if they were to redo skylinies with the newly added DOTS features it would handle a lot more, and again, the stuff that is resource intensive in skylinies is not what a mmo would hit the most
Could you rip out enough core components from Unity and make it work? Sure. But is it Unity at that point then?
Most Unity games I know the developers, do nothing but rant about needing to essentially blow up Unity and rebuild it using third party solutions even for simple things.
Same
do you know if they use DOTS/ECS for pantheon? @fickle ore
Though a lot of ones I know have huge boners for Unreal in general
@ashen spindle When was that added?
I didnt ask if they started with it, it was added fairly recently
Sry don't know, how could one spot it?
only if the devs talk about it
not via watching how many cores/threads a processor uses?
nope
I'll ask around..
bc I could see them, being a big game that makes use of it and unity thus developing it with them in tandem for example
Could be. They have hinted Unity helping them in some aspects
dont think any big games has yet made use of it, so it would also be very good pr for unity
All I want is the new framerate-independant input system added, so I can play with highest graphic setting and still get responsive keyboard input for combat

#DDR4 #O...
didnt watch but I guess thats DR at 5k cl18 :p
oh wow nevermind, it's 16gb single rank sticks
Well you did comment about 2x 16gb not being single rank. So there is that.
didnt know they made SR that big now
I was thinking it may exist but I was to lazy to look it up.
Makes sence though 8gb sr has existed for quite some time and tech does move forward on this front as well.
I just didnt expect them to put it into existance with DDR4, thought that would be a ddr5 release thing
DDR5 is still some time away for even major server adoption so It makes sense from that perspective
some time? both intel and amd putting it out next year
Oh yea, time moves fast
fuck steelseries
the amount of solder they put on the micro usb port in arctis 7 is just unacceptable
no wonder the port on mine started working only in a certain position
The real crime in that sentence is Micro-USB
maybe im gonna uninstall windows 2004 update
or atleast rollback defender. it identified a torrent as a trojan, which in my windows 7 experience wasnt a good experience
anyone remember that time when microsoft shortly declared war on illegal downloading? god, i hated that period
Better just disable it entirely
They never stopped.
If you as much as think about having KMS software on your PC, Defender acts like it's a nuclear device. It goes into full panic mode.
@fickle ore is that moue actually even available now or is it already gone or not released yet
@frozen anchor fall shipping ;I>
weird that theres so little info about this except that
While the video was fine I still don't like the idea of look at old videocards in general being sponsored by Nvidia
so apparently there is a recommendation of a 850W psu for the up coming gpu'S?
god old gpus are so ugly
Noone had a window in their case so why bother, it fit the rest of the pc nicely
why pay 1400 for a 3090 when you can just build your own gpu
so apparently there is a recommendation of a 850W psu for the up coming gpu'S?
@urban lynx the 12 pin from seasonic shows that text, but it's more likely to be related to using it with an 850W psu to guarantee stability or something, cable is only for seasonic psu's anyway
basically means nothing but with more and more amd fanboys crawling out of the woods, gotta make everything nvidia bad ofc
aka, we have no actualy news or leaks about it
The Seasonic cable definitely provides more power than a 3090 needs.
It's just a modular cable that happens to use the 12pin standard.
"standard" lul
😄
Cable not designed for 3090 as much as the 3090 is designed for 12pin, and they mention the PSU wattage like they usually do for the entire system assumption.
just a few more days
I wonder if nvidia is going to increase performance this generation and not just add things on top of their product stack like with the 2000 series.
@urban lynx 3090 will draw between 300W and 525W, probably high 300s is my guess (if single GPU)
https://twitter.com/ryanshrout/status/1297937233958375424 tiger lake news day after ampere? nice
too bad its only mobile parts
It does look at least somewhat promissing.
sure, I just really dont care about laptops lmao
I have my doubts it can keep up with Renoir
Mine is still on skylake 1.0 so yea, laptops are not my focus either.
Particularly with how flexible it is
@zenith sonnet 300 shoukd be managable to me 🤔
guess i'll wait till end of sep. though. at least
From the leaks it does seem intel possibly gets to parity on the gpu and wins again in less threaded workloads. vs zen3
It could also be a dual GPU card. Haven't seen many in recent years, but it's a '90...
thankfully for intel the laptop chips are a bit behind on amd's side, so they will compete with renoir in the laptop space even when zen3 is out
and tgl will beat renoir at least
it's just yield/scaling issues that prevents tgl to come to desktop
Just because it scales to 65w doesn't mean it's optimal at 65w
regardless intel will still be fighting 8 cores wit ha quad core. Even if it wins single threaded a bit it is still a tough sell.
And probably 100% higher prices
4 cores? I dont remember any recent leaks about core counts for tgl
official intel slide: https://images.idgesg.net/images/article/2019/05/2019-05-08-33-100795892-orig.jpg
not even a leak or anything
... thats ice lake
derp wrong image
lol
8 cores at 65W at a later date is what I'm able to find
ye from the hot chips talk it looks like tgl-h will have 8 cores but they might first only launch -u with up to 4?
