#Stuck in the early game (Medium Combat Achievement rewards, JAD, Skilling)

Hello!

I'm a GIM who's group quit.

I'm struggling to find a few tasks to focus on. My 3 main goals at the moment are 1.) Get JAD cape (I think I have the stats, and gear, but IDK if i have the supplies. I have 200 prayer pots no sara brews, restores or their blighted versions, but I have ancient magics).
2.) Medium Combat Achievement complete, but I'm struggling to find another 39 points without wilderness tasks (I'm thinking about Entry TOA and regular TOA for a lot, but I don't know if I have the stats/gear), Dag Rex, and Royal Titans (don't have friends). TOB if some rando's will carry me.
3.) Stats for hard Mort and western province for diary.

Are my current stats too low for my plan? Should I do something different?

Honestly, it sounds like a lot of detours to avoid going for sote and bowfa 😛

bwans are your main food, dont need monkfish

elite void is good, but thats for chinning to get 92 range

black mask is good yeah

dont need to worry about mory hard or med combats

fire cape isnt a rush

you can just wait till bowfa

you can do mahog homes to 70 for plank sack and sote reqs

as for gear, need to go get bring

Hi! I think your account is progressing nicely, though I'd say you are squarely in the early game and not the midgame. I recommend focusing on farming and questing, with the medium term goal of going for Song of the Elves, piety and 80 hunter

#

Your melee stats are well ahead of some of your supporting skills, and I'd avoid combat for a while to let those catch up

#

Also sorry if I overlooked it, but do you have a berserker ring (i)? The three big melee upgrades of the early game are b ring (i), piety and thralls.

Hello, no I do not have B ring I was thinking about camping Drex. I've been running Perilous Moons the last ~week since I unlocked it doing 5ish per day trying to get bone shards, orbs and gear upgrades. I haven't unlocked thralls yet. SOTE and Arc spell book were on my radar, but even if i did them my only experience with gauntlet was Grid master where I completed it prob ~20 times with 90-92 ranged and i think only 2 or 3 of the combat unlocks. I assumed i'd need like 90+ ranged before I really attempted CG, and may have not seen the value in doing it before then.

grizzled star
#

unfortunately, perilous moons isnt that great either

tardy linden
#

I think CG is a good longer term goal but not immediately relevant

grizzled star
#

and you can easily get 92 before cg with chinning

#

but yeah, working to SotE itself is gonna take a while

tardy linden
#

Barrows and Moons are really popular content but, in my opinion, total bait. If you enjoy it go for it, but it won't really progress your account.
Also if you go for moons, absolutely get a berserker ring, thralls and piety from green dragons first (in that order). They will make a massive difference

#

I would personally move away from the bone shards training asap

Hey brother. I see you say this often. My question is … When you need good range or mage gear and you are coming from rags (blue mystic and black d’hide)… and you are considering going for quest cape or other hard bosses with sub 90 stats… why is barrows or moons a bad idea?

What do you use for range and mage gear before ancestral Virtis? You go straight from blue mystic to these end game grinds?

vital nymph
#

Crystal, bloodbark

brittle radish
# vital nymph Crystal, bloodbark

Ok, so to grind 92+ range which is recommended for CG grind, you do that in black d’hide?

Blood bark good alternate for sure, way less time spent I suppose

vital nymph
#

You don't even get black in meta progression, you chin from 60 with void

#

You just scrape by with whatever needed for early range, msb if you have to for stuff like kingdom divided

brittle radish
#

👌

blazing haven
#

I did the catch chin -> throw chin in mm2 -> cg route. 93 range with full crystal and bowfa now and have never equipped black d hide, rune cross bow, or an MSB. Getting quest cape soon though so I’ll at least use RCB for some of those.

