timber oxide
#

Error at boot or?

fair gull
#

na old ntuser.dat

#

but i just used regexport thingy from nirsoft

#

worked fine

latent mural
#

is there any downside to using ps/2 instead of usb for a keyboard apart from like, maybe less rgb and macro support or whatever

#

because id prefer to use ps/2, not because it uses interrupts or whatever, but because when i have a usb keyboard plugged in my mouse feels weird and laggy

fair gull
#

that means theres smth wrong bruh

#

better look into whats causing it

#

than trying to work around it

latent mural
#

like its not that bad, my mouse cursor just feels way more direct and "unfiltered" if i don't have usb keyboard plugged in

fair gull
#

ya find the problem

#

like i use trash systems every day

#

like intel centrino trash

#

barely running vista

#

and the mouse and keyboard over usb run smooth af

latent mural
#

it feels kinda the same as when i have a frame limiter on instead of uncapped fps

fair gull
#

i had smth like that back then aswell caused by bad usb drivers

latent mural
#

it's nothing huge but once i got used to a ps/2 keyboard, switching to it was noticable

fair gull
#

my system interupt kept eating cpu time

#

by just loading it to 100%

latent mural
#

yeah i put a lot of weird settings on my pc and bios a while ago because of weird ocn guides

fair gull
#

basically what ure trying to do is cooking with a microwave while your kitchen is burning

#

better to first get rid of le fire

latent mural
#

i've also seen some people say if you have multiple 1000hz usb devices plugged in then the polling rate becomes inconsistent

fair gull
#

never heard of that personally

latent mural
#

or poll "timing" idk

fair gull
#

i mean like i said have tons of shitty hardware infront of me each day they all can do usb fine

latent mural
#

The thing is, everything seemed fine when i had only ever used usb keyboards. right now i'd say it kind of feels like the difference between 75hz and 60hz

#

i wouldnt be surprised if it was just some random thing i disabled a year ago or something

fair gull
#

which is why i said investigate

#

will be the way better option

#

like ps2 has pmuch no downsides except you will prob not find any macro or rgb with it and most of the payable keyboards with ps2 are rubber dome

thick elk
#

The largest downside of PS/2 for me is when for whatever reason the connector comes lose you have to reboot. Granted it doesn't happen often but when it does it's rather annoying. That being said my last PS/2 keyboard the steelseries g6v2 also could be used on usb without nkey rollover and repluging into usb did work.

#

Overall a modern well made usb keyboard really doesn't have any downsides either over PS/2 so there is not much reason to use it for the theory of hardware interupts

solar hinge
#

i told you how to block the windows @reef patrol it's your own fault :p

reef patrol
#

The what now?

wheat plume
#

somehow my list box code fucked up

#
let select = document.getElementById("listboxContinent").value;

for(let i = 0; i < continentList.length; i++) {

    let opt = continentList[i];
    let el = document.createElement("option");
    el.textContent = opt;
    el.value = opt;
    select.appendChild(el);

}
thick elk
#

Why document.getElementById("listboxContinent").value;
and not just document.getElementById("listboxContinent")?

fair gull
#

because one retrieves an element and one the value

thick elk
#

Anyway in this context you probably want to grab the element and not the value

#

how I would have probably written it:

contentList.forEach( (opt) => {
  let el = document.createElement('option')
  el.textContent = opt
  el.value = opt
  select.appendChild(el)
})```
fair gull
#

oh ya

#

didnt see how select it used

#

but ya then grab the element

wheat plume
#
# Fix jetbrains products
export _JAVA_AWT_WM_NONREPARENTING=1

@dapper ridge what that do?

dapper ridge
#

on something like i3 or bspwm or any non reparenting window manager (ie any window manager that does not have a wrapper box) it makes java render it correctly and prevents parent issues where java cant display because it is expecting to be reparented

#

for example, in my use case, jetbains products

crimson wigeon
#

Oh what is incorrect in this case

wheat plume
#

pretends I understand the concept of parented windows

crimson wigeon
#

I remember a while back I tried Ghidra for the memes and it didn't work at all in sway

#

By work at all I mean the interface didn't render at all

dapper ridge
#

that is because of reparenting

crimson wigeon
#

Which to me screams awful software

dapper ridge
#

no

#

its just java

#

being java

crimson wigeon
#

Awful language, then

dapper ridge
#

hence this env

#

oh trust me

#

fuck java

#

but lots of stuff is built in it

#

and it is quite powerful

crimson wigeon
#

Also what kind of nonsense does it do that it requires that

ashen spindle
#

im just here to say, yes, fuck java

dapper ridge
#

its just java's graphic lib for widnows

#

its expecting to be reparented

#

and the wm does not provide it the info it needs to know it is not

crimson wigeon
#

What is so hard about rendering into a rectangle

dapper ridge
#

oh dont

#

even get me started

#

on fucking rendering shit on linux

#

I've been working on learning how to build a WM

#

simply put, if your wm is something like openbox, every window you open gets a parent windows associated (in however the tree system for your wm handles it) and this window actually dictates size and shit based on its rendering requirements and rendering rules