4 cores is all one needs
As far as I know intel didn't talk about more then 4 cores for the u series chips I assume they would hint about that at least.
yeah the u series wont get more than 4, 8 will be -H
but 8 cores at 15W also wouldn't make much sense
for zen 3 it does because a single core works rather well at those power levels.
zen2 you mean, and thats more of a byproduct of the chiplet design
derp yea
Guesses on GPU prices to come?
no guess exist and wont till release
I mean there is speculating and leaking and then there is random guessing
3 dollars take it or leave it
Generally prices are finalized as late as possible.
Of course there will be a ballpark figure but it's mostly based on what the competition is doing / demand.
god I wish I could get big navi with nvidia drivers
if 3060 is higher than 400$ fuck it im gona go amd
is that 400 before or after tax
with tax im eu bro
how tf am I supposed to know if you use $
As a linux user I would not mind ampere with amd drivers, wanna trade.
.$€£
I don't care about cuda and amd linux drivers being mainlined are pretty stable as far as I know.
Anyway I think people hold too much value in the name Nvidia gives the card.
yeah it works on linux bx there it's not amd itself making the drivers
they do develop a large part of it but they don't have to deal with cleaning up their mess with driver updates.
generally the update mechanism is assumed to be a large cause of issues.
Yes, Titans
lel
Anyway I still think it's kind of stupid to just look at 1070 = 2070 when in reality the 2070 was a replacement for the 1080 in terms of price.
To me the best way to look at things would be the current € 500 nvidia card vs the new € 500 nvidia card and so forth.
It's not like people will suddenly spend a lot more on a gpu. 300-400 is still on the higher side for the average buyer. Or I at least hope they won't suddenly spend a lot more just because the name changed.
dual 3080tis here i come
Quadro if you dont like having money
for a consumer choice you should look at the price, from a pure tech point you should look at what die type it is (104,106 etc.)
what do you mean higher pricing, that was all 4d chess obviously /s
god I hope I wont see bullshit like that again
but even the die can be missleading, if they decide a more costly die is worth it because there is demand outside of enterprise even these can move down.
I must admit that there is value in looking at the most expensive thing as well but when comparing further down the stack price for price is a better measure.
4D? I am playing 5D chess
sure but usually only adds a suffix to the die nomenclature or similar, doesnt usually move the stack, so for comparing it from a tech point its usually still the best choice
tech point = youre not looking at it to decide to buy it but actually just for tech is what I mean
also my gpu seems to start having issue so I guess perfect time to upgrade lmao
sometimes after gaming for a while I get a total freeze, doesnt happen if I open afterburner and set my OC profile
I undervolted it and upped the fan curve so I assume either of that "fixes" it
My last upgrade was because my 7950 died after a 5 year overclock at the max voltage afterburner would allow
heh thats a good lifetime for that much voltage
28nm could handle quite a bit, I did have very minor degredation over time lowering the clocks a little bit.
also I wonder if you can easily view who booked wafers at TSMC, I wonder if next year we get ampere super cards that are on tsmc and not samsung so the supers would be actually a nice upgrade potentally, at least in efficency
or if we get hopper next year already with amd putting on pressure
I think nvidia is banking on having a sweet deal with samsung quite a bit but we shall see.
sure, and I assume if by then SS has a better option they might take that, but if not and we dont get hopper, I could see them going away from SS at least for a bit, to bridge the gap till hopper and have a better look vs amd
I just hope we see decent prices and an update to gforce experience that it no longer needs a login lmao
oh, also till we then get the first reviews I am also eager to go though the leak twitter and make fun of the youtubers that just posted bullshit
wonder when we will get to know what that part is
RE: Prices
I really dont want a 3060 😦
if it wasn't for the fact i upgraded to 1440p i would have kept my 1070ti a year or two more
so this time around i wanna go full on so i dont have to worry for much
but once again, that makes no sense to say xD we dont know the specs for the names, what if a 3060 also gets a lot of vram and is ideal for 1440p etc. the 60 might not be much worse than a 70 or whatever
i dont have much faith
imo you should wait for big navi anyway and not get a gpu next month
good
ill get one when i can get my entire build prob Jan
Wot
why
🤷♂️ i dont play consoles so to me it seems bizare to want one
i considered getting one to sell at a large price
I have a PS4
but i bought it when god of war came out 😄
why
if it aint broke dont fix it
i love the controller
tbh
so much
Size wise and coating wise the Xbox controller is still great but yeah feature wise not so much
Tho couldn't care less for rumble I turn that off instantly but having buttons that don't drift after a while would be nice
Does anyone know if switch films fit into the wooting flaretechs? Im thinking about getting a wooting one and modding the hell outa it, just trying to see if theres any problems with the switch and switch films. (like if the prism gets in the way or other stuff like that)
I didnt manage to get films in them.
doubt you need films
But I had some second-hand 3D printed ones - genuine films might fit better.
