ie, on your local machine you are user1, but your username on the server is user2, you must specify the username
dumb question, but you did select SSH as connection type in putty?
yes
can you send a screen what putty says when you try to connect?
lol
ok ya
I already try to get used to not using a scrollwheel and sidebuttons
Magic mouse users have not had a scroll wheel for many many years
lol
Xdd
Apple also has that inverted scrolling direction per default
shudder
I can't imagine not having a scroll wheel/middle mouse button. I actually wish the scroll wheel side buttons had wider support.
I would, or at least I would try, if they were actually supported for anything except for side scrolling on websites - which is never necessary now due to everything being designed-for-mobile garbo (in my opinion). I haven't tried in years but I couldn't even get games to recognize them back in the day.
?
scroll wheel sidebuttons are kinda shit to build
Ryzen 1200 AF is released lol
50 euros
I don't remember any app SUPOORTING side scroll. So I've never used it.
@old marlin How does it rank vs the Athlon 3000G
If it's not at least moderately faster on the CPU side, there would be no point
Well, yeah
Twice the cores is a good start
how much is the athlon?
50โฌ
But considering you need at least any kind of GPU with the 1200, it makes for a more expensive build anyway
I liked the functionality of side scroll, but never found a mouse it was reliably functional on. Always too sensitive, registering side clicks as middle clicks & vise-versa. Makes the scroll wheel feel loose.
I liked the feature on my g500 and didn't have any accidental clicks, did miss it for a while when I switched mice

I really thought when microsoft bought minecraft, them using it as a demo for their XR glasses was the last big thing I'd hear about it, definitely didn't expect it to see on channels like Digital foundry or GamersNexus this year lmao
It's sad those Minecraft sandbox (literal ones) never really caught on.

Uses Micro-B cable, not super battery life, if you charge them while wearing them, it creates audio noise. ๐
The Azeron gaming keypad might be the craziest game controller around. Regardless if you play Fortnite, Valorant, Modern Warfare or anything else, it has more macro keys placed in 3D space than you could possibly need. This really feels like the future of gaming....but there...

Looks interesting enough but probably like those dedicated gaming keepads at some point you will just get bored and stop bother to configure a profile.

It does make me interested in trying my old belkin n52te again regardless

This - This is not what you want to see when a former colleague says "So this is what I come back to after vacation"
uhhh am I blind?
First clue. Look at the AIO.
uhhhh second clue?
There's only one fan on a two fan AIO radiator (it's going to boil - especially since that's a 9900K)
Second - The fan is the wrong way around.
ohhhh
This - This was a shop built PC from a colleague who obviously should go back to IT basics school ๐
Verdict:
You don't know how AIOs work.
You don't know how fan orientation works.
You're boiling both the 9900K and the 2080TI in this case - Should have insisted on a larger case.
I feel so bad for the customer. It's getting hot in Denmark.

I wish Vivaldi worked with ICE ;-;
@wheat plume ICE as in German "high-speed" train?

oh wait it actually has that now? hey nice

I love the ! search feature
I meant the reverse-image search function, think only google ahs that?
why cant I select the vivaldi option? ;-;
It only appears to check for /usr/bin/vivaldi-stable so perhaps make that a symlink to your actual vivaldi binary or something

did u try turning it off an on again

I am thinking about testing Manjaro for gaming
its not very well known
infact, idk how to install it on any other ubuntu based distro as its not in the repos
other than PeppermintOS of course cause they made it
what distro u usin'
Manjaro
i suppose its Arch based
What make is ur gpu
last i checked they had more than 3 gpus
doesnt matter in linux
doesnt matter in linux
ya tell that to smth trying to use a graphics lib
not really...majaro installs the drivers for you
makes sense, nvidia font give a crap
its just the gpu being shite
so it is only a question of opensource (amd) vs proprietary (nvidia) drivers
yes
so how is the gpu model irrelevant
I wanted to know if she got gaming under nvidia working
PopOS and Manjaro are the only distros I know that installed drivers for Nvidia atomatically on install
because like I said her 840m
I can play all the games I own no bother
uses the same driver as my 1080
860
xd
as long as you have a game
you can theoretically play every steam game
i can think of one that only works by modding the game no matter what
but it didnt launch single player until I replaced the exe file with a cracked one
strange that mp worked no issues
the funny part is
that some games run better on linux using an emulator
than on windows itself
Doom 2017 xd
give me one example
on a gtx1070 it runs at like 160fps in windowed maxed settings
windows runs it at the same fullscreen
so id say the same
why windowed on linux?
I thought running a game windowed was bad
both can use vulkan
makes it lose frames
yes
ahh
does it matter if the card is OC? cause its the same card they are comparing each version of the game on
if i compare an OC card to non OC the oc card will perf better
cause it can crunch more numbers
windowed has more input delay afaik
windowed also tends to lose frames every now and then
Doesn't gpuboost make all cards (assuming same cooling) have the same performance basically tho
does gpu boost work on linux?
safe to say just comparing non oc cards is the safest way
but anyway games using opengl/vulkan will prob run the same perf wise on linux/windows
there is a thing called gamemode but idk how to use it
Isn't that the tool that feral made or whatever
That basically just changes the cpu governor
The Readme tells you what it does exactly
You're right apparently. There's gpu boost stuff also
overclocking wow
it seems all the options must be configured in a conf file
there is no gui?
LEL the gamemode gnome extension comes preinstalled on Manjaro
yup

