Depends on your plans.

cursive summit
#

If I were to build in a case, I'm going Lian li

reef patrol
#

Airflow isn't awesome, but it would make for an awesome themed build. Put something less transparent on the glass sides and turn it into a heartbeat like red effect for some DOOM

wheat plume
#

lemme paint my PC case teal

#

HOLY SHIT THE CASE IS $300

cursive summit
#

Lian li cases look so fresh and badass

reef patrol
#

Hehehe

cursive summit
#

Such a sick case..

reef patrol
#

Yep. It's a great case.

wheat plume
reef patrol
#

peers to right

cursive summit
#

Are Lian li a bit more on the premium side?

reef patrol
#

A bit.

#

Less plastic.

cursive summit
#

I have only heard great things about them though

#

And they listen to feedback apparently

reef patrol
wheat plume
#

oo

reef patrol
wheat plume
#

that would only work in a place thats not dusty

#

RIP my roomm

#

my room is fucking dusty

cursive summit
#

My dad, a welder, can make one for you @reef patrol

reef patrol
#

Eh. All rooms are dusty. You can clean it ๐Ÿ˜„

cursive summit
#

Bet it will cost like 15 euros or so

#

He likes tinkering with metal from time to time

reef patrol
cursive summit
#

FUCK

#

I NEED

wheat plume
#

my motherboard has a ps/2 slot

#

but y tho

reef patrol
#

Fallback.

wheat plume
#

o?

reef patrol
#

They are super cheap to add, and factory / office environments need them

reef tundra
#

Dont need fallback if it just works

wheat plume
#

ooohhhh

#

I find it hilarious how the shield around the wifi card said "Asus Wifi" on it

#

but its an intel wif card

#

FFS Asus

reef patrol
wheat plume
#

They also put Asus on the plastic antennea thing too

#

Im really fucing glad its an Intel wifi card though

Means I dont need to worry about that on Linux

reef tundra
#

go to the driver and rename it to THICCUMS WAVEINATOR 3.0000

wheat plume
#

XDD

#

I love you Waifi

#

its my Waifi card

reef tundra
#

The best postman

wheat plume
#

I may get a battery for my old PC and a cheap hard drive to revive it as a server

reef tundra
#

Give him alumaximum instead then

wheat plume
#

I love how the CPU box was really big but the CPU only took up one tiny sliver of it along the side

reef tundra
#

Got a spaceheater if you need one. Dont worry it heats very well

cursive summit
#

@wheat plume How's your PC?

wheat plume
#

idk, didnt have time to spend much on it ;-;

cursive summit
#

Oof

#

Tfw you buy a PC and don't use it

reef tundra
#

infrared

wheat plume
#

I only had time to setup the OS and play about 10 minutes of Minecraft

#

but HOLY SHIT ITS FAST

#

LIKE DAAYYUMMM

cursive summit
#

drop specs

reef tundra
#

I got the remote heating

#

ohhh, like the british tanks? Need that tea at 5

Asus Geforce GTX 1660 OC

So you went with 3600 and B550 as I can see

cursive summit

Corsair's RAM looks like a sailboat

wheat plume

oooh right

#

wow

cursive summit

Chucka chucka cuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck chuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck

wheat plume

Wait you went with 1660???

#

Not even 1660Ti?

#

Bruh

cursive summit
#

I am disappointed on massive proportions girl

wheat plume
#

I dont need it though

reef tundra
#

no its three warcriminals lining up to be shot for their usage of antimatter mortar shells on the raiding party in rimworld.

wheat plume
#

I can play Minecraft with extreme shaders at max graphics and 15 render distance well above 60FPS

#

and I love it

cursive summit
#

5700 is not even midrange

#

And sub-500

reef tundra
#

Sodium is coming, (shaders not included)

