Also, this may be interesting if it is truth
ok scam prices
electrophoresis yellow is the same price as purple ano
electrophoresis white is 80 USD more though
same discount on all of them
yes bexin we've went over this earlier already, its ampere release
which will most likely force win 10 2004 which is absolutely garbage
what
21 years
win10 2004
win 10 2004 has a ton of latency you can't turn off updates anymore at all (great idea in a business environment microsoft) other things dont work anymore
ofc its ampere i'm talking about the hardware going to need win 10 2004
in a business env ud have a win server controlling update rollout
@sick creek yea their discord is completely useless
I'm talking about the hardware going to need win 10 2004
what
yeah which isnt possible under win 10 pro cause they took away that option @fair gull
what
wut
ofc thats available
@sinful dirge Where do you think Windows 2004 has latency?
no it can be delayed under enterprise managing but group policy edits are ignored since 2004
nonono , why would it required 2004
all my customers that run 2004 and a winserver still only get updates when i want it
ok they did fix that then
one update did mess that up i havent been keeping track of 2004 as closely
if windows servers and their policies would be ignored windows would literally anger the entire industry they focus on
businesses
on win 10 pro they get ignored after a month with updates forced off in gpedit
well lots of info in here LOL
can we go back to why you think the latest windows is needed
some of the new features most likely will require 2004 but its not 100% sure
but if enough people complain they will do like what happened to some other hardware where they did patch in for older versions
ok so what you wanted to say, is that on older windows version you maybe can't use all the features
just like you can't use rtx on older builds that dont have the windows RT api
wow what a surprise
depends on how far they push it
i wouldnt be aware of anything 2004 brought that wasnt in 1909
graphics related that is
Update less: Last year, we changed update installation policies for Windows 10 to only target devices running a feature update version that is nearing end of service. As a result, many devices are only updating once a year. To enable all devices to make the most of this policy change, and to prevent confusion, we have removed deferrals from the Windows Update settings Advanced Options page starting on Windows 10, version 2004. If you wish to continue leveraging deferrals, you can use local Group Policy (Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Windows Update for Business > Select when Preview builds and Feature Updates are received or Select when Quality Updates are received). For more information about this change, see Simplified Windows Update settings for end users.
business specific btw
ah gotcha that wasnt in the build i tested for enterprise glad to see thats back
theres very small changes in terms of graphics stuff
most interesting would really be the dx12 changes
@fickle ore win 10 has added latency to the kernel since a while ago mostly the spectre / meltdown changes
cheers for the link @fair gull
Not touching 2004 till my game experience is fixed π
Two games I played got fucked up hard.
is this going to be another discussion like the nvidia thing where people complained about added latency in the nanosecond range?
@sinful dirge Mostly the latency is with Intel, not AMD. Yeah sadly I think AMD take a bit of a hit
true
honestly what i'd wish most for is microsoft doing what apple did a while ago and go directly to the hw
again, can either of you please provide any numbers for this latency hit
atm no : my 1909 rig is not plugged in
dont need exact numbers, 10ns, 10ms range etc.
calculate it
Since you seem to include me in this (although I had no part), MSI mode was a 5% diff in synthetics.
The things he talks are different but also 0-400% differences
just wanted to make sure we're not having a brainded argument again bc it adds 15ns of latency
Nobody ever was talking about nanoseconds
yes yes, remember the talk about intel HT adding latency to nvidia drivers?
I always talked about microseconds and milliseconds, which are very large time windows in computer time
Nanoseconds are something different
for averages the nr's are not that far inbetween 1709 and 2004 however the spikes are pretty different between both versions
?? how am I twisting words
If you insist I talked about nanoseconds in the past
I'm pretty sure it was you who argued about the inlte HT/nvidia driver latency
Yes? And who said the difference was 15ns?
ok the 15 was made up bc I could only remember it was double digit ns range
No
the only data anyone ever linked was a link to nvidia forums and there it was in the nanoseconds, nobody ever was able to link anything else
@frozen anchor sound test is HPs
0,2 microsecond ISR latencies (NON HT) vs 200 microsecond (0,2 ms) latencies with HT enabled a few years ago.
I could screenshot it for you if I cared, but you can also do it yourself via IDLT
But it's perfectly normal. Virtual cores add some latency.
idlt?