But frankly, they are quite tight as they are.
I agree with Kuuube here.
oh, ok ok. Thanks!
Im also gonna put an SA keycap set on it, so I hope the low profile doesnt make people want to kill me
xD
Hey man, it is your keeb! :D
did you just say SA and low profile in the same sentence? that is illegal
I know... and I cant wait to break the law @frozen anchor
but not gonna lie, gmk's look pretttty nice on the wooting on ngl

I'm questioning my life choices right now
Routines to turn my fan on +/off every 15-30 min
I'm curious to see what CTR can do for my 3700X
Haven't looked into how it works, but my guess is that it's just some advanced automatic undervolting that tries to find the lowest voltage without triggering clock stretching
And any reported performance gains are simply due to the fact that Zen 2 boosts higher and higher the cooler it gets
And maybe freeing up power when it hits a power wall
what's CTR?
I wish all IDEs had this features, it tells you everywhere a method is called from
hey you're finally starting to make use of visual studio features, nice
yeah, I had to use this to cleanup code that was created by accidently double clicking labels and boxes and whatnot in the designer xd
Would this be considered hard coding?
im using this to fill up a combobox in another class
uhh sorta yea
wut
I have a database table with all the counties in Ireland so that I can use that to fill in the combo boxes in the update and add member forms so you can select what county you are from
Ill need to do the same for the statuses too :/
and now ill need to add all this to the document :/ add a new diagram for the new table and include it in the DFD diagrams and relational schema
UGH -.- this project is stupid
IS STATUS A KEYWORD IN SQL???!!!
Ngl, adding such things to DB sounds like an overkill to me
yeh
it is -.-
cause they will NEVER CHANGE
but she doesnt want hard coding
so this is the only solution to that
I even have a database table for counties
What is a country changes its name?
pycharm has that feature too, ctrl + b
countries change more often than you think
but.. lets not start about timezones
Like for real, my country changed its official international name like... a year ago.
O.o
From Czech Republic to Czechia
ooohh
Things created by humans, change
Except for war, war never changes...
yes it does :p
I hate oracle DB, your username and password to ligin to the DB are in plain text
at least trying to connect using C# it is
most of the time with databases right?
I think that's the standard way of doing things, how else would you connect?
how is this the case?
(you would definitely put the address and login details in a separate config file and not have it in your code though)
this is the DBConnect class we made
yeah config file, fetched from env.. that kinda stuff
but thats usually more deployment stuff, for local dev this is fine for now :p
I mean, you somehow need to login obviously, and for a uni project it really doesnt matter that the pw is in the file and not a seperate .dll or something
Wouldn't it be more efficient to keep a single connection open and reuse that instead of making a new connection for every query
make a singleton!
O, I should have put all that into a method to call and pass the SQL query to
THat would have been smarter
instead of copying these lines each time
the only change is the SQL query
that function can keep some state, only reconnect when needed
it closes connection after the query is run
yeah but why
so to not have 1000000 connections open at once when not needed anymore
LOL the lecturer gave out to me about Ram usage using .Hide() instead of .Close() when exiting a Form.....
her laptop ran out of ram
does she have 1GB ram???
I only have 4 forms in my project
and only one can be opened at a time
tbf, connection pooling is an optimization.
anyone willing to do a small photoshop edit
I need to add a table to this diagram and its an image
why do you need PS for that
.... paint?
im too stupid
you could literally use powerpoint and screenshot and crop the graphs
open picture in paint, paste image of the thing onto ti, save picture
I got the table copied in gimp, I need to edit the text in it and create an arrow to the other table
how I make arrow in gimp
gimp is not the best tool for that...
then what is?
you need to download a script or download a vector arrow or something
I dont have it
you uninstalled paint? lol
I didnt remove anything except onedrive and teams
and the candy crush it preinstalls
im pretty sure paint is still a default thing on every windows version
There's no tool to draw arrows in GIMP, but you can just draw an arrow.
What kind of arrow you looking for?
cut a square in half for the head of the arrow and use a rectangle for the tail maybe
a curved line with a solid triangle at the end
Use the ink tool for the line, the triangle you'll just have to draw with the pencil or brush.
