though for that kind of use the spyder5express software will probably do just fine, 2.2 gamma 6500k
think I'll just check the shops around here, one of them will have something and I'll just borrow it for a day, pay idk 20 bucks and then I could still repeat that in 5 years for a new monitor if needed
living in a really big city so some shop will have it for sure
if you're only 'borrowing' it, get the x-rite iDisplay
it's more accurate than the spyder
think I"ll just borrow the first one I find haha, don't think that 1% more accuracy is something I'll notice, since I don't work in design or anything like that
but I'll keep that name in mind, thanks
wonder how hard would it be to make one
looks up spectrum of most even incandescent light possible and calibration quality colour filters
then again, do I even need those
looks at photo resistor sensitivity to different parts of the spectrum
seems like a fun project
My wiring is so bad
I will never attempt another Macbook upgrade/repair
I knew it was gonna be shitty but goddamn
what a mess

i still have a pentium III somewhere 550e, hidden from anyone calling me a hoarder
@latent mural i saw a 1080 founders edition at bestbuy today for 499.99 and online 1080's for less that 450
Bruh
1070s are like 600 CAD
Used to be able to get them for $400 on staff
Was gonna buy but they were all out of stock, when they came back, discount gone
Oof
Jelly
520, fuck me dude
I'd have to cut off an arm and a leg
Then $1000
Wish our economy wasn't so shit
Got my 1080 FE for 549 usd when they first started drifting in and out of stock around March. Then everything started coming down shortly after
Not unhappy with my purchase though
You can get a 1080Ti for around that price now
new? not that I've seen
yeah I doubt they've fallen THAT much already
Maybe if you catch a quick deal you find on buildapcsales but nothin that'll last very long
My buddy did end up paying ~670 for an evga 08G-P4-6286-KR and they're like 529 (shipped) now so that's kind of a bummer
yeah but now he also was able to play with a good card for some time already
you guys make me jealous
1080 for $500
it costs the same amount to get a 1060 rn
here
in canadia
canada has import taxes too don't they? so even havin a friend buy one and ship to you still costs a ton in the end?
bad news boys
I'm getting the 2070
thats the only card that'll have a dvi
and I need that ;P
Are you gonna pre order
thats not tru actually
I spent 2 hours trying to find something online
all I could find was an adapter for $150 that could do 120hz, not even 144
@neat oriole yea I'll probably preorder. We'll see the 2080 benchmarks before the preorder period starts for the 2070, so I won't be too worried
Iโd wait until we have actual benchmarks
I said cable, not adaptor ๐
@toxic jolt does the 2070 come with a usb-c? do we know that already?
I'm pretty sure
I mean there should be one...
I am thinking of getting the 2070
won't be able to get it until January unless I can make a 2 hour visit to a brick and mortar store in the UK or NL this year
maybe visit wooting HQ and get a wooting 2 while I'm at it
damn i think i need to re-apply the thermal pase
cpu is 80C
and then the power plug fell out of the AC socket
i thought i tripped a relay or a fuse
fell out? sometimes I have problems pulling mine out it's so tight
you're plugs are still new and tight @timid chasm :p
still odd timing
PC starts beeping, plug falls out in another room, suddenly the pc doesn't turn on at all, no power to the usb ports, i start worrying
next thing I pre-order a 2070, top of the line i9, pay my house as collateral
I'm real busy to figure this out ๐
but stock price is up 3.7% pre-market
Like what's so special about it
amd up 6%
did they release navi or wut ๐คฃ
Probably the CPU business going well and 7nm soon
financial call was a while ago, new servers cpus are released on schedule
always hopes for something special but there's nothing
I wonder if that virtualization thing could work on consumer cards and locally only.. Could make that run windows in a VM with GPU pass through thing easier..
Tightest plugs NA bb
amd up 10%
amd is the next bitcoin
oh, hello https://wccftech.com/exclusive-amd-senior-vice-president-jim-anderson-resigns-moving-on-to-become-ceo/ ๐ฅ
inb4 it's ceo of a small company under intel and intel just starts buying every employee away from amd lmao
lmao+cmeo (crying my eyes out)
Tom's Hardware published an article of herculean stupidity that pertained to the idea of pre-ordering based on nothing more than promises. Ad: Buy Lian Li's ...
yeah TH now even delted posts of other writers critisizing that article
aka I'm not browing TH anymore :>
But

Just buy it
Do you wanna live your life without raytracing
but not buying it or telling people to do so lmao
I can't wait for Raytracing to become commonplace. But first generation RTX won't be it.
