When it's running in foreground, I get a steady 141 FPS, capped by RTSS
When it's in background, same, 141 FPS
When Discord is in foreground, on one of my 144 Hz displays, steady 141 FPS
When Discord is in foreground on my 60 Hz display, FPS drops to an instable ~110 FPS

There's definitely still stuff you can do with it. I had a 2012 too (GPU failed though I think I can fix it with soldering) and unfortunately while I was really excited at the time for eGPUs to come out, it wasn't until TB2 and TB3 that the idea became more mainstream. But those ports are strong.

I was looking at some videos to improve Blue Yeti mic quality and get less static / backround noice and found this comment, I tried it and itโs like a night and day difference. I hope I can maybe help some people with this:
โI ran across a really simple fix for a lot of background noise a few months ago that fixed an issue I didn't even know I had with my Yeti. When recording stuff on it, during editing, there was always some sort of low fuzz in my recording. For two years I took that to be my CPU fan and would just go in and do noise reduction with Audition, and call it a day. But I ran across a Youtube video that blew my mind.
(THE IMPORTANT PART) Turns out, Windows, when installing the Yeti software, in the audio property settings for the Yeti, sets the Microphone to 100. Makes sense, I suppose, but turns out that's like WAY too high. If you were to turn that down to about 7 or 8, and just cranked up the Gain on the back of the Yeti a bit to compensate, you get the EXACT same quality audio, BUT you lose the entirety of that background noise all together. I used to leave a few moments of quiet at the beginning of all of my recordings to come back and use as a footprint for noise reduction, but now I don't have to do that in the slightest! Ever since I discovered this, I try to scream it at the top of my lungs for all Yeti owners. It's such a simple fix that saves sooooooo much time! I hope someone reads this and it helps them out!!โ

as someone who used to do a bit in audio stuff, the goal is to never use or hit 100% levels on anything. we would do the occasional 95%, but even then it was rare when it came to setting used and not looking at output values. this would apply for any microphone setup. i would think this is sound advice.

You will only be missing out on : adjustable volume and game detection AFAIK.
Also unlike Discord (comma) you control the audio quality and all other features. Also (comma) it's FOSS and it's privacy friendly. Win-win.
Also be sure hardware acceleration is turned off in your browser.
Not to mention be sure it's fullscreen and not windowless.