You can make it solid with the bucket tool.
im using paint 3d :')
I mean I guess that is good enough to draw lines
Inkscape is probably better, alright. You can draw arrows with it.
idk just get default paint back again
By the way, what happens when you do Win+R, type in mspaint and press enter?
paint net is overkill for making an arrow and entering text
might as well stay with gimp then imo
So is GIMP.
just google how to install paint since it seems to be gone
thanks windows
By the way, what happens when you do Win+R, type in mspaint and press enter?
you probably used one of these "remove bloat" scripts when you installed windows and that also removed paint I bet
i wonder if all the mspaint downloads on google are actually the real thing or just viruses 🤔
coincidentally it's the same people who blame windows for "not working properly"
You probably deleted it from the system32 folder somehow.
ive not used a debloat script on this install
maybe removing paint3d got rid of paint?
should be seperate
Don't think so.
what if you just throw this in system32
Check system32 and sysWOW64.
sysWOW64? :') wtf is that file name
no not really
I haven't checked, but that's what I reckon.
syswow64 contains 32-bit libraries and executables
Friend wants me to take a dead Macintosh Classic and put a Raspberry Pi inside. Sounds fun 😄
wow64 stands for windows on windows 64 pretty much
Makes sense. It's related to the 64-bit thing.
system32 still has 32 for compatibility
I got a semi curve in inkscape
itll do
now must try to make a tiny ass solid triangle
aha I found that link also xd
this chat has been incredible :p
oh thats actually really easy i suggested inkscape but really had no clue how to draw an arrow in it lol
next option is to print, scribble with pen, scan
inkscape: draw a line, pick the arrow ends
wow im so good at drawing
XD
wtf is an OSU tablet
just a tablet that i play osu with
its just a normal pen tablet lol
but i cant draw just because i suck
This is what osu is btw https://youtu.be/pafoDiH16q4
copy and paste?
what the fuck is that? is that a game?
quick time events, the game?
you just press numbers?
lol you have to click the circles when the circle closing in on them is right on the hitcircle
ah, rsi
lmao
So basically, yes.
Free stuff only, nerd.
When I try to export the image as PNG in Inkscape
Choose a valid area then
make sure you are exporting the page not selection
check what size youre exporting as
if its something really big it could take awhile
or if you have a ton of points
its still not done exporting
for really big images when i export as png they are smaller not sure why
i was getting a 8mb png that end up being like 50mb jpg
ok if i put quality really low its lower but the one gets distorted a ton
lemme do 100 quality and see
Yeah it really depends on content, simple things like that should compress really well with png
im using gimp with just default export settings so idk
trying to find a massive image to test this for me did google remove the size filter i cant seem to find it just basic small medium and large image filters
does it have any transpacrency settings that would get removed maybe?
and ye google dumbed down the image settings
stupid
very annoying to find 2^x images now
cant even search for 4k+ images now
large counts 1080p
like thats even large
oh apparently this exists https://www.google.com/advanced_image_search
PNG can do weird things though. It'll sometimes seemingly at random increase the filesize to three times what it ought to be.
hmm for this it does actually compress smaller
this is the image that i was using earlier that wouldnt compress very well as a jpg
its too big for discord to load so you have to click it and open original
the resolution I will be gaming on with my new gpu
lol i made it as a joke for a discord im in where theres this one channel that everybody spams "vc" in so i made an image with about 600,000 "vc"s in it
if you zoom in you can see all of the induvidual VCs
im actually really surprised that i managed to compress that down to 8mb though
About the export settings for jpg, this is about what I use most the time:
minus safe exif
yeah thats what i usually use but for some reason that makes the 12480x12480 image i put above ridiculously big
well with just cv in there you generally want to not use jpg
hmm
yeah im not really sure how the compression stuff works
but i think its weird that making that image a jpg makes it 25x larger
jpg is a garbage format anyway, way to old but still used because alternatives never took off.
it makes it larger than png but not than the raw image
png's compression algorythm is just more efficient for simpler things.
ah
Still amazing that an image format from that's almost as old as I am is still actively used.
Because of the compression.
And because "everything runs it".
PNG or ... WebM have been strong contendors, but can't really fight the "but what if it won't show on X shitphone?"
bmp is the format
literally runs everywhere
because is literally just an array of pixel values

I do think webp is going to make it at some point.
Older format suffered from why include a formats that's never used / why use a format that's never compatible.
However nowadays with dynamic loading webp gets at least enough reason to be used, eventually all relevant devices will support it and a switch can be made.
Just requires apple to not be apple for a bit
^^
yes I know xkcd 927
AVIF though
Actually apple does seem to want to implement it. At that point its just waiting.
ok im on the pc now
kuuube, did you simply copy paste something alot of times? i thought it was supposed to be that picture above it
no lol
thats the image that i was trying to compress as a jpg but didnt work well
if you zoom in you can see that its VC copy and pasted nearly 600,000 times
yes...
lol i made it as a joke for a discord im in where theres this one channel that everybody spams "vc" in so i made an image with about 600,000 "vc"s in it
https://images.hdqwalls.com/wallpapers/anime-bird-sky-scenery-8k-5a.jpg if you want the image that i had in gimp
so ive put the pic on my 4k tv and put teh res also on 4k and now it looks like pink.