cursive summit
#

Ngl I always recommend that fucking card, cause it's so good lul

wheat plume
#

Yeah, imma use Optifine cause shaders and other things like dynamic lights

cursive summit
#

RX5700

#

Not XT

#

It's doing bits

reef tundra
#

I would recommend it if it was free

cursive summit
#

All cards are expensive as shit

#

But such is reality

reef tundra
#

i would sell it for 500

#

need that margin

cursive summit
#

@wheat plume I dare you to try to run SEUS on your rig

wheat plume
#

I need to disablel grub delay to see how fast the PC truly boots

#

@wheat plume I dare you to try to run SEUS on your rig
@cursive summit mmkay

#

I dont like SEUS tho

#

its too over powering

#

I like shaders that are subtle and colorful

#

thats why I like Sildur Vibrant so much

cursive summit
#

Not any kind of SEUS

#

SEUS PTGI

#

Run that

#

And we'll see

reef tundra
#

I dare you to run a cryptominer while running minesweeper on low priority

wheat plume
#

I cant, you need rtx for that

cursive summit
#

You don't

wheat plume
#

but its raytracing blobhyperthinkfast

cursive summit
#

PTGI runs software raytracing

wheat plume
#

oh

#

sounds laggy already

reef tundra
#

it does it in software

ashen spindle
#

this is why I hate nvidia rooREE RTX is not the invention of raytracing

cursive summit
#

My rig can't run SEUS on max lul

wheat plume
#

Yeah I know its not

cursive summit
#

Let alone PTGI lul

reef tundra
#

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE ARE A SCAM AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. all calculations done in hardware are doable with one instruction and that is insane. valve pls fix

cursive summit
#

What pisses me off about Mojang is that the fuckers aren't porting their shitty game from Java to C languages

#

Or any kind of language other than Java

reef tundra
#

C is bea

cursive summit
#

That runs like crap ๐Ÿ˜„

reef tundra
#

cus they send pictures of hardware and just push a driver instead before ? lul

#

But can it do this

cursive summit
#

@wheat plume You need PTGI?

#

Or you bought it?

wheat plume
#

I have to wait for tomorrow night

#

cause my PC at my student house

reef tundra
#

Raytracing in not new in the redering world. Mostly in software as gpu shader(or cpu lol). But now they do it in hardware instead

wheat plume
#

true

#

AYY HE USED LINUX FOR THE PYRAMID PC

reef tundra

cus the matrix multiplications are very computational expensive tho

wheat plume

Ubuntu gamepack
oh ๐Ÿคฎ

reef tundra

ubuntu? it still alive? thought it lost its pulse years ago

wheat plume

its alive by sheer amounts of users

wheat plume

im a sucker for P O R T S
LGR 2020

#

I need to figure out if I need to take my pc apart more than I have to so that I can pull out a power cable for the drive slot or not

reef tundra
#

But that is not the apple way. the apple way is to be brave and remove all ports and sell it back as adapters

wheat plume
#

yeah....

ashen spindle

idk, most linux results I get on google are for ubuntu so I use ubuntu for my server so I dont spend ages trying to find what I need ยฏ_(ใƒ„)_/ยฏ

ashen spindle
#

though I get the feeling with how jim reacts allergic to everything we get more drama when zen/rdna releases come around lmao

reef patrol
#

Yeah he has thin skin and loves to accuse people blindly. Not a great way to avoid drama ๐Ÿ˜„

ashen spindle
#

yeah... if you start an argument and then pull the "racism" card from a star trek reference... I kinda dont expect much from you lmao

thick elk
#

wait racism and star trek reference, I really don't seem to follow drama much

#

or twitter for that matter.

ashen spindle
#

so basically there was something like "we need more power" quote used, which comes from "scotty, we need more power" in the original start trek series, and scotty comes from scottland, like jim does apparently

#

and he understood it as a slap against him being scottish

#

no I dont think that makes sense

thick elk
#

Hmm weird, I still enjoy his video's though. I would never take them as objective but he does have some interesting insights at times.

#

I also read their site for a bit but man that Matthew guy who writes a lot there really does not know what he is talking about.

ashen spindle
#

havent seen a single video of him lmao I just know about him bc he appears in twitter convos

#

mostly because of matthew and jim defending him lmao

thick elk
#

Matthew is just a combination of ignorant and arrogant, maybe he will grow over it but as it stands oof.

ashen spindle
#

you shouldn't get a huge ego if most of your pieces are leaks (aka writing what other people tell you), not like they are top tier writing skills used to convey the info

thick elk
#

I remember a comment I made about an article that talked about a security exploit which was basically just that locked intel cpu's can be overvolted and not only undervolted and that this could potentially harm hardware.
He did not take it well even went to call it out again on their potcast.
I basically asked if I was missing something as I didn't see how a know feature that existed for a vey long time, is not exclusive to intel and is more restricted than whats allowed on unlocked processors is a security exploit.

ashen spindle
#

lmao that does sound like something I can easily imagine in my head

ashen spindle
#

ah yeah I remember that thing

#

like sure, you have some social/networking skills to get people to talk to you, but that's not that hard if you make it your focus, that article isn't really detailed on any aspect and leaves a lot of questions open

#

like if this was first found by anandtech, this would be like a 3-6 page article by Ian detailing it way more than anyone would ever ask for lmao

thick elk
#

Plundervolt was covered by anandtech, which is an actual exploit, this is just a way you can sabotage cpu's.

