it'll die in 2-3 years no matter how you'll use it
and with 'die' I mean 'severely deteriorate'
Batteries last longer if you charge via wireless charger
It's also just convenience
Just to sit down and place it
Especially at your desk
Or at airports
Places you eat
Also I use mije when I sleep or at my desk
If I want to use fast charge I will when I need to but it's rarely ever the case
"Batteries last longer if you charge via wireless charger" how was this tested? Is it just a consequence of them charging half as quickly?
I just charge them overnight, have never ran into a situation where I was low on battery
I hate the idea of my phone plugged in
@warped dove many research papers
Just google them
Also SJ there's no way you haven't had a phone that's degraded faster than it should
If you plug your phone in all the time
I'm on a 2 year upgrade cycle
Ah
my old 6S had a crappy battery when it was brand new, it didn't last a full day
So you fall for the whole we make your phones useless so you have to keep buying new ones trap
besides I always give my old phones to my sister
My Nexus 6P degraded twice
Maybe 3 times, although I think that time was the SoC breaking
ugh iPhone X has such a small battery
bigger than 8+
They just slow down the phone 😄
I really wish they did a night mode
the biggest power consumer is the screen
and since X has an OLED screen
black pixels don't consume anything
Nothing new
it would easily double the battery life
Samsung let you change colours and resolution to save battery
like I said, I'm not that bothered
As they've been using Amoled for years
No I'm just saying
I'm using an iPad as we speak
I'm not super anti apple
too bad the mouse I just bought wasn't on amazon lol
no wireless mice, no thanks
Skrub
wireless mice are for complete plebs
Wireless for games? Eh... no 😄
alright please do your research and get up to date
on that stuff
there is no connectivity issues or anything with the new wireless mice
delay is the same as wired
but why should I go wireless when I need to recharge it in the middle of using it and dont notice having a cable anyway? + always more risky of having signal issues with wirless than with wired mice
Not sure how research is even applicable here as we never made arguments about those things in the first place
it's not related to wireless charging
it's just that more power puts less stress on the battery
but like I said, in the long run it doesn't make a difference
batteries are cheap and most of the time you can replace them yourself
you don't need to recharge it in the middle of anything
i also thought i don't notice the cable but after i swapped i can't go back to wired
feels so uncomfortable
can't speak to the risk factor since i don't have any stats for that
haven't seen any complaints about the new wave wireless mice yet but that requires more time i imagine
how do I not need to recharge it? do they suddenly offer batteries with infinite batteries?
i said in the middle of anything
you just overnight it
unless you're at your pc literally 24/7
then you have a point
well how long do they last without charging
yeah would be annoying if you ever forget to charge it and have to do it in the middle of something
also the cable thing is personal preference, I notice no differnce between my mouse or a wireless one
well either get into a habit of charging every 2 days or just be aware of the battery level, plus it's not like it's the apple mouse
where you can't use it plugged in
you just plug it in and use it like a normal wired mouse
yeah but a wireless mouse won't have a great cable so it'd most likely be more noticeable when you use it
wait why wouldn't it?
idk, the one i have has a cable of similar quality to previous wired ones i had
plus wireless adds extra cost I'd assume
can't speak for mice i don't have but afaik all the wireless logitech G ones have a similar cable
oh yea for sure it costs more
that's a valid point
Logitech G703 is a very good wireless mouse, battery lasts up to 30h and if you buy the logitech powerplay mousepad you never have to charge it using a cable again
And the wireless Corsair K63 mech Keyboard was 90€ on amazon primeday sale today, which is less than most other corsair keyboards, so yes going full wireless is an option for gaming right now.
yeah not arguing its unrealistic or bad, but it's not necessary/cheaper/etc.
3 months of how many hours per day?
it's used for about 6 hours a day at work
monday to friday
still it's a bit impressive imho, especially considering I got it over 2 years ago
couldn't go away from having side buttons after having used them ones tbh
I wouldn't use it on my gaming rig
like ever
it's borderline unusable with windows
but yeah for gaming rigs you're definitely better off with a wired mouse so there's that
I mean even for working/browsing it's just such a handy shortcut
it has gestures to do that
true forgot that, but then I'd have to use two different things for the same input on work/gaming it's probably a good thing for mac, as they have different shortcuts anyway
yeah the gestures practically don't work on windows
scrolling does, but that's it
and the shortcuts are pretty much the same
just where you have control key, most of the time it's just command key
but yeah I don't use any of my mac gear on my gaming rig
it's just horrible
«or just be aware of the battery level» - plenty of things to keep track of/monitor already. Don't need more mental burden.