yea, but ive made it smaller in the browser to this size
but 2k screen isnt dense enough, but the 4k screen is, and now it looks like 1 solid blob of pink
yea, now you can see more difference between the cv's
my disappointment is ruined
and my day is imeasureable
im sure i fucked up that meme
haha
🔎
haha
think about how much pain it took me to make it
it was awful
i was sure id crashed gimp many times
but idk somehow it worked
some companies always register trademarks early without even knowing what they are selling
see all the registers for 5900xt 5750xt etc on amd most recently
only thing it really shows is that MSI believes a gpu launch is close
I think 3 or 4 SKUs will be announced on the event, one launching mid sep, one or two end of september, AiB's around the same time for basic variants
GEMM goes BRRRR
yeah, I mean in pro space the rtx stuff wasn't a scam and they could actually speed up stuff by moving it to gpu from CPU calculations
ehh not really, gotta be able to ask for extra money with quadros
why not make gamers pay quadro prices and double quadro prices
Would be interesting to have some comparisons of the average price of gpu's sold at one of the big retailers over time.
I think ultimately pricing right now comes down to three things:
1: The average consumer does not simply look at price vs performance in a uniform fashion, so when a card is a bit of a worse deal on average it's market share will not drop to 0
2: neither amd nor nvidia are agressively persuing more marketshare by lowering their margins
3: consumers are willing to pay these higher prices in large enough numbers.
geizhals has prices over time for individual parts, pretty sure there are site that easilt collect that
What I would want to see is the average price gpu's in general are sold at over time.
So to compare you would have to look at sales volume as well.
As high end models have gone up in price did the actual buyers move with the gpu branding or with equivelent prices.
I could do something with the steam hardware survay but that is rather international and also includes a lot of sales from other regions and also laptop parts.
but why
impossible has to be real clearly
besides, one of the ps manufacturers already showed the 12 pin connector
its actually rather small
wait you were serious?
LMAO
I mean, not I totally believe this, the 12 pin is for the 3080, the 3090 will come with an integrated psu of 850watt just for the card, so you can just plug the card into the wall
it all makes sense now, the new cooler is bc the backside is just a full PSU
gotta power that mini computer with a direct line to the wall
kek doubt have money for gpu when I buy 8khz polling mouse
which one
oh where are you in the world
i got one a bit ago
you should be able to get one if youre quick enough
no its out
its been out for a long time
its near impossible to get one though because they sell out so fast
i just got really lucky so i got one
i dont really care too much about the resolution
and in most games i cant run fast enough for that anyways
i mostly bought the monitor for osu
tbh i cant feel a big difference between even 60hz and 240hz in fps games
but for me in osu its huge
well i can react to circles appearing faster and stuff like that also but it didnt feel like a bit improvement in fps
i cant run every game at 240+ fps but the ones i can or even the ones that run around 160-200 i dont really feel a big difference from 60hz
well if i play a osu on 60 it feels awful... idk its weird
Why the hell does having a load on a HDD freeze explorer? nonsense.
Also compressed audio files shouldn't exist. They are a pain in the ass to extract.
all audio files are compressed
ah
well different thing
but tf2 had raw audio files
for all languages
which then got replaced by more compressed ones later on
and the file size shrunk a couple gb
tbf
at least they have tools which are usable to extract said files
like gcfscape
unlike say, other formats.
not to mention valve actually ships a gcf commandline tool
Why would I ever want to not see blue light?
supposedly more tiring
The only times I ever had problems with my unusually dry eyes was when I was using contact lenses for 16h+ in front of the screen
Too dry to wash all the dirt away in that case
Meh
I don't believe it
And even then, it doesn't sound like it' worth the tradeoff
Today's shower thought - What if Epic is trying to shake the hornets nest so much that Trump bans Tencent investments and void them. 😂
tencent has a 40% stake, not majority
and afaik their funding series have been where they got most of their money and those are done transactions
40% is a LOT of influence.
And they can do the old "buy shares anonymously" thing 😄
Those 40% has also risen astronomically in value since Tencent bought them for peanuts.
you do know they are not a publicly traded company? much much harder to buy that anonymously
yeye
slack ez
please no
wtf was that other one called
guilded?
yea
now let's see who tf made it

apparently nvidia will drop a trailer today that will confirm the 12 pin
apparently nvidia will drop a trailer today that will confirm the 12 pin
@ashen spindle https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEzI02SKALY
Over the past 20 years, computer graphics have made huge advancements in performance. It takes a combination of expertise in thermal, mechanical, electrical, and industrial design to make it all happen. NVIDIA presents the art and science of graphics card design today and look...
People are already hating on it.
oh nice, I'll watch it after this devcom talk is over
watching a talk about the AI they made in surge2 right now
And with good reason. What the fuck is that angled, poorly oriented port. It's like nVidia wants to combat WC.
