cedar glen
#

I have no clue

#

you'll have to ask a Karen

#

I guess it's to illustrate clapping while talking ?

old marlin
#

tbh that is so distracting that I would probably forget what I wanted to say irl

#

with longer sentences

cedar glen
#

The Clap Emoji is an ideogram depicting two hands clapping which is often used online to depict the "ratchet clap," the practice of clapping one's hands between words to add emphasis in a condescending manner.

@cosmic mulch Since you seem to be looking at new keyboards, here's a good review of the hunstman : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jAPTPMtDtHg

Skip to 17:09 for a typing demonstration.
Possibly the most requested, and important, keyboard review of the year. I present to you the Razer Huntsman. With its optoelectric switches, it's taking Razer in a whole different direction. Genuinely, this is an important phase in t...

β–Ά Play video
#

tl;dr : good for typing if your hands hover while typing, not great if you're the kind that uses a wristrest as the actuation point is way high and you'll keep hitting the switches

#

also possibly bad for gaming for that same reason

#

errr, the version being reviewed is literally ISO TKL

#

there's more to the internet than just amazon

#

you live in germany

#

that's like the best place to find electronics in europe

#

with the biggest amount of stores

#

still valid

ashen spindle
#

are you sure you want UK and not US layout?

cedar glen
#

you can even find azerty kbs in germany

ashen spindle
#

interresting, first person I know that prefers the @ and "" switched

#

yeah I know, terrible spot imo haha

#

switchung to us from german layout was the best choice I made

cedar glen
#

well french layout has the " and ' as 3 and 4, but at least for @ it's alt gr + 9, which is easier to reach

#

i would've gone for UK layout but it actually seems to not be as suited as international US ANSI for any extra letters

fair gull
#

the @ and " places switched make virtually no diference

#

i use ctrl + alt instead of altgr anyway

cedar glen
#

@cosmic mulch yeah maybe you should have watched literally any video about DKS before buying

#

πŸ‘€

fair gull
#

i mean

#

there is daddy remapping around the corner

#

and then u can actually make the keyboard do whatever

#

and it can do altgr

ashen spindle
#

or do what I do, use wincompose or a similar tool for extras keys and such

#

so caps+o is ΓΆ for me

fair gull
#

literally prints @ in de layout

#

woops

#

idk why everyone thinks altgr is a modifer

#

its not

ashen spindle
#

fn+ media controls not working or what? also caps was just an exmaple, you can use any key for that, also it would still be possible to use that combo for volume

#

what I do is I use it for mobas, on the way down I see the targeting, on bottom out I use the skill, so I basically have instant casting but the option to see the area

fair gull
#

i mean technically the wooting can do the light press thing tho

#

just gotta take into account that it would be self coded and with shit tons of delay

bronze rose
#

I want that remap feature 😦 the alpha state is no a problem cause now some stuff are failing anyway xD

fair gull
#

even then expect added 100-200ms delay

#

and i think smth like this is more feasible on lekker anyway

#

since you can use the full travel distance

#

so there is actual light presses without 160g springs

#

if you actually check out the physical range of where analog is read

#

its a bit small for smth like you wanna do imo

ashen spindle
#

well there most likely will be one, just not very soon

thick elk
#

I have not heard anything but I would expect a general revamp of the keyboard, not just a lekker version of the existing wooting one.
What certianly doesn't help is that full size still sells best.

#

I have been told by someone of the wooting staff that the wooting two outsold the wooting one by quite a bit at least

reef patrol
#

Judging by who posts on /r/mech yes. There are lots of people who buy the same stuff πŸ˜„

#

I find that hard to believe

#

basically that's just a case of bad data

thick elk
#

I think some studies pointed to dvorak at least didn't show much of an improvement over qwerty. I don;t think it will matter that much in actual typing speed and would be a major hassle to learn. Colemak is supposedly easier but you would still have to learn a new layout and deal with everything that does not have the layout.

I wouldn't recommend it personally, the time would be better spend training typing speed on qwerty.

#

qwerty wasn't designed to be slow typed per se just so keys used together often in english are not next to eachother. This may even have some benefits for motor skills. The matter is probably more one of bottlenecks where moving your finger probably is not the biggest one. Most people have a lot of room for improvement in typing and starting from scratch with a new layout is not very time efficient. It may help a bit in the long to switch but not that much.

#

At least not enough for people who's job it is to type fast and correct for a living to be retrained.

bronze rose
#

One thing that need to be taken into considerations with this layout is egonomic not speed

golden gulch
#

My productivity is limited by brain and not typing speed. 🀀

bronze rose
#

From colemak page: Your fingers on QWERTY move 2.2x more than on Colemak. QWERTY has 16x more same hand row jumping than Colemak. There are 35x more words you can type using only the home row on Colemak.

