I can't see it so it gotta be good, oh there it is

plucky bone
#

Theres a 50" option too that is 10% cheaper

fair gull
#

4009 koreans off

plucky bone
#

Hehe

ashen spindle
#

is Kjøp the budget kpop variant?

#

also no clue about tvs

#

oh, here comes the conspiracy, amd made cpu chiplets bc on gpu side they noticed they cant make big chips gloryKeK

shadow minnow
#

QLED sucks

plucky bone
#

@shadow minnow QLED, 500$ LED or 1300$ OLED?

shadow minnow
#

Same with white text on black screen

plucky bone
#

Hmm, ok so QLED is not worth

shadow minnow
#

Also, cheaper QLED monitors have not enough zones

#

I mean, oddiseys g7/9 marketing looked like they have 200+ zones

#

In reality, g9 has ten, g7 8

#

Do you like this monitor ? lul

plucky bone
#

Ah, I want a TV not monitor

#

For movies and tv series

shadow minnow
#

I mean, TVs are lot better than monitors for that

#

TVs are far better about things like contrast ratio, image quality...

plucky bone
#

Oof I would not be able to live with a monitor like that

shadow minnow
#

It will usually not look that bad

#

I mean, if OLED just was not that expensive and had completely solved burn in 😦

plucky bone
#

:(

#

Maybe I should just get a LED TV and get an OLED when I grt a job

#

Cant really justify the burn in

#

Btw how do you get certified?

shadow minnow
#

Do you have LE preordered? @plucky bone

plucky bone
#

No, I signed up too late, I should have gotten the wooting one like 8 days ago tough

shadow minnow
#

Than you can not get certified Lekker, but if you have Wooting one, then you could be wooting member

#

@reef patrol you here?

reef patrol
shadow minnow
#

Sounds like @plucky bone should get wooting member role, or at least, if I understood correctly he has / has ordered Wooting one

reef patrol
#

You know the rules - And So - do - Iiiiiiiii
Just gotta post a pic of the Board setup in #archived_wootstations

ivory geyser
#

@plucky bone have you contacted the wooting support about this?

shadow minnow
plucky bone
#

No pepecry

ivory geyser
#

@reef patrol technically I posted a video of mine. Does it still count? 👀

reef patrol
#

You already have the role, greedy monkey!

ivory geyser
shadow minnow
ivory geyser
#

@plucky bone you should contact the support. For real.

shadow minnow
#

Or greedy falcondragon lul

plucky bone
#

Ok

reef patrol
#

We're waiting for your call...or mail rather 😄

ashen spindle
#

did you get tracking?

#

if you got tracking no point in talking to support but rather to the postal service

ivory geyser
#

@shadow minnow space-chaos-eldritch-gryphon, thank-you-very-much!

shadow minnow
#

Rather just call me bexin / confused lul

#

You know the rules - And So - do - Iiiiiiiii
Just gotta post a pic of the Board setup in #archived_wootstations
@reef patrol problem is many people do not read rules, and even those who do, they may forget (I have also forgotten lol)

plucky bone
#

Yeah, it had not veen 10 days

#

It has been 13 days since I ordered pepecry

ashen spindle
#

and no tracking still?

plucky bone
#

Ye

ashen spindle
#

ye then just send them an email

plucky bone
#

It said I would get an email when it was sent but I have not gotten one

#

I just did! :)

reef patrol
#

I promise to look at it tomorrow. For now... bedtiem 😄

shadow minnow
#

Night mansen

mental basin
#

So.... I didn't really want to have to invest into soldering a LED or something to my mouse to test inputlag on games so I tried a ton of makeshift things

#

in general keyboards had terrible button to LED delay, like... majority had 20-30ms

#

but the glorious model o came in clutch

#

on button press the LED changes color within 1-4ms (240fps camera, but I'm very confident it's 1ms)

#

so I now have a great way of testing inputlag without any expensive fancy setup

old marlin
#

can tell you rn that the input delay on it is a lot bigger

mental basin
#

on?

old marlin
#

on the model d or o

#

whatever that is

mental basin
#

yes but that doesn't matter

#

because the LED is changing on click confirm

#

not on click latency

#

;P

old marlin
#

sits at 4.1 above ikari

#

and that also is not perfect

#

so probably like 8ms total

mental basin
#

what...?

