it's really fun, no pressure, you just draw what you can in the time allotted with all the flaws and move on, and learn so much

it changes the picture against your will, the pictures change automatically
when the time is up
you should try it, like, 10 minutes is 5 pictures
it's enough to fill up a page like that
and it takes like no time

this is how you learn stray
the thing is, if you take a hand and draw it for like an hour
you wrestle with all the things you're bad at, and it's exhausting and you hate yourself
and all you learned is how to draw this one particular hand from this one particular angle that you're never gonna use anyway
but if you draw like a million fucking hands
two minutes each
then it's relaxing because you dont have to worry about the quality
and you start noticing how things repeat, you notice what fingers look like and how they bend, etc
you learn a lot about hands from all perspectives
and it's really not hard
i HATE drawing hands, i understand that it's hard to try to copy a picture of a hand until it looks right
but drawing a lot of hands quickly is just not hard at all, and you still retain a lot of knowledge

The biggest mistake I always make as an artist is doing everything in one go, details and cleanup alongside the first sketch

i think you have a lot of potential as an artist gold
the way you spoke about it i thought your art would be incomprehensible
but your drawing of robert is pretty flashy, it has a lot of personality
and the style is simple but it's not significantly flawed or anything
well, he looks kinda chibi and kid-like because of the large head, which is different than the body shape you claim he has
but overall as a yugioh/shaman-king style drawing, it's very good
(in terms of body proportions)

am in the process of drawing "that one guy", AKA discount Saito Hajime AKA aoshi
no but for real i kind of feel like watsuki put aside everything he wanted to do with aoshi as a character
and gave it to saito instead
like aoshi was gonna be so good man
he was gonna be the vegeta of the series
and then he wasn't
at least in kenshin all the characters come back for the big arcs
im kind of trying to go my own style with it and make him more of a bishounen looking dude, but the jackets too tight for him, i dunno what to do aobut it now, he's like two steps away from looking like a yugioh character

Aoshi wasn't really ever Kenshin's rival, he was someone who wanted to vindicate his existence as Edo Castle's guardian by being the best warrior in Japan. Saito was Kenshin's direct opponent during the Bakumatsu.
Watsuki would've had Saito planned for a long time
They're similar on the surface but the two of them have entirely different motivations and paths in life.

they play the exact same role in the narrative though, which is "evil guy who is the only person that rivals kenshin", like aoshi was the first real fight kenshin had after a dozen episodic chapters of kicking ass
and he almost awakened his battosai form
and then the same exact thing happened with saito
i'm sure watsuki had saito planned simply because he's a historical figure, however
they both showed up with the same role, it's just that watsuki gave saito the advantage of sticking around and joining the crew

Eh, Aoshi never managed to bring out Kenshin's full strength. The dude is not his rival.
He was just a response from the editor who wanted Kenshin to stop beating up street thugs and actually give the reader something to respect him for.
Since at the time, Jin-e was the only person who took more than one serious attack fo defeat.
He was going to be a one-hit character with the Kanryu arc but Watsuki ended up liking him so he expanded on him in Kyoto.
Aoshi is part of a family, Saito has nothing but his memories of the war.
