like to stream or just for gameplay?
yeah, just move it
freeeee
oh mirroring, eh
afaik remote play and capture card are the only ways to do it
wireless cast would be expensive and would likely be shit in terms of latency
guess ill have to suck it up
or get ya a nice long hdmi cable
nah the issue is im sick of having to switch to hdmi on my monitor
i have more than one but i hate removing one of my monitors
i like my freedom
if you get me
removing your monitor?
it aint bad
but ye
i just hate the lack of freedom
i always keep alt tabbing because of muscle memory
lol
I use a 2x3 hdmi splitter for mine so I can use ps4 or switch just by swapping to hdmi on the monitor
that's the easiest way I've found
splitter/matrix whatever you want to call it
oh, wait, no.
ports are not an issue
i just hate having to switch from dp to hdmi
if you get me
that's soooo nitpicky haha
so why not use the non-main monitor?
Does Windows' default behavior show alt-tab on all screens?
You cant tell me that having freedom like this sacrified doesnt suck
vs switching to a different cable
yeah but in comparison remote play blows sooo hard. I do all of that one my left monitor anyway so it doesn't really affect me
and loosing your best screen xD
i know it does thats why i was asking about mirroring etc
haha
my main monitor is legit only for games and videos though
so sacrificing it isn't the same to me
i have my tv but it fucking sucks ass when it comes to upscaling the ps4
like it just does not look great at all
in 4K
0 upscaling done
plus i dont like playing on tvs in general
yeah I don't know of any way to do it cheaply or without a capture card
sucks to be me
even if you found a cheap way to do it via network it would likely still suck
ye, for the cost of a decent video card
id just get a ps4 pro lmao
if i sold my current ps4 too
yeah, esp if you wanted a 4k one
My issue with using my PS4 is that I'm too used to multitasking on my PC. I don't like sitting down on a couch and not being able to do like 5 other things beside play a game
^^^
Maybe I'm spoiled
I especially miss discord though. Rarely will I play a game without also talking to someone or another
Oh, and using my nice headphones. DAC/AMP won't work on the PS4 so I'm stuck using my old clouds
Main reason I got an extra ps4 power cable, just so I could move it seamlessly to the desk and sit on discord while playing and talk to others. Hooray for audio input on monitors!
No, I lied, it's audio output to my headsets dongle
either way hooray!
Oh that's my other issue, mixing audio
I want to but I have no idea, and when I asked on the PlayStation subreddit I got down voted because my question related to PC use
So uhh
That was fun
headset have a 3.5mm input anywhere? That's how I did it. 3.5mm out from monitor to my headsets wireless dongle, and used elgatos sound capture to combine everything into one
It uses some wierd jack that I've never seen before
Although it's 3.5mm in the end that goes into the amp if that means anything
shrug I don't mess with dacs or amps so I'm not familiar with their inputs and outputs
wait do you have a modded PS4?
yes
you lucky bastard
I've got a modded PS3. I want a modded PS4 but with the issues of them not being supported past 5.05 and lots of games requiring latest firmware to play...
any game after GoW ye
but did you see the recent update/
there is a hardware exploit coming out now
so no matter the version
it cant be stopped
yeah i saw, but that still means we need the updated firmware. I'm gonna wait to see if they managed to pull that out of their asses and if they do, i'll snag myself a PS4 (or even PS4 Pro if that's supported) and call it a good day.
which is not an issue
I'm personally not looking to play online. I've got PC for that.
as you would be able to jailbreak any version
right now it is literally possible
but there isn't much in regards to software like HEN etc
Its easy to get a ps4 on 5.05 tbh
So what advantage does such modding have over a regular console?
Piracy, custom firmware, ftp etc
Piracy, Emulation, Custom Homebrew stuff, etc.
^
Like playing any format of video/audio on your PS4 to make a great device for streaming/enterainment.
What are you guys think about amd's 64 core CPU?
server cpu so nobody here will probably ever touch it
I'd buy it if i had the money to blow on it.
to do what with it?
I'm sure i'd find something out.
What Quin said. Completely irrelevant for me and my customers π
dont talk to me or my customers ever again
when you play a lot of server-based games
having your own server cpu could be nice
wouldnt have to pay to rent servers, and could rent it out yourself
I havre used intels contemporary 64 core CPUs and some older sun sparc 64 core CPUs, both of those are kind of special to use if you want to maximize performance.. The 64 core amd cpu is probably similar, even their recent desktop CPUs over a certain amount of cores are more like multiple CPUs on a single die.. It still makes sense to get smaller systems depending on the type of work you expect to be doing.