#

I'm not sure where the problem lies outside of the fact that it's not accurate to the decimals and is still forced to be confirmed through eyes / high speed fps camera, it's more than enough to check different inputlag on v sync modes, non v sync, vrr, DWM disabled, framerate limiting etc.

old marlin
#

there is no problem

#

but you get more accurate results with bump testing to a reference mouse

mental basin
#

the LED is changing on when the click is confirmed, I'm only taking a look at the LED color change and luckily for me the LED color change is happening on when the click is confirmed

#

LED color change = input is registered, take a look at screen, see the inputlag from when the input was registered through high speed camera.

old marlin
#

yea

#

can tell you that it is not accurate though

plucky bone
#

Oi

#

Where link pls

ashen spindle
#

mindfactory

old marlin
#

too bad I need a sata drive

#

and can't fit another m.2 one in my laptop

plucky bone
#

Just swnd me your old one :)

#

Its 109€ for me

old marlin
#

lol

#

still a good price

#

also my laptop has two in a raid

#

really only want to replace my hdd though

#

since 5600 rpm SUUUUCKS

reef patrol
#

That's not really cheap though

plucky bone
#

Wait, this is just a normal ssd in m.2 formal

#

Format

reef patrol
#

No it's NVME

plucky bone
#

It is 550mb up/down

#

Ah

reef patrol
#

Still not cheap though

plucky bone
#

^

reef patrol
#

The 109€ is just normal price here

plucky bone
#

Same

old marlin
#

wait really

#

wtf

#

they have come down in price a lot then

#

cause a sata one is like 10 euros cheaper

reef patrol
#

Yep.

old marlin
#

fml

pale sigil
#

Tbh that drive has its issues too

#

From what I gathered

#

But also what mansen said

ashen spindle
#

intel 660p are also around the price and prob a safe bet for QLC drives

#

or 665p now

reef patrol
#

Yeah there's a lot of choices now.

old marlin
#

ehhh

#

I'll prolly get a WD blue 1tb drive

#

those seem to be the best bang for the buck

#

for that size of drive at least

ashen spindle
#

idk with the recent SMR debacle at WD I probably trust intel more in that regard

#

(in the nand sector, not in general lul)

old marlin
#

SMR should not be a problem in NAND dogeKek

#

also you couldn't trust any HDD manufacturer then

#

also I need sata

ashen spindle
#

yeah and intel doesnt make HDDs gloryKeK

old marlin
#

which intel does not do in 2.5"

#

well anymore at least

ashen spindle
#

get a nvme to sata adapter and get a 2.5 intel nvme lul

old marlin
#

lol

#

needs to fit in my laptop

#

and that is more expensive

ashen spindle
#

that reminds me, wonder how mad the optane guys at intel are, that they basically get shafted bc intel doesnt have pcie4 out when amd has it for liek a year gloryKeK

old marlin
#

lol

#

and then pcie x4 gets supported for one gen

ashen spindle
#

could be more or less tbh

#

we dont really know yet

#

not even 100% yet that RKL will have it

#

dont have a leaked ES that would tell us afaik

fair gull
#

@old marlin i mean ure limited with wd anyway to green (ssd), blue (hdd) or red (nas hdd) for 2,5inch

old marlin
#

?

#

I'd get a wd blue ssd

fair gull
#

blues come as ssd? wot

old marlin
#

Since they have good warranty

#

Ye

#

And they are not that expensive

fair gull
#

i only ever saw greens

#

and thus kinda stayed away from wd ssd

#

prefered hp and samsung

reef patrol
#

"Blue" is such a line of disks.

#

They make them in all form factors.

#

Same with green and black.

#

Green for discount, Blue for average user, Black for Purrfurmance.

fair gull
#

green is for puke

#

cause thats what u gonna do

ashen spindle
#

no green is nvidia so you need to install your WD green in your gpu

#

oh lmao, I completely forgot mindfactor was a eu shop yesterday, so the RMA numbers are actually useless, since they include 14 day returns with no reason etc.

old marlin
#

Lol

ashen spindle
#

guess we know powercolor = bad as the only takeaway lul

fair gull
#

the question is do they include those or not

ashen spindle
#

apparently so

fair gull
#

since they could have prefiltered the numbers

ashen spindle
#

guess in the end it only made amd fanboy's denial of driver issues etc. even stronger rip

fair gull
#

amd has driver issues? wot

#

thats news to me

ashen spindle
#

I think frontier and el capitan are amazing bc they will cause non-amd people to work on the software stack

#

but that's 2021/23 so it'll be a while before they can fix it all lmao

#

and then its mostly CDNA focused on gpu side so idk how much that trickles down to rdna

wheat plume
#

what do these symbols mean?

ashen spindle
#

idk that looks weird

#

have you tried googling it

wheat plume
#

might just be my fish prompt theme also

ashen spindle
#

is this your own repo?

wheat plume
#

yup

ashen spindle
#

Idk then

#

Prob your shell

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah basically those fancy shell prompts simply run something like git status and parse the output of that

wheat plume
#

ahh

#

oh, I didnt run git add .