@wheat plume That's very sleek, I like it a lot. And that's coming from someone who hates the flat design trend.
@young flicker :DD
I'm curious to know how it's working for you, especially for gaming. I'm ditching Windows 10 as soon as it's reasonably viable to.
I mean obviously it's Linux.
So I don't expect anywhere near the same level of support or performance. I just want it to be usable.
@young flicker if you want to only play games with native linux support, gaming is fantastic on Linux
If you want to use Wine/ Lutris/ Proton to play windows games, then you need to b willing to tinker with behind the scenes stuff to fix issues or sometimes accept you will run into a game that simply wont work
that is all I got to say on the matter tbh
I just don't get the appeal at all, the time it takes to figure out how to make it run and all that is the same if not more it would take you to just block everything related to win10 telemetry via ip blocking and whatnot and you have much better game support
For some people that level of control is the appeal.
If you remove too much telemetry you cant get updates anymore
I know from personal experience :/
Plus even if you can do that now it telegraphs the direction Microsoft is going and I really, really don't like it.
But some games are not going to work on Linux
you literally just make it send the data into nothing, that doesnt block downloads for updates
#riotGames
But some games are not going to work on Linux
@hoary dock yeah, I said that
But for reasons that make me want to uninstall the game even under windows
Valorant has an anti cheat that operates even if you don't play the game
@wheat plume So it's about the same as other distros then?
Valorant is basically malware
And on Kernel level or some high level if I remember it right
But the game is fun
@young flicker there are definetly better distros for performance, but there are a lot of variables
I heard Manjaro architect is great for performance
Like Windows 10 is American spyware.
@young flicker spyware, nagware, bloatware, stuffs games you dont want into your start menu
I heard Manjaro architect is great for performance
@hoary dock if you installing the arcitect version you may as well do a full arch install
@wheat plume Games like Minesweeper which displays ads unless you pay for a subscription that doesn't work without an always-on connection...
basically in windows you uninstall stuff after you first boot up, in linux you install stuff or you have nothing, same thing just from the other side
@wheat plume Games like Minesweeper which displays ads unless you pay for a subscription that doesn't work without an always-on connection...
@young flicker LEL and getting candy crush too
@ashen spindle I just Domain join my PC and the stuff gets removed on its own
basically in windows you uninstall stuff after you first boot up, in linux you install stuff or you have nothing, same thing just from the other side
@ashen spindle wat?
was more comparing the simple "install os and start pc" but sure, that works too
@wheat plume Also, unrelated to the spyware/adware/etc. but wholly related to their hand-holding lowest common denominator philosophy, a task manager which can't actually force stop a program.
Windows install is getting more and more retarded
Linux lets you install only what you want so you get the most performance out of it
Set security questions
No I really don't want a ms account
Leave me alone I don't want to give you all my data
But you will take it anyway
I need to use myt account, its the only way I can activate windows :/ -.-
It's the same reason you need an account to use the GeForce Experience these days - data collection.
@wheat plume just buy a 7โฌ win7prof key
I remember when the ethos of internet culture was the exact OPPOSITE of these things.
then just dont activate it and reset timer every so often lel
/rearm
If I do use Windows at all I'll just obtain either the LTSB or the LTSC.
I'd legitimately buy them if I could but I can't, soooo.
idc much if I logged into windows, I only have college shit on there
I cant use it for gaming, my computer specs are shit
It's the principle for me. I've got nothing to hide, and what I would want to hide I could hide easily, but I hate the precedent being set.
Just replace Ur gpu
also last time I had windows on this computer, the screen tearing was horrendous
no matter what game
or video
way too much tearing
I tried all the fixes I could find online and it didnt do shit
ofc
I had the nvidia control panel too
tried to enable vysnc system wide
but no work
I remember all the good videos
Get more fps in every game!!! 100% works
And all they did was just
Right click "execute with Nvidia high performance processor"
:')
XD
That was when amd CPUs where literal dogshit
I had a fx6300 six core
And when I started screen sharing in Skype
Cpu 100% and the sound was lagging

