Would be interesting to know how would apple and google look today if google did not decide to make android that similar, maybe with help of Schmidt.
The thing is that at first this companies did not see each other as competitors, google founders even wanted Steve Jobs to become CEO, and apple offered google few employees, as Google was at start just software based, and google co founders and Jobs were friends.

What is B460?

Why is B460 being talked about?

Ahh

Intel shit

I thought B450 was refreshed to B460 or something

ashen spindle

That is one part where I don’t like amds decision to just copy the names

Sorry, they said 2020 launch, so Q6 2020 gloryKeK

reef patrol
#

Intel started that fight iirc.

ashen spindle
#

I think amd started it with something so intel had to skip a generation to not have the exact same name?

#

Could be wrong but that’s what I remember

cursive summit
#

That was AMD stealing from Intel

#

I mean "stealing" is not really exact

#

More like "adjusting" their naming scheme to reflect their performance grade

#

The motherboard naming scheme is a clusterfuck

#

So are GPUs

ashen spindle
#

Yes making it easy is fair, trademarks I already posted about it, I like it for their CPU’s, not how they have done it with boards

thick elk
#

It makes sense from a business perspective. AMD was mostly wiped out from the minds in the cpu space, they needed to have a naming scheme familiar with intel.

ashen spindle
#

You can make it similar without having it be basically the same so the other one needs to change/skip something

Intel 500-series motherboards for Rocket Lake-S also to launch in March Just hours after we broke the news that Intel Rocket Lake-S will launch in March, HDTecnologia have confirmation on the 500-series motherboard launch schedule. A roadmap for the Rocket Lake-S motherboards ...

#

Threadripper really caught them offguard if there is nothing till 10nm coming lmao

thick elk
#

I don't think it's just that they got cought off guard, they simply have nothing they can offer that would be competitive with threadripper.

#

Only thing they could do is compete on price.

#

However I do think their actual production costs per cpu are a lot higher as well.

forest sphinx
#

Yeah cause they do monolith as opposed to chiplet yeah?

thick elk
#

Also because of the performance per watt of their 14nm process. Sure rocket lake may improve that a bit but end of the day there is only so much power the chips can pull.

ashen spindle
#

No they 100% got caught off guard, threadripper from my knowledge was an idea one team had randomly like a month before launch and pushed it, so there was literally not even time for it to get leaked to intel as it wasn’t even planned

forest sphinx
#

Well I mean yeah. They had the lead for so long and they havent used it to really crush amd like they could have

thick elk
#

First gen threadripper but we are quite some time away from that.

ashen spindle
#

Yes but intel is still on the same uArch lol

#

More or less at least

thick elk

They still would have faced the same problem if they did see it comming though

forest sphinx

see you in a few years on that 14nm+++++++++++++++

ashen spindle
#

Mhh no i think they could’ve at least had a better start to mitigate the impact TR had so it wouldn’t run away like it does now

#

Don’t think we would see more cores or anything just a better strategy than skylake-X was

wheat plume
reef tundra
#

it costs some transfer performance, it seems like

wheat plume
#

but good idea to enable?

#

ive enabled it before on my old PC

reef tundra
#

It has a lot of notes which pretty much end up as: data loss if done incorrectly

#

Also not all ssd's support trim..

wheat plume
#

surely a "gaming" NVME ssd will support it? :P

#

they actually advertise this ssd for gaming...

reef tundra
#

My nvme ssd does support it but havent done anything with it.

#

If bits fail just move on to the unused bits works fine in EEPROM so SSDs should work the same principle or i will call the CEO of SSDs to be angry and tell that EEPROMS are better

#

lsblk --discard
can be used to check for trim support

#

if the DISC-GRAN and DISC-MAX are not zero it has trim support

#

if you force trim on a non-trim device it will work.. just the data will end up missing

#

If you want maximum performance it is bloat

reef tundra

is the kernel not handling it correctly already?

wheat plume

fans seem to be running always fast

reef tundra

odd, cpu load in check?

wheat plume
#

hm?

reef tundra
#

cpu not at 80% load somehow

wheat plume
#

nah

#

cpu usage seems normal

reef tundra
#

how much?

wheat plume
#

not bad, highest ive seen not playing a game was 18 when loading this app

reef tundra
#

the high usage is from start up and settles to few precents when idling?

wheat plume
#

moving a windows around makes the cpu spike

reef tundra
#

doing nothing makes it settle to few precent or not?

wheat plume
#

yeah

#

it settles

#

nearly nothing

reef tundra
#

ohh ok. mine is at 1% currenly. 0.5% for webcontent ree

#

That should be normal. What does the CPU sensor read?