#

ooof ok

reef patrol
#

Welcome to Web 8.0

wheat plume
#

how tf you type this url? :')

reef patrol
#

In windows you hit Win+ .

#

That brings up the Emoji keyboard.

wheat plume
ashen spindle
#

could also do the only sensible thing and refuse to use any website putting emoji in a link

wheat plume
#

i found this in the github repo for starship prompt

#

:')

#

doesnt show when I paste it

#

odd

ashen spindle
#

no it does, just doesnt get converted into the emoji

wheat plume
#

oh %F0

ashen spindle
#

no all of that and not just the first part ofc

wheat plume
#

oh wow

#

that isnt all of it yeh nvm lel

ashen spindle
#

%F0%9F%8C%B1

wheat plume
#

yeah..... danng

zenith sonnet
halcyon moss
#

time to practice my german :p

fair gull
#

@halcyon moss the tl;dr is accurate

#

and not much to say otherwise

halcyon moss
#

does it say why? so far it was just a listing of models and their rates..

thick elk
#

The sheet is also returns within 14 days so not nessesarily defects from what I heard.
Also I think looking at the sheets again it speaks more about the board partner than amd / nvidia.
Powercolor being pretty terrible and msi having both 1.99% on nvidia and amd.

fair gull
#

mainly what quintosh said earlier

thick elk
#

I think the only reasonable conclution you could draw is the xfx thick 2 or anything made by powercolor is pretty risky.

ashen spindle
#

personally I still have the suspicion that we will see more rma's on rdna2 than on ampere

#

bc we already see slightly higher ones on rdna, and the dies are much smaller than turing

#

iirc the atrifacting issue early 2080ti's had was found out to be mounting pressure caused, so even the really big dies seem to be quite reliable

thick elk
#

I think the rma rate has mostly to do with the board partners and software rather than the actual silicon. The chips themselves probably fail a lot less than the vrm / fans on the boards. That being said Nvidia drives the higher sales numbers still, so I would expect the boards on nvidia's side to be a bit higher quality on average. On the software side from what I understand AMD's windows drivers are a bit more prone to breaking on upgrades which may also cause more rma's.

ashen spindle
#

but many aib's deliver gpus for both of them so that kinda equals it out, not like they all are exclusive

#

also always a unkown degree of how much is amd/nvidia at fault for a faulty chip vs the foundry who made it

#

also doesnt help that amd made shit tier reference designs that cause more heat and thus more issues

ashen spindle
#

great, was looking into more data, see new rumours and check them out

#

apparently people now think, bc zen2 is chiplet, that means amd can easily make chiplet gpus now for rdna3

#

god no wonder they dont understand something as simple as rma rates

ashen spindle
#

in unrelated news, amd stock is on the rise again for seemingly no reason lmao

#

x% of frontier owners also still have driver issues having the card not work

#

or radeonvii

#

cant remember which one it was

wheat plume
fair gull
#

zsh might but who knows i dont switch away from bash

ashen spindle
#

you know at some point Im just confused why you'd not just use a GUI if you basically tweak your cmd to look like one

wheat plume
#

this doesnt look like a gui :')

fair gull
#

i mean u certainly try to get ide/gui features into ur shell

#

so quin has a point

wheat plume
#

what?

#

mpv and git are command line tools

fair gull
#

no the whole coloring and shit

wheat plume
#

oh, fish does this normally

fair gull
#

ya but its more akin of what gui apps do

#

than shells

wheat plume
#

its nice to have, it turns red if you give it an invalid option

#

so you dont run it

fair gull
#

so it either has a db of what can run with which executeable, it runs them silently in a sandbox to check or it searches man pages

#

imo all 3 kinda eh solutions

wheat plume
#

iirc it checks man pages

fair gull
#

plus running all these checks for almost no reason sounds like a waste of cpu cycles

crimson wigeon
#

Eh it's nothing clever really, the clever CPU cycle eating stuff only really happens when you hit tab

fair gull
#

save the cycles

zenith sonnet
#

The RMA sheet also looked at Super cards mostly(only?), which are a refresh. PCGH pointed out, that the original Turing cards had higher return rates as well

#

Some math and rounding errors aside...

#

They have a wafer agreement with GF?

