It appears that someone is still updating it, so I dunno where that info came from
maybe cause its 11 years old
but not updated in 2years
which is info found on the official mpchc website
I got the size from Wikipedia
ah yes the most trustable source
the mpv exe is 58mb
my entire mpchc install folder is 47mb
Size Source code: 2.9 MB (tar.gz)
source != actual exe
Like it matters anyway, either is tiny by today's standards
ah before it was "mpchc seems to be bloated" now its "who cares anyway"
i smell a big fat bias
mpv is 80mb in total with everything
so almost twice as heavy
The bloat argument came from you
I don't care
and prob has an infinite amount of shit i will not need
What else would that mean?
its to tell you that a normal user wont need all the extra shit you want from a dumb video player
why not invest into a cinema reel to reel player
and a basement for an actual cinema room
Either has a lot of shit I'll never need.
I've used both and preferred mpv. Only downside is that it's a little more difficult to use if you don't get built with a GUI for it.
Felt more responsive, IQ seemed slightly better, and it was easier to set up all in all.
Found a new terminal emulator to use!!
Alacritty is a free and open source terminal emulator written in Rust. It is cross-platform and supports GNU/Linux, BSD, MacOS and Windows. It uses GPU acceleration and claims to be the fastest terminal emulator ever. It is also quite customizable. Because of these points...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aupKGm8MGAU hm looks like we might have a 3rd ram option for top-ram components if d-dies stays consistent
So I actually destroyed the win10 install when doing the push for 50XX MHz. That's why it stopped booting.

and died after 2 months
?
thats like double the clock isnt it
uh yea and?
i cant imagine the components doing that for super long
uhh you do know that stuff like 4000mhz or even higher is something you can buy with normal warranty?
yes but those are designed to run that fast
source
look at the catalogue of any ddr4 manufacturer, they don't sell higher than jedec
corsair etc. just bin them
if you need high voltage then yes you run into that issue but those chips just get put at lower voltage in slower kits
https://www.micron.com/products/dram/ddr4-sdram/part-catalog 3200 is the highes you find here yet they are sold in 4000+ kits etc.
thats like saying "look at intel they dont sell 6ghz cpus yet i run mine that fast" and then just not really mentioning the toll it takes on the hardware
just because smth can run that fast does not mean its designed to
same for the 4000 kits
but overclocking cpu's is kinda the same, if you don't increase the voltage it doesn't really matter because higher voltage is what degrades silicon faster, higher usage not really
its not like you get these 6ghz at stock vcore
ddr4 is safe till like 2volt and iirc most kits run below 1.5 or 1.2 even if youre at 2xxx speeds
that's happens when #Ubuntu #AI and #Robotics meet :)
Music
Misirlou (Locomodo Cover)
You can't run DDR4 at 2V...
For B-die 1.5-1.55V is the limit for longevity
ah maybe it was 2v at LN2, not sure, I heard 2v in regards to ram somewhere
ah ye he was talking about 2-2.1 on b die for benchmakring, 1.6 for daily you're right
that 5ghz ram I linked was on air
That's crazy
not really, because its not stable but can be validated
but means it could be used for lower speeds at stable timings
Ah, I was a little off as far as the records are concerned
~6GHz is record
5.1 was for Zen 2, I think
but if a random 2666 rated kit can do 5 at 1.8V it's quite likely good bins of it can be used for 4.x ghz at safer voltage, so we'd have another good module option
Iirc D-die can do high clocks, but only at fairly loose timings
We'd have to see performance records with it for it to be a good alternative
idk CL24 doesn't seem very loose to me for 5ghz
and he loosend up timings to go higher, not for a stable/best result around
Ehhh...
It'll definitely be delayed due to the situation in China. And no chipset is slated to use it yet.
CL24 is pretty loose, though
yes but it's a random stick from ebay rated for only 2666
it's just a case of "hey potentially bins of this version can be used for top modules"
Isn't D-die 'supposed' to be a successor to B-die anyway?
Like, more advanced process?
Not surprised they needed longer to iron out the process kinks then
beats noctua d15
dont look inside my case that much so it's def something I'll buy 😄
for my next build!
damn that legit looks worse than a D15
also wait like 3 years and noctua will release cooler endgame
although, dual tower NH A14x25 could be close to release
Now put Noctua fans on it
I'm curious to see how Corsairs new non RGB D15 like performs.
Still haven't gotten it out of box.
Also, need a few more reviews to see if it consistently performs better
If it does, then that's awesome
And we can expect something even better from Noctua in 1-2 years
I mean...they just released black coolers.
And they did that because they improved thermals enough for the paint not to do worse than the bare models.
Uhhh... Powder coated? I think?
I think Linus mentioned it in his review or something.
Of that smaller, new super model in the Air vs AIO video
yeah was something like that
It’s a ceramic coating

