reef tundra
#

the standard shell is bash

#

chsh can change this

fair gull
#

depends on the distro i guess

reef tundra
#

$SHELL should contain what the shell is

#

Currently using zsh

rocky stream
#

ok i guess i got something wrong then, when i ssh into the chroot it also says not a tty, but if i ssh into an un-jailed user, it says it is a tty

fair gull
#

have u tried what ngh said yet

#

they said their suggestion did the trick for them

rocky stream
#

god damn

#

just tried it

#

it works

#

😭

#

thank u guys

#

thank u ngh

reef tundra
#

To know wether it is an tty or pts. the command tty will tell you

#

And dont forget that at default most distros give like 6 tty's to work with changeable(with most) with control+alt+[F1 to F6]

#

you are aware they are using air freight for the cards?

#

for basically all of 30 series atm

#

sure they will come on boat once they have enough supply that it's worth putting it on a boat

#

can't put on boat what doesn't exist yet

solar hinge
ashen spindle
#

idk I can still make out the pc parts so I think thats clean enough

#

I mean there just isn't enough stock so it makes no sense to put an order of like 50? cards or whatever on a boat

#

Im not even sure I remember what you are referring to

#

? he talks about air freight there

#

probably

#

it wouldnt make sense to have a shortage because you want to save 5$ shipping on a 800/1600$ product

#

another AiB would just do air freight and get literally 100% of your customers

reef patrol
#

Ah yes - Air freight.

#

Because there's an entire fleet of airplanes flying atm 😄

ashen spindle
#

?

#

I imagine one plane can carry the entire stock nvidia has atm lmao

#

and just imagine if there is an issue like with the 2080ti, if the MLCC cap would be 100% required for example, you would have thousands of cards on boat, need to then ship them back to fix it? thats not a risk anyone would ever take

wheat plume

I regret not getting a modular power supply, all the extra cables and wires are stuffed inside the HDD bay beside the PSU

#

so if I suddenly need to have more than 5 drives I cant

ashen spindle

wait you got a non modular one

#

why

crisp granite
#

saves 15-20 dollars

#

I got a semi modular

wheat plume
#

yeah, basically, all the cables and things are stuffed in the PSU shroud and HDD bay

#

semi modular?

crisp granite
#

cuz I like pain, but not a lot of pain

ashen spindle
#

yes I know what it is, my question was why you got one

wheat plume
#

cause not sure, It wont affect me anyway cause I wont need to use the hdd bay

#

there is another 3 sata ports and 2 free spaces to dock 2.5 inche drives

#

one behind the motherboard panel where one is already being used and the other using an angled sata cable under the GPU

crisp granite

very nice

#

are you planning an ITX build?

wheat plume

its massive

not very wide but massive

ashen spindle

small form factor doesnt really have any definied sizes

wheat plume

blobhyperthinkfast wat

crisp granite
#

other than a community consensus of under 20L

wheat plume
#

I see....

ashen spindle

the only defined sizes are for motherboard sizes, but that also has areas in E-ATX where its just a mess of sizes

crisp granite

ah E-ATX

#

the stupidest thing ever

wheat plume

whats that?

ashen spindle

big boards

crisp granite

a motherboard "form factor"

wheat plume

oh? my motherboars is very large....would mine be that?

oh nvm

this fit into the case no issues

crisp granite

probably not

my board is micro atx

ashen spindle

Lana wtf are you talkin about, you dont have a fullsize board

#

ye

wheat plume

I dont? but its largeer than my friends one cause he thought his was a large board

ashen spindle

what do you think the part "micro" stands for

wheat plume

oo

when they say "exclusive codecs" for audio, I assume they mean the codecs only work on windows?

or maybe they are baked into the board somehow?

yeah

at least 4 grams

ashen spindle

if it would be a windows thing why would the board advertise it?....

wheat plume
#

the audio does sound good though, just a little bit less solid sounding

#

like its too quite and then I press volume up once and its too loud, I need to tune it better later

ashen spindle
#

I can guarantee you, you don't have audio equipment where you need to worry about codecs

wheat plume
#

I got my trusty hyperX Clouds 2

ashen spindle

exactly

wheat plume

DACs are expensive AF tho?

crisp granite

depends

#

some are less than $150 CAD

wheat plume

hmmm

crisp granite

some cost more than my car

depends

wheat plume

I cant help make a pun from that brand name

#

I hope its not....schiit

crisp granite

the audio is awful, right?

shit audio?

wheat plume
#

wait..is that USB thingy that comes with the clouds 2 meant to be a DAC?

#

its the thing that enables 7.1 surround

crisp granite
#

maybe

#

lots of headsets come with usb sound cards nowadays

wheat plume
#

O.o im a moron, I havent even plugged them in using that to the new PC

#

I need to do that tomorrow and see if it sounds better

and to test 7.1

#

oh, was about to ask if I could plug my nommas into that but they only connect with USB

so I cant

I know manjaro gnome had the best sounding audio yet manjaro plasma sounded thin

#

very odd

#

ArcoLinux is pretty noice though

neat oriole
#

Idk that’s a first to me that OS would affect sound

#

Unless it had shit audio drivers or something

ashen spindle
#

the OS has 0 impact on it, they just use different settings/codecs/drivers whatnot

neat oriole
#

That’s more like it

wheat plume
#

hmmmm

ashen spindle
#

then again linux might just do weird stuff as it usually does

wheat plume
#

pulse audio is tricky

neat oriole
#

Like no kap Apple dongle is amazing for $9

wheat plume
#

wow

crimson wigeon
#

Yes different distros can have different default configs

wheat plume
#

I saw a sound chart for my headphones
they are quite flat except a small bump near the bass