#

And my point on ergonomics is that you need to reduce the risk of repetitive strain injury and for that Colemak is better

thick elk
#

I doubt the effect is as big as using an ergonomic keyboard though

bronze rose
#

If you use and ergonomic then perfect is better than a non ergonomic one

#

And without the usual ergonomic physical keyboard form, rearranging the keys in a different order can help

cedar glen
#

somewhat unrelated but on my phone I use azerty just to have a bloody extra button on that second row

thick elk
#

Still even if ergonomics is the concern learning a new layout is probably a bigger hurdle than getting a different keyboard.
Granted switching the layout and learning a new layout is less of a financial investment.

cedar glen
#

dunno why qwerty layout wastes it

thick elk
#

I can modify the layout of my keyboard app at will but I never bothered. Hmm a dedicated ctrl would be useful (termux)

Which keyboard and app its?

method names dont care about capital letters, thats a stlye guide thing not a language feature

it does on visual studio

wheat plume
#

XD

#

yup

#

there is a benchmark program for testing graphics cards called Furmark

it is so intense and causes so much stress to the GPU that there is a risk the GPU catches on fire or other physical damage to it

#

GPU makers actually throttle the GPU if they detect Furmark running on the system

ashen spindle
#

while it is basically a power virus

#

it doesnt actually catch on fire unless something is actually broken on the cooler or so

#

and I've never heard amd or nvidia looking for furmark to throttle cards

#

wouldnt make much sense since they could just update the tool to run differently or so

wheat plume
#

hmmm

zenith sonnet
#

Yesn't

#

It hasn't really been an issue for a long time now

#

Nvidia certainly did some detection stuff to see if Furmark is running and more aggressively limit their cards. Iirc that was Kepler/Fermi era?
I think AMD did too, but much less aggressively so

#

Nowadays, power delivery is so sophisticated, that it's not needed any more

#

Cards don't just have thermal limits, but also all kinds of current, voltage and power limits

#

Nvidia in particular has very stict power limits, that can't be edited like AMDs

wheat plume
#

on a video about microsoft windows 10x

ashen spindle
#

?

#

if you use a mac to not run mac software that sounds like more points to that not being great?

wheat plume
#

if you want to use some windows apps you cant use on mac then bootcamp is great

#

you cant do the reverse at all on windows

ashen spindle
#

ok but mac allowing other stuff because mac is shit doesnt make it less shit

wheat plume
#

if you switch to windows and still want to use final cut pro or whatever you just fucked yourself unless you do GPU passthrough on a VM

ashen spindle
#

like if the good thing about a product is that you can ignore it and use something else, that's not how I would describe something I call good

wheat plume
#

is it hard to install bootcamp?

ashen spindle
#

no clue I never touched a mac

wheat plume
#

oh nvm

#

its literally already installed

#

yeah no, its stupid easy to install it

ashen spindle
#

ok but even moreso it then is just saying "hey we make it really easy to use something else because we know our stuff isnt great"

#

obviously exaggerating, but saying you can run windows as an argument why mac is better than the windows solution is a bit weird

wheat plume
#

it doest give you the windows iso

#

or activation

#

you need to do that yourself

#

but once you have the iso you select it and it does the rest for you

ashen spindle
#

okay but then you do it and use windows, so I still dont get the point

#

like the only thing this shows, is that macs only exists because peopel cant do it the other way around because you cant get macOS iso files that easily

wheat plume
#

you need a mac to get the iso from the app store

#

yup...

ashen spindle

so we come to the conclusion that comment doesnt make much sense

I think it's common for impressionable people, especially younger people, to test and then try to align with what it says rather than being themselves naturally and I don't think that's healthy

#

esp since the results could vary on a regular basis depending on how you feel about a specific topic

lethal wasp
#

I'm mid 20s and only aware of it on the past year or so

#

it would make schooling better imo

#

I've done it 3-4 times over a few years and always got ISTP

timid chasm
#

different results for both me and the wife depending on how we feel

#

Neither her nor any of those she works with in her field have any use for it. I get that it was useful in the 40s for sure but modern day it seems less useful to me

lethal wasp
#

self reflection can be dishonest

#

because what's real and what we want to believe don't always align

#

like being fat and admitting it

#

for instance

#

it's measurable, it's not subjective

#

but somehow people deny it

timid chasm
#

being fat is based on guidelines people came up with

lethal wasp
#

well send a land whale to hunt and see how it goes

timid chasm
#

sure professionals have vetted it but it can still be subjective, esp since we evolve over time and things like BMI has changed

lethal wasp
#

obesity is a modern problem

#

high calorific density for no expenditure

#

with primitive brains that still seek it out

#

and can't adjust to understand its simply not needed

hence links between IQ and self destructive behaviours

#

smokers are dumb, literally

#

also CO2 levels rising have lowered average IQ as a side effect too

#

I'd be interested in any source linking destructive behavior to IQ. Because I doubt it. πŸ€” I read exactly the opposite, not about smoking but alcohol consumption... 🍻

lethal wasp

which is a slightly higher function, no?

