Pats got 2 D line guys (1 was a hybrid, edge rusher/LB), 2 O line pieces, RB, WR, 2 CBs, a punter and a QB
The only position that I thought they'd go for and they didn't is TE. They got 1 in UFA tho. He was a Longhorn captain.
Those 2 CBs, like most picks were for competition, but even more so because they need the secondary to step up more than ever with Duke Dawson's startin to heat up and JC having a great rookie season last year.
Last season, there was no 3rd string spot. Jarrett will definitely compete with Danny Etling for a 3rd backup spot. They wouldn't bring him in if there wasn't. 3 UFA WRs is perfect. I would like for at least 1 more TE tho

Probably not as much unless you're aware of European football before he came, and ye he might be popular in LA. Rooney moved to the MLS a while back and I don't really hear much about him in the DMV area or DC United at all lol. Soccer is slowly growing but it's still significantly small in the states compared to the main sports played here. But I think a lot of the bigger players are popular among the west like Cristiano, Messi, Neymar & Zlatan being one of them.

Zlatans first goal (and a hell of a goal at that) in the MLS, off the bench iirc. You can see so many mistakes just in the fielded players that it makes you cringe. Any player that's played in Europe or hell, even Brazil or something, the MLS would be like child's play

The worst part is undoubtedly the goaltending, not sure how the hell Tim Howard managed to have a career whatsoever but I guess diamond in the rough etc etc. I wish more USD went into development for soccer because it's just disappointing

The problem is it's a mismatch. All the "big players" coming to the MLS are forward players or attacking mids. The only exception, IIRC, was Pirlo (one of my all time faves) and he had an awful MLS career, despite being one of the best ever deep lying mids. Attacking play sucks in the MLS unless you get someone from overseas who's capable of doing it all; Zlatan, Henry, Rooney, Pelé, Cruyff....because they're playing against people ridiculously below their skill level. I forget who it was, he was an ex Liverpool player, came to the MLS and said that it felt like his teammates had other jobs

But you never, ever see any defensive players signed to the MLS. I guess it would be boring, idk. I'd love to see better MLS games (I'm actually going to NJ this week to see Zlatan play) but until they focus on improving MLS as a league instead of a "here's some okay players playing soccer and one really good player who's prime was 3 years ago" retirement league. Pipe dream but