omfh
Conroe really did a number on AMD.
An Intel i3-2100 would have done better
fx was so impressive, now intel wants to copy it with comet late
Hehehehe.
:')
NETBURST all over again boys.
300watt+ stock boost hell yeah
Imagine getting kicked out of one of the most profitable areas in CPUs
Imagine cloudflare doing this by buying amd servers
But AMDs graphic cards are still space heaters
next big super computer contracts are also taken by amd
I had one for three days
And sent it back
Switched back to my gtx970
And bought a 1080
well, starting next gen that should be better
If they fix their driver issues and the leaks are semi-accurate Big Navi should be competetive.
Not king, but probably the best price-to-performance ratio.
Navi??? HEY LISTEN!
But the drivers have been rough since ATi so I'm not holding my breath.
big navi should be king till ampere, but yeah, drivers are killing them
It looks like Ampere and Big Navi will launch around the same time.
That reminds me of a pun
How much later, and how soon do you expect Big Navi?
big navi in summer, q4 for ampere

: )
If Big Navi is going to be out by August they need to make some announcements soon. The latest rumor I heard for Ampere was an August announcement and a September launch but we know how unreliable those types of rumors are. I think it would have been out sooner if not for Corona.
Well good thing I am not from Germany, @ashen spindle, but from Bavaria
navi had a high chance to be announced at E3 or computex, now I assume they announce on 7/7 bc marketing 7nm
and ampere at gamescom, or around that time since that is now cancelled too
ah yes, that mystic place is close but definitely not german :^)
I had to google what semmel is
because I only heard it as "Semmel-brรถtchen" so I assumed it was some special variant
No. Some weirdos are calling Semmeln "Brรถtchen"
Anybody have any experience with EVGA's B-Stock? Their products have always been reliable but I've never bought a refurb from them.
Does it say why itโs b stock or is it luck of draw?
It gives a few reasons why an item might be B-Stock but for the individual purchase it's luck of the draw. It does say that they're tested for performance and reliability but of course it would say something like that. They come with a 1 year warranty and are about 1/4 the price so that's what has me tempted.
What product are you looking at exactly?
A 2080 Ti, so not a small discount lol.
does sound worth yeah
if it does have issues you can still return in like a normal one
Do they still charge the 15% restocking fee for defects?
no clue
Also I'm just going to slap a waterblock on it which will require a new I/O shield anyway so I'm not worried about scratches or anything like that.
I'll have to ask them.
Another big thing that makes it seem worth it is that when the new generation comes out I'll most likely just be selling it anyway, and at that point it's the same as an used card so the return should theoretically be higher percentage wise. Not that I'm expecting much of a return.
Ope, it doesn't come with the HDMI-to-DVI cable, totally not worth it.
Yeah, that was another thing I had considered in B-Stock's favor since I'm pretty sure they don't qualify for it anyway.
I just pulled the trigger on that. Got an XC Ultra for $874 pre-tax, and $955 out the door with the 2 slot bracket. Pretty good deal.
Around $400 off all things taken into account.
Really? Audio was actually the next thing on my list, and my information is so out of date in that regard that sound cards were still the way to go. I've heard of Schiit but like I said, I'm lost as far as DAC and amps go.
It seems like they aren't really made for surround.
onboard audio likely as good as an external card these days. If the SNR >= 110dB, it's probably decent enough you'll never be able to perceive the difference outside of an expensive studio environment.
If you wants surround, probably best to HDMI out to receiver or pre/pro
though external amps/etc. do tend to have knobs to turn, like volume, or mic returns for self-monitoring which have practical value beyond audio quality
Any suggestions? Something I've noticed as well is that in the price range I've been looking at microphones don't seem to be a consideration at all. Is that for a reason?
I'd have to dig into it to say. It doesn't take much to build a DAC+amp for headphones, where driving even very high impedance loads would only require a watt or two, so there thousands of constantly changing options
Microphone you might not need, headsets and built-in webcam ones may work depending on your purpose.
I had an issue with my onboard audio and my headphones. At certain points in some songs it just goes "laggy" and distorted.
bought an DAC and the issue was gone
any idea why it doesnt like the DNS address?
because its ipv6?