I just googled these and haven't read them recently tbf

is it FUD?

old marlin

this isn't about a security flaw

#

it is about intel killing future server hardware

ashen spindle

yea

#

we just dont know yet if it's some xeon launch, or optane or GPU etc.

Because... you still need to power the damn keyboard πŸ˜„

I'm sure there could totally be a wooting one wireless module

my friend got a note 8t last tuesday, we tried to unlock it using the xiaomi unlock tool and it told him he needs to wait a week, so hopefully itll work tomorrow

thick elk

locked bootloaders are still very much a thing sadly

reef patrol

They don't really make sense here. You're just forced to keep paying for your old subscription.

thick elk
#

Oh no that's a different type of lock. we are talking about locked from installing custom roms not from different sim cards

#

the reason the sim locks where there was because you where basically leasing the phone from your provider.

reef patrol
#

I see. Just read the part about SMS and tools - Which definitely sounded like the old sim locks πŸ˜„

wheat plume

Ahah!

#

It's like xiaomi legit want you to try out Miui for a week before unlocking the bootloader

Cause my friend needs to wait until tomorrow to try again

wheat plume

old marlin
#

seams like they want to carry the server market share with faster persistent memory I guess

using suhide instead of magisks buikt in hide function

wheat plume
#

and today I had to do it for my friend

Also, TWRP doesnt install but orangefox did

Orangefox is better in so many ways though

wheat plume
wheat plume
wheat plume

Usually I never got above 3mb/s in this house

fair gull
#

@wheat plume yes magis forces a reset on any phone with a decent rom cause of encryption

halcyon moss
#

Apparently Magisk isnt effective anymore when you flashed the bootloader. root hiding still works

wheat plume
#

@fair gull never had that happen

fair gull
#

literally always happens when u flash a bootloader

lethal wasp
#

why is the huntsman TE still double the price of the huntsman

wheat plume
#

Hmm
I installed orangefox recovery from inside TWRP

I didn't lose any data

#

@fair gull it happens when you unlock the bootloader but that only needs to happen once

fair gull
#

guess whats part of flashing

#

and guess what people usually dont do cause they dont want the dumb unlocked bl message on a phone that is brand new and doesnt even have magisk support

#

and guess what happens when they like magisk but have 500gb of data

wheat plume
#

Well
When you install a new rom

Everything is wiped except internal storage

#

So all you photos and music and things are still there

fair gull
#

yes everything includes apps

wheat plume
#

Yeah

#

But with play store backup it auto installs them

fair gull
#

ya and i lose all the progress

#

gg

#

u cant assume all apps having cloud backups for settings/progress

wheat plume
#

They don't :/

fair gull
#

and thats the shit part

#

i cant even backup MY app data on MY phone before i wipe it or smth

halcyon moss
#

When you unlock the bootloader, you have to wipe everything. this is a security precaution.

wheat plume
#

You can take backups with orangefox

halcyon moss
#

on most phones

fair gull
#

a dumb one

#

i chose to unlock it so why wipe my data

halcyon moss
#

but what if its a stolen phone? thats why

#

i also do not agree with it :p

fair gull
#

how the shit would u unlock the bootloader then

wheat plume
#

If it's stolen
They would already have connected it to PC and copied everything from it

fair gull
#

its literally also blocked in settings and they couldnt do the settings cause phone is locked

#

@wheat plume most phones prompt for it behibd the lockscreen

#

so again lockscreen would literally save u from getting anything stolen

#

and FRP saves ur phone from being useful

wheat plume
#

I know
On xiaomi you have to have an authorised mi account and use their unlock tool on PC to unlock your phone

#

Authorised as in you used miui for longer than a week

#

And was logged into your account that whole time

ashen spindle

also some kiiiinda weird configutration

ashen spindle

in reality

reef patrol

8GB on something like a 2080 and then 16GB for system. But also more overhead of course.

I have 32gb

old marlin

Not the best performance, but MS can't cheat science either.

dapper ridge

ray tracing

#

hmmm

ashen spindle
#

yes thats old news

dapper ridge
#

I thought ray tracing was nvidia tech

#

is it on amd?

reef patrol

But honestly... I think MS have learned from their mistakes. The XBone didn't have any proprietary storage as I recall.

