Yes
Especially since all random characters and random abilities is missing
Or however that was called
At least dota 2 has pudge war
And random hotkeys that are different in every language
now i just really wanna play wc3
Understandable
Wow
Tbh
I'm not that hyped about reforged
Don't really see the reason behind it
Since wc3 runs pretty great on current Windows and pcs
Even got an update in the last year for better compatability
I gain a little graphics
But lose all custom maps that i had previously
im just in for the wow mount and for better graphics
but they already said custom maps from wc3 would load
since it uses the same format iirc
read that somewhere
Ok
But is it compatible in netplay
I usually play it on lanparties
And not everybody is gonna get it
Especially since the old one works
Likely
Btw
can always play the original
You know the rollercoaster map?
Ye
those are fuckin crap tbh
i wonder if x hero siege still is running
the answer is no
You know the one piece vs bleach map?
ya
Half of the randomly assigned characters is op half is complete shit
most anime maps have this really unbalanced shit going on tho
lol forgot about those even existing
I played that once
And was extremely tired
It was so bad i couldn't stop laughing
i think the most played map on lan parties for me is cs1.6 td
For me it's likely icy towers
fuck u
takeshi's was fun
Although that one can end up with weird network errors
The wc3 map wasn't
no u
it was fine
the tv show is fun ya the wc3 map was garbo
"collect 5 wood without getting caught"
"collect 5 wood without getting hit by water thongies"
i dont quite remember where that was
"give 0 fucks without not giving a fuck"
"collect 5 wood without getting hit by sawblades"
Etc
There is a big door
You dom't know what to do
You lose
And then there was some weird game where you coule just get enough points to instantly get in the final round
And the final round was an dem nbeatable boss battle
well they stayed true to the show with it being pretty much unbeatable
Which consisted of you getting fucked by ranged untis while this giant golem was tanking you
It was unbeatable to the point that you can't win unless you cheat
And at least the show consisted of games other that "collect 5 wood without touching *"
what version were you playing?
Idk
But we legit had 4 or 5 versions of that minigame
is it when it was german only?
Idk, maybe
hubie's was also nice
You have the best map?
"sexy naked girl"
And when you click on it the picture is a naked guy
i only have christian maps sorry
With a big dick
The best one
Rip
buy those rtx now
๐
I'd bet that half of my custom maps were variations of footman frenzy tbh
And we almost never played those
Oof
The new metro will be exclusive to the epic store for one year
Guess what i wont get for a year
Idk
Bad for the comsumer
And in the end bad for the developer
the better question is, why should any large developer/publisher pay any percentage to another publisher of the same size
It's pretty expenive if they want to get advertised
it's metro
it doesn't need it
Best thing is
i only heard that the epic doesnt take as much cuts as steam
but thats prob only cause its small
It's owned by tencent
if it gets big they will get their moneys worth
Yet it doesn't include most games owned by tencent
They take less
But if the devs want ads of their games they take mmuch more
And the only feedback is direct
So no reviews
altho tbh with the new metro idk if id want it cause i feel like they go the whole zombie route
or well "mutants"
true
I'd rather want devs cut costs on publishing costs than increase costs for the consumer
True
and yet the publishing costs will go up once epic shit pics up marketshare
it wont always be like this
it cant be
But publishing is rather inexpensive
we have so many stores now
i dont think they will
well origin is a failure, uplay kinda is aswell
In the end everybody will stay on steam
^
i own over 500games on steam i wont switch
and certainly not install yet another store
Uplay has only one additional feature which could be solved with ingame accounts
How is it a failure? did EA's pc revenue disappear? how about ubisofts?