gotta give them credit, this was funny.
Yes hello hi. I help tests compwutah thing, and you feed me?
corsair mice
AND CPU coolers. 😁
also that is a spy for snowball
the CPU coolers of them are alright
can't say sht about the aircooler
although it is definetley overpriced
and has no coldplate
Time will definitely tell. Putting it up against my D15 with a 8700K.
true
the only reason I'd want a scimitar would be to make a nutty claw mouse out of it
the sidebuttons are too trash though
also quality is shit
sad that the model o has the highest build quality that comes out of the factory
of the mice I know of
I don't like it personally. I can't rest my thumb on the side without hitting s button. Two buttons on the side is plenty for me.
They're tiny. 😅
yea
and flat
no travel
the only "mmo" mouse that doesn't have that is the razer naga trinity
actually a decent although heavy mouse
and already pretty weight optimized
Got some good recommendations for a cooler for a 3950x? Friend said he’s using a rog ryuo 240 and it‘s not good enough, not too versed in watercooling myself
oof
360mm doesn't perform a lot better
280 is similar
so either 280 or 360mm if you don't wanna go custom
what you get basicalyl is irrelevant
all asetek
only difference is fans
yea
for 240mm not really
for 280 and 360 surely
also depending on the cooler heat distribution can be worse on air coolers
teh new corsair cooelr for example
no coldplate means your hotspots will be relying on one or two heatpipes
reminds me @reef patrol you should test the corsair cooler on a higher end ryzen 3000 chip if you have one as well
Sorry but no. 😅
rip
it will likely perform abyssmal with the 3950X
cause it doesn't sue a coldplate
so everything with heatspot that are offcenter will perform worse
and since the 3950X is a chiplet design the hotspot is quite far off the center
so most of the heat is distributed to 1-3 heatpipes
hyper 212 has the same problems with chiplet CPUs
Wonder how long until we see waterblocks designed for Chiplet CPUs
Also, even with a custom loop my 3700X gets hot
It's just too high heat density
3950X won't fare better
no point, they are all different to make one for all, and it doesnt even really make a difference if it's just a good plate
also he has 60C idle on his so might be some other issue
For comparison:
3700X has a delta of 32°C under load, at ~90W
My VII has a delta of 8°C, at 200W load
60°C idle is definitely some issue
Reapply the cooler
he did
Then, run Ryzen Master and see if it idles properly
think he's trying undervolting it a bit and see if that helps
When the system is idle it shouldn't run more than 1-2 cores at 200-500MHz
If it doesn't, some power options are wonky
And UV does not help
could also just be a cooler issue, he got a different cooler on the way
Unless it's a manual OC, you cannot control voltage directly
The CPU will sense it gets less voltage, and request more
I have an i3 conf in my documents but idk where I got it but I can send you it if you want
i3blocks conf too
@fickle ore https://www.techpowerup.com
Allows you to enable MSI now
This link
I pre-ordered the icegiant thermosiphon cooler
Excited to see how well it performs with the 3800x
Max tdp is around 500w
Got so used to playing mc at 60-70fps
just oppned d2 for the first time in a while
and im getting that 144hz high again
My god its glorious
modded + 1440p dont mix well
ye not how it works on modded, even if your fps is like 100+
there is so much stutter etc
it feels like 50-60
even with sttings changed
you can be on the lowest settings and it will make 0 difference
because of chunk updates from mods
etc
its a never ending performance battle with modded
Plasma!!!
I love that desktop
I think I may change back to it
Gnome is very elegant but boring
Yeh ;_; I loved i3 but setting it up takes too much effort
Yeah....kind of
I love the arco Linux thing they have to give you power options
In regular i3 you can only logout and you need to use the mouse to click the button but in Arco Linux they have a shortcut that gives you a menu that you can use the keyboard on to let you reboot or shut down and whatever
this new line is new
I think the highlighting of messages when you mouse over then is kinda ugly, but I like the options they added
kinda old
Meh, I do appreciate message spacing being reduced but still no multiwindow
this update is great i can add ricardo so much easier now
it's also memoryleaking if you're using discord in portrait monitors for some reason
i get like 1 fps
#professionalwebdevs
ok its starting to drive me nuts
😄
y tho
mansen has no power over me https://giphy.com/gifs/RX3vhj311HKLe

i haven't spoken to calder in so long ngl
possibly but idk how to, is there a way to make qbittorrent totally quit when you close the window?
🤔 I dont trust the sound of that
heya, i am looking for a good & cheap 4k TV. any recommendations?
looking at xiaomi, i can only see a projector, no tv
and with "this", what do you mean?
systemd?
they do have TV, they are called Mi tv or something like that
on the website i can only see a projector under the Mi TV section
ooh
....
No jetbrains for you.

