A small change about wellness mechanic that will give complex food and drinks actual use.

Divide wellness into tiers. For example you can get +20 max hp using any food. Getting from +21 to +40 max hp you need to eat/drink something else than just simple stuff. Going forward it gets more and more complex, until the last +81 to +100 max hp requires the hardest stuff to make.

Also due to that change, reduce the amount of wellness gained from food. I think the complex food has high values to encourage players to use it for wellness increase. With new system above, you have a different mechanic that encourages you to use complex stuff.
Of course thresholds can be different, like every 25 max hp or every 33.

Also make wellness decay - if you don´t eat good food from time to time, it will diminish. Make food bonuses diminish if someone keeps eating the same food ("oh man, Strawberry Pie AGAIN??")

#

Wellness could also react to being cold, wet, hot,...

#

Wellness could affect not only your stamina limit, but also your max health and other factors (crafting speed, healing speed,...)

Wellness already affects your max hp unless it was changed

Decay is also good idea, depending on how rewarding do we want wellness to be. Currently it is pretty much super rewarding, as you can double your max hp & stamina with it if you just avoid dying, while it only requires a little to maintain and grow.

So with that suggestion, we could make wellness decay starting from like +33 and it decays very slow at the beginning. It starts decaying rapidly on +80 and above, where you have to eat only complex food to maintain that high values.

#

Decay in a form like if you won't eat anything that raises your wellness at your current stage, your wellness will slowly fall until you raise it

good ideas, especially decay since if you dont die it can be quite powerful

Yes, I would think that it "gravitates" to 100 - then goes below if you are cold or hot, or maybe eating something "bad"...and you can increase it with doing good things like eating advanced and various food or wearing something nice or such. But all effects are being temporary, if you stop being cold, or a while after eating the nice food, it goes back to 100?
That way there would be an incentive to keep cooking advanced foods/drinks or to seek nicer clothes or such.
