Star wars last jedi ||they are going into a different dimension where the laws of physics wont rip their ship apart. Its the same reason we can't do it irl. When they go into hypedrive lanes the time it takes is shorterened but it can also age you rapidly. Its why they have a forcefield to shield agaisnt hyperspace. So the person inside the ship doesn't age faster than the rest of the universe. You're effectively a neighboring dimension using it as a highway. Where your ship goes way faster there.||

star wars last jedi || ok so i understand why going into hyperdrive is important for normal space travel. but it seems to me that ships should still be able to reach a reasonably fast speed outside of the hyperdrive space unless that space itself somehow accelerates the ships to that level. if the ship has the capability to go at those speeds, i see no reason as to why it needs to go into hyperspace to ram into the first order ship. if holdo configured the ship to accelerate straight into the enemy ship.

as for why i think this isnt generally a viable tactic, i imagine u need really big ships dont u ? that would be impractical when u have big lasers and shit to do the same thing

the bigger plothole here seems to be that the shields of the first order couldnt prevent that collision. ||

In real space ships cannot go that fast to ram into a ship and do that much damage. It's more insane this wasn't a move spammed by the cis in the prequels when all was lost when their crews are all disposable droids or as an opener vs the death star in in ep4 or 6. And then you also have shields that shouldn't allow that to happen. Its just such a big lore break that has effects spanning across every movie. Its usually why you dont want to make that type of thing happen unless you account for it. Rian just wanted it to happen and dint really think behind the logic of it or the lore implications.||

Movie had problems but i liked the parts where it came together and when it kinda felt less like a Disney film lol

Elemental ||Movie is trying to be like three different things, and because of that Ember comes out a fully fleshed out character but Wade, her parents and the setting don't.

I don't think the disaster movie story or buddy cop adventure at the start trying to fix the canal were at all necessary, that time would have been to way better use just focusing on Wade's life and backstory, and the societal reasons for the imbalances them instead of all of that being treated as lip service and nobody really talking about the root problems. But I can't expect nuanced social commentary from a Disney movie, and this had to justify it's budget by having things they could throw in the trailer for young boys, I guess. But surely there was a cleaner way to get there, cuz it often stepped on its own toes.

Pixar's had a problem lately of trying to have autobiographical stories morphed into mascot urban fantasy adventure films, and this is one of the cleaner examples I've seen but it still carries the issues with the formula. But at least Ember is one of the more interesting characters within this sub genre they've built, the romantic chemistry (🙄) was cute and the use of fluids in the animation brought its world to life where the writing didnt. Kinda reinforms that they DO have that creative spark still but they're not able to put all the ingredients in the right order the way they could under Lassetter||