this is a DNS, its cant scan files

even by known malware

It blocks malware websites if it is already on your pc it doesn't do anything
It blocks malware websites if it is already on your pc it doesn't do anything

w10 can mount iso files
So did W8
uses a pair of bluetooth headphones
"I dont have line noise"
aptx?
oh, you talking phones
sorry, i kinda dont have much interest placed in phone stuff
idk, havent been using windows 10 so far. and digging through the settings is kinda awkward.
Android 11 will grey out codecs in the developer settings that wotn work on your headphones
it was a bit difficult to set up in a way that teamspeak would not make every other application muted while i used the bluetooth headphones
not sure if the fault there was with teamspeak or with windows tbh XD
no it was not simple. it was not the tick for muting other stuff while communication stuff is detected :P
this "exclusive mode" stuff
the issue was that my headphones were detected as TWO devices
no, not as "left" and "right"
one was "handsfree communication device"
and the other was just "headphones [device serial number?]"
and for some reason, everything works fine, except teamspeak. because teamspeak somehow only sees this one, and is not doing well with that.
so i have one of these two disabled now, but it also didnt just work, i had to fiddle around with turning it on and off again
also seriously dont know why one of these two made every other sound muted tbh.
tbf, windows isnt really known for smoothness atm
i mean, there is a reason why i didnt bother with win10 until like last month
i like playing games
am not necessarily that much into the inner workings of everything
i just hate how much it tends to take to learn a new OS, even if it is windows -> windows

When I drive and want to listen to music I need to plug my phone in with the cable and just let my phone lay in the cup holder
there is a feature that makes my life better in this ROM , I can hold down the volume buttons to skip songs if I want to
if i want to listen to music from my phone, i put my phone in the area under my handbrake and play from the phone speaker
wait..you straight up dont have an audio input?
"what is an audio input?"

oh wow
my car accepts FM via the antenna that is kind of ... well ... the rubber is chipping off the antenna, and the reception is slowly getting worse, i swear.
I dont have a local music collection stored on my phone
and since i installed this rom I have that ability to skip songs with the volume buttons
in my previous car, i had a beautiful radio retrofitted, DIN2. and it even supported changing stuff via the radio buttons what was going on my phone.
this car? cant even retrofit, due to how the head unit is integrated in the entire car's board system...
but hey, it has a theoretical support for a multi CD drive
doesnt even do repeat of a single song though.
how do i remove a head unit that is technically not there?
yeah, not gonna that.
and dont have the money to let a garage to it for me
i mean, tbh, i did go to a place to get an estimate for work needed for getting an overhauled soundsystem. but let's say, it didnt stay 3 figures due to stupid reasons.
i kinda hate this car, and only took it because i needed something that drives.
and that's near 2 years now. and i think it might be falling apart more and more.
meh
i also didnt like my previous car, but i still kinda miss it
cause it also actually was my first car
(and had actually more space despite less power)
in return i now have a convertible.
and i learned i hate driving a convertible. especially with open roof.
and i only like glass roofs if i can close it off with something that blocks off light if necessary.
entirely.
i hate them.
constant light flickering of sun and shadow switching while driving is so terrible
also the heat of the sun shining directly on your body, urgh.
the more summer progresses, the more i'm inclined to close the roof and just switch on the AC
Will removing all these other than gnome-software break anything?