interresting,a lso cant test it since I have no HT
read MSI mode's effect on bench
some recent talk about nvidia drivers https://forums.guru3d.com/threads/wbinvd.433540/ that I talked couple years back
hey nice, actual numbers, not "it adds latency" and I have to find numbers myself
Sorry I'm too lazy
no this is fine
but the last 3 times this discussion came up here nobody could be arsed to post numbers and just argued "its worse"
yup, sounds like me
Yeah sorry that I'm not giving nrs I'm currently backing up my main rig to ship off a broken 9900k
then I posted its in nanoseconds range and there came no "no its worse" just that that was bad enough already
no its fine
just wanted to make sure it's not just a difference in an academic setting
9900k with die to ihs heat transfer issues throttles under stock with a 360mm rad lol
Gotcha my biggest gripe with 1909 and up is still no fixes for terrible memory management forced vsync due to full screen optimizations and a few others
This is the worst offender and has only got worse. This is a pic from 2019
And a lot of mitigations since
@old marlin lmao well you should be happy
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
btw
Base: Glorious GMMK board
Switches: Lubed Holy Pandas (Halo True Stem + YOK Trash Panda housing/spring)
Stabs: Base GMMK stabs lubed and clipped
Keycaps: Ducky PBT KEYCAP Seamless Double-shot - Black
Filmed with sound on an Iphone X
same switches in a GMMK
beats their 410 USD custom
@fair gull the problem is when there are multiple offenders just a few are outliers
as a frame of reference https://discordjs.moe/uWGerOpYMT.png
i have a drop ctrl high profile with holy pandas and i love it
yea
and sa keycaps
this is such a small time that i cant even really relate it with ms
i think that's a matter of opinion
in comparison to this keyboard i'm on now, the wooting sounds like a $5 keyboard
at 5ghz default boost we are sub 100ns https://discordjs.moe/scayovrLmS.png
welllllll
a gmmk beats it in sound
my womier beats both easily
also beats a drop alt or ctrl
again... you're going off 1 video 1 set of keycaps
in sound at least
yea
gmk
which should be one of the best for sound
the gmmk has some OEM profile ones
so you think they have the same exact mic setup
so thin ablated ABS
no
the gmmk one is worse
i have NEVER heard HPs sound that bad
so why bother making the comparison
i'm not worried about it lmao
they majorly fucked something up
@fair gull I don't think you understand it that well. What when there are thousands or hundred of thousands operations going on at the same time?
notice? where?
it's a cnc milled chunk of aluminum, it really can't be that bad. i think you need to get it in the hands of someone like chyrosan before you can really make a judgement
throughtput? sure? avg fps, sure? Science simulations? Sure
i havent noticed a dent in any of it that would make me go "huh this is shit"
@sick creek it can be really bad though
Typing test a new NK65 from NovelKeys, this was built with Holy Pandas.
i think based off of two crap videos it's not worth making that jump
this is bad for example
good mic setup
so you hear the flaws better lol
yea
any video of HPs sounds better
like ANY
yea but you dont know if the mic quality is affecting the sound negatively
i mean they are chinese lol
well it would have to remove the signature of the switch
COMPLETELY
it removed the whole reason why people get HP
which is?
the sound
well you bought it for hype
wat
thats not why i got em
yes you are in my head
tells me how much you know
you know exactly why i bought them
I mean you bought a drop keeb as well
yes because i liked it
i also pre-ordered the CFTKB mysterium v2
because i liked it
?
i didnt buy cyberboard for the sound
are you telling me a drop alt or ctrl was carefully designed?
i bought it because it's ridiculous
haha as if i give a shit what the pcb looks like
keyboard works, who cares
what matters is the thought put into the board
autorouting of doom lol
ok so design your own

i dont get it
ok then...?
What are you on about? That looks awesome π
i think actually... most autorouters can do better than that
backed by million dollar company
cant afford 5$ autorouting sub to a decent ai rotuer
or copy an existing design
sounds like you should start being nice to people then instead of imagining you can do better
bro
I can do better though
exactly
this is top notch lazyness
it's a TKL keyboard
You people are making me want to mute the channel. It's like an endless whiny complaining record π
ig bad design gets rewarded
π oh because it's mainstream
"why do you care"
We care - We just get incredibly tired of your go to response being "it bad - I do better". π
dude if you want to manually create your own PCBs and cry like the curmudgeon you are

then go for it
still have a kbd design somewhere
liek I said
give me sec to find it
yes yes now be quiet
yea ok
Ahem
Show off your board in #archived_wootstations or PM me your Lekker order mail confirmation. Won't take many seconds to fix. π
how long did that take?
5minutes of google
3 minutes including opening the programm and file?
lol
like u can literally find free gerber files on the net
now just copy some korean design
with better routing
lol @fair gull thats kinda sad tbh
even has a joystick
now call it a logic tech and sell it on Wish
and people buy it cause randomfrankp used it
even the firmware is in the repo
thanks
10/10 design
very carefully made
saved the 0.02 cents in labor not picking a decent autorouter
nahh too much effort
like 50,60,70% and fullsize
but literally nothing hard about using a decent autorouter
the hard part would actually be shematics and firmware
not routing the shit
but I guess nobody cares, just save the 2 seconds and do this
psure this might not even really be routed with anything
but the "go round stuff like holes"
and then just do shortest path
i bet we could sell an open source keyboard for cheaper and make more money
lol
as a "solder yourself" kit
not even assembled
and now have enough money to make and sell it
SMD is cheap enough
if I had 2k I could make and run a board that sounds better than either of those
for under 200 USD
do it
ask some company to sponsor you
won't happen
got no design background
am still in training
nothing of financial worth as a security
so maybe in a few years when I earn more than 1k after tax
not as simple as "just do it"
but apparently not having enough money or being able to design makes you not being able to comment on it
also thought about doing some pcb/hardware dev and selling it but more in the direction of modchips and/or rom replacement cartridges for old consoles
well you usually can't do such stuff for monet
and I'd feel horrible for ripping people off with imate clones
no like
as in
what redherring does for example
boards that basically can accept the original rom
and just make the games last longer
so that failing hardware like cpus etc isnt a problem
which shrinks your target group even more
yea ik
but I could just go to work more
and get my overtime paid out
I'd get more money
ya but less freetime and enjoyment
i just enjoy doing schematics and pcb design
and related firmware
I would enjoy designing it
but not getting the final product makes it not so fun for me
even getting it as a decent 3dprint would be expensive
Person who noticed this is 5Head

So Quin is also 5Head
id guess its old news
They went with 21 year 21 day marketing today so not that old
at least 4.5hrs old
Wow so old
we already added 20cores in those 4.5hrs
and researched 200gbase-t copper transfer speeds
FML
Ordered a Corsair case and a Corsair AIO...but the AIO is too T H I C C to fit.
