I've seen this offered up a few times. Is it feasible to instead of WT do a rumours grind to 99 hunter for the free prayer/cooking/herb exp?
WT feels a bit more macro-efficient because it slowly trains several skills at once by training FM. Has anyone done some maths on this?

Rumours aren't even good for their primary skill, no shot they're good for the others, sadly. Kinda fun though since you engage with a lot of content

Yeah I guess my main arguments would be the xp/h and that wt is very beneficial early game but is a waste of time past that so if youre GOING to level a skill first may as well have it be firemaking

Birdhouses are already meta for getting herblore secondaries/tree seeds and chins are ehp for hunter and ranged, so hunter in and of itself is already macro efficient in that regard, so I guess I'm not 100% sure what the question is. since rumors would have to beat all the stuff hunter is already good for. Then again I'm not a knower so maybe someone else would be able to prove me wrong or have more information
I suppose I don't actually see what the equivalency between WT and rumors is though in this scenario

Another thing to note is that WT is done early since it's like absolutely 0 reqs and provides enough GP to start doing actually good content. The rewards are almost like a little bonus. That and easy 60+ wc and fletching for early on are also two nice bonuses. A lot less about the item boxes, since as you said, they're pretty bad

hunter rumours also have a ton of unlocks that provide niche benefits - having experts or masters unlocked gives you extra blocks, having western provinces hard or sote done gives you less packed red chins spots, having kourend hard done gives you a good grey chins spot, having quest cape/lumbridge elite gives you better fairy ring access, having beneath cursed sands unlocked gives you access to toa orange salamanders, having lunar diplomacy done is a must for red salamanders, having 85+ farming gives you celastrus bark access for even more tick manip for chins...

Also FM can be nice in some niche cases. gotr if you get lantern, shades of Morton if you happen to want bloodbark and swampbark

Rumours also give you a ton of cash, will get you a great early prayer level, and give you nice construction planks/some nice free herbs. Not to mention the chins you catch along the way, the free (good) food and therefore cooking xp too. On way to 99 you'll stack up a shit ton of moonlight moths too for free pray potions, and also a great range weapon until bowfa, i say go for it
they are mega fun, could even do both
can do birdhouses in between rumours, not mutually exclusive

You guys are misusing the word free, wintertodt is "free" gp because that's nearly the best training method for fm so you're sacrificing next to nothing for the gp. Rumors would have to be compared to birdhouses and they get absolutely destroyed by birds