I love that Steve was having a hard time figuring out if it's a joke or serious
I think AMD is crap rn
Steve mas milking it too much
They label it 7nm but in reality it's only 12-14
Just buy it before we get raytracing coins
yes and 10nm is not 10nm either, these numbers have lost meaning once they started, idk, go below 40?
It's not bad if everyone does it
Meanwhile Intel is still refreshing 14nm like "ohmygod guys what are we gonna do?!?!?????!"
well, you need good marketing if you had a bad products before, I don't blame them, ryzen is a good product, so make some good marketing to get people to buy it
some time ago Radeon was a good product but the marketing.. didn't work, look where that lead us
And AMD is like "HAHAHA look guys Intel is stupid, WE have 7NM ALREADY"
yes welcome to marketing, intel would do the same in their position
It just seems wrong to me

Yeah, everybody markets in shady misleading ways
thats why you wait on review sites and hope they make good reviews and dont tell you to just but new hardware
Actually you just buy it and ignore the review sites from what I'm reading
It's the new way
lol or that
2018 review sites are out, calling it
haha you cant tell me to buy it, I ALREADY BOUGHT IT
^
How bad can it really be
and it's not a game, you are legally able to return it when you get it without a hassle
you can cancel your pre-order on the last day even
depends on your location, returns can be a pain in the ass, also you still need to have the money, and if it turns out not to be what you want you'll have some time before the money comes back etc.
Well you just need to plan that stuff ahead
sucks if you live in a remote, but what can you do
I totally agree with the guy on that I hope many people buy it so raytracing can become mainstream faster
but thats not something that belongs as a recommendation on a tech site like toms
so...?
buy buy buy!
but why if it could be a terrible purchase decision?
well how bad could it be
very bad?
issues with the new way the cuda cores work could break a lot of games
just as a random example
Maybe he got a little payment on the side
This is nvidia though, it would be fixed eventually on their New fancy raytracing cards
dead serrious.
the msrp for the x70 series is what? 100 more for founders and aib? that's nothing
I totally get the blind buy if you have the money and are coming from like a 660 or 960 or 970 or something similar or maybe need top notch 4k performance but to consider it otherwise eh, imo
I don't think anyone off a 1000 card should upgrade to the same or 1 tier up
that's just silly
what if instead of a 2070 for 500 I can get a 1070 for 300, is it still worth? idk because not a single review is out, so you can't say if they are a good purchase
the 200 in it is the raytracing and new product tax, everyone should understand that who buys these
100 for new product 100 for raytracing
what if the 2070 is insanely better for above 1080p but absolutely identical in 1080p and I have a 1080p? stuff like that is why reviews are needed
because I dont think paying 200 as a tax for raytracing is something you can say is justified
100 is though
sure lets go with that, but then you still need a review to find out if this is the situation or if its better or worse
a very large part of a the world can't get a 1070 for 300
lowest i can find here is 430 euro
okay, then lets say its 100 more for just raytacing and I dont play a single game in 2 years that implements it
kinda wasted money then
so I'd want to wait on benchmarks to see if it gives me better fps in the games I play
well it just depends on how bad you think it will be
I can't imagine a 1070 being the same as 2070 in an older game
maybe a little worse than 1080, worst case
but that doesn't seem like it from what we get from nvidia's single number "benchmarks"
but its nvidias benchmark
from the guys who sell you the card
thats the entire reason tech sites do reviews
of course
and you want them to not be biased, but accurate
but it's also an opinion
"stop panicking over 100 and upgrade like you wanted for the past 3 years"
while it's still in stock
100 might be nothing for some and a big amount of money for some
if you can do 400 for a card, you can do 500, otherwise, just dont
wait for 200-300 cards, which were not announced yet in any regard
so I disagree that a tech site, supposed to bring you fact based options/opinions/guides should straight up ignore that and tell you to buy something new because he is a fan and makes a really unprofessional article about it
and I disagree with your first sentence
I think everyone should have their own head
no one should just buy it if anyone just says it
maybe they should add [opinion] next time
or post it on a blog/personal site and not a site like TH?
wasn't he the chief?
