it can be a fine starting point
It's a weird thing. I don't have much brand loaylty in any other case, but motherboard and gpu vendors I have
nobody is talking about that though
Like, Never will buy Gigabyte for their shitty BIOS etc
and that never changes π
they always had shitty bios
i think they're improving recently
maybe, from the issues on the reddit I dont think so
why are there no decent looking affordable PC cases
yes there are O.o
well
the only acceptable one to me appears to be Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C
mm QT01 is nice, comes also in Silver, nice
Maybe x570 motherboards have rear USB-c?
Why you need it on the Computer Case?
I'm going for a B450 motherboard
Ahh well thats the issue, Maybe wait for B550?
Damn
X570 very expensive for the feature set + high power consumption + fan
my current pc is 9 years old :p
You beat my I7 2600k
Yea our Sandybridges would ahve been good for another couple years if not for the vulnerability issues
it's served me very well, running 4.3ghz all that time
Overwatch Performance from 300 fps to 150 fps due to vuln patches and overall performance regressions from patches
but 4 threads is just not enough
Aye
also it's just too slow for my photo editing and other stuff
I was running 4.8 ghz for years only 1 year ago dropped to 4.5 ghz due to instability π guess it's wore down
5.0 ghz was possible, I won the silicon lottery last time
i've actually got two nearly identical setups, MSI p67-gd65 / 2500k
Nice
how?
botched bios update
:I
my own mistake though
never trust bios flashers from windows
i tried manually flashing it with a raspberry pi
on the jspi pins
but i couldn't make it work
MSI netherlands fixed it for me for free though! 5 years out of warranty
it really was, they said put 20 euros in the box but they just returned the note
haha ^^
no shipping charge either
I'm considering the B450 carbon pro
the only thing is that they're releasing the 'MAX' versions of those b450s soon
with the proper bios, because they had to slim it down to fit the 16MB eeprom
though I may even prefer the non-graphical bios
I couldn't handle only 4 SATA ports
but maybe i should just build a nas/server
I'm hesitant with the older boards
There is no guarantee the BIOS will ever be non bug fre
well... they're releasing these 'MAX' versions which officially support the new generation
what processor are you getting btw?
OC a 3600 and get the same? π
you know that won't work
so you turning off SMT or leaving it?
Turning off with a 8 core most likely
It seems that single core results are a little skewed for zen 2
I thought the 3600 did better in games?
Using just 2 cores massively reduces frequency compared to single core
the 3800x is best in games out of the whole lineup
iirc
I could be wrong
best bins
Worst availability
Still even if a 3800x bins well it doesn't seem up to par
Using the others as a comparison
I'm still hoping bios and driver updates will make it significantly faster
I thought GN benched one but it seems they skipped it or didnt have one
almost seems worthwhile to save the 70 bucks and go 3700x
turning off SMT probably helps benchmark scores due to current scheduler issues before they are fixed, tuning ram to 63ns etc
idk if 3700x clocks as high as 3800x
and FCLK doesnt clock as much
Anyway are there any good prime day deals on amazon
Haha Back in your days Tino overclocking was even more extreme π
I saw the Dell 34 inch ultrawide was 720 dollars, that's a good deal but I already have one
I couldn't imagine buying an ultra wide or spending 700 bucks on it
I'm probably going 3700x, was going 3900x but might do that on 4xxx series
I could spend 700 bucks on something she wanted easily
but that works out well in my favor
PPL have different needs and wants
personally I would spend 700 easily if I deemed worth it but not gonna spend 700 on 20 year old tech (TN panels)
Will spend 700 easily on ultrawide if they make Oleds
I really like the ultrawide. I think most of them are IPS
Acer and Dell and lg have IPS 120 hz
I think all the panels come from the same LG factory
yeah they are just milking old tech. Monopoly. Fuck them
Milking TN an IPS panels with no innovation. Voting with wallet until we see new tech they can produce but don't want to
there's nothing special about 120hz IPS
its just IPS
Resolution and curved panel
Are there any relatively cheap oled monitors?
Not currently
How much would the cheapest be?
3440x1440 pushes the limits of most hardware
Conan, the limitation is the not the panel for high refresh , but the bandwith of the cable and the chip
the cheapest oled monito is probably 5k
i mean, you can get a 55" 4k oled TV for 999 euros
you could also source a 15.6" 4k laptop panel
tv's don't really work as a monitor if they don't have a low latency mode
What is this a 4k panel for ants?1?
