the main purpose i found is that it lets you afk metal/frost dragons a little more since u dont just die if ur dragonfire pot falls off

but thats mostly clogger/completionist goals

DFS actually has +1 strength over dragon defender so you might see some use before you get an avernic

The accuracy from dragon defender is very important almost always worth using on even dragons