@wheat plume https://webaim.org/blog/user-agent-string-history/
I hate whoever designed Apple keyboards 30 years ago. The spacebar has the dumbest mounting mechanic I have seen on a mech to date.
Listening to the video I hear the team struggling with the amount of power the card needs to pull.
One central Alps switch, and then a weird "pipe" on the left offset that just helps with stabilization. So far so good.
Then you have the metal bar approach...which is nigh impossible to actually click into place when you're trying to put the spacebar back on.
this is a post from 2008, haha
I gave up after a solid 10 minutes.
Or on another plattform
@old marlinhttps://developer.chrome.com/multidevice/user-agent
@reef patrol alps stabilization is weird
Seen that in conjuction with costar stabilizers AND a dead switch
To stabilize one spacebar
I am this close to selling it on, unless I can find someone showing a way to pop those back in. Without them the spacebar just bottoms and gets stuck. 😦
uhhh
I know how to get them in
it is a bit weird
taking it out of the case can make it quite a bit easier
you basically have to align the spacebar on tope of the space and switch
and then push in the wire with a small screwdriver
that is what I always did at least
Tried the screwdriver approach. Just isn't any room to do that - And the stab wire keeps moving away. 😄
But maybe with the entire case "off" I might be able to.
Again - No room 😄
rip
As soon as the spacebar is aligned with the "dead switch", the gap is too small to do anything meaningful.
Peg. Thank you
huh that video was uh unexpected? Obviously a marketing video but still neat to get a few looks into something they usually dont talk about
It'll help make the fanboys go "But look at all of the tech they put into it" when they hear the price 😄
yea...
To me it mostly looked like engineers explaining how they had to deal with a card pulling a million watts.
sure, but that feat is still interesting to hear about :p
Indeed, it was actually not bad at all.
after all, put an amazing heat sink on a lower power card and you can run it even quieter and such etc. it doesn't mean it has to now always get power hungrier
as for the weird angled 12 pin, idk, I'd have to see it on an actual card, the size looked weird on the drawing, could still be an annoying placement or maybe it makes it easier to plug in? I dont build enough pcs to make a guess there
Looking at the placement I think it's mostly put that way to optimize for boardspace. With that fan on the back the pcb has to be shorter.
I don't think it will be too awkward, fairly similar to just having the connectors on top, maybe a bit better but not too bad imo.
No single slot blocks for FE that's for sure.
oh you mean for watercooling?
Yep.
@prisma crag .pck, .bnk and .wwise/.wav. extracting them requires quickbms and some quickbms scripts, bnkextr, wav2ogg, revorb and a hex editor. Quickbms extracts the files from .pck, bnkextr extracts the .bnk files, quickbms again with a different script to convert .wwise files to their correct name, ww2ogg to convert .wwise to .ogg, revorb to fix files and then finally using a hex editor on the extracted .bnk files to match them with the .ogg files. I have 18263 ogg files. just to try and find some fucking unreleased music. life is pain
Also doesn't help that certain said tools don't exist on the internet anymore and I have to get them from shady places. this is fine.

Ryzen Master offers automatic overclocking, but it's long been known that underVOLTING is king for AMD - And 1usmus' C...
aka manual OC
this overclocks with the press of a button.
well yes but no
it circumvents manual overclocking
It's like auto OC. But actually good 😆
well, i already maxed out the oc of my cpu so i wont need it. might give it a try some time tho.
you still need to set certain stuff you dont know, its not gpu boost 3.0 equivalent
Aside from setting a few things in BIOS beforehand, it is more or less hands off. And those things are explained.
well, you need to adjust bios to allow the program to do its own overclocking, but those are the only stuff you need to adjust
Keep in mind this still isn't released.
and only for 3950x and up of minimal use,
This is still hours faster than trying to tweak each individual core, not to mention requires zero knowledge.
no, all zen 2 amd's
That's just wrong, Quin 😆
seriously quin, watch the vid before you type anything more
it explains everything
@prisma crag appreciate it, but I already made my own hackish solution with bash. I will definitively use that for next time however, never even knew that was a thing.
they literally say it's mostly for zen2 with multiple CCX
"more" which isn't "only"
every zen2, the more ccx you have, the better hte results, but it works for every zen 2 cpu
I never said it doesnt work anywhere?
I'd hardly call a "up to 10%" boost minimal use. Will it work for everyone? No. But you're not exactly spending any time on it either.
just that with their result on the 3970x I think it was? I dont see you getting anything that is not normal deviation for a 1ccx chip
yes
5 minutes in bios. and then 2 minutes installing this program and ryzen master, and hten you press a button, let the program run its course, and behold, overclocking done for you.
Look at it this way - it does the boring work of testing all of your cores for you. That's a lot of time saved.
Didn't want to OC? This does it for you and safely.
nobody said otherwise Locke 😅
From my understanding the tool does not OC?
Oh? How much?