they already had a previousl article telling people to wait on top of that lmao
new editor in chief or something yeah
yes,I simply believe it's the completley wrong place to put it
he basically said "btw just buy it, ignore the whole purpose of websites like ours"
how dear he
but hey, opinions, you think it doesn't fit the site, im perfectly fine with it
typo
it kinda defeats the point if someone wants to browse the internet to see if he should buy a 20xx card and google shows him the site? and yes, it's his opinion, but it also makes me question if I can even trust benchmarks and such from him
well benchmarks are ..design to be... absolute
what the reviewer says along the way doesn't matter too much
uhh I need to trust him to follow the methodology to his best ability and not do it in a way it favors what he hopes to happen? for example
well a lot of things games have their own benchmarks inbuilt
i dont think his unpopular opinion is any sign that he would be making disgenuine
i'd lose trust more if they'd do something from a misunderstanding
like testing high power draw problems in regards of supply wire/connection overheating on a video card using a a low pass filter instead of RMS and not using a thermal camera to show that a problem isn't always really relevant
idk him saying "you should buy them because nvidia confirmed they have between 0 and infinity better performance" made me doubt his ability to objectively carry out a comparison
and I dont know what you are referencing with that
gamer's nexus tests on rx480 drawing out of spec power from the motherboard
which sounds like a misunderstanding but an intend to help customers? havent seen/read anything about it but from that it sounds like a mistake instead of something that sounds like a paid marketing gig
Well to me it sounds like nvidia favouritism
because it showed something (potentially) bad about one amd card?
I personally don't think it's a big deal
and If they'd be favouring AMD then they'd test a bunch of motherboards with a FLIR and show that - yes it's out of spec, no you shouldn't really care
tech's is clearly an opinion, this might not be
well yeah if it is out of spec it's an an opinion? did they also explicitly say that it is a bad thing?
as i recall, they did
they did not do it correctly and presented it as genuine findings, i find that far worse than the chief posting his opinion
did a 2 minute serch and the bit I skipped to he said to check out a article on TH (lol) because TH has equipment they dont have so sounds fine to me? idk different topic anyway
I just believe opinions cost nothing
things presented as findings are what determine the site's validity
I believe they can cost credibility, if you say on a tech site, that waiting for reviews is wrong
whoever decided to put USB ports on monitors, you da real mvp
LEL
honestly, don't have a wooting here using my old very nice scissor switch keyboard, it has a usb port on the sides,
and it is really nice
usb sticks, fan
i do love the fan though
blowing on my hands so no sweat stays
very nice on hot days
one thing i really hate
about my corsair galive
is that every so often the side buttons stop working
and require me to re install corsair unity
@pale sigil sounds like an aggravating problem

Oh oh oh ohhhh https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/amp.tomshardware.com/news/use-amd-freesync-nvidia-gpu,37701.html
if you have a Ryzen apu
Still pretty dope
still neat just a fairly small userbase I imagine
moves to a different topic
Why does compressed air cost so much
@pale sigil Takes a lot of manpower to compress air with your hands. Keeps slipping between the fingers
@spiral pier -_-
Because it's useless. Buy a cheap bycicle air compressor and enjoy PCMR life.
@reef patrol Are you certain that works? because the two i have..... no
in fact, i think you need a reservoir, they're all single acting pistons
(on their downward stroke they will drop the pressure down to nothing)
@pale sigil buy a strong balloon and a straw
don't forget to hyperventilate a bit to minimise moisture as much as possible
Spring-ding
@latent mural flaretech blues are 55cn
I use one daily at the shop, @latent mural Tyuio
Correct 85
yeah but a bicycle pump?
Why is 85cN Good for blacks, but bad for blues?
yeah well that's not it, that's why I'm saying do not get a bicycle compressor
What's the difference?
can't sustain the pressure
Aha
@pale sigil So, of the following, which would you recommend for stiffer blues:
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/100pcs-pack-Switches-Spring-for-Cherry-MX-DIY-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard-35G-40G-45G-60G-62G/32834345470.html
35G/40G/45G/60G/62G/67G/150G/80G
If blues are already 65, and I want stiffer... but you think 85 is TOO stiff...
If you'll go to a shop and ask for a bicycle compressor you'll get this little thingy
My old boss bought one of these huge compressed air machines
sighs
We pretty much laughed and said why? We don't use compressed air much
We never used it
Also springs
Hmm
You're using cherry atm right @latent mural
Oh, derp
lol
I bought the Wooting Two with blues/blacks
Because I intended to put the black springs in the blue switches.
Hmm, I wonder if there are any 70cn
Aye I saw
I'm thinking maybe just get 80 and see how that goes.
There are 70cn ones
That's so marginally firmer than 65 that I don't think I'll really notice a difference
A friend of mine has Cherry MX Greens in his keyboard, and I REALLY like those.
Blues certainly don't feel like 55cn
Those are 80cN switches, so...
I'm thinking that the 85 cN Black springs in the blue switches shouldn't be terrible.
Ye they are nice, I like gateron greens tho
I don't like how they sound
I'm ordering a set of 80 cN springs from Ali
Springs ordered.