How come you write like that btw?
Oh that's what it is
«…» is English quotation marks, yes…
🤔 how do you write «
@latent mural ComposeKey + < + <
wtf is a compose key
compose key?
#linuxmasterrace
huh guess I found what I can bind on my deactivated capslock
@ashen spindle Caps Lock is what I use for Compose Key. 😄
that's some hard work for writing quotes 🤔
Compose key is what enabled me to switch from NORDIC ISO to US ANSI without losing the ability to write Scandinavian.
(And actually made a lot of things a lot easier to write.)
I usually avoid US keyboard like the plague so it doesn't infect my installation
I used to only be able to use (NORDIC) ISO keyboards, but then I got a US ANSI laptop (which I use(d) much more frequently than desktop).
and if you can't, you can always create a tool that does that
I love linux even though I don't use it in non-server environments
yeah I was planning to switching to a layout like ANSI but wasn't sure where to pput my ÄÖÜ keys, guess with that I can fix that issue
@latent mural It’s really not that hard when you get used to it.
on windows it's really common for US keyboard to appear in the language bar whenever it wants to if you ever had it enabled, no matter if it's disabled or whatever. that's why I usually just install in finnish and add japanese and don't touch the eng layouts
@ashen spindle Worked well for me. Also, I mix Danish (æøå), Swedish (äöå), Spanish (é etc.), Lithuanian (ū, ė, …), and typographic punctuation…
No one keyboard layout will give me access to all of that easily.
But compose key makes all of them equally easy/tricky to write.
praise be the otherwise bad capslock key
You could do both. :p
(Insert is "hidden" under Fn + End on my laptop's keyboard, so not really an easily reachable key for me.)
I once had a keyboard that just completely randomly had a long delete button instead of delete and insert
My caps lock is a 2nd "3" Key
When Canadian Linus likes my daily driver headset.
The new PC37X represents another partnership between Massdrop + Sennheiser but this time they are bringing one of today's BEST gaming headsets -the Game One-...
yay it's all black!
my main turnoff for headsets is gamer-y colors/things or accent colors
Canussian Linus
isn't he from one of the former ussr countries?
Linus is Finnish. #linuxmasterrace #onetruelinus
You'd Dmitry's thick accent was a dead giveaway 😄
@reef patrol regarding the PC37X (Black Sennheiser Game One) It seem just a tad dated. Those materials... But I'm certainly considering. Though, I don't need a microphone - just some accurate open-design gaming headphones.
I am backing these headphones, so maybe I shouldn't buy two pairs at once... https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1819116160/pure-customizable-headphones-that-adjust-to-your-h
The GSP 500 seem heckin' good. But stupid looking. Those were released very recently. I think Hardware Canucks may have missed them...
Well, same. Just become interested due to some recent activity.
My main gripe with headsets is audio quality
oh wait this conversation is old
@misty saffron sad reality is that he Is trying
Materials, @warped dove ? 😃
And the 373D style headphones are strictly a combination of gamer mic requirements and longterm use. If I only had to listen, I'd get some proper studio headphones from something like Sennheiser instead.
@reef patrol dat velvet. The guy in the video says himself, it attracts debris and the cable is stiff and coarse.
Also, I did some firsthand research on mid-high cost headphones and found that only the very newest seinsheiser headphones didn't feel flimsy and have overrated sound.
I think on the headphone end it has an tricky shape.
I've got the Sennheiser game ones, really good
Mic needs more power than most onboard soundcards will give though
Good thing the 373D comes with a dongle 😃
@warm ermine what games do you play in vr
Most games I have 1.9 super sample
But some not do much
bought it for vrchat in january and that's where i spent the most time
but i also played lone echo beat saber robo recall
lone echo was the one where i really tested supersampling properly
Lone echo is just perfectly optimised
i can't go above 1.4 in it without stutter
New echo combat beta on the 20th
with a gtx970 and i7-8700k
yea but i find that that's where gpu is my bottleneck mostly
because i had a worse processor initially when i cought vr
bought*
and i haven't noticed much improvement with the new one
whereas the other games i play outside vr had immense improvement
i play every game on all low anyway since i just want highest fps possible for competitive reasons, i'm not really into high quality singleplayer experience and stuff like that
Yeah but PC37X are basically 598 with a mic
And better priced
If you really want good imaging open backs beyerdynamic image really well
And try to get the 600ohm versions
They’re the best
DT880 is mostly neutral and DT990 is v-shaped
600ohms are less harsh
250 ohms sound a lot harsher
These are pretty sensitive cans
Like 102db or something
Your ears definitely will adjust to the sound
But why not have it adjust to something less harsh
Anyhow
Beyers image very well
Yeah I get it
I hear it all the time over on audio forums
Like they’re happy with their stuff and any suggestions is just sort of turned down in a way
Nothing wrong with that
Pretty natural response
Amen
And usually what happens is someone goes “what should I get” when they already have something in mind and only want validation for their pre-made decision
People are just protective of their investments

And its late
Sleep or coffee
maybe both
Maybe a White Russian then

i guess same thing as swapping from adblock to ublock back in the day
thanks for linking that tho
Time to beat some sense into those kids at the factories!