Rather have 3440x1440 at 4 ms 120hz
OLED tho
21ms is like more than my whole setups total latency π
Yeah oled is cool for sure but might be waiting a while til its affordable
JOLED is starting printed oled production this/next year
should bring more products to market
compared to 0
They might be 3k instead of 5k lol
I figure it'll be 750-2k initially
Does oled have any issues with decay
Ghosting sucks in games
yeah i returned a 144hz VA because of the ghosting
VA isnt OLED
it happens on lower brightness with OLED
Not convinced, OLED has 0.1ms pixel transition times
4k is nice for media
the pixel characteristics are dependent on the current
at low currents they suffer from some delay
if you have an OLED phone you can try it
bleed isn't the biggest concern with IPS, the glow is
TN and VA usually suffer from bleed
IPS has glow when viewed off-angle
which is a problem at >~27", especially ultrawide
depends on your purposes
Still better than viewing TN off angle
consuming and producing media, OLED and IPS
VA is nice for movies/stills too
rich colours
but professional displays are often IPS
ULED is not self emissive so It'll never be as good for gaming
and I don't really believe the ghosting can happen on OLED unless you have a source
perhaps some phone power saving feature
u read the comments the shop says its software issue..
Do you think microled would kill oled before it ever gets mainstream
I've had it on many iterations of the samsung galaxy phones too
No, Microled is using leds, backlight. Never will the image be as sharp as self emissive tech
I watched that vid before u linked it, just read comments it says software issue
OLED is great apart from the burnin
top-emissive oled will start to be produced next year. Should be better for longevity and 10% brighter atleast
oled brightness is mostly an issue for TVs
really, only
in fact they can be brighter than LCDs on smaller sizes
Why is that?
Do you mean bigger pixels or smaller pixels are harder/easier to drive and what exactly reduces the brightness?
the high pixel density on phones + battery constraints means the backlight cannot go through the image layer as effectively
There is no backlight in OLED
there's 'light overhead' around the pixels
I'm talking about LCD
oled doesn't have this problem so it can be brighter at higher densities
but there's a limit to the OLED pixel brightness, but on LCD TVs the backlight is more effective
so you see a lower relative brightness on large sizes
Oh, you mean OLED brightness stays unaffected, but LCD brightness varies due to pixel pitch
I get it
Yeah it makes sense
but what do you mean when you say oled brightness is an issue for tvs?
because they're often used in bright conditions
and because people see the LCD tvs shining twice as bright in the showroom and think it's better / don't notice the contrast issues
probably doesn't help that most OLED demo reels are focused on ultra contrasty scenes i.e. mostly dark
also driving OLEDs at peak brightness probably wears them out faster
But the blacks are darker
what do you mean?
should have more contrast even if its not as bright
yeah but you don't notice it on the shop floor because it's a very bright environment, plus the LCD tv demos often don't show much black so the total light output will exceed the OLED demos by a large amount
yeah it would be interesting to see if retail stores change to dark rooms for displays
tbf, all lot of them here put the TVs on display in dimmer lit areas than the rest of the store
they just turn the lights off, not anything else fancier than that
to be fairuh
the first bit for reference
People will bitch about anything when it comes to PC tech
ddr4 3600 sticks and they complain that it's 16-18-18
You can't have it all
wtf did I just watch?
"As soon as it detects itself falling, it retracts the pizza back into the phone at normal speed"
It is from this video
Lets Durability test the Oppo Reno!: Install Raid for Free IOS: https://clik.cc/9t2te ANDROID: https://clik.cc/q99Gq Start with 50K silver and get a Free Epi...
Time to do Java -.-
If you get ghosting with any decent modern display, you're using the wrong overdrive setting for your refresh rate
@feral jolt SotTR is like one of the worst benchmarks to compare AMD and intel
It's extremely biased
very good deal
theres also a 1tb samsung ssd on for 117euro
there was a set of 16gb (2x8) 3200 ballistix elite ddr4 for 104 too. People were pretty excited about that
this ram is supposedly binned really well
I thought about that one but I don't have much use for it
Wasn't there a cheaper non-4k?
nvm it's oos it looks like
our 4k tv is smart and I don't need any extra stuff so I was looking for a non-4k
The TV we have in this house has HDMI ports but the satelite box we have only outputs in SCART -.-
and its a 32 inch 1367x768 so it looks horrible
but the colors and things are amazing
Ye but it doesn't run Kodi i bet @timid chasm
Thats what my Gen one is for
kodi only
i use netflix on the tv itself and on my chromecast
not really what I'm looking for
Yall smart here, how would i go about backing up my laptop to my desktop?
wtf
FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF
You could connect your laptop to your desktop via ethernet
but you cant use internet
The files arent too big though, so is it maybe possible to do it wirelesly?
then again i dont think 12 year olds should be doing that
nah cant, its an ultrabook
ayyyyy!!