#

maybe the sensor is fucked and reads insane values.. they are resistors afterall (cheapos atleas)

wheat plume

I added a lil cpu usage widget

playing youtube video in chrome and typing this, it getrs to 12%

reef tundra

reef tundra

wheat plume
#

I know htop

#

whats different?

reef tundra
#

you have top, htop, ytop, gotop, bashtop, bpyhtop.. and more

#

iotop

wheat plume
#

wow

reef tundra
#

top is an old one

#

pretty much process handling (killing, freezing, viewing)

#

htop added more functions

#

oh ytop got deprecated last month

wheat plume
ashen spindle
#

try removing that thing it mentions on the screen, "arch" sounds like maleware glorySmug

reef tundra
#

That means that it expects an interrupt handler but none was given

wheat plume
#

hm....

#

it only happens sometimees

#

what do I do to not make it expect one?

reef tundra
#

interrupts are pretty much: drop everything and do this now. context switch even outside the OS systicks

#

atleast if they are hardware interrupts

#

software can be more nicer by waiting for a systick

#

It also allows for Priority Inversion which is even more of a headache

wheat plume
#

so what can I do to make it shut down as fast as possible?

reef tundra
#

sudo shutdown --now

#

or something

wheat plume
#

the last line says something about the nvme drive

ashen spindle
#

shutdown -h now maybe?

reef tundra
#

I use sudo runit-init 0

ashen spindle
#

actually dont know what -h does I just know it shuts down my vm and thats what I need lul

reef tundra
#

or dmenu which i have a script for the handle the shutdown, reboot, sleep, lock etc

wheat plume
#

I put the application style back to breeze but its still using kvantum

reef tundra
ashen spindle
#

guess im doing the right thing and not causing any damage with what im doing then :p

reef tundra
#

shutdown does its job by signalling the init process, asking it to change the runlevel. Runlevel 0 is used to halt the system, runlevel 6 is used to reboot the system, and runlevel 1 is used to put the system into a state where administrative tasks can be performed (single-user mode). Runlevel 1 is the default, unless the -h or -r options are specified.

#

it pretty much goes past the init process and completely kills and shutdowns the system itself

ashen spindle
#

yup sounds like what I want

reef tundra
#

it pretty much forces all cpu instructions to stop

#

forced stop

#

Good for administrative control. when you want to show who owns the os

wheat plume
#

So sometimes
For no reason
This os tells it to go into run level 1 when you tell it to shut down?

#

And that's why it waits there for a minute or so

reef tundra
#

It tells systemD to shutdown by signalling

#

but systemd is too busy with making security risks to notice

reef patrol
#

Huehuehue... MSI scalping consumers 😄

old marlin
#

what do they do now

reef patrol
#

One of their subsidiaries were basically selling 3080s at scalper prices.

#

An accusation has been made on Reddit that MSI might be involved in a scalping process through its US subsidiary on eBay. MSI selling GeForce RTX 3080 at a much higher price through its subsidiary on eBay? The eBay listing reveals that the company known as Starlit Partner has ...

pliant shard

#

Republic of china

pliant shard
#

there's something that handles the pricing

#

i don't think they just go off of demand

#

because if they did all the 3080s would be going for over a thousand dollars

#

and they'd still be bought out

reef patrol
#

MSI is free to sell the cards at whatever price they want, I really don't mind this practice personally.
@thick elk Sure. The real trouble is that the subsidiary were basically leeching off of stock going to suppliers who already had orders going.

reef tundra
#

No.. you confuse the legal system enough that the original owner gets obscured enough that you cannot link them together definitatively but the money wont care. it will go to the obscured client. Saves on taxes and lawsuits

thick elk
#

That's fair, taking away from already placed orders is bad.