Both Xbox OG (memory cards which were just USB sticks with a weird pinout) and 360 (Click on external harddrive, which was just a generic 2,5" in a shell)

cedar glen
#

ray tracing exists before nvidia even existed

nvidia just made a meme out of it with RTX

ashen spindle

ray tracing exited in like the 70s already

dapper ridge

ic

reef patrol

AMD are coming with hardware cores for RT yes

nvidia just has the first gpu with raytraycing acellerating hardware

thank you

cedar glen

also a vega 56 beat RTX cards in dealing with actual RTX on the crytek engine

but that is not an RTX feature in cryengine

cedar glen

it's RTX with a different name

ashen spindle

its raytraycing yes but not the way the RT cores can be fully made use of

old marlin
#

direct raytracing pls

cedar glen
#

just doesn't have a (c)nVidia next to it

ashen spindle

no its much more different

the cryengine has RTX raytracing?

ashen spindle

no only custom raytracing

but not the full feature list

fair gull

ya was about to say its news to me

ray tracing audio?

#

wat?

ashen spindle
#

yes also nothing new

dapper ridge
#

no

#

Im confused

old marlin
#

hello half life

dapper ridge

I thought ray tracing was graphics

ashen spindle
#

amd did it with true audio a while ago but it never took off

#

no its just math, finding the way a line takes

dapper ridge
#

ic

#

hmm

fair gull
#

its just that graphics raytracing with real time reflections is a ton of maths

#

did i say a ton? i meant a fuck ton

cedar glen
#

they're just trying to use the word raytracing a lot because nvidia made it cool

#

they'd say the controller has raytracing if they could, for marketing

ashen spindle
#

it doesnt really matter if you call it raytracing, raycasting or whatever, it's always been the same thing

old marlin
#

raycasting is something else though

#

raycasting is purely 2D

ashen spindle
#

uhh no

#

they are used for different things with the same name

old marlin
#

Ray casting is the use of ray–surface intersection tests to solve a variety of problems in 3D computer graphics and computational geometry. The term was first used in computer graphics in a 1982 paper by Scott Roth to describe a method for rendering constructive solid geometry...

#

uhh yes

fair gull
#

Ray casting is the use of ray–surface intersection tests to solve a variety of problems in 3D computer graphics and computational geometry.

#

literally the first line

#

3D

old marlin
#

well

#

it is pseudo 3D

fair gull
#

yes?

old marlin
#

as 3D as wolfenstein 3D is

fair gull
#

dont bend ur argument

#

ray casting and ray tracing are the same

ashen spindle
#

it can be used for 2d but not limited to 2d

fair gull
#

and are both used in 3d and 2d

ashen spindle
#

you just usually use tracing if you make it bounce and track it, casting if you care about what you hit, but it's just used interchangeably

old marlin
#

I mean you oculd use it in 3D

#

to make a raster in layers

#

for ray tracing

#

no wait

#

nvm

#

I mean

#

then normal 3D graphics usually already do raycasting, no?

ashen spindle
#

yes

old marlin
#

unless you use an orthogonal camera

ashen spindle
#

just not realtime usually

old marlin
#

which would basically be the same

#

why wouldn't you do it real time

#

?

fair gull
#

theres a reason why lightmaps are usually precompiled

#

and not realtime

old marlin
#

don't you need it to cull correctly etc

ashen spindle
#

hardware cant do it in >1fps

old marlin
#

you already have lightmaps etc

#

and don't do bounces

fair gull
#

well non rtx hardware sucks at real time ray tracing

#

even rtx has problems

old marlin
#

I odn't mean tracing

pale sigil
#

im falling asleep

old marlin
#

I mean the "refelctionless" casting

fair gull
#

ray casting is smth u dont do with lights either in realtime

old marlin
#

@pale sigil then don't watch the ps5 stream lol

dapper ridge
#

how long is this

fair gull
#

reflectionless? global maps? cube maps?

old marlin
#

yea

fair gull
#

precompiled

old marlin
#

not really reflections for that case

fair gull
#

well they are

old marlin
#

kinda

fair gull
#

just from a fixed point

#

and precompiled

old marlin
#

yea

#

you don't do them real time

fair gull
#

exactly

#

cause too heavy

old marlin
#

I mean I own powerful RTX hardware now

#

but it just doesn't deliver enough benefit in 99% of cases to even be a considerations

dapper ridge
#

he said evolution

#

πŸ‘€

fair gull
#

well its fairly new and most engines dont natively support it

#

plus many people dont know how to use it in the indie world

#

plus its only a benefit to rtx owners

#

and no one else really

#

but for rendering and ai they are super useful

ashen spindle
#

chicken/egg, its out now so we will see more

fair gull
#

or repurposing rt cores for password cracking

ashen spindle
#

latest unity version finally has rtx stuff built in to a degree for example

old marlin
#

current hardware is too weak for most use cases anyways

#

makes the chicken/egg problem even bigger

fair gull
#

ngl the games that do have rtx look better with it enabled