#

I can't remember an anandtech article about overvolting

ashen spindle
#

dont think there is one ye

thick elk
#

Because it's not worthwile and potentially damaging cpu's is not at all interesting for hackers because that's about all you can do with this. It's also been known to be possible for a very long time.

ashen spindle
#

we obv never know what exactly steve talked about mat being a detriment to jim, but regardless how he worded it, it was probably accurate lul

thick elk
#

I do think so, didn't know that was the argument but yea Matthew should just stick to tomshardware, he sure does fit in there.

ashen spindle
#

nah it was just mentioned during it by mat

#

sounds like someone salty bc steve dm'd him something like "hey look, it works on our channel, your stuff isn't getting as many views so it seems to be the wrong approach"

#

cba finding the other tweets related to it

crimson wigeon
#

So what exactly is the reason for the drama

ashen spindle
#

very thin skinned guy got mad when other guy didn't just take accusations without defending

#

think it started with steve saying the 3080/ampere has some actual value if you compare it with other things on the market, and jim taking that a shilling

thick elk
#

From my perspective to sum it up: Jim made a video about how ampere was nvidia's second worst generational leap based of the 3090.
He felt attacked by a part of a video hardware unboxed made after that.
Called steve a shill on twitter, Jim later admitted he was overreacting and should not have said what he did and that's about it.
In the middle Matthew made a stupid comment backed by Jim (for some reason).

All I gathered from this is Jim has issues and tends to overreact, matthew is an idiot and all got resolved in the end.

ashen spindle
crimson wigeon
#

Yikes

thick elk
#

This was in response to a video Jim made and probably one coreteks (never watch his stuff) made as well

ashen spindle
#

nah I think core just commented on a graphic from jims video from what I understand

thick elk
#

Ah, fair enough.

pliant shard
#

jim who

#

nvidia advertised the 3090 as not just a titan card and got punished for it

pliant shard
#

pretty sure it started with nvidia and them paying people to say that

#

oh wait you said titan

#

no, no one thought that

#

maybe some whale gamers bought titans to do it but

#

a lot of people who make their money off of social aspects tend not to be the brightest

#

twitch, twitter

#

certain half of youtube

#

instagram

#

intelligence not essential

#

cunning, maybe

#

but the 3090 is egregious

#

nvidia easily could've thrown in something before or after the 3080 ti

#

i guess 3080 3080 ti 3080 20gb

#

the worst part about SLI is people using it after 600 series

#

literally free money for nvidia

#

not only are game devs arguably lazier now, but they have more on their plates with stuff like dx12

#

so they have an end and a means to their fuckery

#

actually that's the thing

#

dlss, rtx i/o

#

require additional effort by the game dev

#

they can't even release a complete game on time or 3 years after release

#

rtx i/o i think can eventually be easier and easier to implement

#

i don't know about DLSS

#

that's good

#

that's great actually

#

but

#

that's only newish games that has it

#

and how many newish games actually have it

#

it'll help you drive r6s on ultrawide i guess

#

but most people are doing random shit like running the game on 4:3 and minimum settings anyway

#

and not just because they need the performance

crisp granite
#

people are weird

#

high level fps gaymers it's very common
@prisma crag you pulled a funny

pliant shard
#

hmm

#

do low res cpu bottlenecks only affect super high refresh rates or will a very demanding game even at a low resolution get bottlenecked too?

