one weapon I was farming at some point was only dropping from a raid boss, drop chance for any legendary was below 5%, he had like 7 possible drops, and the variant I wanted would have a chance of 0.00256% to be one the that drops
so I would need aroud 40 thousand drops to get that on average, with needing like 20 runs on average to get a legendary drop
with a speedrun build the fight needs a minute + loading times and menu'ing
like the thing im doing with the weapon is the same thing, killing the bosses for loot but instead of spending more time that possible on one weapon drop, I enjoy the game with the weapon that has the scope I prefer to use
I actually got a drop that was almost what I wanted, it just had the scop I dont like because it blocks more vision, so I changed that, because realisticly I would need another 1500 hours to get the same thing with a different scope
and you really cant tell me neediong 1500 hours to get the same weapon with a different scope is not bad design
but the only issue is the droprates of certain legendaries, so until endgame you dont even know or notice it
so in the case of BL2 you'd rather just never get the 4 weapons you'd have the most fun with and instead have 4 that are worse?

They have wives and kids and jobs etc. It'll def take longer to do content but it's not a race to max lvl and some people enjoy that. The people playing it with me got ahead of me, and after some time they where done with it and continued playing for a bit finding some randoms for raids and getting bored of it as well. Granted there was not much in the way of content back then. Later I tried it again but got bored pretty quickly having oneone to play with / talk on discord at the same time.
For me I play most of the time solo nowadays but for games like mmo's I a least want some people I know to play with. My online friend groups I used to play with sort of died out.

And that's fine - They went a new direction. Game was terrible but that's my personal opinion. But forcing this on an old game, a classic by fans is... bold. And not something I like.
They basically turned the game into a Soul style game. Not only is combat uninstanced and fully live, but you break boxes and whatnot for loot. That was never a thing in the old FF games. Containers weren't Zelda pots ๐
Anyhoo - Old man ranting done. I'm not a fan of what I'm seeing, but I'll wait with final judgement till I actually have the full game in hand ๐

The issue with lootboxes is that their mode of operation is identical to gambling. While personally I am not easily swayed by them a lot of people are.
Even in a f2p game I would say they are a problem. If you are going to add gambling at least have it regulated like any other form of gambling.