I bought a Ryzen 2700x because i knew i could use the extra cores as well as there's not that large of a gaming performance over the 8700k that would be noticeable to me at the very least.
more cores is better if you do anything at all besides gaming
16 core models are usually still designed more like a traditional CPU.. When the core count goes to 32 och 64 the computer basically becomes 2 or 4 different computers with high speed internal communication between them which can cause more problems than actually having 2 or 4 separate computers instead..
It's a case by case situation though.. If you need say >1000 cores you should probably get as many as possible in as little space as possible with as little energy draw and the best price you can get.
that's just called lazy
more cores is better if you do anything at all besides gaming
Well, I still believe that the majority of people do simple office work with the computer so that's not true.
They need far less than what gaming requires
My rule of thumb. Stay away from celerons, stick with i3 or a Ryzen CPU. Even for just office work.
I don't have any relation to that world., most people seems to be getting macbooks these days unless they are required to use windows.
even doing simple office work can be frustrating on a shit cpu, trust me
of course
I am very thankful that Access is not available for OSX, which means all Mac owners have to use Windows in some way or other here for studying π
but you probably won't need more than 4 cores normally.
it's not like excel will be that much faster with 32 cores instead of 4
Mhmm. 4 cores is the sweet spot for almost all games.
If even that. But duo core is generally not a good alternative, even if faster.
Celery is a mistake. i3s aren't much more and easier to deal with.
We sell a particular series of laptops from Lenovo, the V110. It comes in both Celeron, I3 and I5. The Celeron variant chokes just watching Netflix or Youtube no joke. And this is with 4GB RAM and an SSD.
We stopped suggesting it to anyone but pensioners who use their machines for taxes and such.
To me the 4gb ram looks like a larger problem than slower CPU, you can barley fit a desktop OS and a modern web browser in that..
But ofc, if you only ever have one tab open, it's probably fine.
I seem to have windows on my work/play PC now.. It's idling at 5.5GB usage now.. Only steam and and a chrome browsers with a handful of tabs open now.
(I do almost all my work in Linux)
I've got two tabs open on firefox, discord, and steam open.
yeah, i would say a minimum for a modern os+browser to work somewhat comfortably is 5-6GB ram..
I guess that swap to SSD's works quite well if you don't mind some performance penalty.
All depends on your use case - A modern PC user will definitely want 8GB, but someone who uses their PC for budget and mail generally won't
Most of our pensioners have laptops with harddrives for comparison. Anything will feel loads faster π
yeah, it's of course possible to use a slow computer as well.
The first PC i used had an 8086 CPU, now I have the i7-8086k π
Grew up on the Apple side of the fence, so the first PC I remember owning had a ... 486?
I remember playing Warcraft 2 on that
I mostly used Commodore 64 before switching to PC full time in the early 90s
my god you're old
i'm 19
I'm actually building a new joystick for my C64(s) right now π

demos are fun on limited hardware
using sanwa JLF sticks and buttons
thomas, you should look at the Ultimate C64
now it's just boring when you can get real time photorealistic graphics
I have one of those too π
my first processor was probably a pentium 2 or 3
Just hit 30, so my experience with the classic "PC" consoles is mostly emulation nostalgia. Except for the Amiga. Had a friend who had one, which we played a ton on.

Prototyping size and position of sticks/buttons using Ikea boxes π
I need all kinds of os'es/cmputers, do a bit of cross platform dev some times.
It's a good mobility machine, the macos trackpad interface is way better than windows or any linux DE I have tried.
so it's a nice machine to use when not doing work
or doing light work
can't make myself use it without pain, unfortunately
I have written my own windows manager i Linux so obviously I will probably never be remotley as productive in anything else since I have a user base of 1. Working in macos and windows annoys me equally
but it's possible.
If I had to work with software development in IOS i would probably rage quit though π
i wanna make a button box for macros/ games and stuff
Some people in the kerbal space program commuity has worked on seriously impressive controllers for their ships.
i want something like this.
just like with wooting the largest issue I see is how to make stuff work with it properly.. Like what the toggle switches actually should send out and how to configure game or whatever for it.
dedicated control panels are cool though.
augh the IBM Model F repro run is ending but I can't justify the expense
god damn it how much are they?
and so much force to press the keys, I have a model M which I used on the 90s on a shelf behind me.