#

You throw chins in elite void

somber jackal
#

I used a yew/magic shortbow for early questing with any range gear I could find

tardy linden
#

As others pointed out ranging is kind of just a bad skill early. You make it sound like you need some way to utilise it. Actually it's good to just ignore it until you make this big chins push. The meta is to not use ranged at that stage.
If you want to use it anyway, and many people do, black dhide and a shortbow are perfectly serviceable. But the more you try to use ranged the worse off you are at that stage of progression

#

There isn't much mage gear, period. Ahrim's, bloodbark and blue moon are very similar so you can pick one of those and it'll be good for a long time. Bloodbark is recommended as it's much faster to get than the other two since rc is good on its own, but many people enjoy going for one of the other two sets. Just make sure you check the numbers - barrows and moons become a LOT faster later, and the mage gear isn't that useful early, and the other items from the minigames are pretty lousy, and the coupon collector rates are deceptively unfriendly.

shy jay
#

Worth noting that coupon collector doesn't apply to moons due to dupe protection, it's a lot faster to greenlog

somber jackal
#

it's faster than full ahrim but still quite slow compared to bloodbark especially early on

#

assuming you were going to get the rc level anyways ofc

lyric niche
#

yea blue moon isn't totally insane to get especially if you care about master clues, it is just moderately slower than bloodbark. ahrim's on the other hand is hardcore trolling, as is trying to get any specific barrows item thanks to how beyond horrible the per-item rates are

Main thing I took out of it that wasn’t previously mentioned for recommendations was to do Royal Titans for prayers before I go for SoTE, farming another ~6k chins and sit CG.

Videos on YouTube seem to define early/mid/late/end game differently depending on who I’m watching. What’re some channels you’d recommend?

Current plan B ring, thralls, piety. Some Moons and Titans while skilling for SoTE, probably 80 hunter getting the chins I need, MM2 CG after prayers from titans and 92 range.

Is regular gauntlet worth doing if I’m under leveled for CG?

Lmk if I should make any more changes or something else I should prioritize/add.

Hey, wanted to check in and see how you feel your account is progressing now.

I wanted to advocate for less of the big milestone items and more of the chores or grindy ones. The impact that keeping on top of your farming contracts, bird houses and herb runs on keeping your supplies high is very understated.

The easiest way to go dry on an item is to go dry on the resources you need to grind it out!

Happy scaping and feel free to hit me up if you're looking for duo content

viral obsidian
#

It is getting slightly annoying doing the daily chores. Gotta do my tree runs, kill Hesporia, check my farm contract, do some herb runs, put off doing my bird runs and seaweed runs, spend my wages at Varrocks battle staves. Since I’m not doing Moons anymore I don’t have powered orbs I’m getting passively so every few days I gotta do an hour of charging orbs. I’m trying to get my slayer mask, and spending some time doing mahogany homes and mastering mixology for SoTE and MM2.

tardy linden
#

Good news:

  • Daily staves arent a thing. I dont know why you are doing this. If you enjoy it, go for it. It sounds like you do not though?
  • Herb runs aren't important
  • Tree runs don't need to be done daily, and should only take a few minutes if you do them so often
  • Seaweed is done in a few weeks, it's a joke in the community that people say they 'have their seaweed banked' because it's so fast it really doesn't matter
  • It sounds like you're actively doing regular moneymaking. You wouldn't happen to be pissing that away at miscellania, right?
  • Mahogany homes aren't considered good after level 70 cons, so even if you aren't quite there yet you should be done very shortly
  • Mixology is only good after 81 herblore, very nice that you got such a high level already!
viral obsidian
#

I’m a poor man and think of it as 138k I’m leaving on the table everyday I don’t buy battlestaves, until I can get reliable money from CG and bossing. I assume I need a bunch of money for planks.

I still need 70 herbalore. From my herb runs I’m mostly making super attk/str/def/energy/restore and prayer/prayer regen potions because I assume I’ll need them eventually anyways.

I just hit 70 over the weekend so I stopped doing daily at least for now.

I don’t have strong feelings about seaweed runs but I’ve been real inconsistent with my birdhouse/seaweed runs since I hit 72 hunting like a month ago.

I have spent some money at Miscellania (probably like 3-4 mil since I unlocked it a couple months ago) but it was mainly to get supplies for 70 herb, 70 construction. Now that I’m close to the stat requirements for SoTE I haven’t thrown much into it for like a week or so. All my money is tied up in battle staves ATM

I almost have enough teak to get me to 70 from MH. I assume after I get 70 construction I just WC at fossil island? But idk if I teak or mahogany? The online guides say teak but 🤷‍♂️ the guides I find aren’t consistent with the comments/recommendations here.