reef patrol
#

Still waiting for an actual confirmation of my TUF order. Apparently the backorders are in the couple thousands here.

thick elk
#

If however they decided, from the getgo, you know what let's just sell our cards for $1000 in the at launch I would be fine with that.

pliant shard
#

i do wonder

#

what people would have paid

#

i'm guessing closer to 1200?

reef patrol
#

I definitely wouldn't have 😄

pliant shard
#

for each 3080 to have been purchased by someone, with zero backorder

reef patrol
#

I paid roughly 900$ - MSRP for the FE.

pliant shard
#

i didn't want to wait but now i'm waiting for whatever amd manages to shit out

#

sounds like you're a yuro

reef patrol
#

Yup.

pliant shard
#

you know

#

it's funny

#

i can get a 3900 hundreds cheaper than you guys

#

but if i want to have that hosted in a server in a datacenter

#

it's like 200% more expensive in murica

#

shame really

reef patrol

reef tundra
#

While the hardworking laborour is working without his graphic cards the bots are buying all the cards for just being lucky to have his 82381th preorder request accepted before the working plebs can even blink!

thick elk
#

Pirces in europe for cpu's are not that bad, at least were I live, it's just that 21% vat does make it more expensive.

pliant shard
#

i don't want to colocate

#

frankly i only need a handful of really powerful cores at any given moment

#

so i don't mind all the fuckery that comes with the gray area between a vps and dedicated server

wheat plume
#

he might have later but not in the video

old marlin
#

for an IO

#

completely disregarding the whoel rest of the board

reef patrol
#

That's like... three times more USB than I need 😄

old marlin
#

which would kill the NZXT option entirely

#

yea I like to have more than one spare

thick elk
#

I always think in lines of motherboards I buy for work. here it's 3 display connectors or a big fat nope from me.

reef patrol
#

Display connectors... on the motherboard.

#

Fascinating 😄

old marlin
#

?

reef tundra
#

They be saving bank by skimming on the connectors costing like 10-15 cents

old marlin
#

why do you want 3 display connectors on a high end plattform

fair gull
#

i have heard the n7 z490 only as 4layer pcb

thick elk
#

It's just what my mind jumps to, of course you don't need them on high end z490 mobo's

reef tundra
#

CPU can create a kernelmode buffer to create graphics.. or the internal gpu

old marlin
#

The N7 Z490 includes WiFi 6 connectivity and utilizes all PCI express lanes available from the CPU and chipset so everything works as intended.

#

wat

misty saffron
#

you can't argue with the guy

reef patrol
reef tundra
#

Imagine using all 60 lanes

fair gull
#

for wifi

reef tundra
#

from the cpu alone

old marlin
thick elk
#

However shit CAM may be, I am sure Gigabyte makes worse software.

reef patrol
#

Oh yeah. CAM is bounds better than mobo software.

old marlin
#

ehhhhhh

reef tundra
#

chipset makes their own pcie lanes from the lanes it has to the cpu

misty saffron
#

cam is required if you have nzxt hardware though

old marlin
#

CAM is a huge pile of dogshit

misty saffron
#

well, for aios at least

old marlin
#

but asus has that extra spice

fair gull
#

asrock bios

old marlin
#

to make software as bad as humanly possible

reef patrol
#

CAM is a huge pile of dogshit
@old marlin Which says more about the mobo manufacturer software than NZXT.

misty saffron
#

motherboard software is barely used

fair gull
#

nice

#

i want that board

#

cant even do original bios interface

old marlin
#

has a clear cmos button on the back

misty saffron
#

did they pick the worst asrock motherboard as a base or what

reef tundra
#

Why they be hating on cam. I like my cam shaft in the car makes it go foward

misty saffron
#

asrock has decent motherboards

old marlin
#

I wonder how often that gets pressed accidentally

#

also ngl

misty saffron
#

but this looks like shit

old marlin
#

CAM is worse than any asus software

#

or gigabyte software

fair gull
#

its a modified asrock/asus layout so u dont instantly feel like its asus/asrock

old marlin
#

to be worse than CAM you have to either be fundamentally broken

#

or just be COMPLETE dogshit

reef tundra
#

Like intel

fair gull
#

have u seen the code i write yama

reef tundra
fair gull
thick elk
#

Gigabyte software simply will not work for anyone at some point.
Their rgb software got a weird random downgrade. Sure it doesnt kill your cpu but it certainly is very bad.