The worst part of uplay is the popup after you close a game
ea added origin access
what did steam do except delay hl3
not a failure as in monetary
Ea lost many battlefield 3 buys to origin
as in i know 0 people who like either of the one
Steam has working drm
And isn't garbage to the customer
i know a lot who dont give a damn and use origin/uplay/steam to launch their game
Because they don't care where you spend your money, but if you spend it
If you buy shit and return it they don't earn anything
don't buy shit
Well
Good luck if you can't see if a game is shit when there are no reviews in store
why must you be the first to play it?
easy fix
You can then proceed to point all flaws of the games directly to the dev
No
The epic store doesn't include reviews
google does
They made that a positive point for the store
i mean why would it only good games get into the epic store right?
That shows that the customer isn't the focus point of the store
So why should i, the customer, give a shit about their store
If there is a way better one
i really like steam reviws cause i can see actual normal gamers thoughts on games
plus steam already knows i like anime tiddies so it recommends anime tiddies
According to epic recommendations on game pages are bad though
And if they force you enough you'll like it too
Wtf
and 2 new classes
I'm still angry at some steamworks games permanently loosing all saved data
gaben is a poopoohead
only works well on source
isnt steamworks the thing that enables matchmaking etc
also cloud save data
but daddy
Like i did
not directly wooting related, but as a keyboard nerd I thought very cool https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZEoss4XIgc
Receive an additional $25 credit for Ting today when you use code LINUS2018 at https://linus2018.ting.com/ Get iFixit's Marlin Screwdriver set today for only...
maybe in the future you could do this with a bunch of wootings
there's the shooting api....
You could also just buy a ton of used (cheep) midi launchpads or something
they cost next to nothing used
and they were rgb before rgb was a thing, but importantly the setup is faster
in fact.. something with knobs and sliders would probably be more useful
that guy is a n00000b
get a jog with buttons
n00000b
Ugh xim apex cost way to much, was considering it to re play god of war x.x
Today I had to charge my G Pro mouse for the first time after getting it on 11. Jan
Seriously impressed, my G900 would barely last 2 or 3 days
Other than that I always miss a third side button (or a 3rd full button like the G600 had), it's a perfect mouse
And I didn't think there was much room to upgrade from the G502/G900/the first G Pro
ordered A Scythe BIg shuriken 2 rev. b and 120x15mm noctua fans
hope this will fix my node 202 issues
and like.. will fit
Fingers crossed.
I'm currently working on an In Win A1 for SFF purposes
Well SFF ish
I think my cheepo arctic LP 11 simply needs to be reseated really, but it is quite small
Going to order a 2070 via a relative
let him deal with RMAs if any
hopefully if it dies it dies within a month
Again with that one month thing ๐
but google says bad things happen
I'm just so unused to gpus not lasting literally forever
hasnt bought a gpu for anyone since 2014
designated computer guy
i mean i have bought many on behalf of the workplace for a client
but never personally
We had this one guy who wanted a 2k PC to play games during lunch
oh, well my business has nothing to do with computers, a 2080ti would be an odd expense on the check
He just fucking played WoW
My 290X has been slightly unstable for like 2 years now
Finally going to buy a Vega II as soon as I can get one
At any rate - You've got like a year or two (depending on where you are) to open an RMA ticket. No rush ๐
yeah, but integrated skylake graphics during that period is not very attractive and only remote desktop once i go ryzen is even less
I'm home 3 months per year
how have you not got a EGPU
extra weight in luggage
i carry the itx as the personal item
a few kilos too heavy.. but no one ever checks that
not enough power
oh you mean external gpu
ye
why bother with an ITX then
still waiting for 16 core zen2 in itx
I want to update to what ever is top of the line in consumer space every 4 years
a laptop cant get me there
Well yes but thats just stupid
cpus dont need to be upgraded everytime a new one comes out
i think 4 years is a good distance right now
Not really
for games
Ryzen wont change much over the years, it has its core count etc
well if there will be same ipc but 32 cores in 5 years ill take it
I'm going to upgrade from my 5820K as soon as Zen 2 is widely available
It's fine, but I'll definitely notice the difference when aiming for 144 FPS in games
@quasi warren sorry for ping! but going to mvoe it here
Anyway, progress has been made
Things may get a little more problematic if you need to hide the keyboard keys or mouse axes from the game
At the moment, we have no conditional blocking (ie only block while certain app is active)
xD my mouse froze
So bear in mind that if you enable blocking for Interception (See here: https://github.com/snoothy/ucr/wiki/Core_Interception#blocking-with-interception ) it will be blocked, period
Do you have another mouse?