#

so the child, java's app in this case, does not get this info

#

and java knows to rely on its parent

crimson wigeon
#

But again, why does literally everything else handle this fine

dapper ridge
#

because its java

#

literally the reason

#

I've had minor issues with electron, but those bugs usually get ironed out in a version or two

#

I mean they could fix it

#

in the latest java

#

but most java projects dont run altest

#

and never will

crimson wigeon
#

I guess the other thing is apps relying on arcane X nonsense which is why we need Wayland

dapper ridge
#

I agree, but also disagree

#

I think wayland is nice

#

but I also have issues with its lack of stability, and its lack of adoption

wheat plume
#

and lack of nvidia anything

dapper ridge
#

oh yeah that is a decent nail in the coffin

crimson wigeon
#

Yeah its been declared "ready" for so many years but only like this past year do I actually see some effort in making things work good

dapper ridge
#

be happy, the corporate linux, ubuntu, has sway built into their latest shit

#

mind you, I cant use it because the utilities I rely on usually crash or fail to launch on wayland

crimson wigeon
#

The real question is when will Ubuntu default to Wayland

wheat plume
#

when it doesnt shit a brick when using nvidia drivers I imagine

young flicker
#

@prisma crag Ah, so you're going for a 50/50 split between the monitor and system? I feel you on the motherboards, I remember when anything $300+ was absolute top of the line enthusiast level. I'm also not liking how expensive the excellent monitors are these days.

#

What are halo lines, like flagship products?

#

Ah, I guess my terminology is outdated. That's what I think of when I think of flagships.

#

I just wish there was a decent in-between right now.

#

I know it's just because of the new technology developed for them, but I just want a reasonably sized 4K monitor with HDR, preferably with G-Sync.

#

And those are all pretty expensive.

#

But yeah, over $100/inch is baller status.

#

On the flipside though, even people building computers for $5,000 coughmeforoncecough don't want do spend an almost equal amount on a monitor. In my opinion, without the new technology that is being implemented for the first time a completely premium, non-professional developer monitor should be around $1,500 without getting into ridiculous sizes..

@young flicker yeah mice right now kinda suck balls

young flicker

It seems like the thing right now is to make them "light" by just removing as much material as possible, which just feels cheap.

latent mural

logitech is cheaping on on the switches
steelseries is putting screens on them
razer is pricing stuff very roughly

you can get a <insert whatever non-mainstream brand here> but then u get shit macro support

young flicker

I had one of their first flagship headsets and it literally fell apart.

latent mural
#

there's no QMK equivalent for mice

young flicker
#

And I just don't like the ergo of their mice.

latent mural
#

and AHK always has a 15-16ms delay to whatever you do

tough stag

Logitech g700 ... since like 10 years or so

young flicker

Well I learned of QMK today. Sounds awesome.

latent mural
#

no right answers

young flicker
#

I went out of my way and paid more than any sane person would to buy a "new" G5 v2.

tough stag
#

QMK is good.

latent mural
#

at first i got a basilisk v2, but wired, software was janky

tough stag
#

but QMK does not have analog keys

latent mural
#

got a g604 but i'm scared about the rubber

#

and i swear i already got a few double clicks due to the cheap switches

#

1 month in

young flicker
#

I bought my mom a PC for VR and I got her a G502 Hero, and it's actually kind of okay, but the design feels tryhard and the DPI buttons are too easy to hit accidentally.

#

And the right click is going out less than a year later.

#

I'd buy a Wooting mouse. As long as it's not turquoise lol.

latent mural
#

i wouldn't, i make heavy usage of macros on my mouse specifically

young flicker
#

Are they diametrically opposed to macros or something?

latent mural
#

no

#

but they're not available yet

young flicker
#

Ah.

latent mural
#

for a keyboard it's fine

#

all macros i have are 2 buttons to open up calculator and masterpassword

#

i'll need more with the wooting lekker but thats cause it has extra features i want to use

#

otherwise i wouldn't need it

young flicker
#

15 years ago I would've thought macros would be OS level at this point.

latent mural
#

but for mice i really like to setup macros for most games i play

#

to automate things

#

for example in MHW i have a macro that opens up the first item wheel, then when i release the button it auto-select that item

tough stag
#

Wait what?

latent mural
#

and 3 more for the other 3 item wheels

tough stag
#

Lekker has extra software features?

latent mural
#

analog keys

#

ever heard of em : ^)

#

not movement

#

although

#

ghub specifically supports it

#

every profile can have 1 user-made LUA script

#

and in it you can actually make mouse movement work, even in fps games

#

unlike razer synapse

#

but no keypress macros are enough for me, though i like versatility in that regard.
ghub's sequence macros do something when pressing the key, do something (looped) while holding and something else on release

#

and that's great

#

though knowing the switches could fuck me over tomorrow isn't pleasant

#

even if i were to refund it there's no mouse i'd even consider buying, literally nothing fits my needs of good macro support and not immensely garbage

young flicker
#

Seems like there's a huge opening for any competent company to compete.

latent mural
#

for what's worth

#

i'd buy a naga with optical switches

#

or something akin to it with similar software support

tough stag
#

magnetic vs optical switches

#

hmmm

latent mural
#

for mouse?