closed youtube once update downloaded
Finally got my hands on the retail unit of the Huawei Mate X, and yes it can run Google apps, albeit unofficially
To read more on how the Mate X was able to run Google, please read: https://www.forbes.com/sites/bensin/2020/02/02/huaweis-foldable-mate-x-can-run-google-apps-al...
why these folding devices
yay more richboi phones
hey it means actual useful features might go down in price when stuff like this becomes the halo product
Hauwei have the software side on this phone nailed down 100% ❤️
that smooth ass glide when you fold it open when the app fills up the whole screen is stunning
id be so scared using that phone
so expensive and stuff like the back screen being on a table
yup
o?
meh its just like the first time smartphones came out, with the difference that they had trouble getting bending screens to work on time, after a while it'll be a normal potential feature
when we find a way to make a material as tough as glass but bendy then it will change folding phones forever
Personally I would much prefer a small bezel between the two halves over having a phone that is forced to use plastic which I know will scratch pretty fast.
Especially Huawei's solution with the screen folding outwards.
ZTE did that on one phone and it looks pretty decent.
small bezel is shit
has been done before is crap
no bezel would be possible rn but get any dirt or sand in it and the screen is dead
they could maybe put a thin glass layer in/on the plastic to increase hardness on the flat areas at least
I don't think that would be viable.
it also wouldn't protect the most sensitive prone to damage area of the screen
From what I have seen dual screen phone's mostly suffered from software issues rather than a flawed concept. Sure having one app fill both screens is not great but it's essentially a dual monitor setup for a phone.
yay my search is broken
nice
joys
its a system wide issue
tried most suggested fixes but none worked
any suggestions
Apparently its a widespread issue
LOL
Search is tied to online
its dependent on bing
0 votes and 118 comments so far on Reddit
have to disable it in regedit
ye
xD
it cant!
What a complete joke
Well yes but i mean
No average user will know this
so there are gonna be a lot of people out there now
Windows 10 QA strikes again
Meanwhile, another bugfix AMD driver
They're pumping them out at a weekly rate these days
Lets see how long they keep this up
and they no longer list a previously known issue with some vega cards
also, watch out for Big Navi Infro on March 5th
looks like both big navi and ampere are on track for summer-ish launches
but not sure if I'd prefer big navi or ampere to come out first, navi first means we might get lower prices on nvidia's side, other way might cause lower navi prices
The regedit to remove bing from the taskbar is a godsend. I'm just trying to find a program or file, Bill
ye, it's funny that it also fixes the newest search bug, was wondering what everyone was complaining, as I had already removed bing ages ago so I never got the bug
I really wish they'd just made it a control panel setting. And cleaned up the settings while they are at it. Had to explain to several people how to remove the windows 10 mouse smoothing and they get lost every time
Funny thing is that it used to be an easy toggle in search settings...
I should just run an old version of windows 10 with auto updates regedited out next time I have to do a reinstall which is gonna be sooner than later because registry errors are so common in win10
It's really a shit OS and I much preferred windows 7, I should have bought that pricey samsung nvme with working windows 7 drivers or spent the 10 hours of work to figure out how to use that open source project nvme driver and put it in a windows iso
I really need to make a list of all the regedits and settings I have to change for the inevitable reinstalls
HALLPPP what do I choose?
OBS
I use OBS to record games, but I use this to record short clips of the desktop
I'd say try it both ways and see what works better for you. TBH I'm not sure what flipping is, so someone else may have to cover for me from now on, but it's at least worth a quick check to find out whether flipping is ok for you or not
having SimpleScreenRecorder open causes A LOT of screen tearing for some reason.... WTF?
not evem recording...just having the app open
Time to uninstall
I'm not gonna let some app change video setting :o
Spent ages
trying to figure out why i cant fucking use smb or nfs
MY ISP BANNED THE PORTS
Every other other time when booting my computer, I get a BSOD during start-up referencing hyberfil.sys.
I can press F1 - Recovery Options => Advanced => continue to Windows 10, and have no other issues
Any idea what it could be?
I don't even use it, so I could
But iirc the hiberfil is also important for crashdumps?
The hibernation file is literally just a RAM dump, so it can boot up fast again. So I guess?