#

Need to make SOMETHING there

ashen spindle
#

prob bc its easier to have the 580 over a downscaled rdna card that might perform worse perf/power wise lul

zenith sonnet
#

Gives them more time to make RDNA3

ashen spindle
#

oh another point might be, if the 580 was made on GloFo and not TSMC, they might still have some waver deals that need to be fullfilled, but I think zen2 IO dies completed that

ashen spindle
#

ah looks like the wafer agreemend was 12nm till '21 so I guess I misremembered the part about it being a specific ammount

ashen spindle
#

Meanwhile intel‘s GPU venture seems completely like a failure, sadly. Doubt we see a attempt 3 from them ever again

mental basin
#

honestly im fine with that

#

im waiting so anxiously on nvidia's 3000 series

#

i wanna see this "50%" improvement

#

so it can drop the 2080 cards value by a million

ashen spindle
#

50% sure, just not at 1080p

fickle ore
#

@ashen spindle it's also good idea to bear in mind that smaller node ages faster.. So if turing was not 7nm but rdna was, then it can explain some 0,% differences

mental basin
#

lmao thats great

ashen spindle
#

yeah and then all those fake leaks were true

#

really great job jensen

mental basin
#

ROFL

#

im dying

ashen spindle
#

also wtf is "smaller node ages faster"

#

you mean smaller nodes are not as mature yet?

fickle ore
#

no, the small size makes them age faster, and if the silicon is already bad it can die before RMA period is over

ashen spindle
#

tf does age faster mean

#

electromigration?

fickle ore
#

that and couple other things which are accelerated at smaller node sizes

ashen spindle
#

im pretty sure thats not realated

#

if anything a better v/f curve should lessen that

#

if that would matter than much we would've seen insane loss in lifespan relatively in older cpu/gpus already

fickle ore
#

heat density increases as packages become much smaller, while yes more effective, but increased performance/clock cycle, so in the end they pull about the same W as before with larger packages e.g. 7nm vs 12nm

ashen spindle
#

efficency increases aswell thats why zen2 can work on 95W vs intel needing 200+W

fickle ore
#

to be fair you're comparing 10yo architecture with 2 year old architecture so its not apples to apples

#

it's a good read

ashen spindle
#

sure it feels like 10 but's just 5 years for skylake

#

and the issue is more on 14nm than the uArch

#

and yes, we are coming to an area where we are needing GAAFET etc. but EUV and similar are also used for 7nm to make it better than 10nm without skippiing finfet

fickle ore
#

Yep. But faster aging silicon will happen with smaller nodes sadly

ashen spindle
#

but not to such an extreme extend

fickle ore
#

I said it might account for 0,1-1% differences in the RMA amounts, doubt anyone did a research on it

#

Where did I say it's extreme?

#

:p

ashen spindle
#

some 0,% differences, that would mean much more than up to 1% of the rma'd units

fickle ore
#

0,% meaning 0,000001% to 0,9999999999% so within 1%

ashen spindle
#

yes but to explain any relevant difference, it'd need to be more than 1% of rma'd cases

#

for that we dont even have enough data points

fickle ore
#

Yeah I'm not trying, just saying to bear in mind it's there. No need to prove it, it already is an issue. So better cooling/lower ambient becomes much more meaningful as we go smaller in nodes

ashen spindle
#

amd and better cooling gloryKeK

fickle ore
#

@prisma crag Yeah I do that too. Which is why I never buy 2nd hand.. 2-3 warranty is worth me more than 20-30$ discounts

ashen spindle
#

thankfully not relevant here, eu rma is nice

fickle ore
#

still that eu warranty is usually max 2-3 yrs

#

Lol

#

I'm done buying ASUS products. MSI sucks.. ASrock is Asus.. so basically forced to buy Gigabyte these days ;_;

#

sry to hear

ashen spindle
#

asrock is asus? what

old marlin
#

asrock WAS asus

ashen spindle
#

new amd driver, whats under known issues

#

Some games may exhibit stutter intermittently during gameplay on Radeon RX 5000 series graphics products.

#

nice

reef tundra
#

Then upgrade to Radean Rx 6000 series

ashen spindle
#

HDMI also ssems to not work fine, audio and fps issues over hdmi

#

god I hope nvidia reworks they policy and how they handle software so it's easier to work with so you dont need to decide between good software stack with terrible access or good access on terrible sw stack

reef tundra
#

hdmi is unkool anyways. DP is less royalties collecting

mental basin
#

the only thing i know is im waiting for the day a card will be as valuable and good as the gtx 980 ti

#

what a goddamn freak card of its time

reef patrol
#

Not sure I'd call it a great card... it eats more power than a 2080 xD

reef tundra
#

Brah, the valve index is just 1 k.