Although that looks like an older macbook
Or whatever mac
Well thats just annoying -_- discovered my mobo only has m.2 wifi slot
wait
it does have it xD wrong mobo
🤦 i looked up the wrong mobo somehow xD
Wonder if the gpu will be in the way xD
Seems like a bit of a flaw
Looks flush with the pcie slot. I've not seen a typical GPU hang lower than that I don't think
my 1060 was evga and I dont remember it hanging low
putting an ssd in? I didn't think heat bothered ssds much
Eh i just kinda looked it up
Make sure you're not using up too many SATA ports for m.2 functionality. My last mobo was restricted on that. Not that I needed it but it was something to know, I guess
as my friend has got one and i dont think his mobo even has an m.2 xD
this is gonna be fun if he hasn't
Im using 3 Sata's atm
Id easily remove 1 or 2 if i got a 970
I don't think I could replace either of my storage hard drives with an ssd. At least not for space :\
all my downloads go on my nas
Oh damn VR Headsets are going to be using USB-C in the future, that will be amazing....
I think W2 will be my first USB C device.
My friend bought a 1tb m.2 and it's just for games, he isn't sticking his OS on it
not even enough for 1 of my common folders lol 😦
one time I had a 1tb meme drive
I thought it'd be easy to fill, turns out it wasnt
I had over 3000 sorted memes on it, and it was only like a couple gigs
it's hard to find 1tb worth of bad quality memes
Let's do the math
My math (and my math is REALLY bad), says that I would need about 15707309 memes, if the average meme I had was 70kb
granted, the drive had bad sectors, so god knows how much you'd get on before it'd just die
And trust me, they were good memes 😜
that's why I only save 4k memes
Absurd res memes
8k memes
In bdo could take 10k screenshots
Files were like 60mb+
My screenshots folder was like 30gb

It’s actually incredible
You zoom in and think “wow that’s a lot of noise”
Then you zoom in further
And it’s like “holy shit these are all stars”
I can beat that
“Each with its system of planets”
1 min
“Each with a small chance of having a habitable planet”
Really gives you a perspective of the universe
They release new images all the time
You guys ever played Space Engine?
THe sandbox simulator thingy
What does it do different
You can just fly between stars and planets
But little interactionb
Not discord view
Yeah its free
Oh the image
Also free
But space engine is more exploration while universe sandbox is more about the space physics
I also like turning Jupiter into a star by throwing more Jupiters at it
Yeah but explosions
Okay okay
I got it to look star like after about 100 and something Jupiters
Man Pluto horizon day was incredible (New horizons)
Spacetelescope.org publishes the best space pics
It is real
Just enhanced and or p images of what it looks like
The way the colour composition works is they use multiple sensors that only detect one specific band of waves
Then they assign each band it’s own colour
Then they combine it
They take radio waves, ir, visible, uv, and x-ray
Then they put em together
Since a lot of these things are so far away (and blue/red shifted) you can’t see much just with visible waves
Yes but the Images are still not raw
And heavily edited
Still nice tho
Just removes some of the charm xD
They’re edited to look more like how they’d look if they were right in front of us
They’ll also usually stitch multiple images together
So hypothetically if the bubble nebula was suddenly moved right where the sun is we would more likely see it as the blue one rather than the red one.
Also the raw data is usually monochrome anyway
They have to add colour afterwards
^
new wootility version is merged in homebrew.