it wasnt useable for like a year
but then a win10 upgrade fixed all that
the only issue i have now is it automatically switches window focus
So basically a soft reinstall
Those big jumps are usually when I reformat
ive dragged since since winxp lol
With things like ninite it's actually pretty fast to get everything setup again
Oof
but rn its just
my pc keeps freezing up
and its not any OC
switches windows no matter if im typing or fapping
How many mbs did that os go through
and just general a bit laggy
this mb has seen
4 mbs
no 5
2 intel pentium 4 ones
an amd fx-4100
i7-4790k
and my current i7-9700k
I am genuinely impressed at how you managed to switch from amd to Intel that easily without chipset driver issues and whatnot
who said there were no chipset driver issues
I assume ddu is your best friend when upgrading gpus lol
lol
Lmao
u dont wanna know how much time i spend when switching systems
removing old drivers
fixing registry shit manually
well
He's a masochist.
im insanely lazy in terms of getting used to change
like
its setup in a way i feel comfortable
and i know that when i set this up from 0 i will have to readjust
and reconfigure so many things
im glad mozilla has profiles i can copy
so at least my browser will work the exact same
lol
and thunderbird
I reconfigure some things but if you reformat as often as I do you get faster at re setting up :p
gets cluttered over time
welp
I used to try and not install things and keep it cleaner
But honestly it's not worth the effort
ure talking to someone whos using a bag with one of those diagonal straps and the clip on that is semi broken
I just accept that it will become borked at some point and reformat
?
so i have to keep holding it otherwise the bag falls down
and i am using this bag/backpack since 6 years now
tmw u post in the wrong channel
I use my old schoolbag for some stuff
and the zipper on it is pretty broken
bottom almost ripped
etc
i just cant really get used to having a new bag
and readjusting using that new bag
so i keep using this one
also the reason i keep using my g100s
i just cant adjust to anything new
I mean I'd personally probably try to switch it up a little just so I won't get to set on it
jsut so things don't become irreplaceable
but forcing yourself probably won't help either
gnight
1.3 million files... 13.3kb/s.. probably should have zipped those files first! :S
@fair gull -- are both sides of the straps on your bag broken?
@latent mural I'm sure the BoomPro or something along those lines would be fine for gaming, but I'd like to be able to record a little. Not singing or anything super technical, just high quality.
@prisma crag I love MX-5's. Almost bought a 1990 with 57,000km on it just a couple weeks ago, took it for a drive. Body was mint, but was asking just a hair too much given the interior was not in good shape.
@young flicker quiet room?
ah man they are fun cars too
It'll be relatively quiet during everyday use, if I need to I can sound proof when the time comes.
I found an OK BOOMER moment, within a book about SDNs
@young flicker in that case, my suggestion would be to look at something like the AT2020USB. There's obviously a subculture for these things, because internet, but I am quite partial to condenser mics. That one is a pretty solid unit and pretty versatile too
telephone.. like.. dial-up.. dsl?
Good deal, I'll look into that!
I'll start with the difference between that and the +.
ah that's a bit rough. What island are you on?
@young flicker the + I think is the latest version with the headphone output
ah, greenland
I do, myself, live on a sparsely populated large island, Newfoundland
Is there a way to remapp Cpaslock to ESC permanently?
Would be super neat for using Linux / VIM
wait for key remapping
isnt that a feature quite easily done in linux itself?
yes
unless u only use vim cause u think its elite
then u prob dont invest time into linux keymaps
Vim is great because of the change command and the repeatability with the dot command. You can edit code very fast.
ever heard of gtfobins ?
i will just say that any good ide/texteditor has equal and better functionality than vim
also isnt vim one of the most exploitable binaries to break out
wat?
I'm using pycharm with vim bindings. It's great
configuring vim to be sorta smart is a pain i dont want to go through again
@halcyon moss go to gtfobins. vim literally is one if the most exploitable frequently installed binaries out there
uh
I just looked and it's literally all just because it has Lua and Python script support
Oh noes
not really
a ton is just vim being vim
but ya imma stay with any good ide/texteditor is by default better than vim cause u cant use it as a lockscreen
vi comes in busybox which is in almost every small linux or embedded device. Good to know vi / vim commands and objects and how to get around.
... if you have to deal with that stuff on a regular basis.
Anyway i just asked if capslock (which should die anyway) can be remapped to anything else. like escape or maybe even a function layer.
QMK style macros and function layers would be so dope
I hope this emoji can express how much i want this
Yes i am waiting for keyremapping.
In the OS however is not an option.
My input devices are connected to a USB switch that controlls multiple devices.
@fair gull do you have an ETA for keyremapping?
in beta soon โข
@ashen spindle any way to use beta?
The trello info is outdated
yes
Deepin Terminal is very nice
more like very blurry
you can chang the blur amount
including 0?
yeh
and you can turn off blur so its just transparent also
blur doesnt work on gnome desktop -.-
@wheat plume are u just trying all desktop environments?
@wheat plume
exactly
deepin a box
Just spent an hour going through ALL of my various bags and boxes of random screws to sort them out and throw away the rest.
I want to die.

oh that thonk is good

when you press quote instead of edit because its whjere edit used to be -.-
I even have Bugcat figures ๐
bought.
\seiofhsrg adorableeeee
@reef patrol where did u get those
I got them through a Taiwanese proxy. ๐