#

also getting a used videocard is usually budget friendly. former mining videocards are very cheap, as silicon doesnt wear that much and usually the fans are the failure. So replace those for 10 euros and ez

#

last gen? its pretty modern compared to the rest of the market

#

dont follow the vr market much so could have missed something

#

But biggest feature in vr is probably the frame rate and display resolution. Belief that motion sickness is concidered to be better with better screens.

mental basin
#

biggest part about VR is latency reduction

#

and that makes me happy

#

working on lowering latency seems like a dying breed at times

#

with each windows update lol

reef tundra
#

Heard somewhere that Alyx was made as testing ground for their vr. Then they developed it to be what it is now. With the expectation that it would be a flop, but it wasnt

frozen anchor
#

windows in general isnt the best for low latency anyways

reef tundra
#

It is a really nice vr game that has really robust compatebility with non-index headsets. Which they did not have to.. but they did anyway. Ofcource the index has the most interactivity, as it has force sensors for every finger

#

which most dont

#

but it tries to render as authentic as the input allows

#

Dont forget to crush the can

#

vr itself is very odd. actually having it on and watching footage of it. Is distinctly different. The brain just fools itself into making it real, which it normally doesnt do.

#

so much that it becomes the character, falling is like actual fall. Having a mininuke fly past you creates the feeling of terror

#

its great

#

and good

#

and satisfying

#

and nightmare on demand

#

the many buttons, 1 hour to take off game?

#

just to crash few seconds later as the plane responded odd, due to missing settings

#

Kerbal space program is more my style. easy take off so you can quickly learn you are not a aircraft engineer. With solution being more engines

#

but nothing beats some warcrimes in rimworld

#

The game that inspired the geneva convention. /s

#

Star Citizen looks in discust of how cheap it is

#

70 dollars for a virtual plane? 500 take it or leave it

#

but the big question is, are warcrimes allowed in DCS? else it aint even fun, I need to be able to be the immoral human that is so horrible that it is not a warcrime yet

#

Napalm and nukes?

#

Tssss, cant even carpet bomb a heavyly populated city cus lol?

#

yea, rimwold has made me like this

#

Get raided. Kill them. take prisoners. take organs. turn meat into fuel. send antimatter rocket and mortar. nuke their home. gift the unprocessed human meat as gift to increase goodwill. turn human leather into hats. sell hats for profit. cool and normal

#

it is not

#

colony management

#

the lite version of dwarffortress

#

and that is uemmm the hagues worst nightmare

#

Something for the timepolice to solve

#

star citizen is really ambisious, which might be the reason it could fail. It tries to be everything game but the (founders?) thought that the game wont need money and thus did a permanent loan with a transfer of ownership of said load to the loaner for a period of infinite time. Man needs a home somehow. even tho it was already low on funds compared to the expected costs when he did that.

#

its odd

#

Elite dangerous van also be an interresting title to look at.

frozen anchor
#

While elite dangerous is pretty much a full game it feels like a grindfest pretty soon

true quest
#

anyone hear about the valve index price drop

#

nvm just someone spreading rumors

reef tundra
#

if anything it means the price can be raised 🙂

vagrant marsh
#

i got a problem with windows 10, maybe some1 here knows how to fix it. so i got a -file-, just a generic file as example on the desktop. i drag and drop it into a map. instead of moving the file, it makes a copy of the file and put it into the map. so now i got 2 files. how do i make it move the file, instead of copy/pasting it?

reef patrol
#

Hold right mouse button while dragging.

#

Or right click and say CUT

#

And then PASTE

#

Windows defaults to copying files and folders if it's on another drive.

vagrant marsh
#

ah

reef tundra
#

control x and control v also work

#

with control x making the selected file grayed out and it moves the files instead of copy the files. Thus one copy still exists

#

control v is to paste

halcyon moss
#

it only does that when its ona different drive right?

reef patrol
#

As far as I know, yes.

#

Otherwise it just moves.

reef tundra
#

Yes, has to do with people being genuises and moving the file and proceeding to kill the harddrive

#

thus killing the only copy of the file and having a angry person callling them

#

cus it cannot be user fault, but the operating system sould have been senseble

#

And yes that is exactly what would happen, dont underestame how much users can destroy everythinh

old marlin
#

and CDs can't handle it

halcyon moss
#

an other way of looking at it, its the fastest way to do it

#

move on the same disk is just changing a reference, can't do that on a different drive

vagrant marsh
#

which is weird, cause these are 2 drives on the same operating system

#

cant they be programmed to be seen as just 1 big drive?

old marlin
#

that has nothing to do with that

#

you can't just change the reference to point to another drive

vagrant marsh
#

why not?

#

are IT people really that limited?