Anyone ever tried the Ultimate Performance power plan with Ryzen, btw?
just disable fastboot in windows
windows doesnt actually shutdown
its going into a mix of hibernation and shutting down
I have that on? Lemme check
@zenith sonnet its on by default
It's off by default on my X570 Aorus Master
Yeah you're thinking of fast POST 😄
not bios fastboot
Bios has a setting called Fast Boot, too
Which is what I just explained - It skips parts of the POST.
🤷
Is that 'power buttons and lid' under 'power options'?
Found it
Wait, why is restart not affected?
Basically, because you don't really need to when turning it off every evening?
I've never noticed the PC starting faster anyway
Correct.
And NVMEs are so fast these days, that the change isn't big. Try doing it on a HDD 😄
I'm turning off hibernation anyway, though
idk, true boot is often good thing. fast boot and hibernate usually accumulate errors in the OS and most bugs are due to that, "user error" except its windows fault
Makes me ultimately wonder if my System is accumulating errors that only come to light when reloading the hiberfile
idk why they dont get rid of fast boot and hibernate with now we all have SSD's -.
Legacy hardware?
And the Fast Boot in BIOS just seems to load fewer devices during POST
Yeah it just skips test steps and checking for bootable devices on USB, Ethernet and so on.
And in the case of a customer PC I worked on yesterday... also NVME
Durrrrrr
Emacs then
u mean like u are rn mage?
or just use nano and not miss a thing
calls mage incapable
vim and emacs are elitist things tho
99% of its user base are gatekeeping
same its needlesly complicated
use arrow keys and type
isnt hard to use
Google maps got a change of icon
I just got update for it and thinks it's strange
:p
🤔 but I am using plasma desktop, why is Mutter installed?
so u can mutter words of confusion
😂
?????????
I just logged out, sure enough I have gnome desktop installed somehow 🤔 dafuq???? I installed this OS YESTERDAY
k, I uninstalled it now there is a crap ton of updates
vim is pretty easy once you've learned some basic commands
i don't know all the sweet shortcuts for selecting multiple lines of text and block editing and all that, but find/replace, basic editing, and saving are ez
vi/vim was also built to keep your hands on the keyboard because using the mouse is inefficient
that's why you can use jkl; to move instead of arrow keys when you're outside of editing mode
you literally dont need to take your hands off home row lol
somebody here has any clue what the differences in RFID cards are
like why are some 90 euros for a pack of 100
and some are like twice that
from the same brand
oh wait
it is how much memory they have
ok
well that explains it
Either how much memory or 0 block writable
0block writable means the ID can be changed
Shouldn't hotkeys nowadays bind to a specific key on the keyboard, not a specific letter?
I've noticed, that most programs I use do it the way I described
Used an entirely custom keyboard layout for a few years, and never had any issues that hotkeys weren't where they were supposed to be
Which also meant, any mnemonism was usually broken
I've used Windows, maybe that's why
Cause Windows already does it that way
And most games use direct key/raw input
Most games will bind to the physical keys where WASD would be on a QWERTY keyboard
In config menu's, they display whatever letter Windows translates this key to
Met very few exceptions to that rule
@fickle ore Know anything about HDCP causing lag/stutter? Or is that some snake oil again?
i mean i have heard of hdcp causing cursor lag
but that was like 2018 or so
will prob not hurt to disable it tho unless u watch netflix hd or blurays or smth
I don't, so it's off for now
I didn't realize how good TR CPUs are at gaming yet
I WANT ONE
I'd love to have a 3970X
any coders here?
i am looking for a tool to compare two txt files that mostly contain the same infos but are sorted differently, like they have the same content but one was written or sorted a-z and the 2nd one was written following a timely order , is there a way to compare them without doing it manually line by line? tried notepad++ compare but that doesn't do the trick
winmerge
thanks
wait no not for what you need
Kekekekke. Apple fined (again) for slowing down phones without telling users. 😁
yea not unless it's some gdpr level of fine
even then it's not always enough, see facebook stock going up after having to pay a few billions
They earn the EU some much needed money, heh
they earn the eu a fraction of what those companies should pay in taxes
if trump doesn't win again I hop the dnc winner will do what Warren planned, split them up so we dont have giant tech firms controlling literally everything
but as they already showed they'd rather boycott their own party again, I'm already feeling like trump won the next election already
different topic, but ye, gdpr will make the eu some money, if only there were good plans on how to use it
I fully agree it's a shit system that doesn't work...but it's the best one we've got at the moment. 😦
anyone here an expert on modems?
i'm an expert on hating them
buddy is getting a sync timing synchronization error leading to 5 second disconnects that boots him back to main menu on various games
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nb2tebYAaOA man talks like this are so interesting, makes me really excited for when next gen intel cpus come out and we get some more in depth interviews with jim
Jim Keller is a legendary microprocessor engineer, having worked at AMD, Apple, Tesla, and now Intel. He's known for his work on the AMD K7, K8, K12 and Zen microarchitectures, Apple A4, A5 processors, and co-author of the specifications for the x86-64 instruction set and Hyp...
so amd shit in the future?
so interesting, makes me really excited for when next gen intel cpus come out
Because he obviously can’t talk about stuff he’s working on before it’s public
so this is about performance
Well it’s part of it obviously
But in reverse kinda, if they manage amazing performance uplifts it will be more likely he has interesting topics he can talk about
No I just want more interviews with him after he worked on more stuff because he’s a really smart guy and very good at talking about stuff
i only listened to like a few minutes but he sounds like an audio book of research papers
which is cgi baking
Pretty accurate description actually. With enough philosophy to make it interesting before it gets too much philosophy and thus boring for me haha
damn
jelly
yeah what a deal
too bad its still more expensive than getting one from amazon.com and ship it to uk
the "reduced" price is basically msrp
Lord help me this board is hard to (re)learn. I really need to get some Ergodox keycaps.
you mean something like DSA caps?
btw does somebody here know a good self hosted password manager?
with client programms, no stupid fees and group policies
OHEMGEE, a ninox astrum update 😮
nice
he is still alive
Basically it boils down to "Yeah I wanted the project to be done a year ago but now there's a virus fucking over China."
Or I could be wrong and just read it in the form of TLDR
hey im just glad he isnt dead
well he blames the factory for taking ages to make a tooling
and now can't continue because of corona
basically sounds like he is pushing around who or what to blame
why does it feel like he wont be able to deliver
i feel like hes waiting for the next thing to blame the wait time on that
problem is that it was a good mouse at the time of the campaign
but since then mice have nto stopped changing
and caught up at least
80g isn't especially new at basically any size
I just got informed that more ram for minecraft servers can mean worse performance lol
yes
10gb
is the most you will ever need
and the most you should ever use
java suk
same
the ram thing is only for default server jar tho
papercraft and spigot actually run better with like 16gb or 32gb
from what I've read/experienced it impacts paper spigot and shit
ouch
4 -6 players max
idk best perf i had so far was paper with 30gb and async chunk gen
store them in a 1x1 block
with a vine
having them in vine turns off their collision detection and reduces AI costs
easy fix dont have sheep
oof
is something forge
slaughter them all
yep
had to do some massive work on trying to reduce lag for a forge server I was running
which apparently is hard t oset up
we had to remove a lot of mods
thankfully tho
forge has some good tps mangement shit
and you can really pinpoint what is causing your performance drops
i run all my mc servers with nodejs
thats what the weird minecraft node shit already does
please switch to something performance oriented
its actually nice for having bots in vanilla mc
actually for bots in geberal
*general
I prefer humans
they can connect to any server without needing mods etc
but ya nodejs isnt made for this kinda stuff
is java?
just wish there was a c# ver that works with the current java servers
as in same protocol etc
same algos
I wish it did not take a super computer to run minecraft with good performance
same
im disappointed at myself
spent the last 10 minutes googling for terminfo stuff
decided to rtfm
and bam
right there in the man page
all the terminfo shit I was looking for
nvidia rep about the GTX 970 and just 3.5GB useable...
@dapper ridge y u no play on our serer
I usually only play on my own servers, recently been playin on a friend's server that I am a co owner of the community for