Never buying a discount Corsair case again xD
cant be too thick ever
Not rad thickness sadly. The tubing part extends down into the GPU, unless your case has enough clearance above for fans.
@reef patrol this?
F
35$ mistake shortterm.
was this also to get around the asetek patents? lol
I can probably sell it later.
was this also to get around the asetek patents? lol
@sick creek Definitely. The pump is in the rad side thing not the pump head. Just look at how slim the head is.
At least I can two day deliver an air cooler that will definitely fit instead.
Then I'll just sell the H45 on.
deepcool did that better
pump is in a second chamber above the coldplate
not sure who makes them
oh yea it is no bodge
where does ek come from?
slovenia
lol
counder is called edward kΓΆnig, suspiciously german name
Very cubic and yellow stripe
Looks very ek
Have you ever tried to search for a tech problem online and that spirals out and slowly turns into a Kafkaesque nightmare? Oh you have? Several times a year? Good to know. It happened to me when I had problems trying to get Kotor in Widescreen. Thatβs when I decided to make t...

that is a lot of memory used... closing the browser helps a lot
well, today my screen is gonna arrive. in 2 up to 5 hours from now
im so exited π
"Founders Edition and custom designs will launch simultaneously" nice, that's another point nvidia does well again, amd not having AiB partners at launch always sucks
News article: http://silicon-news.com/news/2012/06/17/linus-torvalds-nvidia-fuck-you/
Linus Torvalds reveals his true feelings for Nvidia.
2012? nice. it aged well
sure, for devs that's true, but so far im only a customer :p
I mean if the drivers dont work
sounds like an amd issue
amd has better drivers than nvidia in linux. Especially with older tech
linux
bsd
so basically open source drivers aka other people that are not amd made the drivers better, right?
amd also works on the driver with the public.
idk if amd would be doing most of it I dont understand why it would be so much worse under windows
I ar smart persun
why not fraps and unlicenced hypercam?
Codex included a kickass chiptune track without mentioning artist...so I uploaded it to YT to see if it could recognize it π
Oh that would be galaxy brain level. I'm not THAT smart.
We need to stay civilised!, gentleman. and add a long intro with that trance music from 2010 youtube
Oh I also had to enable a VPN because Google are in a legal battle with the Danish music industry...so 99% of music videos are blocked atm π

That moment 99% of music is owned/licenced by a single entity
Eh it's more of a licensing agency.
They make sure all Danish artists get the money they're owed when their music is played. But since everyone taps into it (Sony etc..) if legal trouble occurs it shuts everything down globally.
The perks of monopolies
I can't listen to US based artists who are under Sony's label, because they are under "KODA" here.
Monopoly...or a union. Depends on how you look at it. But it's definitely disruptive rn
In a nutshell. KODA wants more money their way (thus artists) per track played. YouTube wants to reduce it (due to falling and revenue and interest from viewers)
I'm kind of with YT on this one, since even with the reduction YT wants, they're still paying more per "play" than Spotify on their free version (w/ ads)
nothing new. Labels always suck as much money as they can get away with, even from the artists
KODA also have a bad rep in general. They are kind of Mafia like when it comes to retail stores using music.
Would not suprise me if artists see less income even if youtube will pay more
cus "bad times"
If you don't pay a subscription, they will sue you. And they count music playing "in the back" if they can hear as much as a whisper from the front desk. Or if you're doing tech support on a customers PC that requires it to play music.
And they will just back draft your bills. So if you cancelled your sub in January, and they do a surprise visit in July where they claim to hear music...yep. Billed from Jan and forward.
Even the mafia had simpler terms of service. Your money or your kneecaps
Was it not innocent untill proven with accuser having to proof guiltyness? they can claim what they want, but I would not take a paranoid schizophrenic at face value
I mean technically since they're suing you, you have every right to defend yourself.
But lawsuits aren't cheap in lawyers bills. So most just fold and accept the billing.
Especially mom and pop shops.