#

when i ask this i'm regarding 3080 and like and at 1080 or 1440p

#

standard width

#

i'd imagine

#

but it's something i've heard

#

and why the gains aren't amazing at non 4k resolutions

#

and i wonder if it's just because it's harder to push above say 144 fps or the gains in general will be that way

pliant shard
#

hmm

#

did they say they're fixing memory oc in zen 3

forest sphinx
#

Opinions on 1440p 144hz vs 1080p 240 hz?

pliant shard
#

i'm on 1440p165

#

i got a dell panel that was memed around a while ago

#

TN. there are ips options around now that won't break the bank

#

i think 1440p is optimal for everything other than gaming or when using a size above 24"

forest sphinx
#

Okay. I'm torn between asus VG27AQ and ViewSonic ELITE XG270

#

I guess I'm torn on how much of a difference the extra resolution will really make for me

#

compared to the extreme motion smoothness of the other monitor

pliant shard
#

the specs seem similar other than resolution and refresh rate

#

and maybe gimmick offerings

forest sphinx
#

The XG270 is blur busters certed

pliant shard
#

yeah the uh

#

backlight strobing

#

my dell can do that, but only at 120hz

forest sphinx
#

I've heard different people feel different about it

#

But as far as motion clarity

pliant shard
#

if you're particularly sensitive it can cause headaches

#

as can electric lights, crt and friend tvs

forest sphinx
#

people seem to agree that the xg 270 is good

#

I don't seem to have any issues with that

#

sometimes really shitty flickery fluorescent will fuck with me

#

but thats it

pliant shard
#

if you care about motion blur i wonder if the asus TUF's backlight strobing only runs at 120hz

forest sphinx
#

People have said that the strobing effect can be real bad on that monitor, but then other people swear by it

#

others have had persistance issues with the panel, but those seem like 1 off cases

pliant shard
#

it seems like

#

the 1440p does blacks better

#

has a bit lower picture quality

#

motion blur reduction

#

dunno they're pretty different

3080 TUF order finally officially confirmed. Still no delivery date.

Late October here we come!

wheat plume

Is coil whine that you can hear quite clearly normal?
I'm sitting just beside the computer and I can hear the whine

reef patrol
#

Sometimes, yes.

wheat plume
#

Ah

#

Its annoying me....

reef patrol
#

You will always have coil whine - Whether or not you can hear it is... more random.

#

Two identical graphics cards can have slightly different whine ranges.

wheat plume
#

I'm sensitive to high pitch noises

reef patrol
#

Sometimes you only hear it at max load, sometimes only at 49,5% load.

wheat plume
#

I hear them better than anything else

#

Welp ;_

#

Oh... But there's a chance!

reef patrol
#

Yup. Luck of the draw - And outside of those 14 day returns, most dealers don't offer swaps.

Because they don't consider them faults.

wheat plume
#

This is without playingg a game

tender sparrow

650W not being enough kills it for me

650W not being enough kills it for me
@tender sparrow Swapped to my 750W Titanium PSU for it ๐Ÿ˜„

wheat plume

wheat plume

I trust him

tender sparrow

I'll probably just buy the 3060

Since that's apparently equivalent to a Titan

reef patrol
#

Gotta get that 1440p 144fps. And my 2080 just ain't doing that ๐Ÿ˜„

ashen spindle
#

I mean you can also just trust yourself, figure out where the sound comes from and compare it to an example sound on youtube

#

after all changing gpu voltage won't matter if it's from the PSU

wheat plume
#

I need to figure out how to connect a sata hard drive later tonight

#

And an ssd

ashen spindle
#

well, then you can take that moment and listen to where it's coming from ๐Ÿ™‚

wheat plume
#

Yep

#

Idk where the slot is

reef patrol
#

For SATA you need to use the cables from the motherboard box.

wheat plume
#

My friend hid all the unused cables behind the frame

#

The PSU cables

reef patrol
wheat plume
#

Its scaring me that the gpu just gets held in place by the side and the back
The other two sides are just hovering in the air and I can see it sagging very slightly

ashen spindle
#

or if there is already a sata drive connected, that cable probably has more adapters for more drivers

reef patrol
#

Sagging is quite normal.

wheat plume

I know

pliant shard
#

it was a pain

#

and i don't even have a tight case

old marlin
#

also corsair copied the mounting system

pliant shard
#

and on top of that

old marlin
#

just like everyone else

pliant shard
#

the aft fan had to sit up a bit more than the other

old marlin
#

not even better execution

pliant shard
#

because of clearance

old marlin
#

and while their fan mount is easy to use

reef patrol
#

Copied? I don't recall a single cooler where you slide on the fans lul

old marlin
#

it wastes a ton of space

reef patrol
#

It does.

old marlin
#

I had no problems getting fans on my NH-D15

reef patrol
#

Definitely room for improvement there. My A500 ended up in my cousin's PC without the top cover. Just barely fit the case.

old marlin
#

performance of it is completely shit as well

#

considering the price and size

reef patrol
#

Mine was just fine.