so that's the simple workaround for now - a little annoying, I know
@zenith sonnet why?
my god i missed this mouse
Next version of UCR should allow you to choose block or not block for each binding, rather than blocking everyting. I will then also need to work out how to allow disabling of blocking on the fly, seeing as you will need to be able to switch app. I am thinking that I will make it so that ALT+Tab is unblockable, and make it so that it never blocks while UCR is the active app
Granted, I will be also getting Zen 2. But I'm still on 2600k
Oh, and FYI, if using a DeltaToAxis plugin, when the profile is active, minimize the profile window else you will get a CPU hit
I also recommend turning your mouse poll rate down if you can
my biggest fear with zen 2 is with the memory peak latency
OK, so it seems like ViGEm is maybe not installed properly
When profile is active, there should be an xbox pad visible in joy.cpl
ViGEm plugs / unplugs devices as acquired, not like vJoy
in ugh the preview thing
joy..cpl showing no movement? It needs to be the active window yeah?
Not seen that before
It should not be showing anything in the UCR UI if the device is not bound
The small down arrow in the bind box (Next to where "Device Unavailable" showed) lets you manually pick
Taiwan's ASMedia Technology is expected to land contract design orders for all mainstream PCIe chips from AMD even after the US chipmaker rolls out X570 motherboard chipsets that support PCIe 4.0 in mid-2019, although ASMedia will not complete tape-out for relevant solutions ...
meh I dont like ASMedia
when i do it via the drop down it just says device unavaible
to bind i have to click the actual box
WTF ?!? Very strange
OK, I will try and repro that when I get home tonight, thanks
I can't see the final menu you selected from, I take it that it had "X" and "Y" options?
ye
but ye for some reason its emulating inside the program but outside it isn't
unless im doing something wrong
yes
Preview does not really mean much - it does not mean it sent it OK, just that it tried to send it.
How is the output side set up?
SS of output option for the DeltaToAxis?
ayyyy
Preview still updates, even with no output set...
May need to deactivate and reactivate
@fickle ore Why what?
It's all working now?

i think its working
it's the one that's "hot" surely that means not the first batch
Not loading for me
Aim assist?
I mean, it's a thing in destiny, happens alot
What's the problem?
if people comine the wooting and mouse for aim assist gains, there is a reason a lot of games disabled 2 inputs now
Wooting used to = soft aimbot
Yeah, this is certainly a concern
Black Ops 3 for example
I am not into facilitating blatant cheats
No i know you're not personally :p
But I know my stuff can be used for that purpose
so you're saying using your wooting gives you noticeably more aim assist?
It used to yes.
because it thinks you're using a controller?
In many games, if using controller, you will get an aim assist
but not now?
So mouse driving controller gives you mouse-like aiming plus aim assist
[14:30] Xeanoa: I'm going to upgrade from my 5820K as soon as Zen 2 is widely available
[14:31] Xeanoa: It's fine, but I'll definitely notice the difference when aiming for 144 FPS in games
why? :p
Yeah but when you block with interception, game does not know
You said "used to" so does it not give you the same aim assist now?