#

🤤

reef tundra
#

lvm2 can do that but adds like 2 seconds to boot time and makes both drives able to wipe ur data

#

and that is bloat so it is gone

old marlin
#

ok

#

so you just teleport the data to the next drive?

ashen spindle
#

just change pointer to the other drive, duhh

vagrant marsh
#

i just think its weird why 2 drives cant be programmed to behave like 1 big drive. sure, they are both on their own connection. but if i install a game shared over the 2 drives, shouldnt it be logical that if a file is needed that it simply searches both drives until the file is found? i mean, arnt we living with nvme that has supposidly high data rates?

crimson wigeon
#

Yes that's what stuff like RAID can do

reef tundra
#

just symlink

#

further

#

long filesystem

#

brrr

vagrant marsh
#

we are living in 2020 already, we dont have to work with 1990 logic anymore

#

jeez

reef tundra
#

Raid is basic and I dont like it cus lol

vagrant marsh
#

😆

ashen spindle
#

the year we live in hardly changes how physics work

crimson wigeon
#

If you're using Windows, Storage Spaces (but that is more likely going to nuke your data), Linux... LVM, or a FS that supports multiple devices (Btrfs perhaps, or ZFS if you're like that)

reef tundra
#

Imagine an operating system that you can own and do with what you please

ashen spindle
#

raid is the most common thing close to what you have in mind but doesnt work the way you imagine it

reef tundra
#

insanity

vagrant marsh
#

sure, when using hard drives, i fgure its too slow to make the system search both drives until all files are found. but with m.2 memory, shouldnt it be fast enough that within a second of a second it found everything needed?

reef tundra
#

Why not go full big brain and ssd raid 0 100 drives lets go

#

redundancy is a myth. you dont want more speed or something?

vagrant marsh
#

we already got more speed.

reef tundra
#

but what if it was even more speed.

vagrant marsh
#

do i look like a ps5 to you

It need to be so fast that throwing my pc is slower than sending it normally

I call it the system break test

cus it end with broken system

maybe physical maybe one drive crached and raid lost its configuration

but what ever it leads to one thing is certain, its unable to utilise the speed and breaks often. But cost a lot it does

also, 2070 super end of life'd apparently, so we might get a launch of rtx 3080ti/80/70 and others later, like with the 20 series

nvidia has lost count and reinvent the counting system

ashen spindle

you think amd makes more sense? 580, 7, 64, 5700

reef tundra

that is how many lines the head was doing during the project

ashen spindle

time to recommend the software guys to do 5700 lines then

old marlin

uhhhh

what?

3000 has to come out very soon then

ashen spindle

ye

reef tundra

4k displays can be too much for some setups. At some point the pixels become undistict yet they still cost money

ashen spindle

gamescom is this month, so expect announcement there

just like 2 years ago

old marlin

rip gamescom

reef tundra

high refresh rate is for me more important than the pixels 1080 has served me well

old marlin
#

wanted to meet up with some european friends there

reef tundra
#

but dont buy the cheapest 4k display they are horrible

#

cus they did everything to cheapout and just reach that marktable of being "4k"

pale sigil
#

i know

#

isn't my choice im afraid

reef tundra
#

there is a difference between the cheapest option and cheap/budget option

#

with one being bearable

#

and usually just a little more expensive

pale sigil
#

remember the hd ready days?

#

xD

reef tundra
#

aw hell yea 720 p hype

#

even tho most people and forums refered hd as 1080p

#

marketing didnt care and redefined it to be better to see on the box than on the display

#

which is the last place i care about the image quality

#

because i have to throw the boxes away anyways as it will other wise just lay around and collect dust for that what if moment just for it to be thrown years later away

#

Just like consumables in games just use em have fun or it will remain unused and pointless, while telling yourself that maybe you need it not now but the next time even more?

#

just to repeat it

#

also witcher 3 consumables are cheap. One alcohol refills all. Learned that half way into my second deathmarch playthrough

#

then realised had probably more than 100 alcohol and made me feel the hoarder that I am

zenith sonnet
#

Oh god

#

I never really needed any of the stuff they pack you with in the Witcher 3

#

I had thousands of ingredients

#

Also, seems like AMD hit $100B market cap, about half that of intel now

reef tundra
#

Deathmarch makes those a little better untill food lasts 20 minutes lol

#

then masacre some animal collect some lump of meat and it lasts for the rest of your playthrough XD

#

or walk around a city and collect "lost" goods

zenith sonnet
#

I was playing highest difficulty, don't remember the name

#

Tbh, it could have used another difficulty up

ashen spindle
#

couldnt find one that shows market cap sadly

reef tundra
#

amd machine goes brrrrrrrrrr

ashen spindle
#

but I think amd is around 100b now and intel like 210b

reef tundra
#

AMD's ceo has really saved the company really nice. Pretty much, do what we good at, dont make what do are not good at

ashen spindle
#

yup

#

well, in software that hopefully isnt the case, dont want them to not do that at all anymore gloryKeK

reef tundra
#

Intel dominates the server space and amd has little chance to change this. personal pc, this was their domain in the 2000s

#

consoles seem to be good marktet for amd aswell. intel doesnt deliver same apu power

ashen spindle
#

Uhh you are really mistaken about them not having a chance in servers

#

Not even bc zen is better, just bc server owners learn that they can’t trust intel roadmaps anymore

reef tundra
#

yea, try telling the sysadmin that when intel 'just' works.

ashen spindle
#

except they dont bc you literally need pcie4 for A100 systems, or when you have to patch yet another specter flaw on intel etc.