#

They had some issues with the coldplate at launch.

old marlin
#

yup

#

also afaik a lot of reviewers only tested on intel

reef patrol
#

The biggest waste of space is honestly the core, not the fans as such.

old marlin
#

but it performs worse on AMD

#

well the core is the price

#

imo

#

100 Euros/dollars is just way too much for the performance

reef patrol
#

No... The literal void in the core of it

old marlin
#

oh you meant for cooling potential

#

well yea

pliant shard
#

getting amd

cursive summit
#

Lads are modular PSUs basically what we call a PSU with detachable cables?

reef patrol
#

Yep

old marlin
#

thye just cut out a third of their cooling surface

cursive summit
#

Worth paying extra? @reef patrol

pliant shard
#

how much extra even is it

reef patrol
#

I think so, but I also have plenty of cables in the back as is.

old marlin
#

if you want a decent PSU it is basically always a modular one nowadays

cursive summit
#

Ehh depends, usually 20-30% more if not higher

old marlin
pliant shard
#

i guess it is a lot

reef patrol
#

It all adds up with 8 RGB fans and controllers ๐Ÿ˜…

old marlin
#

a decent psu pays off

pliant shard
#

$80 minimum for a modular seems off

cursive summit
#

I mean we are talking 20% on top of like 50โ‚ฌ non-modular

pliant shard
#

you can get some really fucked up non modular psus for less than 50 yuros

cursive summit
#

Not that much

old marlin
#

wtf are you planning on getting

cursive summit
#

I bought a Thermaltake 700W for 40โ‚ฌ

old marlin
cursive summit
#

Non modular

#

Held up for 3 years now

old marlin
#

3 years is nothing for a psu

pliant shard
#

can you get a gold rated non modular?

old marlin
#

my previous one had 10 years warranty

#

yup

pliant shard
#

semi modular. close enough

old marlin
#

seasonic focus

cursive summit
#

My Corsair 450W exploded after like 4 years

old marlin
#

imo

pliant shard
#

exploded

#

cursive summit
#

Literally

old marlin
#

watt does not mean quality

pale sigil
#

Seasonic is overrated

old marlin
#

seasonic is the easiest bet to go for though

cursive summit
#

Flash, fire, smoke, electricity goes off

pliant shard
#

you can get a titanium at 600W

cursive summit
#

PSU exploded

pliant shard
#

as well as 1600W

old marlin
#

@pliant shard titanium does not mean quality

reef patrol
#

Seasonic is overrated
@pale sigil lolno

pale sigil
#

Q tech is where itโ€™s at

cursive summit
#

He thinks Titanium is one of those classifiers 80+

old marlin
#

yea

#

it is

#

but it does not equal quality

#

just efficiency

reef patrol
#

It often indirectly implies a certain level of quality though.

old marlin
#

warranty is a lot better indicator of quality than an 80+ rating tbh

pale sigil
#

For real though I think seasonic is incredibly overrated and tbh you donโ€™t have to buy directly off seasonic for their components anyway

cursive summit
#

You and your shitty Western brands

Don't sleep on Great Wall, they are actually not bad

old marlin

great wall does some low end corsair stuff

#

and the wallmart gaming PC psu and cases KEKW

pale sigil
#

Jokes aside

#

I honestly am serious when I say seasonic is overrated

old marlin
#

they aren't

#

other ones are just underappreciated

cursive summit
#

Isn't Corsair mega overrated?

old marlin
#

not really tbh

pale sigil
#

Itโ€™s like its own tax even though other psus use their components at less

old marlin
#

corsair has a lot of solid stuff

#

people sleep on superflower

reef patrol
#

Corsair make terrible PSUs in the cheap end for sure.

cursive summit
#

Dunno my Thermaltake has been doing good, I might try them out again

old marlin
#

cheap end is greatwall KEKW

pale sigil
#

Some Corsair psus use seasonic parrโ€™s

#

Parts

reef patrol
#

I think we had like a ... 30-40% return on the VS550

#

Yes. A third to a half of them died within warranty.