We should get even more badass images once the James Webb launches (if it launches without issues 🤞 )
is there a way to limit apps from hammering my SSD
one or two updaters like to crush my SSD with writes and it freezes a lot of stuff on my PC until they're done
this is an 500GB 850 EVO btw not a cheapo SSD so idk why it does that
I haven't the slightest about the SSD
Also, if anybody has DisplayFusion you can get NASA pic of the days as random wallpapers. Literally the only reason I got it a while back for custom individual wallpapers across my monitors
@tall finch You can install the Samsung Magician to check for SSD firmware updates and it's overall health.
Do they disable when gaming or anything? I do mostly borderless windowed and I feel like it'd use a lot of resources
I'll have to look into it
@tall finch some apps are just trash and will hammer your hdd/ssd no matter how fast your drive is
the health is fine and the firmware etc is all up to date
just weird b/c I dont remember my old SSD having this problem and it was a "budget" SSD
could just be forgetting since that was 4ever ago though
I guess it could also be something like the SATA port/controller getting wonky in its old age
it's normal. windows defender also loved to go apeshit and hammer my ssd with 500mb/s read
guess why it's disabled now 😛
I found something on google that says you can set stuff to low i/o priority so I'm gonna try to turn all the offenders to low priority and see how it goes
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
i have a love hate relationship with brown switches
I would like to have brown switches for my Wooting .-. but I probably have to wait for those.
@spare wave ye haha
i have been using membrane keyboards for a long time...i was originally going to get an mx blue(because clicky). however, people told me that the click gets anoying...so i went with linear....and i dont realy want a tactile bump(any form of resistance at that point) for racing games and emulators(rip my wii)
hehehe....i can see it getting annoying...though the tactile bump is totally worth it for typing(something i dont do allot of)
meh....i can always buy some blues if i don't like the linears....that's the bonus of hot swappable keys, right?
Yes
Can use different switches at the same time also
For example I use reds on wasd and space
Red= linear
Blue= clicky
Black=linear (more actuation force)?
Yes
Can you provide a decibel peak of the blues?
wouldn't the surface that the keyboard rests on also play a role in the sound?
Sometimes, yes.
altitude as well
absolute aids of a theme
Photo editing, works with Lightroom and Aurora
It's pretty neat. Feels like there's a bit too much wasted space, but I can appreciate a dedicated tool 😄
229 euro
Phew
yeah their site is nice, same with the outer packaging for the deck
they say they're working on more compatibility
I'm guessing some of it will work natively, just not all the features
I'd buy an open source version with less empty space. Just blanks for everything, so you could label it and program it ala. Autohotkey 😄
I really want to dabble in a 10Gb network but its so pricy
So few networks are even 1Gbit, much less 10 😄
i know haha
Jumbo Frames? Ain't heard of that
I have been thinking of replaceing my 2x2tb drives with 2x4tb drives in my nas
but it kinda feels like throwing away money
Do you not have room for just 2 more drives?
what would one dabble with in 10gb networking lol
Today's mailbox was good
Kono Store Hexgear X-1 Bluetooth keyboard with low profile kailh choc blues
Just redownloaded Project Aurora! Did we have any updates? I didn't find any news here but still can't see Wooting under Devices & Wrappers
Are you using the public build?
Because the public stable build doesn't support eh wooting
@rugged pelican did you release it now the firmware is out?
I hadn't, I'm not able to make a release right now as I'm away and won't be back until Thursday
Fair enough, just wondered if you knew or not yet :)
@latent mural
awesome, thanks! @pale sigil @rugged pelican
Anyone know how well side print transparent top keycaps really look? https://img.banggood.com/images/oaupload/banggood/images/08/B8/5d6a5027-6db5-4eb1-8500-28b6c2f1c5f8.jpg
@digital cliff yes! it takes a fair bit to understand how it works but I really like it so far! still discovering features 😛
wow.....not sure how i would use that(typing is becoming a lost skill) since i still need to see the letters
did you download the bleeding edge build? it's the only one that worked for me!
strange :/
Ugh the keyboard PCB world is so overwelming.
i still think wooting is a better option...being able to set the actuation point is such a good idea....and using the keyboard like an analog stick brings such a huge advantage is some games
(i have such high hopes for this)
Who are you responding to? Me?
Okay, after couple of hours of playing and experimenting with Project Aurora I can say this thing is amazing. So many possibilities and so much personalization. Congrats to @rugged pelican will definitely keep using this until the official release.

yes...and its mostly just an idle thought as well
i have 2 Wootings xD, i dont just use my Wooting
Heretic. I use both of mine.
Well, i mean.