#

at this point ARM is the bigger issue than intel for amd

reef tundra
#

Linux allows you to disable these patches xd 33% of performace returned

#

yea cant really fault the architecture

ashen spindle
#

cant disable them if its mission critical

#

even then, memory/vrm encryption for example is an option on amd for like 1% cpu usage, not even possible on intel

reef tundra
#

if forced to be backward compatebiel with a 4 bit microprocessor from the 60s. and even then intel engineers rushed that chip to market not knowing how important it would be.

ashen spindle
#

point is, intel needs to fix 7nm or they have lost servers fully

reef tundra
#

sometimes it just needs a chop in that chain which arm did. and the 7nm is more a their inhouse technology is garbage

#

they wanted to use that hip and cool thing which barely works for that scale

ashen spindle
#

yeah so thats a issue of management wanting stuff where they have no clue

reef tundra
#

its crusial for intel to quickly resolve this else AMD will be given a free generation of advantage and rep

#

seems managent is holding back a little extremely much

ashen spindle
#

that is what is happening right now

reef tundra
#

instead of here money make it

ashen spindle
#

they needed to replace board of directors when the 10nm fiasco started, not just now when 7nm is DoA

reef tundra
#

or change attitude the let engineer innvate instead of making what the boards think the market needs.

#

its like the engineers know the market

ashen spindle
#

yeah, for that you need to replace the board bc they are not engineers

#

the CEO is a financial guy

reef tundra
#

I wont cry too hard for intel. This is a wide swing that started years ago, they hoped that they could ignore the problem away

ashen spindle
reef tundra
#

well know it hits em

#

will they respond or ignore amd;s second win

#

This is really bad for brand image

#

the underdog that can do better than the one with a lot more money to burn and dominant for decade

#

enthousiast market is pretty much gone

#

casual market amd begins to be a lot more common

#

Risk-V begins slowly enter the marktet, with the advantage of free and opensource ISA.

#

will need some more years to gain trust and familiairity in its users

#

also intel needs to stop with their abritrary hiding/disabling features. it just makes the other side a lot sweeter.

pale sigil
#
ashen spindle
#

normal price

misty pier
#

not too bad

reef tundra
#

seems to be normal pricing.

#

also the ram pricing has stayed pretty stable recently with it seeming to slowly lower in price. From the limited information that is availble on ram. So seems to be good time to buy, might fall but fires can double the cost, lol.

#

also check if mobo likes the frequency, ddr, dual. It can sometimes ruin someones day... until you read the manual and did not put any stick onthe mentioned slot in the manual

ashen spindle
#

if a board cant do 3200 you are buying something from 10 years ago lmao

reef tundra
#

eh true, but best to mention as ddr3 is still a thing. somehow

#

probabl=y because its cheap and it kinda looks the same thus somehow must be the same

#

Users make me scared of them being near the pc

ashen spindle
#

if you are buying ddr3 ram when you need ddr4 you need a lot more help than someone pointing out to read a manual lmao

reef tundra
#

Just need a bussiness man that found a hole in the markt and it just doesnt get it. And you are bound to arive there

#

and you tell em it wont work but get dismissed and just comply. Just to later learn that it wont work

#

Always love the hear that IT means anything that uses power and also those what doesnt.

halcyon moss

halcyon moss

gosh, installing ubuntu in KVM is slow as hell

silk blade

where is the qcow2 located?

because i have it on a ssd and there installing any os (haven't testet ubuntu specially but debian is quite fast)

halcyon moss
#

an ssd

silk blade
#

hmhm

#

you use the virtio-scsi and set the bustype to scsi? (virtio bustype should be fine as well, as i think they enables trimming support on there too)

halcyon moss
#

ehh.. no idea :p
Its just for running unifi, as it is a complex thing. otherwise it would run in docker

fair gull
#

imo unifi docker and rpi are both the best options

#

just saying as a ubiquiti owner

silk blade
#

i guess you use libvirt? when yes check that its not set to ide

halcyon moss
#

crap forgot to install sshd -_-

silk blade
#

but i use unifi in an lxc

#

works find

halcyon moss
#

hm, lxc is different than kvm?