this is so fascinating
any recommnedations for a 1440p VA monitor? gsynch or at least gsynch compatible, 27' ideal but 32 might work too
which I've already done and thus am looking for cross referencing stuff
My AOC ticks those boxes except gsync 😞
I would generally recommend against monitors with the gsync module, as they will be limited if you ever switch of nvidia.
They are changing that with future monitors but older ones I would not recommend. Also the price will probably be such that they are a bad choice anyway.
not for me, work colleague who has 2 980ti's in sli
Uh no, qlum? The gsync is a toggle module.
It isn't on unless you want it to.
They aren't limited though.
That's like saying ANY monitor is limited.
😄
That his cautionary tale is moot.
Most high end monitors don't even HAVE dedicated gsync modules. The tech has superceded them.
The problem I am pointing out is that in the current monitors with gsync modules adaptive sync is locked to just Nvidia. They recently changed that for future monitors but what already exists does not benefit.
No?
It's all software at this point
They have their own syncs 😁
Not that most people use or need either. Gsync is most effective at low FPS. Which still doesn't harmonize with the cost of a 144-240hz monitor setup.
still helps against tearing even at higher fps etc.
though the main point I was looking at was VA and 1440p, not high refresh rate
yes but for input lag its better
Input lag is such a buzzword. 😁
its not gigantic differences ofc
Not to mention most games offer engine FPS limits these days which eliminate the need for syncing altogether.
Not when it's negligible. Unless you're a true pedant. At which point you've already bought that Gsync monitor and nVidia card.
yesn't because max fps=refresh rate is not always the ideal setup, at least in games like csgo/tf2
no there have been people spending way too much time in the source engine, figuring out that stuff like 101 fps for 100hz or exact double max fps of hz is better etc.
Besides we kind of went way off track compared to the initial tooic.
Lemme know when you've got some high speed footage of that. It'd love to compare.
it's been years since I played tf2 competitively and looked at that, don't know if I could find the old threads again
Beside csgoy is a whole other beast. You'll want a 240hz panel and be running the game at something like 800x600 low. If not 4:3
Pffft... Keep offering up empty arguments and you'll tire out the other side I guess.
Pedantry abound.
usually I'd agree with mansen, it still confuses me how source works that it's different here
part of it is because it plays together with the network, not just rendering alone. that causes these desired fps limits
Anyhoo. To return to the original point.
Choosing not to buy a Gsync capable monitor in 2020 on the basis of "you'll be limited" is factually wrong and a tad silly.
Ever since nVidia opened theoretical Gsync support on all monitors, provided circuitry can handle it (spoiler my monitor cannot in spite of being 1440p 144hz) makes all monitors "Gsync" in spirit.
The companies who use dedicated gsync modules as a sales pitch are trying to burn off stock before the market catches on and Gsync becomes a "gamer monitor" expected feature at the lowest price points.
Now...I've got pancakes to make.
ye, anyway, tagging @old marlin as you're the only one I remember talking about monitors a lot here: any suggestion for VA 1440p monitor, 27" preferred, should have gsync or be compatible at least
dark room, VA should be better for that
afaik for 1440p the LG UltraGear 27GL850-B should still be king
at least that's what I've been able to find about ips vs va, that the later one offers better contrast for usage in rooms without much light
yea that is basically what LG does
getting the best thing at every pricepoint
some exceptions with asus in the very high end
and some alienware mixed in with competitive prices
yea but they mostly just use the same panel as other good monitors and thats why they are good, they dont do anything special
yea
IPS and VA have their strong points and weaknesses.
dunno if anybody uses the nano-IPS panels atm
well yea
LGs current IPS panels get rid of most downsides
IPS has better colour range, but VA has better contrast and light.
And that nasty smearing effect when transitioning from blacks
well guess well try to find something at work tomorrow then, actually surprised how hard that combo is to find even, really thought there would be more va panels now, tftcentral even only has one model they reviewed that fits 16:9 criteria lmao
I want his computer, he just built this new one
RTX 2080..... pois\d'jgfiuoarshgjeusiorth gimme plz