As much as it can within the specifications given.
all I said is that nobody will know what to put here if they wouldn't understand OC'ing anyway, so it's mostly a tool to make it slightly faster, it's not a gpu3.0 where you literally let the tool do the thing was my entire point xD
they dont have to
the tool does that for you
you literally only have to press that button that allows the overclock. the tool does the overclocking for you.
seriously quin
watch
the
fucking
vid
I did on release
jesus christ im not saying it's broken and doesnt work
you say people are confused by hte numbers
anthony explains the tool does the numbers for you
you can tweak the numbers if you want to, but the tool does all the overclocking for you
it detects when your cpu becomes unstable, which cores become unstable, and overclocks it safely
I feel like 99% of the conversation could have been solved by Quin watching the video.

yes!
which I did on release two days ago...
The tool picks settings for you based on known tests. That means if the Devs don't have a chip in hand, it can't do that. But they can help you guess if you contact them.
It literally IS that.

I'm saying the tool gives a 1.3% on a 3970x, which has 32 cores so that's 4 CCX right? and the tool operates on ccx level, meaning you should expect less on a lower chip
It gave that on THAT specific die.
As explained in the video, they've seen results of upwards to 10% - And that was with (as I understand) safer settings, not "enthusiast overclocking"
Again - Automatic tool gives you anywhere from 0 to 10% free boost.
10% on a 3990x? I dont recall where they said that was seen on
ON A CPU
yes on what cpu
Mister "I watched the video on release" 😛
so on what cpu did they achieve it on?
very nice answer
.. then give me a timestamp? the result they got in R20 was the 1.3% I talked about
on a 3970x, which the creator of the tool himself didnt test the program on yet
..yes, I'm waiting for what cpu the 10% was achieved on because that can change or support the argument I want to make
ask him?
To hand the answer on a golden plate (you lazy bastard), they show results of a 3900X and a 3960X in the video.
70 you mean?
I know what I said.

How many fucking ads does he have in that short clip?
ok so you talk about the data they got from usmus and not their own
Yeah - You didn't watch the video
Because the percentages are what Linus said Usmus said they had achieved.
At no point did Linus claim theirs did that...
no I interpreted you saying "they've seen x" as they have actually seen that and not got the data from someone else
The software isn't released. There literally is only the developer who has it! Reeee xD
except they got it so they could've very well tested it on more than the 3970x???
Note to self: Quintosh never watches anything they claim to. Just watch the entire thing and hand them everything on a platter. Because fuck if they want to do any - ANY - research 😄
sure..
You've literally done nothing but confirm that.
just kidding quin
yes the entire time I skipped over the first parts because I was looking for them showing their own data on it, because that''s how I interpreted what you said
So you didn't watch it. Thank you.
I did on release, I did not fully rewatch it now, because I misunderstood what you meant, so why would I watch the intro again, if I thought you were referencing to something at the end
what I wanted to get at, is that just based on what they've seen, a 1.3% increase on a chip with twice as many CCX as the AM4 chips offer, you would not get really much out of it, if you just click the auto tune compared to ryzen master or whatever the amd tools for it are. It's nice to have something that offers intel XTU features and auto tests it, but it's not like you would get equal gains to gpu 3.0 implementations without knowing OC stuff
now if the 8% on the AM4 chip is not the exception then it might be better than what it looks like right now even without knowing more things about OC
but sure, feel free to say me misunderstanding what you meant, means I am to lazy to watch a video
Good.
I think chips are more thermally limited will benefit more
Particularly those running >60°C
My 3700X already boosts to 4.4 on all cores, sometimes 4.425 on the best 2
But is actually limited by power draw on nT loads
if [$var != "/dev/sd[a-z]"];```
am i mising something?
for some reason the data stored in var is printed instead of returning false if not inline with "/dev/sd[a-z]"
regex in single brackets?
tried double square brackets?
if it's specifically bash
didn't know [a-z] worked in this form
aparently it does
im writing a script to install linux quick and dirty
double brackets doesnt change anything
btw ideally you'd use "$var" or "${var}" in general because if there are spaces things can break though possibly not in this case
Also add spaces so the brackets don't touch, might sound stupid it probably is but shell scripts in general are dumb so that might matter
tthe script usecase is assuming the user knows what they are doing
oh yea spaces, didn't see that one
that breaks things
could you post a bigger part of the script
i had to rewrite it because the base linux installer has bash only
i wanted to script it in fish
this should work: if [[ "$var" != "/dev/sd"[a-z] ]];
also you need double square brackets for this
why?
because it's a bash feature
basically certain features require the [[ ]] it's a different way to process
btw what I posted will also match /dev/sdgtfo
that should seem to work
it does not work
did you make sure there is a space between that and the brackets because I tested it working
now it throws a syntax error
#!/bin/bash var="/dev/sdc" if [[ "$var" != "/dev/sd"?[a-z] ]]; then echo true else echo false fi
yeah
thats what it is
it still allows for extra characters after the last unspecified character
?[a-z] is a single character match
Another thing to note though I do not know if it's relevant is you won't match nvme drivers the way you are doing.
for example I have /dev/nvme0n1 and /dev/nvme1n1 as drives
i dont have nvme drives

I remember having this issue with [X-Y] arguments
Sadly I don't remember how I fixed it
is it just bash being stupid?