fair gull
#
Although the N7 Z490 is NZXT's latest motherboard on the market, the ASRock OEM does the heavy lifting regarding the firmware, with all the hallmarks of an ASRock BIOS, with a custom NZXT GUI. The interface includes a black background with grey and white text, with some vibrant purple accentuation.
reef tundra
#

Yes the goto is my favorite command, it makes my dogshit coding working

fair gull
#

so it is just an asrock board modified

#

for nzxt

misty saffron
#

custom nzxt gui

#

ah yes, modified colors and bitmaps

fair gull
#

and shitty layout

reef tundra
#

and second-hand drivers from greg the crackhead

fair gull
#

oh and they changed it from f7 for advanced/basic switching to f6

#

much customization

misty saffron
reef tundra
#

muh custumisation

misty saffron
#

this is exactly how much ram software needs to control fan rpms

#

anything lower is impossible

fair gull
#

looks like a nice electron app

crimson wigeon
#

BuT uNuSeD rAm Is WaStEd RaM

reef tundra
#

Mesa happy with my msi. many zoomies it gives, joy i have

old marlin
#

Lol

reef patrol
#

No issues with my MSI either...but I mean... I didn't exactly pick it.

fair gull
old marlin
#

Windows memory allocation is a weird beast

fair gull
#

idk works fine with c

reef tundra
#

I choose my mobo cus the socket matched and it is white

misty saffron
#

200 fucking megabytes for fan speed software

crimson wigeon
#

Hot take all these "fan control RGB OOOH" softwares are dogshit change my mind

misty saffron
old marlin
#

Allocated ram is not wasted tam

fair gull
#

like if theyd just write software in c,c++ or c# even

#

the ram management would be tons better

reef tundra
#

Discord: succccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccccc memory

fair gull
#

because its an electron app

#

this is all because of chromium lol

reef tundra
#

Because it is a chrome tab

fair gull
#

thats why chrome, electron and chromium suck

reef tundra
#

Yes, lets use gopher instead

#

it had like 3d websites

fair gull
#

just write a good piece of software insteadof just using webbrowser to render them

misty saffron
#

like fuck, if you REALLY want your app to be a web page

#

use some lightweight chromium-based library

fair gull
#

doesnt exist lol

crimson wigeon
#

Lightweight and Chromium don't go together

misty saffron
#

pretty sure there was one

fair gull
#

not chromium based

#

100%

reef tundra
#

Chromium is performant due to its heavyweight

fair gull
#

u could use node-canvas and handlebars tho

thick elk
fair gull
#

to render webpages locally

misty saffron
#

do you need performance for a web page with buttons lol

reef tundra
#

just disable javascript it is a dissapointment to its parents anyway

fair gull
#

i could argue on that tbh

#

its more the scriptkiddies ruining it

reef tundra
#

Most recent windows remote code execution used javascript to work

#

lel

#

affected even 2003 server

misty saffron
#

its more the scriptkiddies ruining it
@fair gull what do you mean you don't need a library that compares strings???

fair gull
#

ngl

#

in enterprise situations i get using that

old marlin
#

People haven't aeen the worst yet though lol

misty saffron
fair gull
#

yes

#

cause its easier to replace a module with exported interfaces

#

that changes what "equal" means

old marlin
#

Alphacool fancontroller

fair gull
#

than rewriting all equality checks

reef tundra
#

Morty nuke us all mortis we need to die mortis

old marlin
#

Absolute dogshit

#

Completely unusable

misty saffron
#

88k downloads definitely suggests it's not just enterprise code though

reef tundra
#

Just compare the pointers and return true or false based on that

fair gull
#

its used by some enterprise grade packages

old marlin
#

Only controllable with an app i would have expected as a result from a middleschool project

fair gull
#

each dependencies is a new download

#

since the module recursively installs needed modules

reef tundra
#

yes sex

#

i mean recursion

#

stack overflow

thick elk
#

The issue for me with all those modules is that you suddenly add a lot of points of failure / potential issues.