@old marlin @ashen spindle Dark scenes in a dark room is literally the only thing the 27GL850 sucks at
You got that specific monitor?
Oh sorry, you meant the monitor
Reason I recommend it anyway is, that it's still the only VRR monitor that has a overdrive setting that covers its whole VRR range
i got lucky with my monitor... Freesync/Gsync, 1440p/144hz
27"
great brightness levels
hdr
270 quid
Other than specific models with a g-sync module (adaptive overdrive is the only about it that's actually good)
mine has overdrive but idk how it works or what it does
Overdrive reduces pixel response time
Most monitors have a few settings, all of which cover some FPS bands best
Like, 'Normal' could be good for 60-100Hz, 'Fast' could be good for 120-144Hz, and 'Faster' could be fastest, but introduce so much overshoot that it's literally unusable
Read a good review about your monitor that tests these settings
If in doubt, use 'Normal' for 60 Hz content, and 'Fast' for 144Hz content
@ashen spindle https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/msi/optix-mpg27cq
There are probably more VA than IPS models being released, even for 144Hz WQHD
Thing is, there are very few reviewers that do decent reviews, and they cover at best 10% of the models
That one is one of the best VA monitors out there, it seems. At least for gaming
Unfortunately, they don' test overdrive and pixel response very well. Only at max refresh rate, which does not give you anything about it performs with VRR
@pale sigil Keep it on normal... extreme might work if you're at 144Hz stable

minecraft
i had so much stutter
etc
and as soon as i turned that on
bam
how is that possible
It should not affect stutter
But your monitor might now actually be able to display a frame fully before the next one arrives
@zenith sonnet ye we saw that monitor, but the issue is VRR on nvidia only works on Turing cards, and the system is running 980ti in sli
Btw new galaxy fold has a glass sheet on the display

could at least fix the most obvious flaws
Wait, what? Nvidia 900 series can't do adaptive sync?
turing only
it can on nsync right ?:p
@ashen spindle Uh no: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvidia_G-Sync
G-Sync is a proprietary adaptive sync technology developed by Nvidia aimed primarily at eliminating screen tearing and the need for software alternatives such as Vsync. G-Sync eliminates screen tearing by allowing a video display to adapt to the frame rate of the outputting de...
from the 600 series it is supported
I am using it on pascal right now
.. we're not talking about the gsynch feature via displazport
nvidia finally opend up their cards to use VRR via HDMI on non g-sync monitors, but that is only unlocked for turing
Why would you ever use HDMI over DP?
The only use for this is TVs that don't have DP
And that means you can use VRR on the 980 Ti's
Core i9-10900K: 10c/20t, 3.7 GHz base, 5.3 GHz boost, 4.8 GHz all-core, 125 W, 20 MB L3
Core i9-10900: 10c/20t, 2.8 GHz base, 5.2 GHz boost, 4.5 GHz all-core, 65 W, 20 MB L3
Core i7-10700K: 8c/16t, 3.8 GHz base, 5.1 GHz boost, 4.7 GHz all-core, 125 W, 16 MB L3, a new leak puts the boost clock at 5.3 GHz
God damn it, Intel, even AMD stopped this shit after the 9590
Intel actually does not care. Honestly the brand is mostly carried by the i3-9 label not by the actual part number. Maybe the xth gen but that's about it.
With amd / nvidia the number matters a lot more for marketing so doing what intel is doing just doesn't work as well.
people who actually think about it will understand it anyway.
I'm not talking about the model numbers
Ah though the model numbers are often a point of critique as well.
Well, intel is using what, 3 systems concurrently now?
Anyway, I was talking about the boost blocks
And: that TPD is still at base clock...
Intel makes the turbo with the thought of giving a quick performance boost for things like loading webpages or other Bursty workloads.
Most intel systems do actually work like that and follow the tdp pretty well. Just the niche we care about we just let it turbo for as long as it doesn't overheat. Throwing efficiency out of the window. Your average OEM system won't do that.
If that where the case intel would have have it share in sales drop a lot faster than it actually does. OEM systems are still big business and are still a very large portion of sales. This is a case where reputation and perception still reign supreme.
Let's at least hope the pricing is decent
Maybe they'll slash their consumer CPU prices by 50%, like with HEDT
I'd say if they keep the current 9900k price which is a little bit above the 3900x it should be fine. Gaming performance is a bit better but you lose 2 cores and you will pay with your electricity bill.
sneaks in 9900KF
@thick elk I'm not even sure gaming performance is so much better
a bit like I said
It's still a popular CSGO chip 😄
Does it really matter whether you get 500 or 700 FPS?
You'd be surprised 😄
@reef patrol Do you have 3Dmark physics scores for your 9900K?
Nope. Still running it low till I get my loop up 😦
Gotta check if I still hold my #1 spots ^^
Oh right, never finished an all-core OC ...
Still waiting for my fans to be released 😦
I genuinely never get tired of people talking smack on the Verge PC build video.
verge never made a pc build video
oh yeah
everyone showing you proof has to prove you that their proof isnt a deep fake generated by ai over the course of multiple decades