pale sigil
#

Also my Corsair psu lasted me 6 years

#

Still works

#

Proud of that little bugger

pliant shard
#

hmm

#

i had a toshiba hdd that's lasted me a looooooong time

#

i've also had a seagate that failed 3 months in

old marlin
pliant shard
#

also

#

great wall is chicom

cursive summit
#

I confused myself, my current PSU is SilverStone

#

It's doing great

pliant shard
#

no?

cursive summit
#

Dunno my 700W Silverstone loves to coil whine

#

Until you slap the case

#

Then he's a good boy

pliant shard
#

also

#

psu warranties rarely go beyond 10 years

#

unless quality hits a hard cap?

#

that was a rhetorical question

#

it doesn't

#

fanless

cursive summit
#

Lifetime warranty ftw

pliant shard
#

i have non computer fans on half of the year, doesn't really matter how much my fans go at now

#

raidmax offers a 12 year warranty but more popular brands do a 10 year

#

also

#

your psu fan is the furthest away from you, no?

pale sigil
#

EVGA PSUs is where irs at

pliant shard
#

hm

#

i have a 1070 ti from them

#

their software is trash and i'm pretty sure i can't control both fans with afterburner

pale sigil
#

Wot

#

Their software isnโ€™t that bad

pliant shard
#

i have a fucking massive full case

#

evga precision xoc is hard trash

pale sigil
#

Itโ€™s not that bad XD

#

Whenโ€™s the last time you used it

pliant shard

every time i start my computer it runs

i have an msi motherboard

I have a dell motherboard

pale sigil

I ainโ€™t denying afterburner is better tho

old marlin
#

real nice fucker

#

actually not as bad as I expected it top be tbh

#

calptop experience so far has been good

pliant shard

i'd like all my hardware-software interaction requirements to be run once never touch

for what?

#

what does my mouse need a gigabyte of storage for

pale sigil

Haha I have a hate love relationship with ghub

pliant shard
#

i have only a hate relationship

#

it's awful

#

i need to keep it running to use macros

pale sigil

But itโ€™s because mice donโ€™t have much on board storage

#

I feel feel you on that

pliant shard
#

mice are going for what

#

$90 now?

pale sigil
#

Really do

pliant shard
#

they can afford a little bit of storage

#

yeah i'll buy a $300 mouse when they make them in america

pale sigil
#

Itโ€™s why I love my wooting so much, I rarely ever open wootikity

pliant shard
#

i don't know what marketing yuppie ass clown got the idea to market the card above the 3080 as a 3090 and as a gaming gpu

pale sigil
#

Easy

#

Market was desperate for a change and they knew it

pliant shard
#

maybe that really is the fault of whales and twitch streamers

#

haha titan look at it go zoooom

pale sigil
#

And they knew people were so desperate that even 10% would sell

pliant shard
#

so desperate after 2000 series and amd left them feeling a bit burned

#

even LTT needed to take the marketing money

pale sigil
#

Money go brrr

pliant shard

it's like you take off the clown mask

Question

#

are Ryzen x570 boards already ready for the 5000 series?

ashen spindle
#

depends, some have bios update some not yet

pale sigil
#

lost a bet

ashen spindle
ashen spindle
#

well yeah they all will work obviously

pale sigil

So like would he be able to put the new cpu in and update?

ashen spindle
#

that one depends

pale sigil
#

Damn i prob owe him a mcdonalds now.

ashen spindle
#

some boards you can flash with no cpu, some require a supported cpu to be in socket etc

ashen spindle
#

what did you bet

pale sigil
#

i assumed they would work with zen 3 out of the box

#

as pretty much its stated

ashen spindle
#

??????

pale sigil
#

on a x570

ashen spindle
#

yeah ofc not

pale sigil
#

I mean

#

it says x570 is zen 3

ashen spindle
#

yes the chipset will be able to support it

reef patrol
#

The CPUs didn't even exist on paper back then.