I long for the keyboards of my youth
I've got an IBM Wheelwriter 3000 (iirc) and it uses a Model M
solid enough to last for decades, heavy enough to wield as a weapon
IIRC model F has less actuation force than model M.. The model F keys are comparable to mx black or something while model M keys are even harder to press.
I'm a heavy typist and I blame older keyboards for it
I bought a keyboard with mx blacks by accident for work a few years ago, one of the worst key eperiences in a long time.
Shit, for a while I typed on a literal typewriter because I couldn't play games on it V:
I need to buy a new ink ribbon for my typewriter
Electric, or manual? V:
IBM Wheelwriter, electric
Nice.
the feeling of triggering the buckling spring is unbeatable, sadly the noise is also unbeatable π . I even use mx brown instead of blue just to have a less noisy room even if I work from home and does not disturb anyone else. For typing that is, wooting one for gaming!
I did however use a model M for a while some years ago but had to stop because people could not sleep two walls and doors away from me when I was typing late at night π
i think i'd upset my dad if i used my Wheelwriter 3000 because I'd totally write a book with that thing.
Hmm. I guess I could pick up a Unicomp keyboard but there's still the shipping and exchange rate to contend with... hrmm
Haha those model f repros are way too expensive. 346 without keycaps? They are crazy
Yeah it'd be cheaper to buy a model f and make it USB compatible
damn ;o
instructions per cycle (IPC) or IPS (instructions per second)
it's the main thing which makes a cpu better than another, along with frequency and cores heh
What's the difference between current intel and AMD ipc?
haven't really checked, because I was planning to upgrade to zen 2 all along, but people say zen+ is 3-5 % behind coffee lake in IPC, and they're behind in clock speed aswell. So if Zen2 beats intel on IPC, it may not need to be better at clock speed, however Zen2 is predicted to clock pretty high aswell so it might match clockspeed for clockspeed, but also be faster on IPC. Remains to be seen
For gaming you're about 20FPS behind Coffee Lake on the high end CPUs when Overclocked.
But also cheaper CPU on Ryzen to make up for it.
Yes, but how much of that is the platform, the memory latency and cache latency which is currently faster on intel - might chance with zen 2
I'm very interested to see if zen 2 can go over DDR4 3600
I'd be pretty impressed (and super happy) if they can bring zen2 to intels level at the same price difference

At what price can you buy a second hand normal 4th gen i7 ?
incidentally i have a i7-4700MQ in my laptop :p
when I was hunting for a 4790k I never found a working one under 130 usd
most were 150+
Back when I was looking. I couldn't find them under like 200-300
good cpus and they're still highly sought after for sure
my nas is sporting a ryzen tr
otherwise ya its a pgood cpu and i only threw it away cause i had no use for it thx to having a brand new system
waaat you never throw it away. ebay or sell it locally
too much work
giving it away is an option as well
i was thinking about selling the whole thing for like 200bucks at first
meaning like the i7-4790k, gtx970, 32gigs ram and all
but
you didnt throw it all away?
into a tree that has i7-4790ks growing
and that is how itx motherboards are created
thats all I feel
harvested at a young age
on a good note it looks like ddr4 prices are dropping
saw somebody on hardwareswap selling 32gb for like 150
oooooh
i got my 32gigs for 170
i could use another 32gb
same
i paid 200 euros for my 16gb
jebuis
i thought 170β¬ are too much
@timid chasm i actually lied i kept the elgato capture card and the 10gbit card
I think I gave 150 or 160 for 16gb :\
i ordered that
usd for me
burns a little
sorry 167
two months after i bought it, it went up to 260 euros
ok well then i guess u got some good luck
until 1.5 months ago
@timid chasm hows fallout76
then it reached 205 euros (i know, because i checked again at that time)
i mean the only thing i kinda am worried about with my build is the RTX2080TI
before the prices went up, this set was 95 euros...
i bought a second hand 1080TI :p
my build is finally complete
i mean if the 1080TI would have the same perf on DNN as the RTX cards id have gone for one
but sadly im too deep into the AI rabbid hole
Personally, I like it. Making a new character but we enjoyed it during the beta. If you want typical fallout story and whatnot then pass. If you want to murder shit and loot with friends or even solo it's not bad
I kill stuff, loot, and craft
They got a build planner here too: https://nukesdragons.com/fallout76/perks
idk if i really want to spend money on it
just to then maybe realize that i dont like it
I wouldn't spend 60 on it for sure but I'm cheap and don't spend 60 on any game
I'd like a better character creator or like to see character mods once private servers are up but who knows.
private servers?