what I can take from that is the more drives you have of one type the higher the dailure rate is
fml I found out alienware has the perfect monitor for me

I mean as soon as you see high refresh rate, even on desktop, it hsould be clear
60 to 144 is amazing. From there upwards is a lot less noticeable in games for me.
I'll be honest, the thing I noticed most going from 60 to 144 was how smooth the cursor was on my desktop
I really couldn't see much of a difference in games, until I went back down to 60
Well that's worrying
I did not use it and I don't know what used my entire battery up!
Yay!
From my experience the build in battery usage stats are pretty worthless in android right now.
Had a huge battery drain due to the media scanner failing on my sd card nothing of note in the battery states.
Used some root app to see how long processes kept my phone awake / looked at cpu usage. There I found the problem and after that the fix was an easy .nomedia file.
use w3m
Haven't really had any issues with Edge
Edge is going to chromium tho
That's why I mentioned it
are you on preview?
I'm not seeing RAM usage that high, even with 32GiB system memory
eh
Yeah, ever since it went public
I use vivaldi
And it's good
I'm not at home atm, can post some data later
I've been using vivaldi for about 3 years now?
90% of browser memory usage is cache anyway
And using memory as cache is a good thing
60 -120 is day and night
anything above that is a little harder to spot
though not impossible
I can notice the difference between my new LG 27GL850 and my Eizo Foris FS2735
Both are 144Hz Freesync
Vivaldi legit nice.

Yeah I'd expect them to push Stadia for those... unless it's already on the chopping block 😄
They're good enough for SDV

Just realised since having a Wooting Two my wireless Xbox 360 controller no longer works in any games. Solutions?
Great. thanks a lot, now my keyboard is a dead brick. Tried enabling Xinput again buy now my keyboard doesn't work at all. Have tried unplugging and replugging, uninstalling/reinstalling, removing Wootility, reinstalling Wootility, rebooting... nothing. Had to dig an old keyboard out just so I could type this. Now I've had to request an RMA from Wooting to have it repaired!! 🤬
Sometimes a quick restore can fix your Wooting, so here is how to restore: https://wooting.helpscoutdocs.com/article/16-restore-the-wooting
Your Wooting keyboard stopped working and it's a paperweight. Don't worry, you didn't break it and it's very easy to restore. Just follow these steps: Step 0: S
yeah you're not gonna brick the wooting with just that, it's just that sadly drivers and such can cause issues sometimes that need resets. also since wootility is only used to configure the keyboard, it's unlikely you need to reinstall it to fix stuff
Not working. Did the restore bit, held down Mode and Numpad Enter, clicked on Restore ISO, not all of the green bar fills. Lights come back on but keys still not typing anything. If I click Test connection it says "Whoops there is still a connection issue". I have another keyboard plugging while doing all this so I can still type here.
Have plugged into USB 2.0 next to it on back of PC, now lights are on the default pattern but still not typing anything.
they're both USB 2.0. I have no free USB 3.0 ports.
but did you try restoring it on the other port? also I assume you did check, but just in case, it's not on an analog profile with digital keys disabled?
also, try #archived_helpdesk_for_keyboards , the people active there are more familiar with issues
tried restoring on two differnt USB 2.0 ports about 8 times
It says firmware 1.26.1, serial A01B1929W021H00371 and Wootility version 3.3.3
Is this guide still ok to follow for a Wooting Two?
Phew! that's a relief!! Working again now. Man that was scary. Guess I won't be trying to get my 360 controller working again - not if I have to go through this rigmarole again. Thanks for your helps!
but in any case you won't break your wooting that easily, I think it's mostly just windows drivers not being as easy to work with that cause potential issues
Well the controller still doesn't work. Would plugging an Xbox One controller in wired work? One came with my Oculus Rift but I've never been able to use it since the dongle doesn't work in Windows 7. Mind you neither does Rift any more.
I don't use a controller very often, only for RetroArch.
all I can say is that I have no issues when using my ps4 controller and setting xinput to disabled, didn't have any issues so far with that, but im on win10 not 7
Probably that then. My W2 is slot 1
Yeah about that, last time I disabled Xinput everything went to shit.
Well I do need to get Windows 10 already so I guess it'll have to wait for another day. Lucky me, Microsoft extended support until September, at least they have in the NHS so I guess that works for me at home too.
And since I know I can't completely brick it, I guess I could try Xinput again. Another day though! Thanks everyone.
np and good luck
Well now, ain't that something? Before shutting down for the night I thought I'd try the Xbox One controller again, knowing full well the wireless dongle doesn't work in Windows 7. It installed this time and it also works! And so does the Wooting Two! YIPEE!!