This is what a lot of Fortnite players are doing
a lot different now
For ages, Fortnite would give you aim assist if you fired with trigger, regardless of whether you were using stick aiming
Now it will not give aim assist if you used mouse recently
But this will circumvent that
i would download blops 3 to test it again but 64gb :p
You can do this on console too
UCR supports outputting to Titan One
remebers me
Which plugs into console
pubg does not have aim assist
and pubg openly refuses to work with it since it "supports macros"
even though pretty much any "gaming" mouse does
Times are changing anyway
or it should disable it for the session if it detects a single keyboard/mouse input
With devices like the XIM and T1, consoles are no longer the level playing field they were
And MS at least is starting to accept that
but still
Kbm is coming to xbox
already is
So in my mind, this is not such a bad thing - it's forcing their hand
Console mouse-like controllers (trackpad, trackballs) totally feasible
they can make dedicated lobbies and it gives good options
Segregation is not the answer IMHO
well
People will still play with Kbm on the stick servers
it wouldn't be if keyboard and mice wouldn't give such a huge improvement over controllers
at least in shooters
It's an inherent limitation of stick aiming, and that will never change
Console sticks are an abomination anyway
That round range of motion makes them unsuitable for so much stuff
that's why I'm personally for sepereated lobbys and no crossplay in shooters
Which is why I LOLed so hard when they bought out the Elite controller
You can even cheat in stick games
It's possible to pull moves in rocket league for example if you use a flight stick that cannot be done with a controller
Funny enough if you disable xinput on the wooting while using the nosie xinput it completely locks you into the game and all boards don't respond
Very strange xD
A console controller cannot input any Y value if X is at 100%
Or rather Y is locked to middle
the 360 controller isn't made for no deadzones
Nothing to do with dz
Windows just goes ape too
It's a circle
i can finally do side tilts
If X is at max deflection, Y must be 0 - the case of the controller does not let you hit the corners
ye, i get what you mean
since the possible zone isn't square he just put's the other axis to neutral
The only real way around it is to amplify everything, but then the extremities become useless, making an already short throw even shorter
Throw in the fact that with controller sticks, your thumbs do not approach the stick at 0 deg (or even 90), they are extremely badly designed IMHO
A relic of the isometric era that never got updated
ye
they are made to "just work"
and since games work within these limitations it isn't a problem for the average user
well good that I don't play any games which have aim assist
or care about something like that
You need to edit an xml file
Read the instructions first though, don't lock yourself out!
i have a second mouse so i should be fine
Just as long as you do not block eg ALT on keyboard :P
As that would disable ALT+Tab and CTRL-ALT-DEL
this is fun https://youtu.be/Q-v4LsbFc5c
forgot this exists
Hold on tight, because with a stabilised camera shot and a pair of sunglasses, you're about to see a video that works in both 2D and 3D at the same time. The...
i wonder how that looks on a game at 144hz or something
btw regarding the aimassist issue
wouldn't a similar thing happen if I remapped my right mouse button to the corresponding xinput aim button?
Dependent on the game
But in general, if you remap all controls to virtual xbox, and block all kbm input, game will behave as if you are using xb controller
It will have no idea you are really using kbm
Hey does the wooting have a key ghosting issuse like i press more then one keey in game and some times it ignores the keypresses
I think it is NKRO?
are you using tacheyon mode?
have youi tried replacing the switch
no
Ghosting is not the same as rollover
Ghosting is where extra keys that were not pressed are output, rollover is where keys that were pressed are not output
NKRO is a keyboard with no rollover
Will register all keys held at once
@empty pasture try replacing the switch
Surely if that key works in isolation, it's not a faulty key
Maybe the game is expecting key repeat?
Only the last held key repeats
Would be pretty poor if it did tho
@fickle ore I don't fel like my 5820K is sufficient any more
Not to mention that I could never clock it above 4.1 GHz for 24/7 use
Just a 20% IPC uplift would be well worth the upgrade if you struggle to keep your FPS up
Anyone got a script for numberpad numbers
guess the price difference
you all guessed wrong
it's the exact same one but one has "gaming" in the name
the word "gaming" is more expensive than the word "windforce", but not by much
Gaming has a slightly bigger cooler, and it has a few more RTX cores. That's it.
I agree - Silly difference.