Hard to make Saitama with what I'm given
as in endorsed by bethesda?
Like run your own server
I assume
currently there is only dedicated bethesda servers
question is if its like all other pserver where people either got the official source somehow or made their own server
or if bethesda gives out official tools
I assume they'll put out server software for people to host it themselves
because they said they're bringing it sometime after launch
so kind of like ark etc
yeah, official server software
noice
If they put that out and mod support (not creation club bs) I see this game living for a long time
No word on how long private servers will be though yet
welp that already takes me out of the whole thing then
I used to care but not so much anymore
dont really want yet another launcher
already have steam, origin, uplay, some garbo nexon launcher and some others
yeah I've got another now for Torchlight Frontiers beta lol
Give me beta keys
damn i was well in my rights for a refund for this oculus and the person was wrong, just spoke to a new person.
But because the item is in stock now i cant π
any opinions on the rx 490 590
Haven't they all just been kinda meh rebrands basically?
yeah
AMD are the very definition of rebrands the last few gens
590 is an overclocked 580, which is itself an overclocked 480
Even before that, the 390 was an overclocked 290
They sure love those refreshes
so disappointing considering their cpus
They are still competitive. Just not on the personal consumer market
Ok, but like... thatβs the only market that means anything to me so...
Oh I don't disagree. Ryzen and Threadripper was a huge comeback, but VEGA was definitely a lot less interesting for most enthusiasts.
I mean there will always be diehards of both brands... personally I just use what is best at the time
It pained me to switch to intel because i know they are always intentionally holding back while they snicker at amd struggling to regain relevance
But at the same time i wasnt going to buy a cpu for approx same price and get less perf just to stick it to them
Same thing with gpus
they dont intentionally hold back or 10nm chips would be out lmao
but I get what you mean
and agree with them taking it too slow for a while
Iβm not saying they ALWAYS do it but they have a history of doing it
Last time i got a cpu (devilβs canyon i7-4790k) they def were
Amdβs best at the time was bulldozer or whatever its successor was
The fx-8350?
I had an fx-8150... it sucked and i was in denial about it
Hell, even portal bsodβd the cpu before they released bios updates to fix the clock cycle error
It took them like 3 weeks to release a fix
yeah I had a i5-2400 and now a 8600k, just skipped all the bullshit generations lol
Yeah i have not really had a huge incentive to upgrade my desktop
Same i7 and a 1080ti is pretty damn good
Nothing feels slow
32gb ram
Also upgrading means ddr4
So not only do i have to buy a new mobo and cpu but also memory
i dont really regret the switch from 4790k to 9700k mainly due to heavily using media shit and encoding now goes way faster but other than that nothing really improved
Why did Intel stop using hyperthreading again?
The 8700k has 6 cores, and 12 threads, whilst the 9700k has 8 cores, and 8 threads.
To make you buy the more expensive i9
.-.
I mean, touche.
But, except for the 2 more physical cores, 200mhz higher frequency, and maybe a higher IPC due to newer architecture, there isnt really any use in buying an 9700k over an 8700k
I mean its only ~30β¬ more, but the 4 less threads are a bit...
Hey all! Not sure if this is the right channel to ask - I'm looking for a set of keycaps to spice up my Wooting One. I love keycaps that have the function written such as "backspace", "enter", "shift" etc. Does anyone have a recommendation for such a set? Thanks and have a nice day!
that's not specific enough, there's shitload of keycaps with writing on the mods.
Have a look at JTK keycaps or GMK. Those are pretty much the best quality you can get otherwise you will have to check kbdfans, kprepublic or even aliexpress if you want something cheaper
Will do, thanks a lot for the suggestions!