fair gull
#

i mean worse yet is this languaged called PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor

reef tundra
#

Job assurance

fair gull
#

i hate php

#

but i have to use it

#

and usually i just abuse it to include headers in all webpages

reef tundra
#

and php hates you back sweety :)

fair gull
#

and then all my php is just html

#

without a single php tag in the php file

old marlin
#

@fair gull my brother still has that alphacool fancontroller monkaS

fair gull
#

poor soul

reef tundra
#

Good job, better than php/html soup

old marlin
#

Seen the app?

fair gull
#

gladly not

#

@reef tundra well some files have like 10 php tags

#

but

old marlin
#

"controller" is an overestimation tbh

#

It can turnf ans on and off

fair gull
#

i really wanna convert to razor/asp.net

old marlin
#

But with a slider

fair gull
#

the slider makes it a controller

reef tundra
#

Use c instead its like assembly but doesnt want to seppaku immiatly

fair gull
#

thats how this works my man

#

@reef tundra but asp.net works great

reef tundra
#

C

fair gull
#

i built a webpanel in it

#

and it works

#

plus in c its way too much work to build a webserver being able to run on any os

reef tundra
#

asp.net sound like website and websites are websheites

fair gull

i need a website tho

wheat plume

vatican MC server??!!

reef tundra
#

By the grace of god

wheat plume
thick elk
#

Imagine using gentoo

wheat plume
#

yeah....

#

heck no

#

need to compile EVERYTHING

ashen spindle
#

sounds like linux

thick elk
#

Normally the vast majority of packages are precompiled, on Gentoo you need to build almost everything from source.
Nice and all that you can change a lot of compilation flags and optimizations but not something for normal desktop use.

Interestingly enough Chrome-OS is build on gentoo, making gentoo the most popular distro in desktop space.

halcyon moss
#

Runnig gentoo for a while teaches you alot about linux systems.
Never again will i run gentoo :p

#

Just plain Ubuntu will do just fine

thick elk
#

I installed it once but never really used it, compiling was just too much a hassle, Also wanted to run systemd for some reason (not fun either)

#

On gentoo that is

wheat plume
#

sounds like linux
@ashen spindle sounds like Gentoo

reef tundra
#

The aur also builds from source often

wheat plume
#

Yeah

#

that too

halcyon moss
#

tweaking use flags

#

forgetting that one flag, gotta recompile the entire system

reef tundra
#

The aur is pretty much a file that tells where to download and compile the package.

ashen spindle
#

yeah I just stick with ubunut, my stuff runs on it, the VM runs fine and I can easily google commands I need and find results lmao

thick elk
#

For a lot of packages there are also binaries.

reef tundra
#

yay is great

#

yay to update the entire system with source

thick elk
#

I usually just grab binaries if they are available even on aur.

reef tundra
#

That is litterly what the buildfile automates

#

you can even add non-packages to the pacman

tawny prism
reef tundra
#

allows you to manage it more easyly

tawny prism
#

Craigslist is sort of badass sometimes

thick elk
#

I created my own PKGBUILD once or twice, never added it to AUR though.

ashen spindle
#

nice, what socket is that

thick elk
#

For binaries it still can automatically get the latest version which is still nice.

reef tundra
#

Seems server grade pcb

tawny prism
#

2011-V2

reef tundra
#

rip the xeon pentium

tawny prism
#

I'm building it as a workstation.

reef tundra
#

Xeons are a meme btw. pretty much aliexpress and fanboys thinking that xeon is always better than amd cus amd sux loll. ending up with some out of date xeon pentium from 2005 with no level 3 cache and burning cpu

tawny prism
#

Eh, Sandy Bridge are still pretty competitive

#

For gaming I've seen some correlation with that, the 2009~2011 Westmere/Nahalem (x5000 etc) chips hit the point where they're bottlenecks on anything over an RTX1660