rip unitymedia
?
Oh found it, damn
Let’s hope nothing does change indeed for me, I like what I got
probably not for now
new gigabit connection from vodafone is 40 euros
so twice as expensive as unitymedia apparently
Only have 120 anyway, don’t really need more
so i just bought a 2070, never owned an nvidia card. Are there any hijinks with their drivers? I thought i remember reading that they bundle stuff with them and you have to work around it a bit
Am i remembering wrong?
you can dowload drivers separatly
but nvidia tries to force experience onto you
which tries to fuck with your settings
so is going through their website and getting the game ready drivers fine?
the only part of experience that i think i'd be missing out on is ansel
hmmm
screenshot tool
can take 360 screenshots which you can pan around in
although, i think you have to upload them to do that? Not sure
dunno
guess i'll find out
Anyway, if im reading the price chart right here, i just got the card at an all time low
for amazon anyway
which is quite nice
that is from warehouse stock, but my whole PC was build from there so i don't have an issue with that
actually yes i was reading it wrong, 2nd lowest price ever. I can live with that
@zenith mirage TPU got a 'clean installer' for Nvidia drivers that can also enable MSI mode
what is MSI mode?
sorry if i'm being dense here
okay looking at the site, i think i get it. Cheers :))
Eh, tbh I forgot half of it, but it's good
@fickle ore knows more, lol
@zenith mirage Also, VERY IMPORTANT: if you switch brands, use DDU in safe mode to uninstall the old drivers first
aye, was just reading up on that
i feel like this is much harder in my mind than it will be in reality
It really isn't difficult
Like 4 clicks
You can get a lot of issues with old files that were installed by first or third party software
Like black screen issues you hear so so much about atm
Blame Windows
Geforce experience is a must have for me now with nvidia freestyle
The sharpening and the details enhancements are great
Everything looks fuzzy without sharpening now
1 click gamma adjustments in game are pretty nice as well
I'll pass on the obnoxious malware. 😂
Accidently got the corner of my monitor screen when plugging in my phone charger
The screen goes blank
Noise starts coming from the monitor
Panicks ://
Unplugs the monitor
Plugs back in same issues
Then leave it a while
Come back plug in again.
No noise this time
Then the screen comes back on too
i used to have a monitor that wouldnt turn on if my room was too cold
i live in the attic so it can be about 12c up here in the winter unless i run a heater and i dont run it at night
Meh - Unscrew the backplate and cooler from a regular RTX card and just paint it or have it vinyled.
ok there we go https://twitter.com/NVIDIAGeForce/status/1229450438992285696

a bit concerning that they can't math tho
How so?
they "made" 77 cards and give away pairs?
they didn't say they are giving away all 77 that way
Person A tags Person B who tags Person 3
Do all three get one each, or person B get two?
and there is no person 3 idk where you got that from
?
a tags b and thats it
The worst thing is... it's a reference card.
C'mon now
B can still tag a third person
okay but that would then mean b retweeted it and independently tagged person C, so B and C would get it, not A
yea its more of a collectors item I'd say
get it, watercool it, put it on a 2060 or wherever the shroud fits, ez
calling FE a reference card akin to blower style cards is a stretch, they have power delivery and cooling system as good as any other OEM card
uhhh it's from nvidia using the reference design? also FE/ref has been swapped so many times now and used by both vendors, it's the same thing
It's actually not bad. Bit heavy but I much prefer this dark core to the scimitar.
12 buttons on the side
idk why you'd need so many buttons on a mouse
dark core is probably one of the better corsair shapes
doesn't say much since most are basically the worst shapes you could imagine
and bad ODM internals
Twas free
well can't complain then
maglev trains got another chance in germany
only for for airport travel, so no 500km/h+ bullet trains but at least we have a chance to get them back
Tried to upgrade ram at work pc, didn’t like 4 ram sticks
So we thought maybe bios update helps bc it’s on the release bios still
Then we see the msi m flash didn’t find the bios file
Took us a while to find out it’s an OEM Board with custom bios so we now send support an email bc the website obviously doesn’t have a bios download part
Granted the normal bios should work just fine, but we’d rather play it safe on the work pc
ye
I love it when they do that
we once had an "industrial" z170 board
which claimed kaby lake support
but the bios that they claimed that added it didn't do it
uhhhm
I think my brother has
but you can usually set them up to act as two monitors
what OS do you use?
on anything mage writes