does anyone know if flashing official firmware not using ota on samsung phones trips knox? i'd like my samsung pay to work
The phone emits a magnetic signal that simulates the magnetic strip found on the back of a credit or debit card.
some eftpos machines are obscure here
and don't support nfc
Pretty much everything in the UK is supported
Except Samsung's pay app π
Is it really of value tho? Rest of world is basically entirely chip and pin and NFC, only really 'Murica is still on magnetic strips
In Denmark and Sweden we are essentially cashless at this point. We either use the wireless card feature, or some kind of mobile payment app made and supported by one of the largest banks in either country - which just sends credit card payments instantly
Yeah same here in Finland
Right! time to watch all of the production vlogs. Been super busy for what seems like forever. π
Oh god the stream setup is jank. You went full on jank, @hexed gyro
Ye i was thinking the same
Oh man... that assembly montage is making me all kinds of excited. I love how the board looks.
You forget we have over 300m people in our country
We have nfc and chip cards but it took forever to get them because there are many times the number of POS machines
We had nfc for years before chips
We've had decades to do this. It isn't hard to roll out new POS systems on a curve as optional.
I agree but its on a scale few countries understand. China and india basically
China has like 1000 ways to pay for things
And india... well... thats another story
They have like 6 or 7 govt issued IDs because the govt agencies dont collab. Most payments are still in cash
You also forget that a lot of times, POS machines are not free to the business
Nor are they cheap
And on top of that, they might still be using an old machine that is incompatible with a new reader
Imagine if we started the process right during the mini recession lol (10y ago)
We still wouldnt have chips i bet
@sick creek then why do 99% of eftpos machines in russia support nfc π€
a country where almost nobody gives a fuck
also that's like... $300 for the set https://i.holl0w.me/Vam2aFBD1m.png
so i wouldn't call those expensive
where nobody gives a fuck
Theres your answer
We have lots of rules, regulations, laws governing transactions
There is also the political aspect as well
Itβs not simply one issue. Itβs like 20 issues
Should we have done it a long time ago? Yes. Faster? Yes
where nobody gives a fuck about technologies
do you really think a country as big as that doesn't have "lots of rules, regulations, laws governing transactions"?
Iβm not saying it doesnt
But clearly both systems are operated differently. The banks, pos machine/reader providers, etc are obviously not the same as the US. You cant really compare how russia does a rollout to how US does the same thing
china currently only has like 4-5 now :D

I just learned that the gtx 750 ti was a maxwell card, while the rest of the 700 series was kepler
did some research, the gtx 745, gtx 750 and gtx 750 ti all used the GM107 chips (apparently at some point, the gtx 750 used a GM206 chip, which is actually second gen maxwell architecture, gonna look into that)
so my question is: what's the deal with first gen maxwell vs second gen maxwell? What was the purpose of having these early maxwell chips only show up in 2 mainstream GPUs
they were the first of their kind, none of them showed up in the 600 series, so it wasn't to clean up backstock
800m series was a weird mix of architectures, using Fermi, Kepler and a little tiny bit of Maxwell (850m and some 860m)
and not a single 900 series used GM107 or GM108 (some 900m series used them, but that's it)
so first gen maxwell never held the majoriy of a series (save for some 900m series)
so the question remains: why does first gen maxwell architecture exist?
was the performance not good enough (hence skipping to "second" gen)? was it too good (cards were so good that they didnt bother making a desktop 800 series)?
was it testing grounds for all the power efficiency that they needed for the 900 series? were they planning that far ahead?
i recommend typing out those questions on your typewriter of choice and sending a bottle to nvidia hq via the ocean
I might just have to. Less than an hour ago, I was studying. Now I've completely obsessed myself with this pointless info
Another question. The gtx 970 and 980 both use the same chip, as well, the 980 ti and titan x use the same chip. If they're using the same chip, how do they sport different specs and performance?
was it all just PCB manufacturing? Could an OEM create a 970 that ran almost as good as a 980 based off of just the PCB they put it on?