#

So sadly they're in the "I guess they'll be a good match for someone to browse Facebook" category of salvage

reef tundra
#

Some games are more cpu bound than others. and some dont even multithread/multicore so for those game single core performance is all that matters. Servers love more cores as that means more connections at the same time

tawny prism
#

The real advantage to Xeons is if you have the chops for it they're ludicrously cheap.

reef tundra
#

cus you can write them off in one year

tawny prism
#

And E-recycling. Server farms dump CPUs and memory by the truckload. Universities do the same with Workstations from HP, Lenovo, and Dell

reef tundra
#

Because they are on paper worth 0 within a year

#

so why not sell them and make infinite more money than they are worth on paper

tawny prism
#

Less than nothing, it costs more to run them watt-to-cycle wise than the new shit so you lose money keeping them.

#

Also they don't even sell them, they pay people to take them with stuff like toner cartridges and batteries and write it off as e-waste.

reef tundra
#

That is the variable cost, depreciation applies to the base 'fixed' costs

tawny prism
#

And then someone with a warehouse stockpiles it and makes more money selling it for cheap as hell, and someone like me repurposes it

reef tundra
#

Technically the computer of one year old contributes 0dollars to the company value

tawny prism
#

Oh yeah, that

reef tundra
#

yea, the depriciation

#

tax write off

#

which is one year

#

doubt that servers are updated && upgraded yearly

tawny prism
#

But yeah, I've been getting people into t5610's for schooling and working from home for 120~200$ and still making 20$/hr after for what I put into them after material

#

Saves them 400$ on an i3 rig from best buy for a machine that runs better

thorn latch
#

wrote this today

urban lynx
#

guy that repaired windshield damage on my moms car wanted to convince her that her wipers needed replacement.
bitch, i replaced those myself 2 months ago when i drove it.

reef tundra
#

They wipe => they work

urban lynx
#

it was raining today

#

even my mom said she didnt have any issues with them while driving there

#

guy also said he "disinfected all surfaces he touched"

#

as he just got out of the car literal seconds after he parked it outside the garage.

reef tundra
#

*with wd-40

urban lynx
#

i mean my mom dont really care about that disinfection of the surface stuff

#

but still really bold of him.

reef tundra
#

Garages are known to be scummy

urban lynx
#

guy literally just had like two containers welded together on a parking lot

#

and is part of some big "chain" for window damage repairs

#

he also only found one of the two damaged spots on the windshield.

reef tundra
#

Small cracks can be filled with some resin large ones need the whole windshild to be replaced

#

and the front windshield is removable by using the legs and pushing from the inside

#

pops right out

#

broken but doesnt need heavy machinery

urban lynx
#

yeah it's one of these resin services

reef tundra
#

Thats just a fill and fine sandpaper job

urban lynx
#

yeah it took like half an hour

#

me and my mom went into some clothing store in the meantime

crimson wigeon
#

autoglass repair, autoglass replace

urban lynx
#

carglass, yeah

reef tundra
#

Hardest part is getting the resin in the first place. the stuff itself is just pour, UV lamp/heat and sand it down untill flat and sanding is too fine to see

urban lynx
#

you can still kind of see where the damage on the windshield was

#

but as long as it gets my moms car through the inspection on friday, all is good. i guess.

reef tundra
#

Because they dont care often enough to put a vacuum or pressure on it so bubbles and uneven finish is to be expected. Plus the glass and resin have a slghtly different reflactory index so edges will be hard to make invisible

#

The most important fact is if it will hold like the old glass would and not crack further acting as nucleation site

urban lynx
#

¯_(ツ)_/¯

#

it's my mom cars to be fair

#

so i dont really care that much

#

i probably would look into a replacement windshield first before

#

but i assume those are super expensive to a degree

reef tundra
#

They expensive

#

Its custom large multilayered glass, polymer, fiber, etc part. That is never cheap

#

Also good to know is that the door windows are made differently compared to the windshield and have their weakspot on the edges. Hardend glass is known to shadder spotaniously when the edge is just slightly touched.