No. It's just the documentation for said thing is wrong
wll thats shit
maybe version differences because my sample works for me as it should
sucks if anyone wanted to use the documentation
Can you try using the busybox shell instead?
this script wil be run with zero install
See if that would work.
just use the * wildcard
Doesn't the wildcard just give everything though?
yeah
Yes but there should be one for one character
?* should be similar
? (question mark) this can represent any single character. If you specified something at the command line like "hd?" GNU/Linux would look for hda, hdb, hdc and every other letter/number between a-z, 0-9.
? is a single character. Any
i just want a single character
No wonder your script isn't working
from a-z
You can define /dev/sd*2 go get every /dev/sd that has been numbered 2
Giving 2 wildcards means it has to match the wildcards with something
?* means atleast two characters
why does that work
Because
You are trying to take a random char
And then trying to use [a-z]
So assume you have /dev/sdX
? gets the X
oh yea, I usually just default to regex, or * infinite expansions
but [a-z] finds nothing.
A wildcard has to be met with something
Since there is no [a-z] after X.
logic would have me specify that i want a character and then the range
i guess thats different here
However
If you had for example
/dev/sdXX
It would work
But we are talking a fuckton of drives to get over /dev/sdXX
or the admin just defined that as such
and partions are a thing
Udev generally manages that
Yes but partitions are numbers not /dev/sdX
Partitions are /dev/sdaXXX
Well that's a you problem then
this is a dirty script just supposed to be used for my own small systems
nothing more
if others want to tweak it and make it better they can
Also LordBloat, they kinda have to follow convention AFAIK
Unless you symlink
Since AFAIK the kernel enumerates files as /dev/sdX internally.
So unless you change the kernel, goodluck not having /dev/sdX.
The last image that was send requested for two characters after /dev/sd. First wildcard is anything the second has been limited to a-z. Thus /dev/sdaz would match but /dev/sda1 will not as the second wildcard is not met which does not accept nothing
to pass characters into other programs like gdisk i need to echo them?
echo "things to be done" | gdisk
fdisk
Unless you are running a program that already outputs to stdout
fdisk != gdisk
one is mbr other is gpt
mbr is obsolete
not for ssds tbh
cfdisk is what i used to set my system up
but this is command line only
cfdisk is a ui
ssds haven't reached >2tb yet with reasonable cost
still
or 'sudo dd if=/dev/null of=/dev/sd* && su nobody'
guid is better than having an mbr and partition limit
Well tbh
Unless you're making custom partitions for /var, /usr, etc, you're likely not gonna hit that limit
But you do you
i just make a custon partition for boot home swap and root
boot swap and root will be on the same drive
thats my setup anyway
I have three partitions for my system root, boot, home
do make sure the swapfile has no holes tho
true that
Be resourcefull use minimal programs to get stuff done
You can also use dd to burn iso's
dd live iso's
yup
But it is a blunt instument and hopes the user is somewhat competent to make sure it is safe to do so
It will write null to the root if told so
Mage
Mage
It is always good to first use man on the command to learn what you are doing
ehhhhh
yesn't
the smaller the program the more possible it is to read man
the bigger, the more impossible.
-h or --help should be working with most normal programs
-h generally does it
-- is a gnu thing
tbf
i use -- since - options are a mess
not to mention capitals vs lowercase options
some have very drastic differences
So what are you actually trying to do exactly?
It remends me of some crappy thing I wrote a year or so ago.
A script on a bootable usb to automatically add an extra partition to fill the rest of the drive.
bootstrapping?
You must throw this ring in the vulcano lol
Modern fdisk does GPT though
True
fdisk does gpt no prob
But depending on how old the program is...
Rather take no chances tbh
Never know
when using fdisk in a script you should use sfdisk
I like rolling dices where can i enter?
a live production environment.
Need to feed that gambling addiction somehow
I love pushing to master without a branch merge it just saves more time
I dont like those odds change it to % 1 or im out
Reminds me of a large mess I made cd / and then rm -R *
Luckily I could recover from what I lost before I noticed
Also use shred way more epic ness
I also accidentally used rm -rf on my hdd directory once...
thank god for recovery utilities thou
I basically wanted to wipe an external hard drive I mounted on /mnt but forgot to cd there and ran it on / instead
Luckly you had setup the privelages correctly and did no damage 🙂
Imagine not using root for everything
imagine not being in single user mode/using a single user kernel
Imagine a world where you dont sudo su on .bashrc