240 for 43 doesnt seem like the best deal?
What os+desktop you going to try?
nvm didnt see the discount
absolute bargain
I wish !
:PP Maybe if I have time someday I will try a proper install of Arch
cause rn I am on Manjaro
I am worried about not knowing how to connect it to WIFI
i think ill give Manjaro another try....
oo I see...thats good
this time without all the bs grub issues
You dont need GRUB if its the only OS on the SSD
do you have a link for that ssd?
As said, issues with grub, this is why im getting a different SSD to avoid that
@ashen spindle if you do a trial for audible you get 10 quid free
or whatver your country is
oh so the saving isnt just from prime day?
correct but even the prime day offer is solid af
yea but not enough to be better than the 1tb I want to get
was going to get 4 for that price lol
yea I'm looking at a 1tb from samsung for 117euro
i wanted that one
but just dont have the money rn
which i know sounds retarded considering
but 28 quid vs 100
i pretty much spent all my money now xD
that i can
yeye no I get it
I need to ask the user how many savings accounts they want to make and then store all of them in array of the size they told -.-
AGH arrays confuse me too much for this
hmm i wonder
if i use my USB 3 dock that has ethernet with the firestick
will ethernet work over it
like this but its powered
The Pixel 3A + 3AXL arent getting the Android Q Beta? ;-;
I assume they will get Android Q though since they are Pixel phones.
Buy RAM now or in two months?
prices should start rising again at the end of the year
I need 4x 16GiB stick, 3600+, low latency π€
how low do you get with 3600? 15 and 16 is the lowest I've seen or head of
and does it need to be a kit or standalone sticks?
3600c16 would be fine i think
somebody on reddit was bitching about it
I'm going for similar, 32gb now and adding 32 if prices drop (or rise)
not sure I've seen lower tbh
I want 2x 32 GiB for two rigs
so you need two sets of 2x32
64 I don't need in one PC
got it
Well, it doesn't really matter if its 4x single stick, 2x 2 sticks, or 1x 4 sticks
I think ryzen 3xxx IMC is improved so much that you don't need to be too picky
micron and hynix dies can work
I got a 3600 @ 16 kit from g skill, I think it has Samsung B dies
It at least does cl 15 fine
I haven't tested it much
2nd time installing teamviewer and it not working
man teamviewer flagged my account as commercial use
after blocking me
assholes
what do you use instead?
o
yes and no
i see
they flagged me also, because remote in pretty much all the time to my desktop.
if you're on a controlled network it's annoying
-.-
oh that ballistix elite only has used left for that size
I need to do some overclocking research for my 3700x, so I'll look into the ram more too
Pls do and give us some info on it
For remote access use either the new chrome remote desktop or VNC
Looks like something from the 1980's
good ole Netscape
yo
you can use whatever client you want
it's all RFB protocol
rename your damn pc's
its not updated on vnc xD
Teamviewer doesnt let me enter an id to connect and says my connections isnt ready
.MrPlaptop
teamviewer has saved me plenty of times though
Is Samsung B-die still the best option for low latency RAM?
its useless for me now anyway
using the portable edition to mirror your own screen can be real nice for presentations
exactly what it sounds like
chrome remote desktop is awesome
its giving me a .deb file......AGHH this is useless to me
one sec
imma check AUR
yay for yay!
lel the website wont be able to help me here
chrome tho
its very bare bones, high latency and laggy at times.
hate that shit
and chrome
it cant run the installed deb package, no shit !
Just do old classic X11 forwarding because it's the best thing /s
hah
Dunno I tried doing old school X11 magic recently it was almost usable
Unfortunately the thing I was doing required alt gr usage and for some reason that also sent a left arrow key press π€
@pale sigil how are you making that ssd so cheap? mine shows as Β£23
Koss Porta Pro or Koss ksc75
They look shit but they sound good
Written coding exams are stupid -.-
what work environment will you ever have to manually write code by hand on paper
without accessing internet for help -.-
Is it low level programming class?