#

Even if they are the same architecture each cpuID has to be patched in.

ashen spindle

but without a proper bios a total ammount of 0 cpus will work on it

reef patrol

Along with micropatches

pale sigil

ashen spindle

are SFTP and FTP just related by name or how come I can just use SFTP but need to set up FTP to transfer files with it on my VM? thonk

thick elk
#

SFTP has nothing to do with ftp and is based on SSH

ashen spindle
#

urghh guessed it but didnt want it to be true lmao

thick elk
#

There is FTPS which is ftp with ssl but generally ftp is just an old protocol that really needs to die some day

ashen spindle
#

the issue is I can't use sftp bc I want to make some batch files to automate the moving of files

#

and from what I see batch doesnt work with sftp

thick elk
#

I don't know much about windows command line stuff but I am sure there are ways to automate over ssh maybe a command line rsync client for windows

#

or run it through subsystem linux.

ashen spindle
#

yeah I wanted to keep it simple not involve a dozen other programs lmao

thick elk
#

either way you have to install something. be it an ftp client on your vm or something to use sftp or rsync on your windows machine.

ashen spindle
#

think I'll go with vsftpd since I have a site for that open now lmao

thick elk
#

In general though rsync as a protecol is best for this

ashen spindle
#

meh it sounds nice but I'd rather not put more stuff on my window machine just for that

#

but thanks

cursive summit

Looks like some interesting stuff is coming

#

Infinity Cache has been known in rumours, it'll be a big selling point for Zen 3 apparently

ashen spindle

erm

rdna2 you mean :p

#

or rdna 3 more likely even

cursive summit
#

Zen 3 is rumoured to also have some weird shit with cache

ashen spindle

but zen 3 is a cpu

#

what do you want with something that mentions it is for interconnect in a gpu there lol

#

we already know frontier (or was it el capitaine ?) will use both amd cpus and gpus in a CXL interconnect so those are all part of getting to that point

twitch drops is nothing new, but I dont think we had any rgb stuff interaction till now?

ripe anvil
#

Maybe in the PSU, I have seen those before.

wheat plume
#

oh?

ashen spindle
#

if you can be a bit more specific that would help a lot

#

could literally just be the lan cable

wheat plume
#

its near the bottom of the motherboard

#

unless this thing has an optical out but i dont think it does

ashen spindle
#

have you checked the motherbaord manual if it has any lights in that area

ripe anvil
#

That's some sort of io light, used to be common on laptops (I think).

wheat plume
#

yeah, I must

The motherboard has spdif port

could that be it?

ashen spindle

idk, just look if it has led's there

wheat plume

why does it say the wifi antennea needs to be 20CM from anyone?

it would be nice to be able to turn off mobo LEDs

just turn it all off

but can you ctrl+f your paper book

pliant shard

i dunno i looked in bios

but can you ctrl+f half of the pdfs that exist

#

not really

#

these days you can

ashen spindle
#

yes I'm not talking about 10 years ago :p

wheat plume
#

o, you can update the BIOS without needing and OS specific tools

#

just plug a USB with the new BIOS in and boot to BIOS and install it

ripe anvil
#

why does it say the wifi antennea needs to be 20CM from anyone?
Because radiation limits are really strict (in Europe at least).

#

Do you think that a 3070 could get max frames on ultra settings on a 240hz monitor?

ivory geyser
#

In what game?

forest sphinx
#

well I haven't upgraded in like 6 years, and so I'm planning to upgrade with all this new hardware releasing so that I can play cyberpunk on max cause I'm hype

#

also the monitor would be 1080p

#

thats why I think I might be able to do it

ashen spindle
#

depends on the cpu, just watch the reviews when the card comes out

forest sphinx
#

Yeah thats fair

#

I don't mind waiting a bit longer

ashen spindle
#

sadly our stock of crystall balls to see the future ran out :p

forest sphinx
#

tho my hardware is pretty old now

#

im sitting on that sweet i7-4770 and gtx 770

wheat plume
#

Thats older than my old pc :O
but better CPU actually

forest sphinx
#

Yeah, its not a -k either so no overclocking for even a bit of increased performance sadly

wheat plume
#

I had a 4th gen i5 and a gtx 860M

forest sphinx
#

ah yeah.