#

so they sound neutral anyway

neat oriole
#

Hyper x aren’t flat they’re pretty v shaped

wheat plume
#

hmm, lemme try to find that chart again

neat oriole
#

But it depends on what compensation curve whatever graph uses

ashen spindle
#

all I know is they sounded shit compared to mine when I had to use them once bc I forgot to charge my batteries gloryKeK

crisp granite
#

is the dongle labeled as an adapter?

neat oriole
#

I think so

wheat plume
#

this is the chart I saw

neat oriole
#

The USB C version works well on windows

#

Oh rtings

wheat plume
#

yeh

neat oriole
#

They have a whack compensation curve

#

It’s better to look at the raw graph

wheat plume
#

pretty much the same

#

yeh raw chart pmuch same as that one

true quest
#

as long as i can get ptsd from playing squad im fine

wheat plume
#

LEL

crisp granite
#

eyyyyy

wheat plume
#

Insurgency already creeps me out if im last person in team and I hear footsteps creeping up to the objective

#

especially in night time maps

#

seems this motherboard claims to have that solved

crisp granite
#

as long as I feel chills hearing a super mutant telling me about how it will wear my guts around it's neck with crisp audio, it's good

neat oriole
#

I mean the Apple dongle already has really low SINAD

#

If that’s what you care

wheat plume
#

Seperate layer for left and right tracks

crisp granite
#

what is SINAD?

wheat plume
#

SINAD?

neat oriole
#

Signal-Noise-Distortion ratio

#

Basically

wheat plume
#

im not an audiophile but I get bothered by interference and background hiss or tinny sounding things

neat oriole
#

Very clean

crisp granite
#

ok

#

so low SINAD is good?

neat oriole
#

Yes

#

Well no

#

You want a high number for SINAD

#

Which means low noise

wheat plume
#

High number means it does more to prevent things

#

Got it

crisp granite
#

ah

#

ok

neat oriole
#

So for example, Apple dongle is 99db for SINAD, Schiit Modi ($99 dac) is 107db

#

So Schiit is a bit cleaner

wheat plume
#

Oo

#

First time I'm tempted to buy an Apple product

crisp granite
#

clean sh*t

#

sounds good to me

neat oriole
#

It’s better than any on board solution

#

Will sound cleaner than your mobo

crisp granite
#

are PCI-E sound cards ok?

neat oriole
#

Nah

#

Trash

wheat plume
#

It connects with USB?

neat oriole
#

The whole point is to take the thing out of your noisy emf box

#

So any internal solution is already gimped

crisp granite
#

ok

neat oriole
#

Yes it’s USB C

crisp granite
#

good to know

wheat plume
#

Oh
I don't have USB C on my PC

neat oriole
#

Get a USB A to C adapter

#

Yeah you can use it

wheat plume
#

Won't that adapter add back a lot if noise?

neat oriole
#

No

crisp granite
#

I play at a fairly low volume and I hear faint buzzing sometimes

#

would an external dac fix that?

neat oriole
#

Yeah like i said any sound solution that’s inside a PC case is just inherently gimped be noise from the other components

#

Yes an external dac will help reduce noise

crisp granite
#

bottom slot it is

wheat plume
#

On my cheap ass wireless earbuds
I get a lot of audible hissing when music is playing

#

But duh
They cheap af

neat oriole
#

Thats just Wireless being wireless

wheat plume
#

Nah
I've have wireless headphones before and didn't have that hiss

#

These earbuds were $20

ashen spindle
#

I feel like I should know if my 200$ headphones have a dac built in but I never checked lul

neat oriole
#

A wireless system is a Bluetooth receiver, dac, and amp. So if they use a shit dac/amp in the headphones you’ll hear hissing

wheat plume
#

Yeah..... You should check that

neat oriole
#

All Bluetooth headphones have to have dacs in them

#

Or they wouldn’t work

ashen spindle
#

ok so I have one good to know lmao

#

assumed as much

neat oriole
#

Now if it has a mic or any sort of controls it’s also going to have a mic amp, an ADC, and a Bluetooth sender

ashen spindle
#

nah its just a wireless headphone

wheat plume
#

Why do hyperX not have the clouds 2 in their website yet they have the og clouds?

#

Wtf

ashen spindle
#

sennheiser rs180 iirc? would need to check my old email to be sure what they are

neat oriole
#

Did you know that the hyper x are Takstar clones, which are Beyerdynamic clones

wheat plume
#

Hmm......

neat oriole
#

Another tackstar clone that also happens to be a gaming headset is the Corsair mh750

ashen spindle
#

all I know is my hyperx are collecting dust as an emergency backup I dont want to use lmao

wheat plume
#

Sue

#

Fucking hell

#

:')

neat oriole
#

I mean if you can’t hear the noise that’s good

#

Saves you money

wheat plume
#

Idk what that photo is meant to show

neat oriole
#

You know it’s like having tinnitus, if your ears are scuffed you don’t have to think about 6k headphones

wheat plume
#

6 grand wtf

neat oriole
#

Audio gets expensive

ashen spindle
#

if you are blind you don't gain benefits from higher resolution monitors blobhyperthinkfast

neat oriole
#

Exactly

wheat plume
#

How does one read braille

#

Xxdd