Can't defend yourself in a prolonged lawsuit if you're bankrupt from paying a lawyer.
slapp suits
Even when you are wrong you are right
just will them out of existance
big companies never fail to anger me. They just always turn faceless and greedy, strongarming anything they can.
Linus hating on Nvidia, linus hating on Intel
tbf Linus also hates on intel, at least on AVX512 (correctly so imo)
Dont discriminate hate everything equally
but then again intel doesnt really try to be liked. They just ignore everything and go along
and their cpu bugs
tbf they just have a few more, everyone has some right now
amd ahs less because they basically didn't have any cpu's for years
new PSU seems to make my system more stable, it atleast does not suddenly turn off when running star citizen
it was a be quiet psu, 530 watts. should have been enough.
it never seems to be able to die alone but has to bring the entire system down first
now a seasonic 550watt psu
Yeah unless you're pushing a 2080 or something that Be Quiet should have been plenty.
Get a reliable brand
Be Quiet are reliable though π
always go with seasonic, quality partner of wooting π
it was old though, survived 2 systems
And I say that even though I actually have one of their PSUs in for RMA right now.
A high end one. Their Platinum rated 650W. Just rotten luck.
oof, pricy
My friend tried to skimp out once saved like 30 euros and bragged about it.. few months later psu dead and pushed mains though the 12v lines killing pretty much everything
Free is free. And I had a Seasoning platinum to replace it with π
never seen a psu tester plastic thingy
A what now? π
multimeter and 10ohm power resistor is all what i need
never seen that before :p
not that useful. but interesting
Commonly used for custom loops.
if you miss the power button for some reason it could be usefull
Let's you start the pump and let it run without risking damage to the PC components.
If they don't have power, they won't fry from a leak.
hmm, cool
That is what we call safety feature
should i also plug in the bluray player π€
add a flowmeter to activate relay so components can only run if the pumps are moving enough liquid with a temp meter that shuts it off anyway when liquid gets too hot
now to shove back all the cables so i can close the case... and the cable mess is nicely hidden
use wireless cables my dude
ooooh!
boneless wireless power and data
wireless power and data?
yes. innovation waits for noone, so we need to acchieve the peak
realisticly,, tho. wireless power.. is going to be a distant future for PCs. kinda much to transfer 400+watts with most likely microwaves or lasers. Data, possible but is kinda counter productive as it will be worse than copper or glass.
maybe possible with water cooled pc,s using the flow of the loop itself to power the device π€
but why bother when copper exists
Seasonic Prime Ultra Titanium or go bust
iPhone 6s Plus discharges so fast on iOS 14 when gaming, nearly 80% in 2 hours
have you considered thats just heavy usage on a fairly old phone with prob not a new battery?
Yeah iPhones are notorious for needing new batteries after a year or two of "heavy" use.
Especially after the update that made them clock down if the battery was considered weak.
I have swapped SO many batteries in the 6-7 generation.
I'm still fine with my 6s plus but I dont really game on it
82% max capacity according to the os
Original Apple battery?
yup
Not bad.
The % is useless. The remaining mAh isn't.
Gotta go into the settings and see what it measures.
D R A W
.. where do I find the mah in the settings?
IN THE DRAW
taht revolver ocelot looks like 47
% means shit
Current is better measurement, though not sure how you can pull that on an iPhone.
Forgot what they are called but you plug the main charger into it then that into the phone
Which measures the capacity
That sounds like there is sth special going on, does not sound just like normal new gen GPUs.
sounds very much like a normal event to tell you what tehy did so far and then announce ampere
@reef patrol would be funny to see optical GPUs come out of nvidia.
tf is an optical gpu
Optical computing
Optical or photonic computing uses photons produced by lasers or diodes for computation. For decades, photons have promised to allow a higher bandwidth than the electrons used in conventional computers (see optical fibers).
Most research projects focus on replacing current com...
Basically a competitor to quantum computing
Ehh doubt it's viable cuz you need copper to fiber to copper converters and do that conversion many times within PC, until you have everything in fibers (all parts). Besides electricity travels slower in fiber than copper
conversion takes too much time
NVIDIA IS NOOBS on bad samsung 8nm
boo boo
POCOPHONE SHOT ON POCOPHONE F1
Why leave that watermarking on
im not rich. i still live with my parents, tho they do ask me to pay 400 in rent each month, other than gaming i dont have much to spend anyways.
better than having a house on my own. who the fuck can afford a home in the netherlands. only if you struck gold and are a server director for google or something
houses are really expensive, both when buying a house or renting one. im not willing to give up 2/3's of my salary just to say i got a home of my own. who the hell wants to live in poverty?
instead, i can afford nice things like this
i had to put fov to max not to have her butt up my face
this is the screen when only doing 2560x1440
so yea, the vertical scaling isnt that great
but hey, it supports 5120x1440 atleast
i can click on this res in options. i had to alt enter 5x to stop the flickering but eventually it worked normally
three kingdoms also does quite well on this res
π©
maybe later, its quite a hassle to get the picture to picture mode working and then disabling it
some games dont support the resolution at all, like mechwarrior 5
this is scaled 2560x1440
normally you would see the entire cockpit of the mech. this is with max fov
I dont even want to know how much that monitor cost
1160
O.o not as bas as I expected
and that was the cheapest offer XD the average is 1290
whats the ratio?