I need 4 more levels for herbalore and I’m out of quests to get herb xp or get lamps I can reasonably do. While guthix sleeps and sins of the father are the only two that stand out to me that I haven’t done. So I guess… thankfully all that money I spent at miscellania gave my enough Irit, Tarromin, harrlander etc to get me across the finish line. 😂

tardy linden
#

Stop buying battlestaves. The daily is only a 14 gp discount per staff over the regular shop. You are not missing out on anything by not buying them

#

Seaweed and bird houses aren't related. Bird runs are really good. Seaweed you just knock out whenever

#

Definitely do not spend money at misc on herblore. Misc is mostly for cons, with 5 workers on anything you like (admittedly, 5 herb is fine). I'm afraid you might have really made life a lot more difficult for yourself than it had to be

lyric niche
#

bstaves can be shopscaped whenever you want, the daily doesn't do anything other than save you some world hopping

#

zero need to obligate yourself to do it

#

herb runs do need to be done, but they're gated by seeds, not by actually growing the herbs. farming contracts are the "daily" (hourly) chore that actually matters when it comes to herblore

#

super sets and energy pots become a non-issue pretty quickly, so you should probably focus on making whatever gives you the best herb xp unless you are actively running out of something

#

and prayer regens are very niche, don't waste your time doing shitty pre-81 mixology to stock up on them

viral obsidian
#

I had no idea there was little difference in the daily bstaves purchase.

I'm mastering my mixology just to get to 70 ATM for SoTE. I simply do not have the seeds/herbs to get ~1300 Cadantine, snapdragon, and kwuarm to get from 67 to 70. After that I'll stop until 81.

I was looking at while Guthix sleeps and IDK if it's out of my capability ATM. Have a few quests I'll need to do before it's unlocked. For sins of the father I'll have to do the 2 quests leading up to it.

Thanks for the info, guys.

somber jackal

If you want you could have a look into the farming guide in #1052266500041478246 . Maybe you can improve something, especially contracts can be vastly improved with the right preplants

I’m a slow progressor but I’m enjoying the ladlor chart as a guideline. Classic caveat is if you’re enjoying a piece of content (moons, whatever) then do your thing, but if you’re looking at progression getting your skills into SOTE shape is probably a good way to narrow down your options in game. Contracts are always good if you don’t have direction and then go from there into your skills

#

Miscellania always felt like an easy solution to herbs and planks but is probably way less expensive to cut your own teaks and spend your money on something else. Otherwise you could get into the sepulchre if you want to tunnel deep

I’ll take a look at his guide. There’s so many written guides/video gear progressions with conflicting info. An example being blast furnace and giants foundry.

Buying gold ore at the blast furnace doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. Idk how much money y’all got but it seems wasteful where I’m at currently to spend that kind of money there. I blasted about 2k gold bars, 800 Mith and 1k-1.5k steel bars that I got from motherlode but I had to spend a decent amount of levels to get to 70 at giants. I still don’t know WTF to do with the gold bars. Do I make cannon balls? Do I make bracers and alch? Do they just sit there?

Coming from being semi sweat on wow to this, outside looking in, you got a bunch of super sweaty/high skill or XPph guides and a bunch of shit ones and I probably spent a bunch of time doing shit ones and sometimes I can’t do the sweat ones due to skill/gear.

I thought I was a gamer, but I died at Klaus like 5 or 6 times in phase 2 on sins of the father because the guides I found didn’t mention a stat reduction, and I didn’t notice the first two attempts. None recommended ring of efaritay but suggested explorers 4.

I got the stats for SoTE now, but I’m probably going to do mage training 1 and 2 so I can have some extra magic attack. (I did a couple more moons and got blue helm, and chest to go with the staff. So it should make it easier)

In a previous comment when I was sub 70 herb I suggested I might do the while guthix sleeps quest. After watching some videos and doing sins of the father, I do not have the stats/supplies to even attempt it.

