Because he thought the treatment would be electroshock therapy. So he was raised in a very sexist, religious, racist and homophobic way. Considered by many as scum... But also a victim of the atmosphere he was raised in.
For a design class he had to do a CD cover. But couldn't use any copyrighted material. Even though he wanted to use pikachu and sonic, his teacher wouldn't let him. So he had the brilliant idea of creating Sonichu, a hybrid of the 2.

Either the Air-Air fruit. That lets the user manipulate air currents.
Not become one. Just control air.
Or... The Voice-Voice fruit. That lets its user manipulate people with its voice, persuade them, change his/her own voice. Maybe even create sonic soundwaves.
I'm still debating and finding ideas.

More like persuading. Just like... If you get to hear The user's voice enough, it can suggest stuff to people. Nothing like "if you hear me, then boom fully under my control." Like it is more of a power to get info out of people or get them into a trance rather than complete brainwashing.
When I think of powers I try to think if I want either destructiveness or being supportive.

it might be best to have everyone submitting their ideas for the basis of the story and then vote on it