I just read like 4 paragraphs about that card
^read above^ 745 being one of those most power efficient cards cuz it ran on maxwell first gen
I've owned many GPUs but most of them were broken or DOA
I had a DOA card from EVGA. RMA'd it, got back a card with a broken HDMI port which I kinda needed
got a 1060 which worked flawlessly
then my recent 2070 which killed itself
RMA'd that, now we wait to see if this one dies as well
I went from a 745, to a 760 4GB SC, to a 1080 8GB i got used in immaculate condition.
how big was the jump from 745 to 760?
quite a large one.
interesting
@toxic jolt re using the same gpu but different specs.. binning
The better binned chips go to titan
Etc
They can push the better binned chips further with a stock overclock
But to have an entire GPU line based on binning
Itβs likely also that the die has all the same features on both chips but some are disabled via laser
Then you are lucky? It is unlikely though
Unless you have massive cooling
Nvidia has done this since at least 2005
That was the first widespread case of being able to draw a conductive strip on your gpu board and βunlockβ the chip
Basically you could turn one card into another, but stability was not guaranteed
Binning is pretty foolproof though, because they will say... gpu has to run at N core voltage and be stable at N mhz
With standard cooling
Intel and amd do it but to a lesser degree
Amd used to take the phenom x6 that had defective or not-up-to-spec cores and turn them into x4βs
You could do the same thing... unlock the cpu and get the extra cores back but at your own risk
Honestly its the only thing that makes sense from a business perspective, given the nature of building chips on a wafer
They haven't done it nearly as much as Maxwell 2nd gen
Kepler and Fermi all had different chips
Different naming scheme
Maxwell 1 had 2 chips, and Maxwell 2 had like 3
Then Pascal and Turing are back to the old scheme will separate chips
I heard there was a little binning in 20 series but everyone was surprised
I don't understand Razer. They have a 1060 laptop and a 1080 laptop for 17" versions but if you want the 1080 you have to get a 4k display which SUUUUCKS. 4k on laptops are fucking disgusting. Whyyyyy
GAMER GEAR
Gamers suck.
so just get the 4k display and set it to 1920x1080
i have a laptop with a 4k hidpi display and you can set to 1080p and it honestly looks fine
i dont do that, but you CAN
seems like a waste tho
hidpi is the shit tho
granted, if it's 1080 and 4k at 60, it's probably gonna do alright
yeah i guess, but you don't need to play at native screen res
just set to 1080p and enjoy high fps
the thing is, it doesn't look shitty because its exactly 4x the number of pixels
yeah that looks awful usually
it doesnt tho
it does for me
it just doesnt look like a hidpi screen
did that with the wifes last laptop and hated it
you sure it was 4k vs 1080 tho
like
was it exactly 4x
if its not exactly 4x then yes it looks like shit
because you have subpixel rendering
or whatever its called
inbetween display pixels
basically if you take a 4k display and set it to 1080p you are artificially introducing the screendoor effect
all I know is we changed form 4k to 1080 and it always looked like shit and launchers were massive
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
must have been a "we know better" driver issue then
if they used some decent scaling probably
windows scaling fucking sucks, i will say that
from what I read nvidias scaling sucks for it too
but it was Razer so I'm not surprised something important was shit
fair enough lol
my dell xps 15 with 4k screen works great tho
i actually use it as a hackintosh 95% of the time
integer scaling for all pls
we just need 8k screens first
I'll settle for it with 4k and 1080 since some displays do it horrible
ultrawide ftw
looks tiny at that perspective but its a 38" dell ultrawide
laptop is 15"
I love the idea of an ultrawide but dunno if I could game on it lol
and my stand wouldn't hold it without fucking up my setup
there arent really any great ultrawide options for gaming
they all have a major drawback in some way
the drawback on this dell is that it doesnt have 144hz or gsync
if it did, it would be perfect
this monitor has an integrated usb hub, so when i boot up my desktop, all i have to do is switch display inputs
and my keyboard/mouse switch over
my old LG ultrawide (which is now my wife's monitor) had the same thing and i got so used to it, it's a feature i can't live without
until the day i have a dedicated pc gaming area/setup
I want to get the 5120x2160 ultrawide as a secondary monitor.
Has anyone made a network design using the start topology before? i have before but i want to ask some questions, even tho i have actually made a star topology network myself i wish for some feedback etc stil
Also having a WAP in a DMZ, smart move or?
well 250gb for 34β¬
wut
good enough
well it's.. 6 years old.
the point is, it's faster than a hdd
which is always good
Aye
there are people that still use HDD's
ik
good oppurtunity for a upgrade
youd be better
getting a sandisk
which is cheaper
and faster
in fact im tempted now
lol
for a game drive
id say more than a good deal
yeah also thinking about upgrading my old laptops
that's an insane deal
tbh idk how I feel about SSDs
the whole limited write cycle worries me more than it should
that's a whole different ballpark
im no expert but my guess is that good M.2s require faster controllers and such
= more money
yeah that's sad
I bought a SanDisk for my ssd too
it's not like hard drives last forever either
but its weird
"this is how long it will last"
and you just kinda go "ok"
They last very long if you don't write a nuke on it everyday
wouldn't it make more sense to have your boot disk on like a ROM?