Java
It's not about the environment it's about knowing the basics
higher level classes will typically let you use help
Even trying to code this application in IntelliJ , I had issues getting it to work the way he wanted
I also asked someone else who spent years coding java and he said they mau have been some issue with the question on the exam
They guy who is giving me lessons is really great at Java
sounds like a stellar professor
ikr....
and actual programming classes we were expected to know it and there were never any surprises
Some of the higher level classes for sure let us use outside help because it's unreasonable to expect results otherwise
one of the questions in the exam was to do some stuff using the instantOf() method
and it wasnt possible to do with the arrangement you would end up by following his UML diagram correctly
that method would not work
sounds like a blast
I miss the professors at my first college. They were actually helpful but with this online only crap this one professor sucks and has bullshit lecture material and every other professor uses his notes for their own classes
drives me nuts. Just teach it's what we pay way too much for
I just found one of the first things we did in first year
ah, I wish this year was as simple as this
you said you were in the end of the program or just the java material?
I have done the end of 2nd year java
each year there is more stuff to teach us
we did classes and loops and sorting alogorithms this year
4 year in total?
yah
thats my goal anyway :// it may come to an end if I cant make it into 3rd year in august
Yeah, the whole year is dedicated to making a large ass project for every subject you did in third year
so java project, c# project, web dev project using javascript and php (assuming we wont learn more), a netowkring project , software testing project -.-
we learned binary in first year
how to make logic gates and to work out what the output of them will be
I had an assembly class but don't remember shit on it
It was CS 334 and a fast track of 170 and 270 combined.
Pretty sure everybody was failing cause we had a bonus quiz at the end worth like 80 pts lol
Actually, we learned some BASH this year
I may be a fulltime linux user, but i still did shit in that class -.-
://
All my linux was an early year at a technical school. Awesome professor
I know I hate the join command though
or did
Does Fedora offer a MATE Desktop as an ISO option?
because in the college they had Fedora, with the Mate desktop and the cinnamon icon pack and themes applied
it was really odd
cause I know Fedora workstation uses gnome
imma lokk
look*
Why do 16 GiB sticks have so much worse timings than 8 GiB sticks?
not as bad as 32gb sticks at least
Lmao
8 gb is the size of the mem chip
so a 16gb is 2 chips on a dimm
i think 32 is double sided with 2 on each side
I mean
Even a 4 gb dim has several chips on both sides
So I'm not sure how dram packaging works
I would assume you need at least two chips for "dual data rate" to be possible
Buy M378A4G43MB1-CTD Samsung M378A4G43MB1-CTD 32GB DDR4 2666Mhz Non ECC Memory RAM DIMM from MemoryCow. FAST and FREE Delivery. FREE Returns.
those are some 32gb sticks
So those ones are 8 chips on both sides
RIS/CAS is the best thing to happen to PC gaming since Freesync and Anti-lag
So, I'd be better off with 4x 8GiB or 2x 16GiB?
depends how far you want to push it, what board, what kits
4x8 B-die's is probably the more affordable option
smsung b die is EOL for a few weeks now iirc
RIP Unity desktop :'(
They switched to gnome 3 -.-
This making Ubuntu "just another gnome distro" in my mind
Thus*
Gnome desktop also ruined the magical and unique feeling of using zorinOS 11 too
On 12 they swapped to gnome
So rip all those compiz effects
I know
But it was unique
Now it just uses gnome
Although they way they use gnome is fairly unique
Idek what desktop it was
Or window manager it used
Shoujd try to find out
After living in Linux exclusively for a decade, I have come to the conclusion that there are some things that Windows simply does BETTER than Linux. An objec...
Would you like to purchase a felony quantity of keyboards?
I swear officer they are for personal use!
It thinks everytime I use Java 12, that I am playing Minecraft π€
π
Sure? They mentioned drugs, so they know what that is π
At least superficially.
That's what they call them though. A kilo.
Because they tend to hold a kilo of cocaine.
See the reference?
I imagine they're from a pounds country π
/r/mech is predominantly Us based
Keylo!!
yeh π
"sound exotic enough"
:PP
i love this post π
TYPE+super.toString()??????
wtf is this syntax and what does it mean
agghhh
TYPE is a final string variable btw
wait nvm
I am dumb -.-
the + is the concatanation -.-
im so used to seeing it with a space before and after
Is it possible to control MPV using keyboard shortcuts globally? so I dont have to have it focused to use the keybindings?