pale sigil
#

Oi @ashen spindle

#

When and where to watch ryzen reveal

urban lynx
#

my front windshield window glass apparently is about 220€

ashen spindle
#

tomorrow not today for ryzen

pale sigil
#

I am aware

#

So back to my question 😄

ashen spindle
#

idk

pliant shard
#

man

#

amd pre announcing their pre announcements

ashen spindle
#

you want them to hold an announcement nobody knows of so everyone misses it? thonk

pliant shard
#

nah i just think it's hilarious

crimson wigeon
#

Can't wait to see how much they're gonna talk about the competition

pliant shard
#

and i'm mostly talking about the entire sequence before this

#

fuckin lighting up r*ddit

ashen spindle
#

I mean, not as bad as nvidia with their 21 days thing

pliant shard
#

i dunno. hard to beat the uh

ashen spindle
#

I really dont care about reddit posts, I go to reddit to make fun of people using reddit if at all gloryKeK

pliant shard
#

some of their meme tweets

#

they should all just fire marketing

ashen spindle
#

oh yeah in the past they were definitely worse, "poor volta" "jebaited" etc.

pliant shard
#

the product should speak for itself

ashen spindle
#

as much as I'd like to see 0 marketing, I can understand them needing to have it to sell stuff :p

#

and so far I'd say amd did the least marketing while probably having the best products out of the big 3 lul

pliant shard
#

eh it's mostly the fault of the consumer that companies spend so much on marketing

#

wow linus lied to us about the 3090 being a gaming gpu!

ashen spindle
#

like intel just "announced" rocket lake a day before zen3 release despite it coming Q2 2021

#

I'd say amd telling you a month early that they will show zen3 is quite tame in comparison there

pliant shard
#

what's the last hurdle for ryzen

#

uncore clock?

#

i'd like to use some 4000+ mt ram without getting punished for it

ashen spindle
#

well we will see higher IF clocks

thick elk
#

Latency is the biggest weakpoint in general

#

zen 2 helped here with more cache but gaming is generally a very latency sensitive application.
So lower latency higher clock speed should be the key.

#

Higher IF clocks would help here

#

unified CCX also helps

ashen spindle
#

we will see lower latency, but we will need to wait to zen4 for really low latency, when they supposedly go to a monolithic design for non server market again

thick elk
#

yea latency has been pretty much constent for quite some time

ashen spindle
#

compare the latencies, you only actually get more from higher clocks if you get tight timings with it

pliant shard
#

would be nice for ddr5 to come out already

thick elk
#

Not really prices go up, early ddr5 will not have much of an advantage

ashen spindle
#

same again, read the article and look at ddr5 latencies :p

#

for gaming it wont change anything for a while

#

other applications that use actual transfer bandwidth sure

thick elk
#

It will help with gaming (on a IGP)

ashen spindle
#

:p fair point I guess

#

wait lmao is this for real

#

the rocket lake announcement isnt even on an intel site, its a medium post

#

LMAO

#

3/4 marketing fluff and one sentence of info

#

wow

crimson wigeon
#

Sounds about right

pliant shard
#

commitment to gaming

ashen spindle
#

I mean, I guess intel really is cutting costs if they cant host a page long pdf announcing a product on their own site anymore

pliant shard
#

oh no no no no no no

thick elk
#

That Avengers contract really hurt them financially.

ashen spindle
#

lmao

pliant shard
#

i've read parking tickets more interesting than that

reef tundra
#

Hello, we intel, giv money

ashen spindle
pale sigil
#

I know what I’m getting

ashen spindle
#

nothing

pale sigil
#

Ye 😦

reef patrol
#

Still waiting for order confirmation on my 3080.

ashen spindle
#

rip but also lul

#

If I get my new card before you get yours I'll send you a cookie

reef patrol
ashen spindle
#

but that means you wouldn't get your card till like mid/end of november at least gloryKeK

#

bc my current plan is getting an amd one if nothing major is wrong with it

reef patrol
#

My watercooling stuff for it ships late Oct, so... Nov isn't far off from being able to use it anyhow 😄

ashen spindle
urban lynx
#

so the advanced ones of the nvidia 30xx series comes end of this year?

reef patrol
#

Maybe - I kind of doubt it.