32:9
O.o
just because the 5 games you played with that effect exist, doesn't mean every game suffers from that lmao
I do, I just dont stretch them but keep it at that resolution Β―_(γ)_/Β―
wow, three monitors side by side
even more wow, actually
I wonder if I can play any games in 3840 x 1080
though given my current setup, that would not be practical at all
I am almost 100% certain witcher 3 uses multiple cameras
i fixed mechwarrior 5 tho
so this is at max ingame fov 120
and this is when i changed the config file directly with fov 140
so, it somewhat fixed the vertical stretch
so maybe that is the problem with most games doing ultrawide, that the fov has to be higher to compensate
Is that the CRG90?
it certainly did. im gonna be honest, you feel more immersed when your entire view is nothing but the cockpit of a mech. makes you feel more like you are inside of it. especially when i did the mission, walking around, shooting and stuff. it felt more realistic
samsung c49rg90 yea
I'm fuckin jealous ngl
I actually bought that monitor. But it was right as the riots kicked off a few months ago and everything went to shit. I got charged a shit load of money because of 'relocation' costs since Amazon kept trying to find a 'safe' place to ship it from.
well after the 2nd time it happened, i told them to just refund me and cancel the order.
i couldn't really get an ultrawide that big at all since it might cave my desk in from the weight
or just won't fit at all
I could make it fit. I've got a big ass desk
me too. ive made my own desk since i work at a metalshop. its more sturdy than all those lauzy ikea desks
lets see
do i still....
weird
only picture i could find, but that is the tabletop
nice
and then i made 2 square feet, bolted everything down and its quite sturdy
ofcourse its a little bit heavy since its all metal, but it aint supposed to go anywhere
I wish my desk was made so it could disconnect on the corner and be moved in two pieces
What monitor is that?
but no it has to be all once piece
Asking for a friend.
The sexy sexy CRG90
I'm envious, I almost had it too
@reef patrol samsung c49rg90
but there is also the samsung c49rg94, which is a little bit cheaper and...pretty much the same to my knowledge
i took this one over the 94 because only freesync 2.0 supports gsync. and the 94 has only freesync 1
so if you got an amd, its not that much of a problem
COLOR - CYBER GREY
KEYCAPS - GMK RED SAMURAI
SWITCHES - CHERRY MX RED
the gift that keeps on giving
also, its freaking hard adjusting from a screen half this size compared to this screen. im like, i expect my mouse to be rather fast from 1 end of the screen to the other end, but on this screen it takes twice as long XD
meanwhile other 400 USD plus boards

yes. a 400 dollar keyboard with a coiled cable
last time ive seen a coiled cable was with my granny's dial up phone
ok
man, those things sound hollow
Jesus Christ Yama. Not this again.
if you get an aftermarket cable you can get them coiled

Switches still aren't included.
yea ik
Those tests aren't super useful.
are for neither
the switches in the cyberboard typing test are trash
still sounds like crap
also 10/10 mic setup
it sounds like 2 hardened rubber pads are hitting eachother
what do I expect from a project backed by a multi billion dollar company, that scams all the guys that bought an anodized one
lol ok
Does it appear as two distinct desktops?
yes
Monitors I mean
but the thing is, windows seem to recognize them as being 2 screens next to eachother
look at that menu, it reacts like its 1 solid menu, not 1 menu that got split up between 2 screens
its because of the screensaver, otherwise you wouldnt know there were 2 seperate monitors there
but in every other sense, they react like 2 seperate screens. a game only plays at max 2560x1440 cause that is the screen size
wish i could make it more intuitive tho, that you hit a button on the screen and it changes from picture by picture to 1 solid screen. the problem is, because you got 2 screens connected, your pc sees 2 screens. so if you use only 1 screen, the other screen isnt shown, but can still be interacted with
which means that programs can spawn off screen XD
plus every time i switch from 1 big screen to picture by picture mode, nvidia control panel didnt save it.
envy
but do they have anyone who can make quality monitor reviews
would need to be a side channel thing for them
nobody on the main channel will watch stuff that cares about srgb deltas
sounds like something they might've done on techquickie already?
not sure
For monitor reviews my main source is still tft central but they are not the fastest / most frequent.
On youtube hardware unboxed is somewhat decent but yea good monitor reviews are few and far between.
i think rtings has some pretty good reviews
Seeing that I have an X570 motherboard as I didn't want to wait for B550 (oof), I figure I may as well use the capabilities of X570 to make it worth the upgrade; for one thing, I'm looking at PCIe Gen 4 SSDs, and so far in mind I am looking at a Seagate FireCuda 520 and Corsair Force MP600; which would be a more ideal purchase? Also, is there anything else in particular that uses PCIe4 or otherwise has a benefit on X570 compared to B550?