Java just sucks
I only had 1 error previously -.-
savingsAccount is the array name right? or SavingsAccount? :/
I ran it, gave the info and this happens
there is 300 of these errors -.-
yes
i have the same as the notes
but the notes make a bankAccount array instead of savingAccount array
so somethings I had to change
Lol
No 2080 Ti Super, and the 2080 Super gets a 4% more shaders buff
hrm? did someone leak the 80 super review?
also ofc there is no ti super, that one already had the full chip aside from what the titan has
OMFH YES
@wheat plume I don't know if you still strugle with the code or not...
SavingsAccount are the class that it seems is not referend in your current class BankingApplication. You need to add a import line for it so the compiler know which class he should use there. You get one error for each time you have used this class in the current class. You also need to specify the class path for the class Person.
savingsAccount is a variable array of the type SavingsAccount that holds the amount of entities that the user specify in the form. I don't know why you mention bankAccount because I can't see it in our code.
It seems that you have maybe a error with the Person class too.
@digital cliff Who you are mean?
I should really stop using the same pin for my phone which my mum and sister know off by heart
I left my phone at home when going swimming and I swear to god I left it turned on but it was off when I got home.
@digital cliff id be lying if I said I didn't feel weird leaving the house without my phone
It was nice not being glued to it, sure I would have put it in the lockers but it would have still been on my mind when in my pocket before and after
I shall look at the Person class then @golden girder
You should always start with the first error that is shown.
I don't know how the code looks right now.
Because on the first picture it prints out an error, so it's a error on compile time. On the second you got a exception, so it happened in run time. So the compiler errors must be fixed.
There currently are no compile errors
It's all runtime
there is one big error, it's called Java
So you can debug it and look at the values and check if everything is correct.
i have phantom upgrades
wait...pamac shows the upgrade but yay doesnt π€
wtf is going on here
Made my desktop look like Mac for no reason
bad π‘
send me dat pic in dm
o
ill remove
@wheat plume its easy to remote without crop
hm?
Xdd
100% plausible
;))
Has the Keystone analogue (UK spelling trust me π ) keyboard been discussed on any Wooting discord channel yet?
Early bird copies are all gone so highlighting them doesn't feel like free advertising at this time.
Welp
Wooting backed it
^that's how I know about the project; I follow Wooting on kickstarter and received an email about their activity
Somebody mentioned it the other day but I got the email too
pretty sure the team is pro-competition because the more we see analog (US) keyboards the better chances we have to get it implemented natively in stuff
It's obviously good R&D to see competitors but also respectable to back it officially using their main account, and I know what wooting aren't shy of shouting out for other creators and claim to actually want analogue to be adopted more widely
They seem to be putting the word "AI" in their Kickstarter without much reason to
modifies activation point based on your hands? No thanks
What does that even mean?
I can tell you
It turns off switches if your hands aren't over them?
Almost sounds like dynamic changing of activation point but not sure. I just like to set it to whatever I want and leave it
I assume that'll be an option though
Interesting
I heard about some papers and PhDs regarding profiling people's typing styles for Identification and error checking. Both of those ideas are deeply studied. Obviously digital keyboard designers like swiftkey, apple, google have a lot of physical and machine learning assisted researching regarding keyboard layout, design, processing, usability
serious question. Do we really need 100+ fps for LED animations
I get that you want things to check mark that others don't have but that's reaching, imo
So I was at a hackathon a few months ago and told some doctoral students about those studies and they looked up the ideas and made a piece of software that could ID people randomly smashing keys, they called is smashpass. So rgdsjdfhasdf and gfdrhfsdgh are both valid passwords for me
Ooo
Basically, AI assisting keyboard usage isn't that hard for expert developers and at least something can be achieved in a weekend
But anyone can walk up to a microphone and say "We can use AI to do anything! just fund us and we'll get right on it"
the adaptive AI gif just looks like DKS
Especially after having a little success with the aforementioned possibilities
I'm guessing that the 100+ FPS LED is just a gibberish way of saying there's no noticable pulsing in the LED lighting, and it updates quickly in response the keyboard effects
Someone from their team is in here watching for all the wooting criticisms I guarantee ; )
Not a bad looking keyboard and I hope it does well but I don't need another with a One and a Two
Xd
I think the AI stuff has decent potential if actually have some developers capable, and not just talkingpoints.
