#Job quest idea (modpack making)

I'm developing a "Job" questline on FTB Quests for my french Minecraft 1.20.1 server & modpack.

When players first join, players can select one job from several options for free.
Each job allows them to unlock specific items that they can then craft, to use or sell to other players.

While players have the freedom to change their chosen job, they'll lose their progress if they do so. This system aims to promote player-driven commerce on the server. I'm currently brainstorming the types of tasks that players will need to complete as part of this questline. If you have any vague ideas of how this system could improve, I'd be thrilled to hear about them !

Here is the first job questline, Artisan, they can craft diverse decorative elements, like chairs, tables, sofas, and such.

What kind of mods do you have available to work with?
I think an interesting approach could be to have them create a "prototype" of the thing first, either through Little Tiles/Chisels and bits, some subdimension (or just wherever) where they just build a giant replica out of real blocks or some other kind of creative minigame-ish thingy in order to unlock a recipe for the decorations themselves

#

Also giving them access to the Joy of Painting mod, maybe even removing vanilla paintings could be huge

#

Immersive Melodies or similar mods could be a plus too (unless you've got enough ideas for a dedicated bard job)

#

Also if player commerce is something you want, having certain job progress/features locked behind items from different jobs could be something (but also has the potential of being absolutely painful sometimes, so consider with caution I suppose)

(Got a bit excited lol, seems very interesting)

So, I've been tinkering around with the modpack, and right now, it's sitting at around 280 mods. They're all about making Minecraft smoother to play or sprinkling in some extra fun without straying too far from the original vibe.

Some of the standout mods in the mix include Create (with a bunch of addons), Supplementaries, Chipped, and Alex's Mobs. These mods really amp up the gameplay while still keeping that familiar Minecraft feel intact.

I'm totally on board with the idea of adding mini-games to shake up the progression system. Let's face it, the whole "chop X logs" routine can get old real fast. But .... I'm not exactly a coding wizard, so any mini-games I'll add will have to be pretty straightforward to set up. Plus, with the modpack and server set to release on July 15th, I've got to manage my time wisely.

Now, about mods like Little Tiles and Chisels. I've made the call not to include them in the pack. They're awesome for unleashing creativity, but they can really hog server resources in the long run. And as for removing vanilla content, I'm a bit hesitant. Though, I'm considering reserving the creation of netherite tools and armor for the blacksmith role.

I'm definitely into the idea of player-driven trade. Althogh, It should be about enhancing the game experience, not making it feel like a necessity.

**Thank you for the input! If you've got more ideas or suggestions, I'm all ears! pepecoffee **

Here's a list of the jobs I have in mind as of right now and the mods that would be exclusive to that particular job :

  • Artisan

(Another Furniture, Create: Interiors, Chimes, Handcrafted, Items Displayed [only the stand], Lucky's Cozy Home, Redden's Stone Lanterns, Mighty Mail)

  • Blacksmith

(Netherite armors & tools [not a mod, duh], Applying Armor trims [also not a mod, duh], Immersive Armors, Divine Weaponry, Immersive Aircrafts [base crafts])

  • Engineer

(ComputerCraft, Immersive Aircrafts [upgrades & weapons], Gliders, Lucky's Blocky Siege, Create Stuff & Additions [jetpacks and exosuits])

  • Chef

(Farmers Delights [only tools and advanced recipes that add a lot of saturation and/or effects], Ocean's Delights, End's Delights, Quark Delights) [Spice of Life: Apple Pie Edition is added to the modpack to enhance the utility of the chef job]

The system is still in it's early stages, so I'm open to diverging ideas

Artisan - probably the easiest way to give it a "minigame" would be to require them to build a giant model of the block - essentially a multiblock, but the reward is a chair instead of a nuclear reactor.

This script might be able to do it.
To make it more "immersive", maybe after meeting the requirements/accepting the quest (can they do that?) going to sleep would teleport the player to a "dream" dimension where they could have limited creative, or just a lot of resources, and they'd have to build the thing. (The whole dream dimension thing may just be unnecessarily complicated tho)
I do realize that this may be a lot of work for a block that just sits pretty, both for you to set up and the player - definitely needs to unlock ALL recipes of the same kind (chairs/clocks/tables from every wood type).

Also the Joy of Painting really is a cool mod IMO, I really recommend you at least take a look at it. If you're worried the players might spam a lot of paintings and take up the memory quick, maybe make the canvas recipe take a finite, controllable resource to craft ("High-quality cloth" or something)