#

optical easy

tough stag
#

lekker vs normal wooting

#

isnt magnetic inferior?

latent mural
#

magnetic is better for keyboards, hands down

#

but for mice optical is just fine

tough stag
#

why would magnetic be better?

latent mural
#

you have no use for analog on a mouse

tough stag
#

no .. keyboard

young flicker
#

Imagine a mouse with force feedback...

latent mural
#

i only want optical switches cause they can't fucking die at any moment

#

.<

tough stag
#

demagnetization

latent mural
#

tomorrow i could wake up and half my clicks could become double clicks on the g604

#

you never know

young flicker
#

I think analog could actually be extremely useful both for productivity and gaming if there was a high degree of haptic/force feedback.

latent mural
#

but yeah right now i wish i could refund my g604 even though i really like it (and tbh i could) and have something else that's actually worth buying

#

if my g604 has issues in the next month (double clicking...) i'm fucking buying a g203 and that's it

#

x)

#

if you can't tell i'm tilted

#

(and it's a subtle call for help lol)

#

yeah but it's stupid cheap, light, good sensor

#

if i cant find a decent mouse may as well save money hoho

#

same, i got 6

#

x)

#

would hate to give em away

#

but if the switches die on me then whatever

#

technically i haven't tried the rival 500 yet

#

but maybe i won't at all

#

no and the idea sounds weird x)

#

i do a balanced mix of gaming and coding

#

sounds dope for a desk job

#

not as dope when flicking newbs

#

well the g604 is a mmo mouse but i'm not rly a mmo gamer :P

#

i just like big mice with good macros and boi that's a lot of macros

#

the tyon looks like it's...

#

designed to look cool

#

rather than to be good

#

i'd rather go for the rival 500 over it

#

u got a tyon/rival 500?

#

if you're in the EU i guess it wouldn't be super expensive either way

#

or maybe it is and screw me lul

#

but nah it looks kinda uncomfortable tbh

#

now that i think about it

#

i also remember one fella reviewing the rival 500 bashing the leadr

#

for being super uncomfortable in comparison

young flicker
#

Funny.

latent mural
#

though honestly i could look into covering delivery expense if it's not too bad, maybe it's worth trying

#

i could keep doing the refund dance with amazon and try everything but i'd not try my luck lol

#

in between the basilisk and streak pro i already refunded a fair bit of stuff recently

#

yeah but that'd kinda be abusing the system

young flicker
#

Also, having worked for Amazon in the U.S. you will get your money back.

latent mural
#

nothing would stop me from getting a product, keeping it 2 weeks, refund, buy it again, repeat

young flicker
#

As long as you're sending everything back and not doing tens of items a month you probably wouldn't even be flagged.

#

Plus if you're that worried just make multiple accounts lol.

latent mural
#

i just assume there's laws to prevent that that i never bothered to look into

#

plus come on it feels scummy af to do x)

#

i should, since all mice in stores are mega garbage and there's no way to try out a mouse otherwise

#

but ehhh

young flicker
#

I mean you could honestly just ask support if it'd be cool and while it's not the law they'd probably give you a straight, honest answer. I could see them not caring at all - you'll just have to pay for shipping.

latent mural
#

fun fact

#

this

#

is the most comfortable mouse i ever tried, shape-wise

#

the buttons are ultra garbage

#

but the shape was 10/10

young flicker
#

Yep, I worked in the returns building and saw not only how they operated, but what they sold as "new."

#

Haven't bought a single thing from them since.

#

No Prime Video, nothing.

latent mural
#

care to elaborate? :O

#

i've never gotten things that looked used

young flicker
#

It's probably much more strict in the EU.

latent mural
#

afaik used things go in the amazon warehouse deals

#

locke what did u settle on

young flicker
#

Here, just as an example, we'd get Insta Pots that had been opened and they'd be marked to be sold as new. Don't get me wrong they weren't ultra dirty or blatantly used or anything, but they WERE at least bought, shipped, opened, returned, and then sold as new.

latent mural
#

lmao the spoilerino

#

feral jolt
#

ashen spindle

feral jolt
#

and its half the price of a 3200 14-14-14-34 kit

ashen spindle
#

feral jolt
#

latency difference would be something like 1ms or 10% faster

#

In JS, can you only return a value from a function if you already passed on into it when called?