All
for more endurance
to hdd?
thinking about getting those https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CGQKTWD/ref=sspa_dk_detail_4?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B07CGQKTWD&pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_p=8e5be0e3-b258-4b06-8b6e-695b24f935a4&pd_rd_wg=5rYEY&pf_rd_r=TSAJ7XGRQR567TEX08XB&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&pd_rd_w=4swhQ&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pd_rd_r=90c3e33a-ece6-11e8-8e9d-dde34b3ccda1 and put just M.2'S in so i get enough space for the cable management and the HDD's
I want to invest in m2 but it's so expensive
Your temp folder along can generate a shit ton
Redirect your browsers to a hdd
I was just being tinfoil with the cookies hahaha
:0
bro what if my ssd dies
it's no t t hat big of a deal tbh lol
but yea
in all fairness, wouldn't using a ROM or something make more sense?
You love Spotify? That bad boy is an ssd killer.
Love playing bdo? Literal ssd killer.
My C: SSD is running for over 21k hours, so I doubt you should even care about lifetime unless you do some really weird shit on the daily
Love watching 4k porn? Nut and ssd killer!
LOL
I always thought watching porn on your computer seemed weird
just inconvenient
like why not do it in the bathroom or something
Cos I sure as hell ain't taking my ipad or laptop in an echo chamber
headphones
Then you're not gonna hear anything, headphones leak audio
Which can be amplified
It's more awkward doing your business in a bathroom than it is this conversation.
I don't recommend shower
Wheeeeeeeeee
hey man I've had more awkward conversations
In college a friend said he had a fap on the plane during the holiday when telling us how the holiday went.
We've all had awkward conversations
Apparently so.
Reddit is a great place to learn new things
Things you'd never even think was the norm
depends what you call "norm"
People watch porn in general on planes too...
reddit is full of "bright minds"
Have you ever seen them window reflecting pics lol
?
Where someone is watching porn next to a window trying to hide it
But the window is mirroring it
LOL I havent seen this
can't say I noticed anything like in the 18 flights I had between america and eu
is this a common occurrence?
I mean according to reddit lol
well it will reduce the write read speed after few years
But if you wanna reserve your ssd for as long as possible
but the impact is for sure not significant
It depends how much yiu use it
It can generate so much writes
My folder is 12gb alone atm
From today
on my main which is 6 years old as mentioned, i am using it daily 6+ hours for the past 4 years
still boots up within few seconds
the write speed dropped by 20 ish % by now
which is pretty good
wot
and yet, its the only way to get your files back if you get hit with ransomware
so don't be a tard and get hit with ransomware?
yes, let me open this scarlettjohanssonfullynaked.exe
if you exercise even the tiniest amount of skepticism you will never get hit with ransomware
ehhhh
wish that would be so easy
could also come as a payload from infected downloads from trustworthy sites etc.
downloading what
idk, literally anything
define a trustworthy site tho? I never trusted any sites like filehippo or sites of that nature
literally anything
have you been hit with ransomware or something?
nope
and it's really unlikely, but it's not like trusted downloads from something like VLC media player can't be abused etc.
Or CCleaner or something that got compromised couple months ago, dont remember if that was the software
- don't install an "automatic update" as soon as the update is released
- don't download software from third party sources (it's never the only way)
so you don't install the newest version of a programm you haven't installed yet?
sure i do, but i also verify the checksum lol?
guessing most people dont
Β―_(γ)_/Β―
idk, it's pretty damn hard to get ransomware unless you're actively being a dumb
yeah it was CCleaner, last year, it got compromised before the version was made public, so I don't think that you would find it via a checksum
before the version was made public
so you cant download it new
so it was via in-app update
so if you don't automatically click "yes pls install" as soon as the window pops up
you are fine
i always wait a week
it got compromised, then released, and if you were looking to install it while that was the case, you would be downloading the compromised version
never used it, and it's probably a tiny ammount of people that fit that case, but I just didn't agre with your use of "never" π
fair
never is pretty absolute π
oh but speaking of hardware
does anyone know of a mouse that uses PBT plastic ;P
why does it have to be PBT? you just like it or for a specific reason?
