arcane s2 end ||I only felt it was an issue in the first act. I have the opposite opinion that acts 2 and 3 are stellar and act 1 is a bit of a mess. I never felt there was too much story to tell either. Everything in s1 was the primary buildup, and the majority of s2 is the climax of that buildup. The issue, however, is that eps 1-3 montages, some cuts in eps 1-3, and the dictator cait montage in ep 4 all deserved to be fleshed out more without the montages/weird cuts. As those episodes were supposed to be the bridge to the climax. Eps 4-9 however, were how they should've been imo.

I felt that the rest of act 2 and the entirety of act 3 were nearly perfect, however. ||

Arcane end || Act 2 is the Halcyon Days. Act 3 is wretched, minus the best episode in the series, 7.

I do think the story Arcane tells is a well rounded one, though. I would dislike if the minute and mundane moments that were skipped over got shown. Everything that we needed to see was shown. I would just have a bigger investment if they cut down the montages and stretched those out to allow the plot threads that they shorten the ability to breathe and cause the characters and world to feel more three dimensional and expansive. Drunk Vi, Vander’s Recovery at Viktor’s Settlement, etc. They would just be nicer to experience if they were actually given time. There are some very successful montages in there too, though. Jinx and Isha stuff stands out in particular ||

Arcane end || Also, I’m pretty left leaning myself. I just can’t stand uncritical rubbish and spineless liberalism as a backdrop for the entire story. The messaging is very sus ||

Arcane end || Drunk Vi being a montage was the ideal decision. Thats one of the situations that the montage was a positive and not a detriment. I feel this is the case with most act 2 and 3 montages. Vi being a drunk and getting in fights with random people would be bad to draw out because it'd hurt the show's tight pacing. At best you they should've shown the argument Vi and random shield guy got into at the end of the montage. But shield guy is such a non character because of act 1-3's pacing/structural issues, that doing so would be a detriment here as well as it'd fall flat. Vander's recovery would be redundant too. There isnt really anything to tell us regarding that narratively. ||

👆Here’s the actual crux of my issue.

The montages are actually really good. Generally they contain the best animated sequences in the show. Again, though, I have a problem with them because of their utilization. They’re utilized to fulfill a purpose that would be fulfilled by actual, fleshed-out writing otherwise. They’re never, or not always, the most important moments, which is why they get the “montage treatment,” but in almost every other series, the writers decide different directions for the plot and characters to go in, and then they deliver those directions through writing and by expanding upon those ideas. Drunk Vi could be an entire episode with its own montages and self-containment. Would it be the most important set of events in the show? Absolutely not, but it would have been very good and cool to see explored. The series as a whole would benefit from that sort of room to breathe. Some fresh air. It is literally only a bad idea within the creative restriction that this was a story that absolutely had to be told in two seasons. Be more like Oda and let your characters and world live. ||

I finished reading the Frank Miller Daredevil run. || Something I notice when I'm reading these comics is that I'm more invested in the origin stories more than the actual main stories. When I was reading Man with No Fear, I felt more emotionally invested in Daredevil more than I had in the main story. While I did have fun reading through Daredevil because of its excellent comic panelling, I couldn't care as much for the character drama and the worldbuilding within it. Maybe it's cause Elektra is kinda flat as a character or maybe I'm just tired of reading through a hero beats smart/intimidating bad guy cause Kingpin and the guy with the blue target head didn't impress me. The one time I did kinda care about what was going on was when Daredevil was making a moral decision on killing blue-target head. It got into a moral conflict that intrigued me personally. ||

||It was kinda novel at first on how Daredevil becomes a badass beating bad guys just by using his non-visual senses, but that kinda got old for me||

||So it led to me just kinda reading the comic for the action storytelling more than anything.||

Reading reddit impressions everyone seems to agree 40k, AC and UT are the best of the season?

I'm reading reviews and yeah the negative consensus seems to be that these should all be 45 minute stories cuz at 13 minutes they feel like videogame cutscenes

I'm wondering if it's expectations from being existing IP? Or the knowledge the source is a videogame?

People complaining that they don't have the context to understand these characters or worlds but the ones I don't know just feel like short stories and the ones I DO know are either microcosms of the game made to function standalone or straight up have nothing to do with em

It's a like 7/10 anthology series pulling from videogame worlds and mechanics to have some cool animation and set pieces it's nothing to write home about but it's fine

I guess the real problem is the market for that is super small. Videogames are just finally starting to get their big multimedia push after fighting for scraps for 50 years so to see something as big as Warhammer or Mega Man just get 10 minutes feels like a slap to the face when Sonic is getting a trilogy.

And on the flip side if the story isn't about an IP they do want adapted it's offensive and they should have picked a better one

Finished Hannibal ||It still maintains the same tension and mystery that kept me glued to my seat. I liked it. Hannibal Lecter still remains a very interesting, disturbing character throughout. I liked that Claric managed to get as far as facing Hannibal face to face and escaping his grasp in the last act. She became less worried of the misogynistic people surrounding her workplace and focused on the mission at hand. I liked her developments here more than the last film.||