#

Yeah I pulled the trigger on the new monitor yesterday, I do like that smooth high refresh rate goodness, so I opted for that over more resolution at the price point I was looking at

#

but I figured if the resolution was lower I might be able to get away with a cheaper card

#

and still maybe hit the 240fps mark on ultra settings

reef tundra
#

Remember to set the refreshrate in the settings

forest sphinx
#

The new monitor hasn't arrived yet

#

I'm going to try it when it gets here and see how much my 770 screams

#

but I guess I'll just wait on the benchmarks and see ๐Ÿ˜›

#

I'm excited to see those new zen 3 cpus in a few days

#

Performance rumors seem juicy so far

forest sphinx
#

my ram is ddr3 666 mhz

#

and my mobo is a z97-A I think?

#

asus

#

so yeah its probs about time

#

I never did any incremental upgrades

forest sphinx
#

I just wanna see full frames on the monitor haha

#

A buttery smooth 200-220 would be real nice

#

I'm not super concerned about resolution tbh

#

The fact that there were 60" 1080p tvs that people were satisfied with tells me that a 27" screen with a same res shouldn't be bad

#

thats why i bought for higher refresh instead of 1440p

#

but I'm hoping that also allows me to maaaaybe buy a worse gpu and save some money

#

yeah I saw that too. I looked at 27" 1080p monitors in person though at a microcenter up close, the resolution did not bother me

#

no I just watched some 1080p youtube vids on a 1080p monitor full screen

#

It was fine

#

for me at least

#

It won't really be a work monitor for the most part

#

I do some work on it but usually that is done elsewhere

#

but yeah thatd probs be a good test too

#

I'm pretty sure I wont mind

#

I will be replacing a 60hz 1080p that is 23 inches

#

I dont know if there is a good way to hook up both monitors such that the 60hz does not affect the 240hz

#

Yeah 100%

#

Then I'd definitely be looking 1440p

#

but I actually think that bigger than 27" might be too big

#

My eyes can only look at so much

#

And I don't really care about peripheral vision or else I mighta looked at ultrawides

#

which, i did look at a bit

#

but I did not find I enjoyed it that much

#

itd be great for work I think

#

but not for gaming

#

What kind of monitor are you looking for optimally?

#

Like, if you COULD find something else

forest sphinx
#

ahh okay

#

yeah I went with this:

#

I believe it also uses the auo ips panel

forest sphinx
#

Yeah. Its the blur busters approved monitor, and all the motion tests I've seen of it do look quite good

#

so it should be good

#

albeit a bit lower resolution than the other options I was looking at, but I think its still worth

#

I guess I'll see when it arrives in a few weeks though, if my 770 can even push it to max frames. I'll have to find the right type of game to test it. Maybe league on ultra low settings.

pliant shard
#

yeah

mighty otter
#

@forest sphinx Try L4D2

#

It's cheap and I get 144 with no slowdowns with a GTX 1080

#

I know that's a beefy card, but I'm sure you could get similar with a 770 with lower settings

#

It's pretty well optimized

forest sphinx
#

Ah okay

#

I could do l4d2

#

or league

#

either way

#

I'll give them both a try when it arrives

do you use more than your 16gb ram

wheat plume

doubt it

its usually at 4GB

ashen spindle

so why would you need it

wheat plume

but idk what when playing games

on my old computer, I saw swap being used before even when ram wasnt fully used

it was using like 1% of swap or whatever

ashen spindle

then again, idk how its used in linux

I set swappiness to 10 so it will not try to use it as easily

Essentially, in one page, I am having a POST query in a form for a random text. It sends it into another calculations page.

#

There the whole text, in a single $string, is str_splitted to symbols

#

But sizeof() tells me the array size is 1

#

When it theory it should be several hundred symbols

spiral belfry
#

are you doing sizeof with the $_POST var or with the $_POST["form-input-name"]

#

because if its the first, yes it will return 1, as its 1 array

cursive summit
#

I need to get discord for this VM ๐Ÿ˜„

#

Hard to explain in words

spiral belfry
#

And why are you using sizeof($var) for a string? strlen($var) is better for strings

my friend: uses Manjaro
also friend: install all software using flatpak and complains why none of the apps match his theme

thick elk
#

There are ways to make it work with flatpak

#

Generally though flatpak is not something you should use on arch or manjaro for most things

@ashen spindle I do PHP, Darrell loves JS.... for some stupid reason XD

cursive summit
#

Basically it's supposed to be a shit ton of symbols

#

But the echo sizeof() is reporting it to be the size of 1

ashen spindle