Ducky makes PBT mice
and some Cooler Masters
not NVMe?
For games
I heard 3D wasn't as good
For endurance
But good for speed or whatever?
Probably cheap to make
PBT because i make ABS shiny
i have a shiny spot on my current mouse
like i wore off the texture, is the biggest issue
i wouldn't care if the texture was still there
mice made from PBT aren't very popular because it makes them heavier and the whole point of mouse is making them lighter
yeah i was also tempted to get more and more storage drives
i dont want more
i want to elimiate
i want to get rid of the old 500gb mechanical drive i have for user files atm
well that's the the goal of most people
i'd be happy if i could remove my hdd's
yet i am forced to use them
and i guess those are HDD's
2 tb of games, are you also one of those people that never uninstall games π
Fucking office, i have legit copy of it and its being aids.
Thanks MS
now im gonna pirate it

That was my conclusion years ago with Windows 10. I have literal unused licenses on a shelf to prove my ownership. I can't stand the way they (don't) handle motherboard swaps.
2019 just doesn't installa dn 2016 doesn't even try
still using office 2007 after all these years
i refuse to re install my entire office to 32 bit
Kappa
i wonder if its dreamspark isos that are the issue
XD
...

idk why microsoft doesnt allow you to download an offline installer
one hiccup in your network connection and the whole installation is toast
As I just said
they do?
Iso
you can burn the iso on a cd or make a bootable usb drive
well i got one for emergencies
Just won't work
However I got an exe downloader form Ms and it was working
But power went lmao
rip
Get yourself a 64/128GB USB Stick and put Easyboot on it. I've got every windows version back to 95 on it, as well as a ton of mini WinPE bootable Windows installs and tools for diagnosis. Has saved my butt so many times, and fits on a keychain.
that's a pretty good idea
i also got a spare stick with ubuntu on it
also saved my ass plenty of times
Open question, DMZ, would it be best having both a web server and mail server inside a dmz along with a WAP
Check out the Thermaltake A500 case on Amazon at https://lmg.gg/tta500 Check out the available positions at Memory Express at https://lmg.gg/8KVKd Finally a ...
I was looking at the optics but there were quite a few reports of dead pixels
its diriving me insane
How iz it driving you insane?
idk what to do
I didn't buy it because of dead pixel reports
aparently they dont accept a few dead pixles to be a defect
27
Smol monitor
i want 27 '' @ 1920x1080 144hz freesync with good colour accuracy
but its hard to find
either the displayes have poor reviews....or poor customer service
@reef patrol compensating for something?
<.<
Freebie - And it helps with Photo editing π
.>
144 is hard 2 find everywhere
Unless you wanna drop tons of cash
I guess companies are buying up all the panels, and no one's making them
Like how you can't get subtle 1440p 144s
The only ones are $600 GaMiNg monitors
i have 1440p ultrawide 34" @100hz
@reef patrol you have a small monitor :p
same name same monitor, what model do you have?
who?
you π
ah
hm I have an asus but it might be the same panel
@toxic jolt its what i want
anything larger is super expensive
24 inch is......too small imo
predicted to continue falling too
well aside from the potential increase due to usa's china tarrifs
@ashen spindle i also have 2x 24" 1080p monitors in vertical stand next to my ultrawide
planning on getting one in vertical stand too, for looking through code, haven't gotten around to it yet haha
do you ever wonder something silly like how much it would cost to fill the entire country of china with RAM chips
@toxic jolt define "fill"
?
are we talking only covering the ground or up to a certain height like it's a pool?
Oh
Up to your imagination
I was thinking filled up to a certain height
So that everything would be submerged
Do countries get a certain amount of airspace?
and if so what is the limit
22.2km it seems? that's horizontal boundary
too much work and thinking, I'm out
insane proce
holy shit
Immersive Headset for Windows Mixed Reality with Motion Controllers
@reef patrol you can return not matter what in the eu right xD
well excluding acidental dmg etc
One sec
i got it
Sorry - Busier than expected at work π
How are those MrPleasant?
WMR?
Lenovo explorer with motion controllers
β¬ 200
hmm might buy them
What would peeps do
2tb SSD, fast speeds, very fast speeds or
1tb m2 970 EVO but have to keep using my 2tb hdd
latter.