#

Same chip, just more VRAM

#

So they'd be cutting into existing products.

urban lynx
#

i need new gpu for cp77 though GWcentralKongouNoo

ashen spindle
#

do you need it for launch or for when it's playable gloryKeK

reef patrol
#

Don't we all. If I get a confirmation for my order before it comes out, I'll definitely shelf the game till then.

Might as well see RTX for real 😄

ashen spindle
#

it's also more of a "we got the bigger schlong" move since AMD is supposedly having 16GB variants

#

the 20gb is barely mattering for games, unless you do like heavy skyrim modding

pale sigil
#

I just want DLSS 😦

#

Which is why I’m very no going to AMD

#

I’d only go amd if it’s significant

urban lynx
#

i kinda wanna play right from launch

#

the only bug i ever caught upon a game launch was doc mitchells exorcism move

reef patrol
#

Gotta be able to load entire games into VRAM, Quin

ashen spindle
#

yeah I'd prefer non-proprietary upscaling over dlss trying to sell you something(that is still cool), as the second coming of cuda cores

#

then I take it you didn't play witcher 3 sarah lul

pale sigil
#

If I can get higher FPS without losing noticeable quality am happy

urban lynx
#

no i didnt

#

cause i couldnt run it

pale sigil
#

I almost avoid all game launches now

ashen spindle
#

who moved this

#

@reef patrol @pale sigil

pale sigil
#

It wasn’t actually me this time

ashen spindle
#

you can still fix it

reef patrol

Sorry. Already in bed. Will fix tomorrow.

thats the bios for the model without wifi, need to get the right one

in the bios

wheat plume

I searched for xmp and no result

Ooo

ashen spindle

look for it idk

wheat plume

There is a fan control test

sick urchin
#

XMP might be called AMP on amd boards

wheat plume

Ohh
I'll look for that once this fan tune thing is done

#

No result for AMP

ashen spindle

dont use the search funktion and look with your eyes

sick urchin
#

or DOCP I guess

wheat plume
#

APM?

ashen spindle
#

urghh ofc they need to constantly change the names

wheat plume
#

I found APM settings

reef patrol
#

This is all of my internet. Youtube streams, apps and so on.

#

Well was 😄

thick elk
#

Could be some big outage somewhere in the network infrastructure (mostly ddos attacks)
Chaging to another dns provider can help here because dns traffic is routed differently.

#

I have seen the same in the past.

reef patrol
#

In my case it seems a bit unlikely, since we're talking like a year at this point 😄

fair gull
#

one of the nicest builds i have done so far

crisp granite

what gpu is that?

wheat plume
#

RTX!

#

wow

lucky

fair gull

2070 super

crisp granite
#

noice

fair gull

this was build when rtx 30 was still rumors

reef patrol
#

Not bad. Using a 240 rad looks a bit silly in the Dynamic though 😄

fair gull

ik but that was their choice

reef patrol
#

Also... clearly visible corsair sticker in the front

fair gull
#

cant remove shit from rads

thick elk
#

No intake fans?

fair gull
#

and cramming it in to the left was weird

reef patrol
#

It's a sticker. I mean...you literally CAN 😄

fair gull
#

no company policy

reef patrol
#

Fuuuuun

#

I would have ripped it off and taped it to the side panel xD

fair gull
#

im only allowed to peel of the plastic stuff

crisp granite
#

what company doesn't let you enjoy half the peels?

#

that's sickening

old marlin
#

?

#

the peels of stickers that could "void a warranty" before a customer even gets it?

fair gull
#

well its not about voiding the wareanty

#

BUT we did have some nut cases that complained about stickers not being in the expected locations

old marlin
#

prob more about permanently altering the product?

fair gull
#

so we just arent allowed to move them

#

@old marlin more or less

#

its basically some idiots ruining it for everyone else

old marlin
#

have a friend that works at a retailer in paris and does a lot of builds for customers

#

the choices some people make yikes

fair gull
#

well i have to fix tons of builds before even making an offer

old marlin
#

liek specifically asking to put their air cooled gpu in a vertical slot

#

choking it at the glass panel

fair gull
#

usually wrong fan combinations with corsair hubs and shit