I do to when i play games
Both are on my desk
Wait you mean Wooting 😄
I may end up taking out £120 again
Question: Anyone here with a threadripper? (currently got a i7-4790k) I want to know if it is worth getting one XD
Sorry, too pricey for my blood
I am thinking about getting the new threadripper, the one expected to be 32 cores and 64 threads. Tbh I am still on DDR3 and it is showing its limits XD
threadripper seems easy to see if its worth it, no?
need lots of fuggin cores -> worth; dont need lots of fuggin cores -> not worth
i've had 3 ryzen cpus (still have the 1800x), 1500x is the same perf as a 4790k
unless you're doing computational-heavy stuff, you probably don't need TR though
Well, it will be used as a workstation and gaming all probably at the same time with multiple vms working XD
XD
Cos he can
because noone tries to stop me @pale sigil 😛
Doesn't really seem beneficial to run a thread ripper
3 reasons for it:
The packaging is dope
Cores are <3
AND ITS GOT RIPPER IN THE FUCKING NAME XD
good enough reasons? 😛
No
I mean why not right?
(I'd totally buy one if I had the coin right now)
got a 1800x and a 8700k currently
so you even have a 8700k @haughty condor and you want a threadripper?
A month later the price of the 8700k dropped like £40
yes, although full disclosure I was part of AMD's advocacy group
so i'm admittedly bias
It's more because why or if he had the coin
and threadripper is just badass
I think anyone would really
I'd love to make a ryzen system because I can
because casual cartel behavior
No one likes flexing man
RAM prices are why I'm still on a 4770k
those shifty ram oems
16GB 2400Mhz for $55 was 2 strong
No need to grab everyone's attention
@tall finch I am still on the 4th gen too 😛
I was lucky with my ram
but the ddr3 is starting to show its flaws
I got mine during sky lake launch
So I got or like 1/4 of the cost
Should have just got 32gb xD
ah yeah i got mine just before that
Regrets
but it was low-volume kit so it was expensive
£666.36 for only 64gb kit..... (trident z)
I only buy server stuff second hand XD
I buy all my GPUs 2nd hand lol
I might buy another 1080 and SLI them, but even then.... not really needed
Researching the 1070 during release
SLI is gross tho
I said you know what I'll get a 1070 In 2 or 3 months
Idk wish to was but I was like, it's on prime now 1 hour delivery
Made my friend press the guy button xD
I almost got s 1080 tho
I think the picture I have @pale sigil will make you want to slap me so hard my non-existent brain will exist once again
Here, have it 😛
the price tag of them all, is close to 3.5k 😛 still a waste? XD
You're like that kid we laughed at a few months ago for linking his wanting to build
No logic
Just childish
I do
I really do
I've had more money than I could handle before
Went crazy on shit
In the end I was just stupid for wanting to be better than others or wanting the fanciest
This isnt me going balls-to-the-wall in crazy
I could go more XD
Ill stop and hide under my desk now
ah ok, thanks ❤
Is that threadripper actually fast on single threaded things?
I am sure nothing from AMD is fast on the single threaded tasks
it's as fast as any of the ryzen chips, 2nd gen should be slightly improved
cinebench 150-ish, which isn't that far off intel
“Oh yeah. I can play with this nonstop. @AMDRyzen @AMDGaming @AMD #AMDRedTeam https://t.co/v0w7XL6jM7”
plus you can do this with the box
turn it into GlaDOS or something
@timid chasm Everything, VMs mainly
I would get a Epyc for my server, but that shit is expensive atm XD
Ah I see. I imagine they're a beast at streaming. Hell the 1700x's are nice for that
haha uh yeah
I would probably stream on it, but even then my i7-4790k doesnt even sweat XD
do 1080 or 720? I imagine the 4790k's high clock speed helps a lot with that though too
1080
interesting, I wouldn't expected it to be able to steam 108060
@haughty condor shall we do a gta style heist to get it?
should be okay on veryfast, bitrate about 4000?
yeah let's
you bring the neon helicopter
4k for 1080 fast paced scenes? that surprises me even more
I know for a fact that it was super smooth on the stream and never dropped a frame
That's crazy I would've expected a bunch of artifacting at 4000 on very fast
The only problem I found with it, was the ram, it was too slow for many things I was doing (not livestreaming, data transfers and VM work)
DDR3 just doesn't cut it
(reason for my upgrade)
I should maybe work on my obs setup methinks
I recommend using streamlabs OBS if you dont already
Ugh I hate streamlabs unless they added multiple profiles
umm, Cant help there as I havent streamed in weeks and not on a pc that has it installed
I'll dl it in a bit and check it out. I just like having a recording profile and then another stream for my test page
yeah, you can do that I am sure
you can also edit a scene in the editor without it being live
Last time I used it they just allowed one profile which I found highly annoying
when you last use it?