buy buy buy
No no no
yeah saw that, does look promising
what IF it means that turing doesn't over clock because it's already highly factory clocked?
I mean Pascal was already at that point after the non-reference boards started showing up
GPU boost gets you extremely close to your max OC on a lot of chips these days

Retina technology: โ (us) โ (macbook) โ (surface)
๐ค
I had the original pocket
It was pretty good, just underpowered because atom
The m3 should be great
I've been drooling over it since prototype stages
Only got it for a short while but that'll do me
I think I might have fucked the thermal paste on that macbook and I definitely fucked up the heatsink screws so I cant repaste it
hard to find numbers for how hot it "should" run
13" 2013 Retina Macbook Pro w/i7 btw if anyone knows where to look
but I'm getting 55-70C idling and 70-80C while browsing
starts getting into mid-90s under any kind of actual load
if I crank the fan to max it stays in the mid 80s but the auto-control never does it
solution: throw mac away and use a good device instead >P
you can buy a new one
macs are very good at having to buy new ones
they also have a 70% name tax added which is the only reason I hate on them tbh
I didnt pay for this one and tbh I really like it
I found one dude that had similar temps on the same model so idk maybe it just runs super hot
I should have checked my temps before but I didnt think about it
I mean it's a MacBook so no big surprise
You can't circumvent heat
I run my i7 and it'll heat up my room just by idling
Sure maybe it's rocking a slow clock if it's in a laptop, but all you're really doing it concentrating that heat into a very small area
@pale sigil I found you on level1techs ๐ฎ
curious about gpu passthrough and stuff and found you through a random thread...nerd.
Lol
You ever get that working?
that thing is better than most other cameras?
Going to peck @errant bloom soon though as he does it
You using Ubuntu or what? Guides I've seen seem to use Arch or Fedora mostly
I used Ubuntu
I tried both
More hassle than it's worth
I'll just wait for steams new software hopefully
I love Linux
But doing pass through was absolute aids
And I couldn't be bothered
I spent the entire day tyring to fix shit and the Linux discord barley helped
Two different days
2 different attempts
Couldn't be bothered trying again
Right now I won't be attempting it for some time
It's a huge time sync I can't be bothered with

I hate the way that dude is trying really hard to make the worst heatsink for the largest amount of money
if only he had any workshop experience....
Linus is strange
@latent mural Do you mean the previous video on this one? because its Linus who requests such projects.
He just provides approval for buying
yeah but wasn't Ivan the... mechanical person
because in sketchy heatsink everything was done wrong
Anyone with pudding keycaps? are they slippy or rougher than the wooting
they feel roughly the same to me. I would say the puddings are every so slightly rougher and you can see a little more texture to them
although the icons on the wooting are more raised
Ivan isn't the engineer.
The lad who is with Linus in the video above is the resident workshop nerd. But Ivan does have some experience as well
I think it's Alex who is the engineer.
That's the guy. I think he has some background in car mechanics or something.
For the bike video he did a solid job constructing it.
Sweatiest PC ever
Something like that
I watched that one
cough linus wooting two video cough
cough someone should cough def make this happen
They did a video on the One AFAIK.
These keyboards have freaking LASERS in their keyswitches. Are they better than purely mechanical switches? Tunnelbear sponsor link: Try Tunnelbear for free ...
No dedicated one, though.
I feel like that could generate some much wanted hype
And help the whole "make analog switches standard"
In light of how razer kinda just said fuck it lol
but wouldn't they review it like... months later
I mean c'mon razer, you literally made optical switches
Not unless someone sent them a review copy
I liked 3kliksphilip's videos on them, that's how I learned about the wooting
He did a really fantastic job at going over all the possibilities
He practically sold the preorder to me
Yeah, if they get a review copy they would do it sooner. But they also have to think it is interesting enough to talk about. I don't think they've really done much reviews of a single keyboard recently, anyway. And they technically already covered the same keyboard without a numpad, so...
I agree that it would be good if they did. Just that they probably wouldn't give it a full video.
I'm sure they are up to their neck in review copies
Linus probably won't review it solo anyhow. Their in house CS player didn't like it.
Really? Who
edzel I would assume
Edzel probably thinks itโs like cheating or something
Oh my god that grip... If you're gonna cut off one end of a controller. Why even keep the middle part that immensely big.
I don't really mind these that much. You can space your hands pretty good
Or when you play PC on the TV, this would be easier to place on living room surfaces than most keyboards
The design is also made to be somewhat ergonomic
The other one just looks like a controller with a side cut off. They could've just designed it similar to a Wii Nunchuck or the Vive controller that's made for a single hand
Like they stopped thinking about the product after they "solved" the probem
But I can just grab a normal controller and hold that in one hand right?