No very attractive if you want a finished product any time soon though.
These guys sure make a lot of dosh on their keyboard kickstarters. But they shoulda shown their face on camera, They have one human model pretending to use their keyboard in a previous campaign but the rest is stock footage and the voice actor is clearly just a publicity hire.
I dig the layout of the Kira mechanical keyboard. Not ISO though.
Small bottomleft shift is kinda important to me. An App/Menu key is desirable too if I'm doing work using it. But the small size with enter key on the right is real nice.
'100+ FPS' keyboard lighting is still bad
Should be PWM-free
And just apply a constant voltage
There you go, million FPS lighting

This is why keyboards will need to plug into 3 usb ports in the future -.-
my last one wanted to use 2 ports already but it still worked with only one of them since I had no need for the usb pass through ports on it
Eh, that crap
I don't want that either
If I want an USB hub, it should be powered
My display has a good one, actually
To bad I can't reach it...
Yes, on the back on the left side of the right display in my setup
Dunno why Eizo thought that's a good location
It'd be barely useable in a single monitor setup
at least it isnt as badly designed as that apple mouse with the chagring port at the bottom -.-
that is the biggest mess up apart from the way you used to charge the pencil on ipads
ipad on a stick π
Whoever designed that should be shot
Apple man himself did as I recall. It was to force you to go make a cup of coffee.
Gotta love it when philosophy takes precedence over practicality π
-.-
wow
while the ipad design was meant to make it not portable and to break your lightning port if you hit the pencil by accident
yay!! You got to pay them an extra 150 euro for a new pencil!!
and repair the port on your ipad too
Apple has made many interesting design choices over the years.
The iPad air had LCD and glass separate, making it pretty easy to replace the glass.
The iPad air 2 had both glues together. So you gotta swap both, if the glass breaks. It's basically cheaper to buy a refurbished one instead, and just donating the old one to the workshop.
Or when they removed the SSD data recovery port on their Macbooks in 2018. As if having data soldered and encryped by default wasn't bad enough for students and such π
encrypted can still be recoverable
Encryption is also fine - If you could actually pull the data out, but no header.
I remember last exam season, parents came in with a dead Macbook, which had their daughters final work on it - We ended up sending it to a specialist who unsoldered the drive and decrypted it using their encryption key for something like a thousand euros.
:OO
Sure - She should have made backups. But most people don't think about needing that, if they aren't warned or are techie.
Yeah
Lanaaaaaaaaaa
I see elderly people PCs full of priceless photos, with zero backup so often. They are usually pretty damn grateful when we manage to pull out even a fraction of those from a dying drive.
I like my drives to be removable (looks at lenovo x1e with 2 ssds)
Same - I'd never get a soldered laptop. Nigh impossible to service. Even as a technician.
I just wish laptops manufacturers would make it easier to access the interior. My Ideapad 320 had ugly marks around the case, because it's cheap plastic, and you gotta pop off like 30 small holding bits.
What happened to the easy to access panels you'd simply unscrew.
5 screws to get in, and they even stay in the hole
Hell - My wife's Acer laptop is the ultimate Eff You to technicians. To access the RAM DIMM slots, you have to complete take it apart. Motherboard out and everything.
Mansennnnnnnnnnnnnnn

I hate dealing with elders when it comes to tech
Especially my grandparents, they think I'm incapable af
True
buy quality hardware, which is servicable ;)
although even among thinkpads its becoming rarer
Yeah I think I read the other day that they made the recent ones even worse.
Lois is weird
x1e also only has an internal battery, but its easy to open and replace
He sucks apples dick so hard but also trashes them
he repairs them
I know
doesnt use it
I know
Not a fan of internal batteries. That usually means they are exclusive to a few models, making them more expensive to buy down the road.
Whereas external ones almost get cloned overnight, with much cheaper prices, since they are much vider used.
most are too long
Those are just videos. You should watch an entire stream π
Oh I do
I find them very informative, I've learned a lot, I wish I watched his videos before doing my keyboard π
aww crap, ryzen 3000 made memory more expensive
Really? It's like half price of what I spent π
But get RAM fast - Supposedly there's an incoming supply lack
well the one kit i have in my wishlist is a lot more pricy
I'm glad I moved early haha
I don't need more RAM. But I have two unfilled slots I really want to fill
there's dummy sticks for that
I still need to know WHAT ram to get to pair with an 3950X or an 3800X
4x8 GiB vs 2x 16 GiB
Which ones play nicely with Ryzen 3000?
does zen 2 do quad channel? i've read it does not
Does dual channel work with 4 sticks?