Whats it like having an external gpu
i would honestly make an ITX build with onboard graphics
and just use an external
maybe that's the catch
I'm gonna spend 100-200โฌ more and get that sweet Vega II

@pale sigil TB3 is up to 40Gbps, but i think the equivalent is basically running the card in an 8x slot instead of 16x
Navi is the successor to Polaris
yes, no HBM2 taint
but why a V7? do you specifically need the hbm or anything from it?
there arent even any benchmarks out yet
We'll, I can still back off if there are unexpected issues with the card
I mean you said you'd rather spend 200 bucks more for what? equal performance?
you can get one for 650euro
V7 is supposed to sell for 700, so that's not much of a difference
Considering it comes with 16 GiB of memory at 1 TB/s
700 euro? if 700 usd then it'll probably be 750 euro. and what do you need that much/fast memory for?
I don't need the memory specifically
I just need a card that'll output good FPS for a few years

And between the 2080 and the V7, it just looks like the better deal atm
how so?
I'd love for amd to be in a better spot, but as of now nvidia cards do better, and rtx/dlss is something that will help more than HBM I'd say
I'll take a closer look at the benchmarks once launch draws closer
Right now I couldn't say x is better
every eu retailer will ask extra money for the fact it has 16gb of ram
@zenith sonnet doom and gloom https://videocardz.com/79870/amd-radeon-vii-benchmarks-leak-ahead-of-launch
owo what's this?
tbh
I don't think there are any realistic ryzen 2 leaks
from what they showed at CES it's too early
don't doubt that in the slightest
the radeon VII benchmarks look pretty good though
I'm surprised they're going back to 4 processor types when they went to three for Zen+
but if the supposed 3800x doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I do plan on getting it. I'll take a baseclock of 3.9 & turbo of 4.7 for 16C/32T
kind of a middle ground
and since matisse apparently performs similar if not better to intel 9xxx they should all be pretty decent
I plan on selling my 2700x to a friend and buying at the very least the 3700x
but the 3600X will likely be the sweetspot for gaming
the extra cores threads will not make a difference
I'm not only gaming but yeah i get what you're putting down.
if that leak is true
for workloads I'd get why someone would get the ryzen 7 or even 9
is TDP for AMD similar to intel where it is non turbo?
honestly, no clue.
because if they go up by 0.8GHz and in addition even clock higher becasue of XFR
It's not something I've ever looked into as I've never liked AMD until Ryzen.
it'll likely have more like 130W
I've rarely looked at tdp in total tbh
at least for higher end desktop chips
Hopefully AMD can do what everyone's hoping because I'd like to see this happen.
I didn't look at it since i'm waiting for the 100% guaranteed stuff at launch
if AMD wasn't lying it should perform EXTREMELY well
the 9900k can pretty much be tossed aside for most workloads
well
basically they demoed a matisse prototype
with 8C 16T
against a 9900k
yeah i saw people talking about that.
performing pretty similar
but at like 10-20% less power
if they at least do 12C 24T it'll be extremely good
as long as it's under 500$
I hope it will be different than radeon VII pricing
they really didn't do themselves a favor with the HBM2
there's no hbm2 on matisse so of course it will be fine
I've not been looking into that at all as I've pretty much been a strict nvidia person
how much?
holy good fucking god.
apparently it outperforms a 2080
if it does it won't be tooooo bad
but still
at a higher power consumption
without beefy aftermarket coolers
at least the reference PCB will likely be god tier
like it was on vega previously
well that totally legit benchmark on videocradz said it's poo :c
was it
maybe I'm remembering incorrectly
or do you mean Radeon VII
for that I'll wait for buildzoid
here's one
yeeee
that's in final fantasy though
not a good game to demonstrate AMD versus Nvida
almost as bad as BFV
yeah but frontier edition is there too
still doesn't really mean shit
you'd need some other benchmarks
that are less biased
for sure
butt
to be fair, the release drivers usually matter more for amd than nvidia recently
AMD hasn't given any good ones
ye
although AMD usually isn't too bad with those
at least in comparison
no as in, they have good drivers but leaks usually dont have the release drivers which helps amd a lot more than nvidia
ahh
ye
this might be good news though
AMD usually pulls more performance with newer drivers
idk, maybe their coders are just bad
ehh, or they just keep the good driver version upgrades to themself, to protect from leaked info a bit more?