silk blade
#

yeah

#

lxc is a container

#

no vm

halcyon moss
#

ive not played with VMs in a loooong time

fair gull
#

lxc is more like docker

silk blade
#

lxc is cool for many cases where you otherwise would use a vm because docker and co are not usefull

#

yeah but more like a vm in how you use it

fair gull
#

isnt that the same as docker then

silk blade
#

no

#

if so docker is a layer ontop of lxc

halcyon moss
#

i guess.. technically i could use a docker container as a vm.. just never recreate it :p

silk blade
#

well yes but then you can use lxc 😄

fair gull
#

really need to get around using that sd card slot in my server

#

and just running virt systems

silk blade
#

ahh yeah and have the system in a read only state? 😄

fair gull
#

not like it matters

#

the virt systems can use the entire front sas plane tho

#

so i dont waste space with some host os there

silk blade
#

😄

#

use that feature on a small hpc system, where all machines boot of the same read only nfs share, works like charm

halcyon moss
#

i need to run the old controller.. i have a square ap

silk blade
#

uhh 😦

halcyon moss

man, even getting this stufdf working in a VM is tough 😮

Oh that sounds painful then

Meanwhile here I am jsut installing the unifi package on my rpi not even bothering with containers because I'm old school

That is my sub feed.

halcyon moss

@crimson wigeon i bet you're installing the newest version 🙂 that one does not support my AP 😦

maybe my solution is spending some moneys

Nah

frozen anchor
#

only thing i see wrong with ultrawide gaming monitors is that a lot of games dont work well with them

vagrant marsh
#

this screen seems to support picture by picture mode. so the screen splits up into 2. if a game doesnt work well, i can just do that.

reef tundra
#

This can be resolved with babuskas rolling pin, that you somehow now have

vagrant marsh
#

what?

reef tundra
#

Spread the bits

#

XD

vagrant marsh
#

resolution scaling?

reef tundra
#

If bob ross could spread the paint the bits can be spread with a rolling pin.

#

Small text: Results will be varied and often leads to disappointment and broken screens

#

I would use xrandr to virually make multiple displays from that one real display

ashen spindle
#

or you just set it to 16:9 via the games resolution and you use that

vagrant marsh
#

this is what i got now. imagine just 1 big screen in the middle 😛

reef tundra
#

Or you can have 3 normal monitors and glue them together to remove warranty

#

Currently in the redecorating and might be able to get a triple monitor setup. Ay yea im moving up in the world not 2 but 3 displays to make me unproductive.

#

Now that might be epic

vagrant marsh
#

still doesnt beat my dad tho

reef tundra
#

Aww you let him beat you in chess?

vagrant marsh
#

he uses 1 screen on his pc to watch snooker minimized through an app in a corner of his screen while watching a boat streaming his journey, got a laptop besides it to watch soccer, and plays a tetris like game on his ipad, while texting with family on his mobile

#

thats 1 screen more than you, mister 😛

#

he is retired so he can be unproductive

frozen anchor

i also bought a monitor and its supposed to be in stock again this week but im not getting my hopes up for that

To better the monitor setup use VR. Cant defeat a mad man with a disregard of the pc and ability to spawn more displays. RGB will guide the roads of the VR kingdom, if it works but anyways, dab and fedoras are still not cool. Still missing the toxic lobbies of halo. They were meme gold mines.

Yolo yeet and like a boss.
-executive (the kids love this)

chrome estuary

also in the case of a game not working, Take the Linus approach and just set your monitor into a 16:9 resolution.

Tuners are last age. We use the internet now , connect cable and cries

Some tv do that

#

Not all

#

But the difference is vaguely defined especially in normal conversation

#

Yea got a new monitor. Pulls out imax

#

Its doras bag so it fits just about

#

But there is this weird fox trying to steal it. It is oblivious and usually realise that he has no use for the bag and just disperses the contents. Does it once tho.

#

Discord may not allow it. User botting, I believe why.

frozen anchor
#

it is against discord tos but they dont enforce it unless you do something malicious

reef tundra
#

However if acting normally and not try to dos every server connected enforcement is really scarce. As the dos is more of a problem for discord

#

Why waste resources on people that do not a lot when there are way bigger fish to ban out there

frozen anchor
#

you can do the same with a betterdiscord plugin

#

lol with ripcord you can see all the super secret discord channels you dont have access to

pale sigil
#

You can on better discord

reef tundra
#

Best way to get a useless anti-cheat id to overload it by banning every one and no leniency cus why do that. Just to realise that anti-cheat cant analyse fast enough and the waiting time is that it crashed the server instead.

its possible, I hear the word "Odin" a lot