Can't ever use that controller without that mouse
Just a shame 3rd party support quickly
Yeah. Switch is doing way better tho
for sure
It did?
That's pretty damn impressive
Man they really messed up there
They released the Wii mini in November 2012. Then released the WiiU in... November 2012...
Nintendo has a track record of illogical decisions
WiiU was marketed really badly
Most people thought you would buy an extension tablet to the existing Wii
So people saw the price tag and thought: Hell no
Releasing a Wii mini the same month doesn't help with the confusion either
I didn't even know that thing existed
Oh yeah for sure, the Wii wouldn't be able to support it
But the average parent buying "A Nintendo" for their kids wouldn't realise that
I thought the DS, DSlite , DSi, 3DS, 3DS:XL, 2DS, and new 3DS was a mess as well
Imagine being a parent that knows nothing about it to get a DS for your kid
What model do you get
Bad neighborhood?
I had the Gameboy pocket, great thing
Hotel...theft? ๐ค
Loved the fact that the color games were backwards compatible
Crap hotels. Insurance surely
Ah, that's the GBA
That's absurd. Medicine can be sold tho.
Anyway, back to tech
Ah, that's over the counter stuff
Right
The Gameboy line was great
The gameboy color games were playable on the older gameboys
Just without the color, obviously
Hahaha, probably
But I loved that the newer games worked on older hardware
GB worked on GBA, and then GBA worked on DS as well
Stopped with the 3DS tho
Yeah, damn shame
Loved being able to play GBA on my DS. Better screen and stuff
My GBA:SP is pretty broken now though
Battery is half dead and the power button is in a state where it doesn't make connection anymore in the on position
I could probably just open it up and fix the power switch
Only problem is that it randomly turns off due to some loose connection
Yeah probably
Imagine the internals of the button being overshot when you flick the switch on and it loses contact again
You have to pull it back a bit for it to actually keep contact
Many years of violent reboots ๐
I can also just run it on my DS ๐คท
That's weird
Maybe the plastic got worn out and the fit is loose
Itโs just that the keyboard makes it easier
Because you can adjust the actuation point
With a controller you have to hold it at a very specific spot
With the wooting you can make it be only at that speed unless you bottom out
I donโt think itโs cheating I just think itโs kinda this weird grey area but until valve says something Iโll just keep doing it
Yeah thatโs why I said Iโm gonna keep doing it until valve says something
It would be better if they just gave everyone a wooting
A special CSGO x WOOTING bundle
Buy a wooting, receive a copy of CSGO
Or like a normal cherry board but with the movement keys as flaretech
Maybe some people would like a smurf
Yeah thereโs a few
But none really do wooting kind of analog
I think theyโre just optical but they donโt have the 256 or whatever levels of actuation points
Iโm honestly not sure
Ask it in #archived_questions_answers
I think the levels are hardware based
Theyโd probably need a better sensor
Because it just works
Well they are supposed to be ~40% better than pascal in general as well
Uhh how would that matter?
Nah unless you go over 100 constantly thatโll never matter for consumers
The PCBs are known and almost all parts are better than needed at their power draw
Still not worth in performance per dollar compared to pascal unless you go 4K or so
You can have the rtx cards in 2 way nvlink I think
Crossfire is AMD
I think it exists ? Not sure
That should change with NVLink at some point.
yeah
Basically nVidia will treat multiple GPUs as a single GPU, so game devs won't have to code for SLI as such. In theory of course.
I think they will in some way
My expectation is that theyโll change next gpu architecture to work with multi chip modules like ryzen
They'll definitely need to. But I wouldn't expect both brands to work together.
double the cost....not double performance
why go with some sort of config like that
double the power consumption too
canada lol
seams inefficient
But you also already have one gpu so you pay for one to sli instead of a brand new one
idk
Still wouldnโt do it with pascal personally
i wouldnt go with nvidea anyway....the marketing bs they tried to pull recently is.......what the fuck
i mean......we will see what hapens when intel releases their own gpu
i dont see amd overtaking nvidea
though they are really killing intell XD
I hope itโll be a good start so they can challenge NVIDIA with the generation after that
Both markets are targeted
Both are extremely profitable
Well not the same card obviously
there is also this
f you wanty to read it.....then by all means...go ahead
good luck
125 pages
Donโt care about something by NVIDIA or AMD when itโs comparing to each other, will obviously be in their favor
yeah
i dont really like amd either.....both companies are pulling marketing bs...though the GPP in my eyes was unforgivable
rx560
they made a newr version with less power and told no one
no
theve been out of the cpu market for a while
Nah they only had Bulldozer, canโt make a bad product worse LUL
Different targets so hard to compare
Yeah but also not aimed at HEDT
Personally never had a driver issue with either so
Uhh if itโs a new driver for a game I play usually whenever it comes out
But otherwise just randomly
GEx
Lol
What software is forced?