JAnuary, I think?
maybe then, I only started streaming again like a month ago and then had to stop 2 weeks ago XD
Stick your alexia inside it
Program it to respond to "Ryzen tell me the weather"
You what
You don't expect it to stream 1080? @timid chasm
@spiral belfry you don't have Intel virtualisation that's why
It's godly
Makes your virtual machines as fast as your normal
Even for gaming (i used to run bdo in a vm)
I didn't expect the 4790k to do 1080/60
Oh
It can with nvida
nvenc? yeah with crazy bitrate probably
Ye it's powerful
AMD has its own virt instructions, also widely supported i think
@pale sigil what you mean I dont have Intel Virtualization, I do XD
You play BDO in windowed?
Did
But that's not a window
That's just a custom layout I made
Originally it had social links and was supposed to support a camera view
@pale sigil you got i5-6600K?
It was like an old version of the one I made for a streamer
And no
I have a 7700k atm
Oc 5ghz
was about to say, the 6600k is slow af
Really isn't
Is it because its an i5 because I know your one of those elitist
Who think I7 is a god vs i5
well, i7 is basically god against a i5 but even then the speed and score of that i5 is poor against it
and even then, I am putting it against a 4th gen cpu, it should beat it or come close
Sigh
which it doesnt
Go buy a thread ripper boi
at least type it right 😛
I do still want to correct you, my i7-4790k does have Intel Virtualization, after you saying it doesnt
Yes
There's another thing
Intel provide
Can't remember the name
But yes it's very much mobo dependant
Also
But chances are he has it too
What mobo do you have
Either way cop idk why your machines aren't enough I've ran about 4 machines windows based and 2 Linux based at once perfectly fine doing mostly hacking based work for uni
Windows, Linux (Ubuntu), Mac
Idk why you'd run so many at once on your personal desktop
I mean bash is literally built into windows now
Because it need more for university XD and their system is too slow
Unless you're running a Linux server on a vps on your desktop
Which still makes no sense
Why would you need 9 at once
Nothing I can imagine requires this
To you, no because it seems your course isn't as demanding
It is
Anyway, finished work, driving home
But we have 6700ks with 32gb ram
And come rolls 980s
With SSDs
Blown away how fast oreo is vs nug
holy shit its real
it happened
RVOLT arrested and the rediecting to bulgeria gov was real
Do you know much about Denuvo?
Bulgaria? Since when were they involved. Last I heard it was the chinese groups who did the legwork on Denuvo.
Aaanyway.
No, Revolt has always lead it.
CPY etc are the ones who make their own crack using voskis work
3DM spearheaded it for a long time.
Those are the ones I was thinking of.
Anyhow - I'd never personally buy a Denuvo protected game, since there's no guarantee they'll remove it down the line for retro gaming purposes.
I have Rise, but I didn't pay for it personally. I only use it for benchmarking.
nope....not familiar
Im concering adding a WMR Headset to my collection during black friday
wmr?
Windows mixed reality
aren't you like overly happy with your vr headset :p
@plush summit volksi is a well known cracker who cracks denuvo and for a few years been the only one to did it
He oppened up a little
And now denuvo are sueing him and all his devices and servers were taken
ouch
It's always been a sport on how fast games are cracked
But when denuvo came out a new game begun
Seeing how fast they could crack denuvo, it was a fun thing to watch
Denuvo betting cracked before the games even released or a few hours after
But now denuvo use a different version which means it's going to take some time to crack, but obviously that's going to be pretty delayed now
wasnt denuvo also one of these drms that caused performance issues for some people so they had a good reason to remove it even if its bought legally?
The exact same denuvo
That's part of the game
When every game is cracked they compare performance
really?
so if i pirate my games they will have a chance of running faster?
mind you thats not going to keep my from buying it first
usually not, only really know of denuvo beeing shitty, which is why doom and such removed it after a while afaik
but if thats the case i will titaly grab cracked versions
It's case by case mostly
how do i tell if games use this anticheat?