well how's that comparing to nvidia, dont know the rtx fire strike numbers out of my head @latent mural
neat
a 2080 is cheaer though
and uses a lot less power at stock
well, if the VII doesn't randomly die for a lot of customers that's an improvement
well, maybe it will bring the rtx msrp prices down a bit too
likely
it's suspected that Nvidia can slice all prices of 2070 and up by about 100$
well anyways gtg, hopefully i can finally sleep well
also, navi might be close? and either navi or nvidias next gpus might use multichip modules, which would be hype

navi is apparently planend for this year as a mid tier card
so 580 and down replacements
anyways
good night
2080 with the same 9900k seems to be around 6.4k at stock
https://www.3dmark.com/search?_ga=2.15723254.1922555186.1548807130-1081935741.1548807130#/?mode=advanced&url=/proxycon/ajax/search2/cpugpu/fs/R/2402/1208/500000?minScore=0&cpuName=Intel Core i9-9900K Processor&gpuName=NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080&gpuCount=0
so... it might be better?
"we win some we loose some" as Lisa Su said?
potential, yay
twist: firestrike was optimised to use high bandwidth cache
Welp guess I'm not getting metro exodus
same
because it's $10 below standard AAA price, right?
$10 isnt enough to buy my loyalty, fuck you epic
they're just cocky because of fortnite
but really this is about 4A selling out
and deep silver
but whatever
what? no
in other words, i'm not starting another account and giving my credit card to another platform for a $10 discount
like epic is straight fucked in the brain if they think i'm gonna suddenly start buying my games on their store because they're a little cheaper
sorry broys, you are 15 years late to the digital distribution game
so use paypal, ezpz
no thanks
lol
that's kinda up to the publisher not epic
sure they paid for it but all up to the publisher
um
did you read that article
epic basically subsidized the cost of the game in exchange for them having it exclusively
which they can do without publisher permission?
then its fuck them not epic
but they can be like "here's a shitload of money"
epic was doing business stuff that every other business likes to do
every business does shitty stuff
they pull the game off steam to boost their platform sales numbers
it's part of their game
and a year later steam gets it and everything is back to normal
If a person wants to play it enough and is a fan and doens't play it on Epic then I suppose they're not that big of a fan
I don't use their launcher for anything really but I support their store
nothing good comes from a monopoly
steam doesnt have a monopoly... it just happens to be the best at what it does
if epic was actually confident in their platform, they wouldnt pull it off steam
yep it is
everybody knows people prefer Steam
doesn't meant they dont believe in their platform
only people that will go there over Steam is somebody who got annoyed with Steam or Steam support
or if a person couldn't really afford the extra 10 bucks and it was more expensive on steam
see, its one thing if they put their OWN games on their own store
like ea origin, or blizzard
like that's fine, whatever, do your thing
but deliberately poaching a highly anticipated game that was already being sold on another store is just fucked up
it shows they care not about gaming
that's some shit bobby kotick would pull
it figures that they'd do this after printing money with fortnite
@sick creek @timid chasm there's nothing wrong with epic, but when you're pulling off storr exclusive bullshit on the same platform they can shove it up their ass
Oh please
one is cheaper for the dev
the other is more expensive
the more money the dev gets for the work the better
i spend exactly 30 seconds per 7 hours of gameplay inside the launcher
this isn't 2003 where the computer resources it gobbles up matter at all
This is just gaben love getting to your head
My phone now makes 960fps videos
i can now make input lag tests on screens, yay
nah man, it's purely predatory. exclusives are bullshit tactics no matter how you try to rationalize it. it's purely a cutthroat tactic.
a cut-throat tactic against the giant Steam? really. no.