I’m not trying to come across as just bitching but it’s hard out here for a no main first time Ironman. I appreciate everyone’s input on guiding me to the mid game.

muted terrace
#

For smithing and construction it’s either spend gp and save time or spend time and save gp. Gold bars either sit in bank or you alch them (for magic xp not gp) some people make them into diamond bracelets and alch them but I don’t think I’ll ever do that unless they update how you make jewelry lol. And a lot of YouTube guides are made by people that look like this Dentge

grizzled star
#

As for GF vs BF, this is a common theme across multiple methods

#

Its typically always faster to make GP and do a better method, than to do a bad method

#

Also another trap is feeling that you need to do something with every item you get/make, some stuff is just trash that you made for XP and thats fine

#

Gold bars are actually pretty good in that they can be used for jewelry and alching

lyric niche
#

note: good for making certain kinds of jewelry
anything that you'll actually use (teleports and such) is good
ruby and diamond bracelets to alch are good, but anything below that isn't really worth making to alch
plain gold items are especially a big waste of time

#

gold bars are one of several items that every iron eventually ends up with a giant stack collecting dust in the bank, because you will never use as many as you need to make to level smithing, and processing all of them isn't worthwhile, but you don't wanna drop them either because you do need a few here and there
at your stage though you can go through quite a few by alching them for magic xp, they're roughly break-even with the cost of natures so they're good alch fodder

I feel you on this. 20 yr wow veteran, and I’m now 1970 TTL level, all quests completed, all hard diaries done. I feel like I just went through your struggle.

TLDR is this. This discord is for max efficiency. Not really geared towards first play through. Same with Ironman skilling methods discord. Almost nothing is a “waste” of time on an Ironman, because almost always you’ll end up using the materials or whatever XYZ thing you did that was inefficient. Also, you may be like me and play alot of mobile, and not a lot on Runelite, so that changes things as well.

As you progress maybe 1-2 years into the future when you have near max combat stats, and you are heavy into bossing, you will come across many supplies, items, etc that make your skilling journey more efficient etc. or maybe you don’t have GP now but you will in the future.

Anyways, all this to say… Do what you have fun doing brother. If it’s your first play through… just do what you enjoy, don’t burn yourself out doing the max efficiency stuff. (Just my 2 cents or less)

lyric niche
#

the flipside of all that is that being clued into efficient strategies can help prevent burning yourself out on shitty grinds that could have been done in a less shitty way

#

if you're some unfortunate soul sinking dozens of hours into barrows for full ahrim's, learning that you can just get bloodbark instead is liberating

barren ridge
#

It’s less about inefficient stuff not being useful (though sometimes that is the case) and more about the opportunity cost of not doing the efficient stuff

lyric niche
#

or maybe you really really like barrows and just keep doing it instead 😅

barren ridge
#

All a matter of perspective, though. I didn’t care much about efficiency at first, and as I progressed, I found the grinds getting longer and longer and so I wanted to make progress more quickly

lyric niche
#

was the same for me

barren ridge

And I still pick and choose what I do and don’t do efficiently, but I always like to know what the efficient option is (and preferably at least give it a try) before ruling it out preemptively

I think my main goals now are to get 70 prayer, a kingdom divided, 69 slayer for MM2 so I can chin, farm chins, work towards corrupted gauntlet, probably JAD Maybe some hard western diary for elite void.

I'm not going to admit publicly how many times I died before I killed Seren.

Let’s goooo! My goal is to bang out SotE before 2026 and this is a nice burst of inspo.

viral obsidian
#

Good luck!

I think I went in with 10 phoenix necklaces, 4 prayer pot (4), 2 strawberry baskets, ~14 belledona. The times I died I didnt even use a phoenix necklace, because I got the timing off. If i were to do it again i would have brought 6 prayer pots and lost the pizzas so i could keep mystic up the whole time. I used blood barrage until the end of 2nd special, and then switched to ice barrage after. I used a strawberry if my hp fell below 20.

I kid you not the last 2 full rotations of special attacks I missed so much i think it started and ended with the same HP. On the 2nd special of the last incomplete rotation of special attacks (right before her heal) is when i killed her. It was so close. I think I could have ate my pizzas and used a rest to get one more rotation if i didn't get the kill when I did. Ibans blast probably would have been a better call than blood/ice barrage because my max hit was only like ~20 or 21 with the +%magic I had.

Also took my like 4-5hrs from start to finish in one day. I took a couple breaks, but the no stamina potions for the puzzle I think took me like 1.5hrs.
