Watching Lightyear
This is one of the worst films ive ever seen and i hate it

I havent seen a lot of modern age Pixar and good god this studio lost its spark if this is what they're churning out

Kids who like Disney movies? Audiences who grew up with toy story? A new generation who has no bias with any of those things? People who grew up with pulp sci-fi and want a callback to them?

Is this trying to be La Jetee? Gunbuster? Forbidden Planet? Planet of the Vampires? Rio Bravo? Top Gun?

This films nothing but disparate elements strung together by poorly thought out and ineffective nostalgia, nothing has had any room to breathe or be explored. And if the answer is that it was made on a Disney budget and not an indie budget so it looks fine on a technical level, or that its story resembles a three act structure so its functional, i just dont see that as anything worth vouching for

Light year was first conceptualized as a sci-fi movie that harkened back to the 80’s earnest nostalgic feel, yeah but they fit in Buzz Lightyear into it because the director wanted to do a film that harkened back to his origin story

So yeah, it’s trying to be a sci-fi film that could’ve been made in the 80s apparently idk, it is a fairly decent watch just for its cinematic technical aspects and Giacchino’s score

I think it does way less than what its lofty ambitions are, to create that sense of spectacle with heart but I wouldn’t say it’s that hollow or shallow with a lack of emotional touch, it does have it but I feel like it could’ve done more with what it was trying to do and it just couldn’t reach there

Batman operates on a larger scale than someone like Daredevil or Spider-Man

He also always hands over criminals he fights to the law specifically

Batman and Gordon’s friendship is a specific focus because of this

The Dark Knight trilogy || Nolan’s Batman is not like Snyder’s Batman and specifically inspires hope, the final scenes of The Dark knight is evidence, he does not seek revenge for Joker killing Rachel and takes the blame for Harvey going mad, he becomes a scapegoat specifically for the people, the film pointedly shows us that Batman’s approach to seeking out Joker is a problem but a necessary step to take the unwieldy chaos he’s wreaking over Gotham, he starts off problematic in the first film and then as the films go on, it wears him down and humbles him and he becomes a better man who seeks to fight for justice ||

I don’t know where the perception of Batman now changed from Nolan’s films, I haven’t seen that discourse at all

Percy jackson disney ||so my problems start with the pacing. For example one second he’s with hades, next second he found ares and it’s all like whoh how did we get there. The characters are also kinda watered down like percy is just tryna sacrifice himself all the time and he’s not that funny and anabeth just be complaining all the time and yo after getting movie grover… the more faithful grover adaptation is so weak. The whole jumping from one thing to another took me out too like they’re just speedrunning the story and giving exposition every 5 min on the way and Thats what was most annoying so much exposition all the time like we’re never left alone for a few minutes. Also the gods were kinda underwhelming, just felt like a bunch of normal dudes||

And yo despite all that, it was pretty solid

Looking back k on it now percy jackson disney ||even the movie managed to nail in the first 2 min what a godly presence is supposed to be. Poseidon walks in literally tall as a skyscraper before using water magic to become normal man. Not a single god in the tv show got that commanding presence at any point except maybe zeus at the end when he was literally about to smite percy||