100%. they did it to throw their weight around
metro exodus is highly anticipated, they knew it, and they obviously paid off deep silver/4A to pull this off. did they have to agree? no. but the offer was probably too good to refuse.
they did it for people to come to their platform because of a good personal publishing deal with epic
this will not affect steam in any meaningful way
but it will affect the dev's income and will affect unreal's store
They made more money for the company, how horrible.
You only need to download another piece of software, it's not really an exclusive at all
If something is exclusive to one store, chances are I won't buy it
well that's you
Did that mistake with Anno 2070 and UPlay the last time
Gaben doesn't deserve this
has nothing to do with him
you're conflating me being angry about them pulling it from steam with me defending steam/valve and their profits
well then explain why it makes you angry
because it's bullshit to let another storefront to basically do your market research for you (is the game going to sell well, y/n?) and then pull it before release and make it exclusive to your store
steam asks for more money. the end.
Steam also delivers significantly more services, particularly to the player
so either someone got greedy or epic just gave them a boatload of cash to say fuck you to valve and try to boost their platform numbers
not the first time epic has done this recently
they said fuck you to unity by basically making sure improbable was in violation with unity's TOS and then offering $25m in funding to devs to make the switch to unreal
They've crunched the numbers way more than anyone complaining on the internet. The single exclusivity deal with epic gives them a bigger profit than steam fans.
but yea, epic loves gamers
they are becoming the new activision
i'd argue that in comparison, yes valve/steam love gamers
but again
By comparison is tit for tat
What do you play then @digital cliff
Maybe were lucky and the EU steps in again, killing platform exclusive games sales
๐ค
yay GoG Shadow Warrior 2 for free was killer
Plenty of games on steam can be played without launching steam (are not using DRM)
Origin access is not DRM right? because you pay for a service monthly not for a game :p
that would be cool
Well, if nothing else, you can refund it if it doesn't work
just a ๐ซ DRM icon
Replace the steam icon then with that
lol this guy
There's more drm free steam games than I expected
Often times, it's just the multiplayer feature that needs steam
Makes it really easy to find and join friend's games
unless the game itself provides some kind of communication system
but that's usually MMO's
What irks me is games that don't offer local multiplayer any more at all
ok if you were complaining about that 10 years ago i'd be sympathetic but
i've never seen a lan without internet
in the last 5 years
i host a lan at my house every year, and honestly the internet makes things easier
no need to deal with firewalls
"i cant see your computer dude"
Shouldn't that just need a simple port forward though?
What sucks is having a 40ms+ ping in games when you're sitting in the same room
assuming the router or w/e isnt crap
Sometimes worse
not in my house lel
as long as i am not connecting to a server outside the US
i usually get sub 10ms
if its chicago or closer, i get 4 or 5ms
that's unheard of
I get 15ms to some game servers, but steam COOP over the Internet is usually around 40ms
in cs:go i've actually broken the ping counter. usually stuck at 5 tho
40ms isn't bad at all for online play. Kinda sucks for a local network though
yea anything under 50 is decent
above that and the netcode better be good lol
over 100 and well, just play something else
When I first started online gaming anything under 100 was doable but that's changed a fair bit in the past several years
netzero with the hack to get the hidden password
I can't believe some places still have to deal with dialup, that's absurd
there is next to no reason to not have it available to people all over the world even if it's some slow upload satellite somewhere
yeah, wireless mesh networks would theoretically solve the issue
high latency, but at least you have internet
and truthfully we should be able to do cable internet at least
and its not 5KB/s
we're definitely capable
eh rural areas are difficult to bring new cabling to... folks barely got power or they are running generators
which is also absurd, imo lol
africa, india, etc..