No it isn't
At least on my experience it always asked
Newer drivers it asked up front, older drivers it's an component that can be unchecked
Moral of the story; don't blindly next next next through installers
yeah
windows is ok if you like to give your life to microsoft
linux required some fine tuning
mac os......what the fuck
everything i have works for windows
i want to move to arch
installing arch takes practice
though most distros are including telemetry like windows
or atleast ubuntu just did with the latest version
istill havent set up arch properly
all profesional apps work on windows......
Linux is very fiddly indeed if you want to do fancy crap, even something as simple as multi monitor support is rather tragic
and for those of you that say "just use wine tricks"....they dont always work
really?
ill redownload it later and try it out again
what
i did
but i still want to use arch
the flexibility is amazing
mint is the best that just works imo
and i dont fully understand that guide
later
i need to redownload it to get the latest iso
whoever sent that video editor.....thats supper awesome
like blender XD
I should for realsies learn blender, it's probably the most capable open source video editor
Yes it is
It's a true multitool
Maybe i caan install arch on m phone
I've used it to join two clips, I'm a professional!
That would be incredibly slow if you emulated a x86 CPU
Yeah
What about DSL
Dam small linux
Yeah
Yeah....
Real talk
Are there aby other distros like arch with customization galore?
.......
Gentoo is a fuckin mess
Lfs?
Ooooooo

Gentoo is ez
Oh god
I dont have thay kind of skill

@proud nacelle Wouldn't piping xclip into a file do what you want? If you just want to paste something into a file.
Fair point
nano is really nice for new people bc it shows the keycodes for quitting, saving etc
I only need Nano for editing config files
I do my normal development in VSCode nowadays
I know my basic vim commands that I need to get in and save
nearly everyone i know who uses linux whatver way uses nanao
Press ESC, then fiddle somewhere on the keyboard, pet your cat, say your daily prayer to Linus Torvalds. Then sacrifice a Windows recovery disk.
That's how you save right?
Haha, yeah I know the command
nano is just ctrl + x
Doesn't beat the ctrl + x IMO
ez life
I get the power of Vim in its file searching and multiple line editing
It's really good in complex stuff
I mean, nano's find is good enough
But Vim supports regex searching right?
Which is really powerful when you need it
Like I said. When I need command line editing, I just need to go in a file, and edit a specific line
So ctrl + w -> query -> edit line -> ctrl + x
Sometimes I get the idea of activating Vim mode in Vscode to get used to the commands
MacOS allows me to scroll the pointer through the file
Specific column selection with the cursor doesn't work though
Oh yeah I know. Had some colleagues at my previous job that used Vim religiously. Also a few emacs guys
I've tried a lot of stuff. Vscode suits me fine nowadays
A lot of people do @pale sigil
Why, use software like brackets, atom etc
for programming i mean
Which there are many open source programs to do that haha
vim would be more hassle than its worth
I agree with that.
Especially when hopping to different text
holding down arrow keys reee
its still just as bad xD
it all hassle
The few hardcore Vim users that use it is for day to day programming on their desktop never really had concrete reasons for using it
Just: I like it and know it
Because they think they are cool.
And dont like Windows
Which no one
in the right mind
should use
Its purely a learning tool
Never tried any other editor/IDE. Even though Atom, VSCode and Sublime all support Vim keymaps anyway
it does not provide enough debug info etc
outdated
etc
Brackets or gtfo
Especially Atom
Brackets
People should always use Brackets or atom
Tried Brackets once, didn't really get into it then
Ye im not a fan of atom
Microsoft made a better Electron based IDE than Github in less time lol
Atom is owned by adobe?
Looks good too
visual studio, nano, notepad, that's all I use
Aye i remember that meme hha
They really did a number on Skype though
i was gutted to hear the news.
never crashed on me
I never had that problem with Vscode
and I need the intellisense lol
visual studio is fine
It's pretty damn fast for me and doesn't crash
Had way more issues with Atom
what do you use it for? as in what languages?
Can Atom even open files larger than 2MB now?
wait are you on a mac Vim?