My motherboard, for reference, is the ASUS Tuf Gaming X570-Plus (Wi-Fi)
wait till ssd's with speeds like in the ps5 are out so you dont get a expensive ssd that can't handle ports later on is what I'd do
I see. By "can't handle ports later on" you mean...?
ps5 (and I guess xbox) are using ssds with minimum speeds to work
so its more likeyl that eventual ports will require the same or at least run much better if those specs are met
and so far you cant buy an ssd with the speeds ps5 will use
I see
From what I heard / read storage speed on pc will be less important as there will be more memory / video memory available especially in the future.
The main reason the fast storage on the new consoles is to rapidly stream textures and other assets from storage to memory.
If you have more memory available you can store more in memory requiring less fast storage.
That being said there may still be a point where having a decent nvme ssd will help.
As for the pci4 ones the most important factor is sustained performance over a reasonably large amount of time.
Most of the current pci4 ssd's can mostly allow for fast bursts which would not be that useful for streaming large amounts of game assets in.
I also wouldn't worry too much about future proofing an ssd as storage prices per tb will go down over time and the amount you need for games will go up.
The PS5 literally uses super fast NVMEs as cache drives though.
Not sure where you got "so much RAM" from.
My PC already has three times the RAM the new consoles will have
They need fast storage, and it'll still be barely enough
Haven't been able to max out my 16 GiB yet
13.5 was the highest I've hit in a game yet
Tbf, that was modded. Never seen a game exceed 8 GiB with vanilla settings yet
i had one, but i cannot remember which one it was..
I can get to 48gb with modded Minecraft
It would not be too hard to get dedicated (de-)compression hardware for PCs. FPGAs or ASICs on the PCIe bus as coprocessor for the IO instructions (which it would compress or decompress as need be) are probably the most likely solutions.
PCIe better work on its bandwidth sustained if needed as it would otherwise mean that total failure of the system with the CPU depending on it to access the system RAM, sata controllers, audio devices, usb controllers, bridge adapters. Then again 16 lanes of PCIe mean that it has 16 serial busses that can work indipendant from each other or as a 16bit paralell bus or any other legal configuration of lanes. PCIe 5.0 is going to be available soon with it being ratified and first controller presented late last year. PCIe 6.0 has been announed in development last year. With the trend of each revision doubling the bandwidth.
The bursting would only concern someone when the PCIe bus is busy and 65,535 outstanding commands fill the IO queue (per I/O Queue total of 65535 total supported). One command would be a read request of 4KiB at a time. note: PCI 4.0 can have around 2 GB/s per lane of traffic. NVMe Specification does not care for amount of PCIe lanes the NVM subsystem has. M.2 specifation however defines PCI (3.x or up) 4 lanes + one SATA 3.0 as maximum per interface. Currenly ssd over NVMe is the the best interface that it specifies, which is the PS5 ssds seem to be as well. But there is always the level 1,2 and 3 cache if speed is that critical to be needing even faster. connected directly on the cpu pcie lanes (not the chipset provided as this is marginally slower with abritration). But then it would be better to get another graphics card or upgrade over this, if drivers dont have support.
NVMe base specification: https://nvmexpress.org/wp-content/uploads/NVM-Express-1_4-2019.06.10-Ratified.pdf
PCIe and M.2 is handled by https://pcisig.com/ dont have it on hand.
no real news there
i mean, that is why america is banning tiktok no
:')
i mean, that is why america is banning tiktok no
@vagrant marsh Except that's not quite how that order went.
In fact the order is so vague and unspecific that Riot games might be affected and banned.
Imagine that
π
not really. white house confirmed the order only blocks transactions related to wechat
yes they probably didnt even know about epic/riot etc. but it's not affecting them unless they change it
Until they actually specify what that order actually means it won't affect anyone.
only matters if MS or whoever doesnt buy it till then anyway
hope they dont and it jsut gets shut down
That implies them wanting to sell it π
selling it or having the business closed, what is more likely?
I don't think they'll sell it, and will sue if Trump tries to shut them down.
funny part is that twitter is also in talks
meanwhile, remember vine, the same thing as tiktok that twitter shut donw? xD
@reef patrol apparently tencent related companies are unaffected
Only tencent themselves is
So wechat
apparently
And wechat pay
That's the whole point. The order is too vague to be used in a legal sense.
dont think that they can sue Trump as president
It's the US. They can sue someone π
Path of exile
Epic
List goes on
From what i got told by Americans it is only tencent directly though
They wouldn't be suing him anyhow. They'd be suing the state.
It's not like trump can push this through by himself. It has to be stamped by congress or somesuch.
Regardless of what you think of the data collection claims... A president having the potential power to ban any company from operating on their soil, and proceeding to blackmail them for ownership.
That's not going to go well longterm.
uh, isn't that the point of an executive order, that he can circumvent congress
patroit act will justify this somewhere
like I agree no president should have that power, but thats how the us always has been, most of the previous ones just had enough humanity in them to go the normal legislative process instead of using an EO
Well no - It really hasn't.
anyone else having the issue where pamac just freezes at 95%?
pacman
I use pacman for updates xd
thjis reminds me of the old windows ad :') IT COMES WITHG REVERSI!!!!!