Yes, you can have multiple sets of dual channel
Whether you should go two sticks or four has more to do with if the mobo has t-topology or daisy chain topology for the ram
t-top supposedly works better with 4 sticks, daisy chain with two
Ryzen 3rd gen really likes 3600 mhz though
just looks at your boards manual/website what it supports and then look what you can get for cheaper
I can get 8 GiB sticks with CL15, 16 GiB only CL17/18
does that little difference even matter for your usecase? is your mobo t-top or daisy chain? etc.
I haven't picked a board yet
@wheat plume does my pic disgust you
I've seen worse
But here they at least add some of those air pockets to fill the space
I do wonder why they're not using book envelop style boxes though.
Seems cheaper overall.
cos it costs morr
they use the same carboard company
at a discount
Cardboard boxes are a really big deal in the U.S. Amazon alone shipped over 5 billion packages through Prime in 2017. But as Amazon moves to plastic mailers ...
Sure - But if you're ordering a million of one or the other, it isn't going to matter surely?
From that very video - I see several boxes much cheaper.
Actually, they use those book thingies a lot here for small stuff
they have been actually changing
tbf
as you pointed out
my other package came in a recycle bag
but they both came from different places

We do the same at our shop. I even reuse GPU and Mobo boxes, from prebuilts we sell.
Just flip the packaging to a neutral white, so it doesn't look like you're shipping a GPU (potential theft risk and all that) and put a bit of packaging fluff from when we receive stuff from suppliers.
meh i think im gonna stick to kbubtu
ouch
fixed
@pale sigil Manjaro kde
i dont wanna use pacman π¦
reeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Would you like to install idontcare? Y/N
I just don't wanna get used to an entire new command set >:
π₯
what more do you need than search and install? π
@wheat plume help
YES
finally bought my new amd build
i dont like kde
I don't think it's ugly
I love the breeze theme
I currently use Arc dark
And the LΓΌv icons
It's ugly
It isn't the worst default theme
Look at gnomes default theme :') that thing is ugly
And those icons shudders
Temple OS looks nicer
Wait, if that was the only OS on the system, why you need grub??
It won't boot π€·
are you on nvida drivers?
Linux still needs a boot loader
And I'm still duel booting
Just installing Linux first
I have this issue with manjaro plasma using nvidia driver, it hangs up on boot
so I have to spam esc to get to the login screen
nvidia driver
There's your problem :^)
It doesn't happen with any other desktop
Even other version of Manjaro don't do this

Interesting
@delicate osprey what are the specs you got?
jesus christ amd reddit
think "ok cant be too much bs in there" and the posts ends with a conspicary theory lmao
just speculating fanboys
i went for 3700x/2x16gb micron e-die/gigabyte x570 aorus pro/2060super (until 5700 aibs come)/960gb corsair mp510/fractal R6 case/scythe mugen5pcgh cooler
@solar hinge
sounds like a good build to have
should be a spectacular upgrade from my 4 thread i5-2500k
esp. for my photo editing and data science shit
oh yeah lol
building it tomorrow
Sup y'all boys
Does anyone have figures for input latency for the gmmk? can't find any test anywhere
pm me please if anyone knows, going afk probably
wrong chat - sorry. still, if anyone has any clue what I'm talking about.. π
been a while since i created a windows/linux dual boot (prefer VM:s and linux subsystem for windows for simpler things) - but last I did it I concluded it was easier to just install linux, then let windows be the boss of the bootrecord and edit it from windows with some utility. cant remember name but some sort of bcd/mbr editor /easybcd i think - used to be free though).. as win-dos gets VERY ANGRY if the opposite is done π

Wow, keeps your pc below ambient without even spinning the fans or pump? What is this sorcery?
ok this is pissing me off
Sooo much messing around with linux
Yarp
That's not QUITE the result they came up with, but yeah.
Water cooling has advantages and disadvantages...
You can't say they're equal
For a non-OC usecase, I'd say water holds almost no advantages, though
Slightly improves longevity of silicon, boost clocks and power draw
But not to any meaningful extent
The main advantage of water cooling is that you can move the heat somewhere that has a lot more space for radiation of that heat
But water cooling with the same cooling surface area will be less effective
Compared to air
It's why you don't see water cooling in laptops
There would be no point, there isn't any more space for larger rads anyway
Maybe in a custom loop where you can have an actual reservior. Probably not for an aio
For nok OC use cases, it's mostly a question of case space. Some cases can fit more water-cooling than air cooling.