I see VSCode as an IDE if you want it to be
ah, makes sense, VS on mac/linux isnt as stable as on windows
weird
I tried Rubymine once. Got hit in the face with super long boot time for a project, and an overload of features I didn't need
Lol, I love Ruby
Got into it and dropped PHP like a brick
I really f*king hate PHP
Combination of not liking the syntax and the need for a damn ini file. As well as having to deal with a lot shit that Developers gave me to deploy for them
html/xml etc is sooo annoying with these brackets on european keyboard layouts
honestly the biggest reason I got one with US layout
That's why we use template engines like HAML for Ruby, or Jade in PHP
Not sure what the defacto standard for PHP is nowadays
Is it Twig?
%section.container
%h1= post.title
%h2= post.subtitle
.content
= post.content
This is basically how I need to write all my html now
Or at least, how I let the frontenders do their thing
Company's standard is HAML. I prefer slim myself
Slim is a template language whose goal is reduce html syntax to the essential parts without becoming cryptic.
I wish I could just use C# forever lol
Why make a language that eventually compiles back to machinecode? To make it easier for people to read
You said it yourself, HTML is annoying. So people make HTML easier to write
As for why there are so many varieties of templating engines on top of HTML
Oh, I know Brainfuck
you guys want to see the best worst language ever?
I meant that I know of its existence
Not that I am actually able to write Brainfuck
I'd need a nobel prize if I were able to
Or at least, I'd feel I'd be entitled to one
This one is fun as well
Speaking of feminists and code
Have you guys seen the Directly Injected CSS repo?
no
but it cant beat c+equality, where every command has a 40% chance to refuse to work
Read the DICCS readme
It's actually a huge dick joke
The shitstorm in the issues is great
The titles of the issues are great as well
"Can't seem to get diccs up"
Some people lost it at the creator
Primarily about the "Don't force DICCS onto others" line
lmao nice
That post really made my day when it was active. Had a slow day at work as well
I love the internet
"Unfortunately, while DILDOSS is more stable, it's never not hard to use."
He's also the guy that made brototype
He's a myth, a legend
Maybe he got doxxed
maybe he had an accident that broke his DICCS, heared it takes quite a while to fix if that breaks
fuck didnt mean to send enter yet
Sometimes I kinda like the over the top approach
Only when it's self aware about it
Supergirl universe is living in 2040 when we're just living in 2018
or the classic CSI enhance with factor 5billion
Damn Python 6
I read somewhere that those crime shows just try to see what they can get away with
eh, I'd guess 50% they dont know better 50% they know some and do it on purpose
"I'll create a GUI interface"
You what...
I mean... you can... But that's just wasting time you don't have
Boss: I need this CSV filtered and sorted
Dev: I'll create a GUI interface
maybe its a micro pc disguised as a HDD? HMMMMM?
No copyright infringement intended. I do not own anything but this channel. All rights go to Warner Bros. Entertainment, DC Comics and The CW. Made for enter...
This show pisses me off so much
Hacking apparently means you can blow up the PC on the other side
She can hack drones in the air with 3 swipes on her tablet
I used to like that character... When she was comic relief in S1/S2
The hacking got so outrageous that she literally just hacks the plot now
There's one scene where she's talking about a start-up project. And she's asking if he developed it in Java or SQl
wait are you telling me the Meltdown issue is not actually able to melt down an entire pc???
I mean, I can understand bricking if there's a an actual hardware issue
Even causing a fire, if the board is actually made that awful
But explosions, nah son
Even a possible fire would take hours
Hacker guy sent a power surge to the whole room
Power surge means that electronics explode
Naturally
Obviously there needs to be a big sarcasm warning there
If a power surge hit my house like that, the breakers would just switch off
Like any modern house should
Do you call it that? Breakers switch off?
The scene in question was in a high tech loft appartment
But yeah, Things don't randomly explode in a power surge
Not like that anyway
Sure
Like I said, in the most catastrophic way you could get a fire
But still. You can't just send a power surge to a building
Measuring device in my house is. For telemetry for the electricity provider
Actual transformers aren't
Also what's with hacking camera's in TV. Those writers assume that all these camera's are on this neatly organized network
I'll just hack the CCTV of everything in the whole city
Unless it's unprotected IP cams in random offices and houses. You can literally google those
Yeah that scene really hurt me
Shitty routers?
Usually 2-in-1 units for these kind of households
Also, it;s an IP cam
Most people want to access it from outside
So I guess they do open up the ports then
And figure nobody will get their IP or something
It does
They use the default password lol
admin:admin
I remember there was a specific Google query that would list all these IP camera's
It's quite a lot of camera's too
With our lord and saviour Gaben
\s ofcourse
Although, I gotta say. I'm impressed with Steam Play they just released
Did you see the Steam Play stuff?