"Presidential executive orders, once issued, remain in force until they are canceled, revoked, adjudicated unlawful, or expire on their terms" so I guess congress can change it, but only after it's in effect already, so it would be needed for tiktok to stop business if nothing changes
Tiktok is also being resistive and is suprised when it gets banned as a chinese based company with serveral national safety concerns. Not even willing to allow auditing to happen. They may claim Chinese government has no access to that data but that would ban them from China. So fair they get banned then
what a dissapointment this mouse has been :\ First the knob stops working and now middle mouse button has doubleclick esque issues (I have opened 2-4 tabs at times, and holding it down it might reset the point from where I get to scroll up pages etc)
roccat leadr btw
They could also make a us based shell company to make it much more harder to enforce this order legally
not really, just make an new EO or change the current one to include that new shell
But the shell follows the regulations
Then they could scream it was unjust. They followed the rules and still got punished. But now, it like a pub banning the drugsdealer for his shady bahaviour.
no they could just ban the shell interacting with china so they can't scream it unjust etc.
then they basically need to sell it and at that point it's a public deal and they cant just sell it to a shell company for a $
It would just market as the US version
I mean amd did the shell thing to sell zen1 cpus to china kinda and also stopped, bc if they wouldn't have stopped it on their own it would've been put on the list
They demanded the IP to be able to sell, right? With most likely reason that they want to steal and copy it.
doubt it
how many things did google copy that they then shut down
this isnt an ip you can take and expand on, you could only make a succesful copy if you shut it down
so why bother buying it in that case
That is a very common demand from China and then copies begin to pop up a lot
But they dont want the blame of encouriging and facilitating this
it hapens a lot i just dont see how that would here here
I really wonder
Why haven't AMD or Nvidia introduced a hard FPS lock in their drivers yet for VRR users, akin to RTSS?
AMD have Chill and FRTC, but neither works for that usecase
And I believe the Nvidia limiter is even worse in that regard
My OP3 can do that
seems blocky
looks fine? but idk if that was a sarcastic or honest comment
Sarcastic
But tbf, Discord heavily compresses that image
I'll mirror it then
jpg artifacts all over the place
That's even more compressed
Went from 372 KiB through Discord to 202 KiB through google
Looks alright
Iso blur could be less, though
use .raw instead π
Pupper π
I dunno why companies make it so difficult to transfer quality images over the web
It's not like they eat that much data, compared to video traffic
It adds up fast.
Case in point : I uploaded a pic to Imgur a while back that got viral. It has currently used 130GB of bandwidth alone.
is my assumption correct that SSHDs are terrible for games?
cause everytime you have to load something that isn;t in the fast cache the HDD has to spin up again
making access times gigantic
my assumption is SSHDs are terrible in general
lol
just ripped mine out
got a 2TB HDD from work that was not needed anymore
not even a lot of hours
better than normal hdd probasbly
nah
the regular HDD would already be spinning if you read data from it
so you get the regular access time
better in some cases*
well
only until you need something from the HDD part
and then it just gets MUCH worse
the stuff I need on an SSD goes on an SSD
if the disk isnt spinning
if it is ok on an HDD I put it on an HDD
The trouble with SSHDs that you have zero control over what gets cached and thus speed up.
I would say that but also the SSD cache is really small in most, considering the price of small sdd's even at their peak.
if you had like a 2tb hdd + 256gb ssd you would at least have a decent bit of cache to work with but no you get something like 16gb of ssd space at most
Hype
OMFG i fucking hate ISO
I have gotten usd to it, though the small left shift still sucks
rip
Disconnect the power if liquids got in and wash it with clean water afterwards dry as much and as fast that is possible.
...
yea, I try to keep my electronics as far as possible from any liquids
I litterally have my glass of water behind the keyboard
I will knock it down and murder everything no matter how much I try to avoid it
rip
Ultrasonic baths are magic for liquid damage
more sad to learn my proto type woot A key is broke
oof
As if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. I fear something terrible has happned. The clip is from "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope".
2p2t are pretty stable, not good for keyboards tho
hmm
its pretty good
condition wise
dont see any signs of internal dmg
90% oF the liquid poured onto my desk x\d
when i lifted it
haha
Better than in the keyboard
uh ooh some key being shorted or confused?
i keep my drinks far away from my mice and keyboard for that reason smh
one test is to look if the infrared led is on using a smartphone as they can often detect Infrared (usually very pink on screen). Good as sanity check when working with infrared
some will have the ir filter so those wont work, but they are quite rare as it costs money while most wont notice the effects.
oohhh
errr
mmmm
yes
make sure the soap is also washed off
mostly just wash with clean water afterwards
ohh keycaps, not the pcb and switches?
Washing keycaps is pretty satisfing to play with
is that vivaldi android
i wish it can come to ios
it's nice, but I want to switch over to android to see the other side of things
I mostly had to use ios for things it's not particulary good at. Typing passwords on the default keyboard, debugging weird safari issues, moving files between it and non apple devices.