lots of south america
india is blanketed in LTE tho
they almost have 100% coverage
so if you have a cell phone you probably have internet
And if you live in a developed country like germany you are lucky to get 3G near your house
i'm going to india in march for work, so i'll let you know how their internet situation is lol
And 2 years ago we had the big change for home users were suddenly 60% of the population got "fast" internet
And jumped from 16k to 50k
16KB? isnt that like ISDN speeds
oh, 16Mbps
Ye
Still stra ge to me why they took years to accept that 1k kbit/s is 1Mbit/s
Tbh
It's really bad
And the 50Mbit/s are with vectoring
i have gigabit fiber personally, and would never go back if given the choice but still
O you basically have that as a maximum and share it with other people
party lines woohoo
They haven even started really with fibre here
The telekom was like "fibre for everyone is like private jets for everyone"
It shouldn't be used for homes
I once had lte as a home connection
It's terrible
Oh and the biggest data cap for that was 30GB a month
Refills cost 10โฌ
oof
Ye
i mean, fiber isnt nearly everywhere in the US either
i live near DC, of course we have it
I got lucky and currently have docsis 3.1
So i get 400Mbit/s
And tbh I currently don't really need more
meanwhile docsis 3.1 in the US means comcast will give you 125/10
Rip me btw I'll move this week and have 50Mbit/s after that
or whatever cable provider you have
Rip
but fuck cable companies
coax is horrible
The government had to decide if the biggest one here (telekom) can slow dpwn speeds of other providers if it hinders their service
And they said yes
I'll take coax over dsl though
The telekom is horrible
Coax isn't bad tbh
Especially if dsl or vectoring are the alternatives
i'd take coax over dsl too but that's basically just replacing a twig with a slightly thicker twig
my mom lives in a rural area and the only internet offered is dialup or Frontiers "high speed" internet which is ADSL
Basically never
We had some trouble in the past
But in the last year we only had a downtime once
Except when the router messed up
But that happend twice
since having fiber (for about 5 years now) i've had literally one outage
Problem here was that they put vectoring at the end of the coax line
before when i had cable it was a monthly or weekly occurance
So they basically make all new wiring for shitty dsl
but that's probably just comcast
oh, suddenly the signal coming to your residence is too strong.. lets install ANOTHER splitter
A friend of mine had internet from O2 (telefonica) but the cable was owned by the telekom
And the telekom just made the internet worse and worse
He usually got about 10% of what he paid for
fuck that, i own all my equipment other than the ONT (which doesnt have a rental fee)
i gave verizon back their router and their STB's
yea, my shitty little ubiquiti erlite-3 smokes their "quantum" gateway
But they weren't able to change the mac adress to our router
odd
And then half a year later they were like, hey you want this 250โฌ router for free which would normally cost you 10โฌ a month?
They are 250โฌ
to you
verizon offered to sell me the quantum gateway, they wanted like $300
very little known outside germany though
i laughed
Yeah invest in 5g it'll surely do better than the currently overcongested 4g network
pretty sure verizon's branded router is still actiontec
they just make the shell a different color and put their logo on
actiontec is cheap af though, their routing tables are still retardedly small
so if you have too many clients doing dns requests rapidly, the network crashes basically
i guess it was one way they could slow down/prevent torrenting lel
we then found out it was originally a cisco design, but so bad that cisco decided to sell it after 3 months
we got it before torrenting was really illegal here
they require a PHD to get running properly
ik
they quite literally do
"the cisco academy"
btw how's the telekom in the USA
i made the mistake of recommending a cisco router to the place i worked at once
do you work in IT?
Holy crisp 215 messages
but when i didnt, i was primarily a dev but i also managed the network and servers of the agency i worked at
i've been into everything tech wise since i was a kid
started out on a 286 ๐
and another dead kingston a400 ssd came in
rip
So @pale sigil did you get the mouse to joystick all working in the end? Did you find it usable?
@reef patrol cant
no way to since it only detects the controller but the fw of the controller is gone
RIP
well ya and the best part is u know what the kingston rep told me when i called the reseller hotline?
"its a 'home pc' part its allowed to break early" and then he told me we might not even get it refunded or replaced
did you ask to speak to his manager:
na i basically gave up on kingston for anything but ram
do you buy directly from kingston?
sadly yes