The Proton fork of WINE
We need native support, ofcourse
But this does give a huge boost
If it's about games I want to be brainless skull lol
Or at the very least not have to deal with 2 hours of debugging to get a game to work
Proton is optional though
It's only enabled for a few games
Yeah, the package is
I'm not bothered about disk space though
I'm swimming in that stuff
My DAW and audio plugins laugh at the measly disk space Steam uses for its install
What should you even ask?
Well, my DAW not so much actually
Less then Steam, to be honest
Audio plugins (the virtual instrument ones) are filled to the brim with samples
Just a drum machine can take up 100GB easily
Orchestral pack? Another 250 GB
Imagine a violin
Now imagine some guy is recording every single possible note on that thing in 20 different variations
And it's recorded at the highest bitrate and saved as WAV
It is
The orchestral packs are really huge though
Like the 20 variations is probably putting it low
It's 20 variations of hitting the string, and then in 40 more different velocities
For like 4 octaves of notes. So that's 48 * 20 * 40
For some rough maths
Yeah that's possible
I do that for orchestra packs
Not all installers let you do that though
These sample sizes get so insane that SuperiorDrummer 3 even has an option to buy it with the samples preloaded on an SSD for you ๐
It's not updated
Only loaded
You just load op the samples into the sampler. Let it play the part and print that to a new WAV on your HDD
Music producers love their uncompressed audio for creating music
It sure is
Well. Yes and no though. Compression is necessary.
You just don't want your raw files to be compressed
Everything is compressed during mixing though
But slightly, to bring up harmonic content in the less audible frequencies
Makes vocals pop more than just dry recordings
Creating a song with everything already compressed is a bitch, though. Less to work with
SteamCMD isn't cutting it?
I had a Don't Starve server set up with it once
I thought I needed to use a key for that
What, the bot?
Haven't seen it yet
When does it show up?
LIKE THIS
Don't see ME6
I think callum was still working on setting that up correctly
!cookie
No cookies for Quinn.
LinuxGSM is a command line tool for quick, simple deployment and management of a Don't Starve Together Linux dedicated game server.
I like this site
Its mostly used for us.
Hey there, the following commands are available!
!cookie - Never gives Quinn a Cookie
!restore - Link on how to restore
!keycap - How to safely remove keycaps
!stabalizer - how to remove stabalizers
!driver Yellow triangle fix
More to be added, this command is only for WootHelp, please contact @pale sigil to add more.
For the bot?
My caps are just amazing
haha its disabled
Probably the amount of capped letters
dw
Its just for custom commands thats it.
IM PRETTY SURE I DISABLED CAP SPAM FILTER
Ye
xD
Wait wut
Accidental discrimination
the only thing that should be on is dupe messages
because of when people have a meh connection
It's because you like vim
thanks for bringing this up
Didn't see it
I did see someone typing
Ninja edit probably
Ree's aren't allowed then?
๐
You missed one
There we go
But yeah, that whole site has pages for a lot of different dedicated servers
i heard some news
about valves new system
with steam
supporting already thousands of windows games on linux
Yeah
You gotta enable the beta channel, though
By default it's only a few games
Curated by Steam

Which is mind blowing in itself
Steam Play is in the stable channel now btw
You need to switch it to support every game
Steam Play is what they call their cross platform availibility
wait wait wait wait, is it out now? the new linux support?
Proton
OH MYYYY GAWDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Photon is the Electron-esque thing
It's a fork of Wine, yeah
They have an official list of games that are verified to work with it
The list of thousands is just user maintained
bit dissapointing
i hope they make it more open like they did steam link
where you could just add your own games
Not sure how it handles already native games on Linux with the "enable for all" option
I play mostly on my Switch now, tbh
Nothing on there for me to play
I had that when it came out
outside of steam would just mean making a steam shortcut right
cos if so
i know what im doing now
Say i want to run LOL
And get aids
Will seam let me
"Add a none steam game"
is what you have to do for like steam link
Do you have many Windows games on your machine that aren't through Steam?
Also, check if Warframe works well @pale sigil
See that's very dissspointing
I used to play a lot of mmorpgs
And most of them use their own launchers
And for example a game I used to play was not on lutrus
Ye I have used lutrus
Few weeks ago
I have not
A name, ugh Black desert
I haven't played it in like 7 months
But good example
Of the type or games I played
Warframe runs fine in Lutris?
Although.. I see that 24fps in the top one
Stutters?
This was just showing
That I used lutrus
Anyway if was stuttery af
In the second image
Constant drops and freezes
24fps one was my laptop so ignore that image
Was just showing I used lutrus
I would love a switch for Warframe
But there's no sync
Yeah the lack of sync is a turn-off