So yea my opinion is not particulary positive.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1kK6CBJdmug nice, more solid evidence to proof amd fanbois are still just lacking braincells
There's a common belief that "Ryzen is smoother" in online forums, but most people are mistaking overall upgrades as a pure Ryzen change, and data does not support this blanket statement.
Sponsor: be quiet! Pure Base 500DX (on Amazon https://geni.us/fIdH46k)
At 19:20, we acc...
Realisticly AMD being smoother is probably a placebo reinforced by the perception ryzen is smoother.
Placebo's are powerful things and should not be underestimated.
Yup
tf is "smoother" supposed to mean
Basically, more consistent frame times and lower latency in games
Something most people will feel when upgrading to a better CPU
The only point they got is that some of the fixes intel had to do to fix their sieves caused worse performance and some microstutter at times, particularly on the older uarches
smoother usually means you feel less stutter, so consistent frame times etc.
most cases as said in the video it's just a new pc so it feels better and r/amd thinks the cpus are "better" than intel in some weird way
And in multi threaded programs amd mostly does better, but in gaming intel stil performs better.
Eh, wouldnβt say the 10600k is ahead by only a margin
But besides that one, others arenβt really worth it
Gotta include motherboard in the pricing.
And unless you don't mind being stuck with low speed RAM, you're going Z.
But yes - The FPS difference is pretty minor at this point.
Ryzen WAS smoother back in 2017 when this discussion was relevant. Intel's best processor was 4C back then and ryzen with 8 cores was smoother in frametimes aswell was the speculated percieved smoothness of having USB ports on CPU die (which was one of the original arguments)
well
you can't just say "they are smoother in frametimes"
it is very dependant on engine etc
you know very well, if more cores made it smother, that was bc more cores if apps could make use of it, no bc "ryzen"
and a lot of people also said windows etc. felt smoother
which was bs in attributing that to amd
more cores make it smoother
since the game doesn't have to share 4C/8T with all other applications
so at most, for the 4 months before CFL, amd was giving an option that allowed you to get more cores that could potentially cause higher 1% lows with lower fps in games
and not really a "smoother" experience elsewhere
also in the intro of that video you even see someone compared 9th gen vs zen2 so it's not a 2017 argument really

and tbf bigger cache makes it smoother
storage -> pci4 -> cpu is also smoother than storage -> pcie3 -> chipset > pcie 3 > cpu
Less hitching π
oh I fully intend to switch to zen3
but that doesnt mean im delusional about how stuff works
how does a bigger cache make it smoother if frametime is not lower or more consistent
bigger cache obviously shows in frametime in games that take advantage of it
ok but since basically no game does that, as shown in the video, it therefor is not "smoother"
Do you argue against direct nvme ssd access on ryzen vs intel?
so the age old wisdom of wiping your harddrive to make windows faster still stands
no I argue against interpreting 10ms on ryzen vs 10ms on intel as ryzen being smoother
dawd why do you think ryzen is faster than intel in CSGO? Cache.,
the biggest fps change in that video was clearly having a "clean" windows
the stuff you mention can lead to lower frametimes/more consistency, but if it doesn't, then it doesnt make it smoother
having the potential to be smoother and being smoother are 2 different beasts imo
I'm not arguing for cases when nothing takes use of such things, im not stupid (or maybe a bit)
well right now you are because there is around 0 cases of this being used anywhere
xdd
nearly all games use storage, especially non-lobby based games. Lobby based games can use cache to improve frametimes
2-0 to AMD
yes but that big cache is already being used to catch up to intel, without it zen2 would be far behind
its not like zen2 is about equal with intel and then has a bigger cache too
if your frametime without fetching anything is 10ms vs 15 ms, and then intel has smaller cache so it needs another 3ms to fetch something, 13 is still less than 15 in the end (random numbers yes, more about the general idea)
on pc nothing is getting optimized to that level, that would be something consoles get, so maybe that trickles down to amd cpus on pc, but /right now/ amd is not "smoother"
Yeah if you're playing SP ports ofc not.. Find PC only games
But then again you're looking at those SP port benchmarks anyway
if you compare 4c vs 8c, thats more cores being smoother, if you compare 8c vs 8c, amd is /not/ "smoother"
it definitely /can/ be smoother but it aint, also intel can be smoother too it just depends on optimizations currently
To know the level of the smoothness you need to put IHS surface under microscope
bold of you to assume I'm not using direct die cooling
@ashen spindle https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/i8uw6f/the_ryzen_is_smoother_misconception_1445_in_the/ did you see this already?
Can't wait for better PCIE 4 based nvme drives
Although wish I could fork over cash for a PCIE 4 optane drive from micron
That access latency
I mean, yeah that will be nice and make stuff better but I cant imagine any game where that is the cause of the worst frametime spikes
making the already consistent parts "more consistent" is nice but not the thing you notice
Have you tried open world SP games or mmorpgs? Know that hitching when new vistas/scenes are being loaded? Ever played BDO?
does witcher 3 and gta5 count?