Also reservoirs don't help cooling. They're mostly for show.
Basically all cases will have more soace for wc
A lot of water mass definitely would slow down the thermal rise
Assuming pump rate is sufficient to keep it mixed
Slow down, not help cooling. If anything you're just buying time. If the radiator can't get hmthdt hest out, it'll just keep rising.
Depending on the situation that's fine, but you're right
Sure. A PC could burst within the thermal volume just fine..but for consistent work or gaming it'll have issues eventually.
As for cooling area, basically any case has way more space for rads
Muh 5G
I noticed that when I use my USB wifi adapter it gets hot as fuck if I try to download something big
Usb wifi oh no
I actually drilled holes in my wall and hard wired because it was overheating and crashing
Yeah but sometimes my hardwire has issues during inclement weather
So I have the USB Justin case
I had USB only before and it ran fine when my computer was a shitter
It was sufficient in the days of spinny drives
The spinny drives that still can do anywhere from 50-140 MBps which is 10 times what most people have for internet speeds?
most people
Well is that speed accounting for when the drive is half full and starts going into blinky mode
Slow hard drives are not very slow comared to what internet is
Get a cat 6 ethernet cable its better insulated for weather
This video looks at AMD frequency and cold scale with full stock settings, using only Precision Boost 2 (NOT the same as PBO) and controlled temperatures. Su...
Ryzen likes to stay cool
"You get about a 4% reduction in power consumption for every 10Β°C Tcore"
I didn't think it mattered that much
I wonder if that all comes from the cores o the I/O chiplet, or equally from both
I heard it tops out at about 40-50W for threadripper
Also, you ideally want your Ryzen to stay below 55Β°C under load
That's top tier air cooling in a very good case
https://static.techspot.com/articles-info/1877/bench/Stock.png
Stock 3900X (including stock cooler) vs OCed 9900K
You can probably get those 6% by using a better cooler
I don't understand why no reviewer uses the same cooler on both
also does anyone know where i can get an IOS for windows 10
cos
ugh
i cant run windows media tool on Linux >:
i have a windows on my NAS but its old af
-3 months old
Download the iso?
there is no direct download
to an iso for windows 10
there hasn't been in a longggg time
nevermind
pretty sure GN are using the same cooler, the kraken for almost every test? @zenith sonnet
but yeah its crazy how many "good" or big sites just uses terrible comparison methods still
Ok good, now my NAS is downloading it for me while i go bed.
Need to maek a Windows part for games
thing is
its a lot cheaper to get a 9900k right now
so it seems logical to get that
good z370/90 boards are also way cheaper than good x570
thing is
the entry for zen 2
is chaotic rn
you should avoid them for a few months
3900X runs just fine on a good B450/X470
yeah but they are eol and you need a bios update, so need to manually do it usually etc.
and they arent that cheap either surprisingly
i have seen it run like 1% slower on a b350 as well they do not take a lot of power
well it depends if you take a the 3600 or 3900x lol
MSI just re-released a whole stack of B450 boards 'Ryzen 3000 ready'
They're not EOL
nah thats old inventory remarketed
and they have boot kits to flash bios and at stock the 3900x is 1% slower
And those will handle even a 3900X just fine
Not old inventory
They've got a different EEPROM chip on it
ya so they dont have to take out things like raid
urgh that is going to get confusing with prices and such
i dont think so the old boards will fade when they drop you wont be able to find one
wow even an A320 board is getting a max version??
ya the chips take like no power they can run the 8 core parts at stock without a problem
i watched hardware unboxed and i was amazed
these suckers are power efficient asf
Most important thing that every reviewer seems to fuck up on purpose is: keep the Ryzen cool
It starts to slow down noticably above 55Β°C
sure but what do you need to keep it that low under load? clc?
You lose like 200-300 MHz running it 70-80Β°C
money ;)
Those are the few % it's always missing in benchmarks
Good case and a good air cooler
Since power draw is really low
but its not really missing if its an unrealistic scenario?
You don't need to dissipate 250W like with an 9900K, the 3900X draws 120W tops
1000w 9900k
And that's all core load
the new ryzen parts are a huge step in the right direction they just need to figure out gaming and intel will be useless