Denuvo? It's clearly labelled on Steam store pages.
denuvo is not clearly labelled anywhere. sometimes it's labelled whether it's present, never what it does
there's good reason to remove it regardless of performance; it does no good. the only party with anything to gain from it is the vendor of denuvo itself.
Correcto
thats DRM in general tho
yes and no
DRM is worthless
it achieves nothing
and it fucks up the experience for non-pirates
ok, it helps in slowing the pirates down
but it's not rocket science to get around it
Well, it doesn't make them loose money
not enough anyway.
DRM is pointless, really is.
But its the world we live in.
correct
Example from Far Cry Primal.
steam is a drm
Correcto
not sure what i would do with out the sacings
But the issue is Denvuo beign added as a second drn
even though im given a licence to play the games...and not ownership of them
So if steam ever goes down there wouldn't be a huge worry
however Denuvo would still be there
I think people are ok with steam to a certain degree
But when they add other DRMs
i like steam
It becomes worse
I dont think steam would ever suddenly shut down but even if they did
they would have to have a backup plan
steam: we used to make games, now we make money
lets hope that DRMs dont turn evil
if they do......expect me to turn to piracy
I'm ok with steam because it adds value to me as a customer, it's a service at the same time as it is a drm
I have chosen to get the steam version of games instead of drm-free but I wouldn't choose to get a denuvo version instead of a denuvo-free version 🤔 the denuvo version has no appeal to me as a consumer
the "Steam version" doesnt inherently have to use Steamworks DRM tho
they could add social features to Denuvo too lol
but does it impact performance?
denuvo does to some extent, especially noticeable with slow hdds
it's possible to work around the performance hit a bit by means of game design
no clue
would imagine it has some impact as Steam uses non-zero resources in the background, the question is does that translate into any measurable FPS difference on modern hardware
probably not, would be my guess
typical drm in steam games isn't particularly heavy, denuvo is mostly a problem because it's heavier perf-wise than typical anti-piracy measures 👀 live decryption
atleast steam is not apple
«steam is a drm» Eh. Steam can be used as DRM, but some games you can buy/download via Steam and run them without Steam - they're not using Steam's DRM.
And @tall finch already pointed this out. Nvm then. :p
Steam DRM is not real DRM
Valve are actually quite open about it
The Steam DRM wrapper is an important part of Steam platform because it verifies game ownership and ensures that Steamworks features work properly by launching Steam before launching the game.
The Steam DRM wrapper by itself is not is not a anti-piracy solution. The Steam DRM wrapper protects against extremely casual piracy (i.e. copying all game files to another computer) and has some obfuscation, but it is easily removed by a motivated attacker.
how do I quote in discord
you can do this which kinda counts
By adding ` to either end of a message
Beyond that I have no idea
Or 3 of them for multiline things
My guy```
@pliant tulip I usually just use normal English quotation marks: «…»
Yeah, AFAIK, that's the purpose of the "AltGr" key. I was very fond of that when I was in ISO layout land. 😃
Except that it has the "grouping" function for combining keys. 😃
odd they support codes with `'s but not quotes with >
@digital cliff It's not like I know even half of the combinations available with Compose Key either. I know the ones I use on a frequent basis, some other than that are logical, and some I have to look up (or just copy/paste from elsewhere…).
But e.g. « as << is fairly logical to me. 😃
wait, how to alt code with tkl
I'm in Sweden, yes, but not Swedish. 😃
ISO = International Organization for Standardization
ANSI = American National Standards Institute
ah
AltGr is a ISO thing though
but yeah, I've done a custom layout for myself
since I'm bilingual, mostly typing in English, but also some Latvian, I can't really be bothered to switch between layouts
so I'm rolling with a modified UK ISO layout
where on AltGr I have all the diacritical marks I need for Latvian
@digital cliff I'm natively Danish (so need æøå), lived in Barcelona last year (lots of accent aigus (´)), have a Lithuanian girlfriend (ėū …), and live in Sweden now (äöå).
that way they don't interfere with each other
@digital cliff But my layout is default US, I just have Caps Lock replaced by Compose Key.
@spice portal yep you're better off doing a custom layour for yourself
@pliant tulip Not really. Standard US ANSI layout + Compose Key does everything I need and want.
I guess it comes down to personal preference
Compose key interferes with my typing speed too much
freso@koume ~> setxkbmap -query rules: evdev model: pc105 layout: us options: compose:caps,terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp
Yeah. I quite enjoyed how easily accessible <>[] became with ANSI keyboard (once I got used to it).
The hardest thing switching, I think, was actually the size of the enter/return key.
@digital cliff you don't have to unmap any of the existing stuff
you have 2 modifier options and dead key option
one modifier being shift, other being alt gr
actually 3, shift and altgr can be combined too, for another modifier
I have ā on altgr+a, Ā on altgr+shift+a etc
£ on altgr+shift+3, € on altgr +4 etc
I personally cannot stand anything that isn't QWERTY
Capslock is a utility key for me, it's like a macro key that every application universally recognizes
some don't like scroll lock/pause key, etc, some don't like my virtual F13-24 row, etc
caps lock is universally recognized
I never use it for its intended purpose, but it's a fairly important key for me
Huh, you're right. https://imgur.com/mRNOELn
I don't know when/how I got that mixed up.
@pliant tulip Compose Key doesn't have to be on Caps Lock key. You could set it to right-Alt or Insert or whatever key you want.
nobody does that in Latvian
everyone in Latvia uses ,, "
therefore I disregard that map
(If your keyboard doesn't have a dedicated Compose Key, which most contemporary keyboards don't.)
I just don't know what I'd bind it to
that's easy to reach and that I don't use
but yeah, I don't like the compose key, it interferes with my typing speed
Looking forward to getting used to a hhkb layout
What's considered bare min for running 144hz without too much sacrifice? 1070? or will a 1060 manage
Gotta turn stuff down a decent bit?
dont neglect your CPU for high refresh rate gaming
But my cousin can pretty much play anything
Fc5 is a masterpiece
When it comes to performance
Rx 580? Or gtx 1060
1060 6gb
I went rx 580 because of the 8gb
?
Vram?
580 beats the 1060 in fc5 according to some benchmarks
Which 1060
3/6
6
Interesting
Vram helped there I guess
Still wouldn't go amd for gpus
I've avoided them for years 🤷
Loading 512 textures in mc.... thought i needed more vram for that
I was with Nvidia
But then they pulled the marketing shit with the gtx 1050 and 1070ti....as well as the gpp
Ye 1070ti made me salty
They sre probably doing the same thing with the 11 series cards
If you compare it to the last gen non ti versions...then yes, Performance is 50% faster
I'd love to see AMD come out with some killer gpus just to try and force nvidia to not pull that stuff
@timid chasmthat wont happen
A guy can hope can't he?
And has always been budget bang for buck company
I'm waiting for intell and that new software gpu
Software gpu?
Yeah
go on...
....let me fetch the ltt vod

This thing
If you can build a card that can bdcome relevant again with a firmeare update......i will be totally shocked and happy
They never got it working....but the fact it was built shows something
i could be completely misinterpreting that vod
we don't even know if it was meant to be a graphics card
it having video output ports doesn't mean anything
and there's virtually no chance that you could make anything like that competitive in the consumer market
it's essentially a Xeon Phi coprocessor
APerfidiousDaneToday at 10:12 AM
A guy can hope can't he?
I dont think Intel even makes those kind of things anymore
they do
it's more or less this
but yeah, it'd be so impractical to make it even remotely competitive in the consumer market as a GPU, that I'm just going to call it impossible
even if you can reduce the overhead, it still wouldn't get on par with a graphics card that'd cost the same
I got confused, they discontinued an assload of them like a week ago
thought it was the whole lineup
while I'd appreciate a 3rd player in the graphics card market, just for the sake of the competition
I don't think Intel is up to it
AMD has lit a fire under their ass in the CPU market
it's too hard to build the level of driver support these days for a new player to get in imo
never mind the ip and resources to make something worth buying at the hardware level
apple is apple
your point being?
its possible but I dont see why Intel would do it right now
yeah they won't, they have bigger problems to deal with
but it's not like we've got only 3 big companies in the world that do consumer semiconductors
I'd really love to see a 3rd player in both, consumer GPU and CPU market
just gotta hope ....
I mean, IBM and Oracle could do it if they wanted
they are like really big in the supercomputer scene
if they wanted to do a consumer chip division, they'd do it
like I said, there are enough companies that have both, the resources and the knowledge to do it
but they dont
Recently?
Nope
They quit making anything mainstream in 2014
now they are doing just supercomputers/mainframes
didn't IBM design the 7nm node GLOBALFOUNDRIES/AMD will be using to counter intel's node lead
Btw https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ninox-astrum-lightweight-modular-gaming-mouse-computers#/ FUNDED! 😛
Congrats. 😃
